      I guess I'm binge watching Tool Tool is a mind journey.
      I'm digging back to the first experience for you.... Tool has lyrics??? Nobody spends that time, it just is what it is. Words randomly pop out, feell the emotion/experience/ power of the sound waves.

    I spent $300 back in March to see my favorite band TOOL for my 26th birthday BY MYSELF. Dude I’ve been to rap shows / other metal shows in my youngish life and these dudes in TOOL literally had me shell shocked the entire concert. So worth it. Best thing I’ve ever done for myself is all I’ll say. I love your content man!

      First off, fuck ya. Secondly, I remember thinking I was old'ish at 26. You're wise, not old. Go grab life by the balls. Fuck video games, fuck everything but music and your ambition and creativity. Those are words I would love to send back in time to myself at 26, which similar to you, I was going off to Tool concerts. Fuck ya, bro, fuck. Ya. Go tackle life with full momentum. And happy fucking belated birthday.

    "Tears in my eyes, chasing Ponce de Leon's phantom soul filled with hope, I can taste mythical fountains" - Juan Ponce de León was a Spanish explorer and conquistador. In 1513, Ponce led the first known European expedition to Florida, which he named during his first voyage there. Many thought he was searching for the Fountain of Youth - "become Invincible"...Only Maynard could chuck that into a song. Brilliant!!

    When this album first came out, I was in a bit of an odd place in my life. I was almost 50, been working construction my whole life, and was getting worn out. Immediately this song hit me. I listened to it over and over. It did not necessarily give me an answer to the question of what to do next, but it gave me insight into what I was experiencing at the time.
    Now, my wonderful wife has decided to make a wholesale change in her career, which means I need to go back into the outside workforce full time instead of being the stay home dad and improving our home and property as a priority. Honestly, I'm a little scared because I am starting at ground zero once again. And I ain't young and strong anymore.

      When this album came out I thought I'd wait a while thinking it's been 10 years and I questioned if the album would be nearly as good as 10,000 Days, etc. I did in fact wait a year or two. Huge mistake. They have in fact reached the top of that hill. This album is amazing every time I listen. Tool songs in general will put you in another world. No he didn't that was Danny. It was Danny who was refusing to put the music on streaming sites. In Maynards Joe Rogan appearance the day the album dropped he said the band was arguing about it and danny said he wanted the albums played in full and Maynard made the sarcastic comment that why would they're music have to be listened to in full albums when they never play full albums in concert. And thats how maynard finally got Danny to sign off on streaming.

    Ok, I am so blown away!!! My younger brother has been a fan of Tool for well, since their beginning I guess! For lack of a better word, I was kind of scared to listen to them, don't ask me why, bc I cannot explain. Now, I was born in the early 60's and I love music...lots of different kinds of music, RNR being my favorite. Alternative, modern, grunge, classic, progressive you name it, I will most likely develop a taste for it. My brother once told me about 10-15 years ago that I knew of bands before anyone else had ever heard of them! lol a bit of an exaggeration if you ask me, but he wished he knew as many bands as I do. So thanks to you, Polo Mars, I have been listening to your reaction videos and am totally getting immersed in their greatness! While listening, I called him up and said, "hear this" and put phone to speaker. He was like, "So what, you're listening to Tool, now?" I'm like, "Dude, f'n yeah!" He says, "pfft I've only been telling you about Tool and Perfect Circle for 20 years!" So thank you, Polo, and in return I turned him on to your channel!

    The Grudge is one you will definitely want to hear, and at around 16 minutes 7empest is a wild ride! I just keep gravitating back to Tool they speak to me in ways I can't even effectively describe. Btw Descending is also my fave Tool song and one of my fave songs in general! With Invincible I got reamed in the comments on another reactor channel for admitting I liked the song better when I first heard it than I do now, which is rare for me with Tool. I get the whole purpose of the song being structured as it is in light of the lyrics but at certain points it just becomes a bit too monotonous for me. Blasphemy I know but it's just my genuine response.

    The whole point of the pondering on and repetition is to create an atmosphere and have a big build up tool and all progressive music are the complete opposite of instant gratification, they are meditative pieces of art that are meant for multiple listening like you said before you can completely grasp what they are trying to convey it’s all about mood composition and reflection

    When I hear this song, I feel like I am in a war. It starts off slow as if its the start of the war where you are preparing yourself for what’s to come and when it picks up its like I’m in the battle itself. the slow parts were like an intermission from the battle to catch my breath and just digesting what’s happening. Then when it picks back up it’s like I’m back bearing arms again. I imagine the sound has to slow down in order for it to have its meaning. When you get older and you are in “battle” with the younger generations you have to have a cool down because your body doesn’t have the stamina it used to but yet you still get back up and push through like the warrior you are.

    • @danwest9900
      @danwest9900 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Just a note... it's about people who fight the good fight, police, war veteran's, EMS, fire, you name it. as we age, we feel the pressure to continue. most of us cannot take it, and we eventually get to a place where we leave and feel insignificant to society, we've fought battles many have never even thought of.... yet we're expected to recourse ourselves as soon as we are let go or leave. there is no training for that. Thats why Davey from the Navy will always be... regardless of where we go after. We're always chasing the profound and correct... not the societal norm.

Second time you notice something you really like and you missed before. Fast forward a few repeats, you're just hooked to the damn song.

    "Lurching into the fray, weapon out--belly in" is so visually and viscerally powerful. I believe this song is about their return after 15 years.

    This song is one of those Tool rarities that puts a lump in my throat because it reminds me of my Dad, who personally has always been and still is my hero and greatest teacher in life. Seeing him age I can see how he's slowly deteriorating but his will and inner light is still so powerful but limited by his aging body. Such a beautiful song.

    what you said toward the end struck a chord w me. Hearing a song for the first time creates trauma in your brain. It's taking in new info w no idea what's to come next. Hearing the song again reinforces the new pathways built in the brain and can alter your reality, thought processing. A friend of mine didn't like tool but I still made him listen every 6 months or so. After years of this I snuck all of my tool cds into his vehicle visor cd holder. None of the cds have writing other so he popped one in and now loves them.

    I think I feel the same way about the song even now. It's a slow chill song for the most part. I think the lyrics and the interpretation and the relatable theme is what brings the most value to this song. I am getting older, but everyone I think can feel the emotions that this song could evoke because we all get to that point in our lives if we are blessed. These guys have made their name known, put out some incredible music that even changed lives. So I think it really feels heartfelt when you hear those lyrics and take in that this was Tool after being gone from the scene for like 13 years. Coming back and trying to catch lightning in a bottle again. I think that really gets to me because I was a fan before this album came out.. didn't think they were coming back with this... when they did I had mixed feelings on the songs... but over time and hearing it over and over I came to appreciate the pressure that they endured to make this album. Knowing what they had done before, I went to hear them live and was still blown away. Ever since then I think this song makes me feel a bit anxious but inspired. It's not a song I think I just jam out with but a song that reminds me of the passing of time bearing down on us all. Thanks for the reaction Polo, genuine or not (not saying it isn't genuine) it was a great listen and you did a good job just taking it in. Lots of pressure from Tool army, but it's just passion so don't let it get to ya. Can't wait for more in general but off this album Tempest is a fun ride.
