A thoughful examination Mark of the do's and dont's of hitting the driver for the recreational golfer. Your capacity to maintain interest and keep it simple......was a credit to your many years as a golfing instructor. One of the better vids out there amongst the many.
I am 3 minutes in and I’m already so thankful for this video. you explain things to the point where I have no questions left, which is soo key to trying to really understand!! This is top top work mark!!
I just forwarded this video to a friend who I was trying to help, at his request, in my hitting bay. You video shows exactly what I was trying to convey, but in a much more professional and instructive manner. Thanks.
Left ear to the ball, right hand off, and then introduce the right hand from the side resulting in tilt....GOLD sir. I was working with my 11yr old last week to develop the tilt and setup with driver, and you put it perfectly with no overcomplication. Kudos to you again for straight forward, incitefull tips that all can use and learn from.
9:50-ish point ... when you are demonstrating the different forms of bad swings. I think through people I play with (and probably me, I just don't see me) and recognize almost each one. Your ability to mimic all of these mis-hit styles is truly brilliant. So informative. Keep these videos coming!
This is Mark at his very best. Intelligent, informative, and relatable playable tips that can be used by the average golfer. Lessons like this sets him apart from others instructors on the Tube.
Thankyou Mark I owe you one.My story I have Been consistently hitting my driver comfortably, then I had few weeks of hooks ,topping you name it I done it, been racking my brains to the point I wasn't confident hitting the driver. After watching the video and tweeking my grip slightly to neutral wowwww what a change back to straight and a draw many thanks Mark keep up the good work. TARIQ
I've been a subscriber for a long time, since the Golf Guru days, and I can't believe how much quality content Mark has consistently put out over the years. The amount of work that must go into coming up with video ideas, planning and recording them, editing, etc. is just mind-boggling! Amazing stuff as usual, keep it up.
Yeah good stuff. I have made every amateur mistake you mention over the years. I am now having weekly hour lessons. Which has improved my game completely. But my handicap is still going up as it takes time for the transition to bed in. However the game is much more enjoyable sometimes lol.
Yet another great video Mark. Thanks for the way you explain things without over complicating it! Im very grateful a friend recommended you. Keep up the good work! You're welcome! 😉
Really good video. I know you’ve given us Driver downswing ideas before. But always appreciate a fresh video on certain elements even though I regularly search through your library. Downswing sequence is where it goes wrong for me often. I know what I should do, but trying to do it is something I continue to struggle with. Thanks
This is a brilliant video. So much to unpack so I'd advise people to watch it a few times. I really liked the ball position part as I can get stuck a bit here. I struggle most with driver and I want to get back to it being the fun club I know it can be to hit.
Yep, solid tips gave me improved performance off the tee last wknd. I also found that the feeling of a slower swing speed resulted in longer, more controlled yardages and even brought in more of a draw bias for me. No need to smash the granny out of it and risk misdirected shots as a result.
Solid video on cause and effect!! The slightest alterations have a huge effect on the outcome of a shot. Good and BAD! Inside the left heel or even slightly back should be the ticket. Never forward of that. It makes a player lunge and cut across the ball. Your fine video emphasizes this beautifully.
Gripping the driver from low resonated with me the most. I find my setup to be less consistent than I'd like and think this tip will help. Cheers Mark 🍻
Surprise, surprise, worked on this on the range this morning pre Roll Up. Went out and our 3 ball (2 to count) won with 85 points and most of my drives were much better, thanks Mark, turning pro next week after today’s big money win (£7 each)
Another great video Mark. My driver has been on the naughty step for awhile and I have relied on my 3 wood. However, it doesn’t give much flex if I have an off day. Therefore, going to get back to working on the driver with these tips and hopefully get it back to where it was - which is what made my handicap come down due to being able to hit shorter clubs into greens!
Fantastic indeed.I vouch for your method of teaching. It is away from too much technical jargon compared to others.simple and powerful. Manzoor Golf instructor
Great lessons as always Mark. I have a swing that de-lofts all my clubs and no matter what I try nothing sorts it long term. My irons are fine with good ball contact getting it up in the air but I have always struggled with my driver flight being very low: it's great when its dry or on a links course but in the wet or on a hilly course i'm better with my 6 iron. I went for a lesson recently and whilst chatting to the pro he set up a 12 degree driver and added 2 degrees loft - what a revelation as it flew high and long. Now all I can look at on the internet are new shiny drivers with variable loft.
Love the lesson Mark. What I like to do for ball position is put my feet together with ball right between feet. Then turn front foot out slightly then step back with back foot. Encourages the same set up everytime.
This is great stuff Mark! The alignment of body match ups with all the joints and such is a great explanation! This video is gold for those of us searching for that control we all want with the long ball.
Thank you Mark for helping us and your style of explanation makes it easy for us to understand. For whatever the reason my driver has got to pot the last couple of years. This has reopened my eyes and cannot wait to hit the range. Thanks again.
Your tips are always spot on. I have aspects of what you covered today as part of my pre shot routine. It does help no end with trying to be consistent. My biggest thing is stopping hitting the ball into the stratosphere. If only I could reduce my height by 20m and add it to the length. Thanks for you effort.
Thanks for your golf lesson. You explain things real well, I appreciate it very much. I’ve been looking at a lot of golf lessons lately and this was very helpful
This is so true, it's easy stuff to get right and that also makes it easy to just forget. I have more of a routine for my putting and short game, which is probably why they are better than my driving!
Not really sure how I pull it off but one time after a few beers and always failing with my driver I decided to play my driver with the ball WAY out in front like you showed in your example. The inside of my thumbs are both on either side of the grip respectively and it almost seems the harder I swing the straighter it goes🤷🏽♂️. I don’t question it and smash away. I have since kept that grip for the rest of my irons (except ball position is more in the middle) and they have slowly improved. The only clubs I can’t really do that with are my hybrids, they seem to leak left on me. Great video as always thanks.
This excellent. Half of the battle to hit good shots is a proper set up. I sometimes see people set up in such a way that I know I am going to see a bad shot. They would have to be magicians to hit good shots from some set ups.
Thanks for these, make complete sense! I definitely see myself with a grip and ball position leaning towards the extremes you mention. A straightforward pre-shot routine is something I aspire to, and same applies to a 'swing thought'
Hi Mark, thought I would give some feedback on your driver setup tips. I watched this video on Friday and took these thoughts to the range on Saturday and Sunday. Playing off of 9.8 I am quite a steady golfer but now trying to take it to the next level. My driving has always been my nemesis to the point in comps I would hit 3 wood off the tee rather than driver. Working through your setup drills particularly introducing the trail hand from underneath the results have been incredibly. With the club championship this Saturday and Sunday coming I will definitely taking the driver out with me. Thank you for sharing your tips, keep them coming. Thank you again Mark, Best Regards. Steve.
Mark, I'm realizing that most of the people on the golf course that can't play golf, or even some that can sometimes but then don't understand why they are inconsistent, don't know that they should be swinging mostly with their lead arm (lightbulb: the arm/hand that is wearing a glove for grip) and that the golf swing is a pull not a push. Most people are trying to whack the ball with their trail arm mostly. I have never seen any video in many years that tells people this, nor do coach's. You should do a video about this!
Great video, thank you! Trying for a consistent preshot routine, can be tricky though especially on the course when thoughts of the hole, strategy and lie get in the way. Especially when it’s questions over the lie, even whether it’s the right club too.
Great video , some absolute gems in this . Always amazing how even experienced golfers slip into bad habits , going to use this video as a reference point . Just got to look at what the pro's practice 🙌
Good video with lots of useful info that cuts through a lot of the normal b/s. I also enjoyed your star appearance on "No Putts Given"! Excellent input, particularlyre shafts (which I've heard you say before!! I've never known Tony Covey be so quiet during a show!!!!!
Really well explained and visually easy to follow video, love videos like this. 1 point I would of liked to have seen, was if the ball position was more to the middle! I think I struggle with this and I keep hitting my ball left of the tee or towards the top of my face in a choppy action and wondered if that was the cause. Great video and would love your advice on that point if your able. Many thanks 🙏
To me, this was one of your more helpful instructional videos. Saw myself in the "ball forward " stance. Although when I overdo it I get a hook not a slice.
Really helpful. You have added 10 to 20 yards on my drive and straighter. And i still have that ugly draw when needed 😂😂Cheers sir . Very simple advice. I love the way you show the array of wrongs first.
Hi Mark - excellent video as always. One thing I wish you had covered was how far to stand away from the ball at address. Do you have a thought on this you’d like to share?
Great tips Mark. Sounds exactly like what my coach used to tell me when I started golfing. My preshot routine is to pray I keep the ball in play then hit.
Hi. Very useful video, thanks, even I like the videos on the course I really appreciate those teaching ones, both together helping us improve our game. Cheers
this is crazy I have such a Horrible slice and i got my driver out in my front room and just set up like i normally would and as i watched your video and all the things i was doing look like they are causing a slice. You literally made it feel so imple rather than too complicated and when i set up like you showed it just felt so more natural! I am going to the range tonight to make things more neutral and really try to fix this slice as its ridiculous. Im not talking just missing the fairway here im talking going 2 -3 fairways right to the point i literally have give up on driver last few weeks and only hit irons!
Great tips! I noticed thst iI really struggle with keeping my shoulders square to the target (from this I bet you know I generally go 'over the top' and slice my drives), so have purposefully started closing them a little, which now results in a slight left, albeit straight shot. My miss is still a slice, but mostly a lot less vicious 👍
Hi Mark. Really enjoy these instruction videos, it really help understanding this hard game better. I find it difficult the to keep the trail elbow close to my body in the downswing with the driver like you do, hope you would touch on this in the future :) Keep up the good work, massively appreciated
Excellent content as always! Will be more considerate of a few things here, especially aim I think, may try a to tweak a few things here and there though some of the faults mentioned are not present for me.
Another great video....would love to see what a proper setup looks like from the players view. I need to know what this looks like from my perspective. Thx bro!
Couple of great tips in there that I can’t wait to try, as well as a couple of “I so do that!” moments. Also love that so many of these vids are on my home course. Love to see a vid on “pre-shot routines” as mines very hit and miss. Thanks for the content, Mark 🙏👍
Will use some of these ideas .I’ve already come from an 18 down to a 10 but shot in the 5 and 6 some days. That was off Yellows. I am now hitting off the whites with a few mixed results.Golf is hard sometimes 😔.

You are, quite simply, brilliant at explaining these things Mr Crossfield. Thank you.

One of your best videos Mark.
I keep coming back to this one when i have lost my way.
Best golf video online. Period. Saved me 8 strokes yesterday. Brilliant.

Great information Mark. Gave me a few new things to try just from this one video. Thank you sir!
Brilliant hope it helps.
Love the put the right hand up to the grip from below! Improved my launch angle big time!
Mark is brilliant. So understandable and simple for high h/cappers. Thanks Mark.

Great sensible basic instructions as always Mark. Thanks.
Greatest driver tips video I ever seen and effected. Great help!
Bringing the right hand up under the club is brilliant!!! Cant wait to try it.

Tried putting the trail hand on last yesterday at the driving range and it made a massive difference! Thank you for the great tip!
Well done. Easy to follow! Love your personality. Entertaining and informative. I can see why you are a teacher.

Thanks Mark, going back to the basics with a simple change to my grip has made a huge difference. Great work much appreciated!
Thankyou Mark. This is the best and most well explained Driver instruction video I have seen. If this doesn't improve my swing nothing will👍.
Your tips are always spot on. I have aspects of what you covered today as part of my pre shot routine. It does help no end with trying to be consistent. I've watched so many driver tips videos...this was by far and away the best explained one...thanks a lot
Appreciate this type of video. We can all use basic reminders occasionally!
That’s the best explanation of driver set up that I’ve seen. Thanks Mark
Simply great video ! Helpful, classical and efficient. Merci Monsieur!
Thanks for these tips Mark. This video really changed my tee shots and improved my game. I really appreciate your advise!! 👍👍
Thanks for your golf lesson. You explain things real well, I appreciate it very much. I’ve been looking at a lot of golf lessons lately and this was very helpful
One of the best vids actual checks to use on course, really liked the left ear behind ball, i tend to lean towards left and not notice thx 👍
Those are some solid tips that can help any golfer. Thanks, Mark!

Simple, clear and precise. Great things to take onto the range and then the course, keeping it simple. Thanks Mark, golden this one is.
Watched this video then played today. Had one of my best days driving ever. Thanks.
Mark, one of your best, watched it a couple of times - Thanks!

Great video, as someone who went from hitting driver 324 on GC2 to unable to hit it of late I will be studying this one.
Love the depth you went into really made me realize some mistakes I need to work on.
thanx Mark Great Post .... will Apply Some of your useful Tips ....Awesome !!
Dear Mark great tips, thanks for your help!
To me, this was one of your more helpful instructional videos. Saw myself in the "ball forward " stance. Although when I overdo it I get a hook not a slice.
Yet another fantastic video Mark!!

Great video Mark. Hopefully this will help me next time I play, seem to have a tendency to stay on my back foot during my downswing.
MC at his best with this type of technical content 👏🏽
Thankyou so much Mark Fantastic tips, your helping me so much with my game 👍👍
Hi Mark. Love this video. Hitting drives 40% right and that's improving. I have been at a loss on what to do next. You might have cracked it for me 👍
Thanks for this lesson Mark it will give my game so much more consistency.
Hi Mark - excellent video as always. One thing I wish you had covered was how far to stand away from the ball at address. Do you have a thought on this you’d like to share?
Fabulous! Very well explained. Even I understood it. Thanks.
Mark this was a great video. Extremely helpful tips. Thanks.
Good 👍🏼 video on set up - I have & still make some of these mistakes. Now I understand why I sometimes slice the ball with the driver.
Thanks for the advice. Will try to implement tomorrow.
Ok, will work on this on the range before tomorrow’s roll up, thanks Mark
Great tips Mark. Sounds exactly like what my coach used to tell me when I started golfing.
My preshot routine is to pray I keep the ball in play then hit.

Great video, subscribed. I think I cover all these bases but still tend to slice. Perseverance is key. Back to the range
Hi Mark. Really enjoy these instruction videos, it really help understanding this hard game better.

Thank You so much for all the useful information, makes sense to me
Thanks Mark for a great refresher
Another great video....would love to see what a proper setup looks like from the players view. I need to know what this looks like from my perspective. Thx bro!
thanks for the tips great reminder to all of the little mistakes we make .
Hope they help
Couple of great tips in there that I can’t wait to try, as well as a couple of “I so do that!” moments. Also love that so many of these vids are on my home course. Love to see a vid on “pre-shot routines” as mines very hit and miss. Thanks for the content, Mark 🙏👍
