Big fan mark I’m off 5 hit a draw I hit my driver 80% power find every fairway yes really boring goes 240 but when I try stepping on one I hit the ground a foot from the ball it’s coming in from a great angle I’d love to fix this but it’s not the end of the world thanks Shaun

Yeah completely agree. Although some channels may title their video's the same I have found that none of them go Into depth with the pro's and con's of a swing adjustment and some of the pitfalls to look out for.

There's really one main lesson we need to learn to get better at this game as fast as possible and that's that we aren't our own best teacher. I feel like I'm getting close to the next step and getting to scratch golf. And I know, if I want to get there before I die of old age, it's time to get more lessons.
And Mark, your lesson today seems particularly timely. I played 27 holes today and the main swing thought I was using was keep the face closed on the take away. I was trying to hit a lot of stingers today but right now I'm thinking I should be using that swing thought more often. I tend to open the face up on the take away with my normal swing. I'm enamored with the tall ball flights I'm getting. But it does tend to lend a bit of chance to getting it back closed at impact. And today while just having fun I noticed my dispersion even with lots of cross breeze was better. I guess it could be just a good day. But I'd say that after years of watching your video's, Peter Finch's, Matt's, and even the Golf Mates and the Good Good guys and many others, I've learned how to turn better, my posture over the ball has improved, I'm using the ground better which has gotten me some of the distance back that age had taken and basically given me a better game in most every aspect. And I just want you to know, I'm grateful.

#1 fix is what I've focused on to start the season....so much better thru impact so far! I was always a "fan it open" swinger. Now I focus on that takeaway and I'm squaring it much easier. Cheers!

First fault was definitely my problem. A driver fitting showed me that. Best lesson I ever had. Zero swing path but holding the face open.

Watching you swing keeping too much weight on your left side was a light bulb moment for me. I had tried ( with some success) the stack & tilt method before realising it was straining my left knee. I couldn’t feel why I was not striking the ball properly when going back to what I thought was a conventional swing until I saw you demonstrate it. Thank you so much Mark .

Great video Mark. Many thanks. I am working on loosening up my wrists to try to get more club speed - I can do it on my practice swing but I tense up when I have a ball in front of me and my wrists remain a bit too fixed.

Thanks for the video. Currently working on my takeaway as my first lesson the other week was aimed at this, due to my club face "opening" on the takeaway. But this has resulted in a few shots hooked out to the left.

  • @barryread3672

I love your drill for starting your backswing with a bit of pushing the club into the forward swing and then swinging it to the top of the backswing. It helps me with my sequencing, pressure changes from front to back and takes the tension out of my arms and shoulders. I am currently playing that way with much more solid strikes and some added distance. I don't care why it works for me. I grew up playing baseball so I have a lot of hit in my golf swing as opposed to a swinging motion where the ball just gets in the way. In baseball we step into the ball with the lead foot/leg as the pitch comes toward us. Using this drill just relaxes me and takes care of the pressure changes without having to think about it...oh and btw, less painful to my old body. Would love to see you demo a step type drill. Cricket players do something similar don't they. Sorry, I'm a yank so haven't seen too much cricket over here.

takeaway blackhole. Thanks Mark, I might have to do a little bit of experimentation with how takeaway affects my delivery at impact. I played this morning and had no 7 iron, so I wanted to play a wipey cut with a 6 iron, and had a feeling of coming down from the top from the outside rather than on the way back, but this may be something to think about.

This si something that was changed during a lesson, that was all my Pro did. Paid for an hour lesson just to have my backswing changed. He filmed it and showed me how the club wasn't square for very long, after the lesson it was squrer for a longer period. So basically increased the hitting zone increasing my consistency.

I wasn’t in the textbook position at parallel 1 (pointing a little more too the ground ‘closed’)so he had me working on. Hit the position no problem! When I put it into practice lost a club and a half distance could only hit weak fades 🙄

My swing trigger has unconsciously become a slight forward press which with the irons is not really an issue but with the driver it causes the straighter face to open up, not the best when my bad shot with the same club is over the top 🤨 over exaggerating my high rights

  • @rvhextall

This is precisely why most people struggle with golf. So glad I got out of positional golf. Simply throw a golf club low at your target, let your body get out of the way naturally both ways. Work on your grip. Your elbows and wrists fold and hinge automatically as it’s built in with our evolution. Science has proven that positional golf swings are inferior to natural movements. Watch some Brandel Chamblee or Shawn Clement. Stick to course vlogs Mark, they’re great.

Disclaimer: This comment is nothing to do with what you are teaching, just a comment about this type of video.
For me most of this type of stuff is way to generic and very this is the only way to do X. I used to try one thing, then another and another. Obviously that is never going to work. You have to practice, practice practice, with the intention of trying to grove a certain thing in your swing. For me, I spend two to three weeks practicing a swing movement before I am satisfied I have fairly well grooved it before I move on to the next thing. Sticking with one coach that works with you and your specific abilities to progress forward is the way to go for me.
My main critique is I don't think all this helps anyone at all. Have a look at TH-cam and the amount of Channels about improving your golf and compare that to say Football, Tennis or Snooker. You will find the Golf channel's outnumber them all put together. Why is that. Obviously because golf is so bloody hard and everyone is searching for a fix for one fault or another. Practice does not make perfect, the right practice and slow progression does work, but that's boring so most people don't bother. Hence average handicaps barely budging for decades.
