My man Steve always thinking and explaining outside the box to separate the noise from the signal! Well done, that explains the "take the club" straight back comment that everyone always hears but never understood.
I just don't know why you don't have more subscribers than you do. You explain things so simply and beautifully. plus, you transmit a true joy of what you are doing. At a risk of bringing up the name of a competitor, I find you and Danny Maude are my two favorite TH-cam golf instruction sites. I really wish I lived in the British Isles so I could get to meet both of you. Keep doing what you do the way you do it, and you will have 250K subscribers in no time. I totally enjoy your instructional videos.
I have struggled to have a sound and consistent club take away for years and until now alas it had always eluded me . Cant wait to practice what you have just taught, I can feel an eureka moment coming on !!! Thank you so so very much for this great instructional video , you have made an old man very happy.
Thank you!! I have been fighting my golf swing for years now. This video got me into the position I was in when I shot my first 9 par streak. That was 10 years ago. As soon as I got into this position years of shots came flooding into my head. So many pure shots from feeling. I am so appreciative of you making this video. I finally felt what I have been chasing. My mind is literally blowing up right now.
I almost feel as though I'm squeezing 2 tennis balls in the front of my hips upon address. That leads to pressure between the knees. Feels like there is a beach ball there. So incredibly stable. Thank you, thank you, thank you
This is brilliant, Steve. For years I suffered taking it "straight back" which meant, in fact, getting it outside the line, as you so clearly show, and then inevitably over the top. For a player such as me, doing it correctly, as per your drill sequence, at first feels as if it is too much inside. Trust it though and solid contact becomes its own reward. This lesson is platinum!
Steve, where do you come up with all these easy but fantastic tips ? Perhaps after a few pints, your mind starts to wonder n eureka, another great idea ! I’ve tried this method but the more pints the less I remember…. Have a great season
Get to play once a week have been single figures before. Not much time for practice. Lost my way previously for a while. This drill gave me the feeling of the club path again. I found it easy to relate with a club in my hand also. The famous saying of I have found my set up lol! Anyway top tip cheers very much.
Steve..I would be more than happy to buy you a pint, for all the great no nonsense instruction you give, you should add one of those donation option to your channel. No doubt other subscribers would support you via this. Your a top man!
Thanks Steve, when I fly to Narita in Japan the airplane flies on a straight line relative to the target. If I look at the flight path from 90 degrees to the target the path is curved because it follows the curve of the earth. If your club is perfectly on a circular plane there is only an i finely short time and place where the plane line and the target line will coincide. Mo Norman imagined he could make them coincide for about a foot! It was that illusion that made him a spectacular striker of the golf ball yet it was an illusion he created to give him tremendous accuracy!! Actually coinciding those two lines on the course is an almost practically impossible task that makes golf the great game it is!
Hi Steve. You now recommend a neutral grip. Go back 5 years on your channel you demonstrated the " Benifits of a strong grip". I use a strong grip which enables me to hit driver further and straighter. 250 yds and I'm 75 years. Shawn Clements daughter uses a strong grip and her driver hits go 250yrd carry. I think they way we grip the club is very much a personal thing. One way to grip does not suit all. But l enjoy your videos cheers
STEVE....Jack Nicklaus was asked what amateurs don't do...on back swing...take club back on a line between the great toe and ball left shoulder should drop down 5 or 6 inches. Upper arms firmly against chest..feel pull in left shoulder...I find I get very solid strikes..also for me much more powerful with slightly open stance. A Highland Ross..
Steve the flapping penguin Johnstone. Being amazing again. Love this detail. I hear you as im playing... there. There. There. Easy.... hahaha thanks brother.
Great video as always can you tell your viewers when using the swing plate as a training aid make sure there is no way your hands can hit it only the club. Otherwise you could end up like me 14 stitches in your finger and an enforced lay off.
I wish you were with me at the range this evening. I had the dreaded S...word, I've never in my life hit so many sideways shots. Is there a cure for this..?
Arrow pull is for body awareness within muscle groups. This drill is strictly for club path. They both work together depending on what you struggle with
In a different context, a man in a log cabin alone talking to himself all day would be considered "crazy"... stick a camera up and post it on line its hes a "genius" Thanks for clearing that up, i was always taking the "straight back" advice to literally and disconnecting my arms but telling myself i had to do it 🤦♂️. Its in my bucket list to come over to Scotland on a golf trip, get a few lessons from you and play st Andrew's.
Another golf myth destroyed. The straight back as long as possible on the target line has been taught and is still being taught today. I’ve ALWAYS disputed this saying the club is going around as your bent over, it’s not possible without manipulation. But even some pros swear by this. I don’t and he has proven it. I guess what ever works for you. To me, the less manipulation, the less moving parts, the ability to have a repeatable swing.
Wrong! When you demonstrate the straight back, you don’t rotate or coil your body! It’s never meant to be straight along the target line, it’s meant to be straight in relationship to your shoulder line! Nobody ever takes a golf swing without using the body!
I tell all my mates at my golf club to watch this channel, Steve is a natural teacher. He could probably teach particle physics to my dogs
started off thinking you were off your nut… but as you went along - “💡” it became clear; Steven, you’re a mad genius!
My man Steve always thinking and explaining outside the box to separate the noise from the signal! Well done, that explains the "take the club" straight back comment that everyone always hears but never understood.
This is one of if not the best illustration of the golf swing that there is. Awesome Steve

Mind blown. Your work here is done.

I have a thick chest and short arms.. like my Ross ancestors !so this really works for me Dennis
From Ted Hunts tips for weekend golfers by Ben Hogan.

Now would this apply to driver as well but more exaggerated?
Another great easy lesson Steve Like how i can do the arm movements indoors. By the way whats in your bag for this season.
Back with the trail scapular and then forward with the lead scapular. That’s how I do it. How about your Steve?
Amazing video the secret is out now 🎉
Well done!
Steve Johnson brilliant.
Steve, great video - where did you get the alignment stick holder - i have been looking for one for ages & failing...?

I wish you were with me at the range this evening. I had the dreaded S...word, I've never in my life hit so many sideways shots. Is there a cure for this..?
Brilliant!!!
very cool!
Sly and the Family Stone funky. AVB funky. Golf is fun ky
So is that the best way to play a 3/4 swing shot? When you do a full turn the arms go up and above the plane .
"There, there, there, and then there." Ergo...the ergo-nomics put you "there"!
Paid $130 for lesson in which I got told exactly this. Wish I came to youtube first!
Welcome 🙏🏻
Last week it was loading a bow and now this whatever next ? It’s not easy too much to follow for a simple old man😀😩👍
Arrow pull is for body awareness within muscle groups. This drill is strictly for club path. They both work together depending on what you struggle with
Who’s a clever boy then. 😊
what about jack nicklaus golf swing(very upright)

I disagree with this because I do it but then I go up
