POLO REACTS Amazing fact: Maynard doesn't even hear the songs until all the instrumental tracks are finished and ready. Only then will he listen and add the vocal track(s). He said he receives a rough draft mostly tho, sometimes barely a song sometimes a nearly complete song. But it sounded like he creates his part and then they work together to make it all fit perfectly, he doesn't just throw vocals on top of the finished music track.

Adam Jones is one of the few guitarist that let the guitar breathe so his audience has a chance to take in what they just heard instead of smothering them with sounds. David Gilmore does it to. This is the reason I've always preferred minimalist bands -- The Police, Hendrix, Cream, Morphine, Jeff Beck, Black Keys. They leave empty space scattered throughout the music, which enhances the definition of each voice. I love old Lynyrd Skynerd, but mother of god, nine lead guitars, was it? Eleven?

I stumbled onto your channel today, lured by the Frank Zappa "Montana" listen. I've been a sporadic fan since his Phi Zappa Crappa poster was popular in 1969. Because he went over to the Wierd Side early, we tend to forget his foundational place in the history of music. I'm kind of an outlier Tool fan, too. I'm a 74 year old retired physician, graduated high school in the Summer of Love, 1967. I was there for the toddler years of rock and roll, although I missed the birth --- Ike Turner / Rocket 88, Link Wray / Rumble. After the phenomenal 1978 crop of new bands and new releases, we imperceptibly began the Long Slide into the Sea of Drek that is modern music. Morphine was a brief respite, until Mark Sandman took performance art to the extreme and died onstage.
My son, who's 33, alerts me to the few luminous exceptions on the musical landscape, and Tool was one of them. As a former musician myself I get caught up in the emergent phenomena that arise from their edgy but accessable polyrhythms and ear-snaring use of unconventional instruments. Karnivool gives me a similar buzz, maybe slightly less bleeding edge creatively but more rhythmically engaging. 80% of King Crimson's work is still relevant for much the same reason. If you're not familiar with these last two, your Tool addiction suggests you might want to take a listen.
I'm rambling, too. I like your site, like your taste, have subscribed. If the quality of your choices holds up, I'll go to Patreon.

All 3 playing until you eventually hear the small percussions beginning. The songs about the imaginary conversations and arguments we have in our head with our mental projections of other people. pretty trippy subject. like you're pissed at someone, so you imagine a whole conversation that never even happens, yet can further taint your opinion of that person even though they were never involved.

Went to this tour last year. During this song, confetti fell from the rafters. And if you picked up the confetti and pieced it together, there were two or three different posters. People looked at me like I was crazy, running around picking up the confetti off the ground. Lol.

Polo, Tool concerts are incredible. As you know every song sends you on a journey, and what better way to enhance that journey by amazing visuals effects. Pink Floyd shows were famous for their laser light shows set to their music. Tool puts their spin on the same live show experience philosophy. I’ve seen Tool 6 times and they get better every single time. The one show I will spend $$$ to witness their craft. Another great note about Tool, they don’t allow photos during the show, so no phones up disrupting the experience for anyone. On the last 1-2 songs they give permissions to take photos because people are social media zombies.

I don't believe I've seen you do a reaction to "Prison Sex" by Tool. It's almost 30 years old but also is part of the catalyst that led them to their unique sound. They, truly, are their own genre. Like many, though, I think you'll find their earlier songs more aggressive. And since I am commenting, the song "H." is my favorite. You should definitely react to that. It slightly embodies what they would become as a band in their later years in in my opinion

I had a conversation with a guy back in like 1996 about Tool vs NIN. I was a huge NIN fan and believed the years would show. Well, Trent Reznor has since gotten Grammys, Oscars, and even CMT awards. He's incredible with his musical impressions, but around 2001-2 Perfect Circle turned me onto Tool. 10,000 Days is by far one of my favorite albums (still behind Downward Spiral). Maynard has such an amazing voice, and their guitars and lyrics are beyond reproach. But, the cyclic nature of NIN music still holds me.

Fear Inoculum is the pinnacle of Tool’s brilliance. This is their greatest work to date. Not to say previous Tool wasn’t equally brilliant, but the maturation of this work speaks to all of us who have experienced and witnessed the juggernaut that is global, corporate Capitalism…..and what it’s left in its wake. A call to arms, if you will. A plead for us to step back and think about what is transpiring.
