That's awesome. I live in Arkansas and love to float the Buffalo. We live very close to it. I have been getting ideas for a weekend float trip, but we have to wait until after our dog goes. She is old with diabetes and don't want to put the burden on someone else to watch her and give injections. I have thought about making my own dehydrated dinners, mostly soups and pasta meals. I love the cereal idea. Super easy and light.
You are so lucky living close to such a treasure. It is such a beautiful place. I hope you find the time to get on the river. Good luck dehydrating your meals. I have done a little of that as well lately. Thanks for watching and the kind comments. Take care.
Interesting to see how others do it! Last year we took about 12 cans of Campbell’s hearty soups a piece and a bunch of cans of smoked oysters and sardines. Also I love taking beef jerky to keep out and snack on throughout the day. One thing I will say is that with the soup cans it is kind of a hassle because you end up with a bunch of empties by the end.
What ever works, is what I say :). Definitely do what works for you. I can imagine those cans would be kind of a pain to deal with, but I hope you enjoyed the trip! Thanks for stopping by the channel. Take Care!
After watching your trip video I was wandering how you pack your food up for that many days. Very nice to see how you laid everything out for each day. Pretty helpful for me and many others.
Thanks for watching! You might have noticed at the very last of the video, I have each day in a large freezer ziploc bag, marked days 1-6. I then pack those in two different roll top dry bags. That seemed to work out well.
Hey! Nice video! I’d be really interested in seeing a video of how you pack your kayak for such a trip! I have the Loon 126 ordered, and also purchased the chinook 25 litre deck bag. I’m planning a couple trips for next year so I’m curious to see how you packed your kayak! Keep up the great videos!
This video just made my Buffalo trip easier! Thank you, but I do need your assistance on fresh drinking water. For this trip, did you take bottle water, or did you use water bags? I am thinking about using bottle water for brushing my teeth, hand-washing, cooking, and for kitchen clean up. I will then take an empty 2 gal. plastic jug to haul the Buffalo River water in for bathing. I am averaging my drinking water to eight bottles a day. A lot of water bottles = less storage pace in my yak! Yet, I do not want to run out of water either. And suggestions would be wonderful!
+Lynette Lee I'm glad you liked the video, thanks for watching. As for your question, I used the Sawyer squeeze water filter, as I do with most trips. They work well and the water tasted perfectly fine to me. If you have any worries about if you will like the taste, bring along some flavoring, like Crystal Light packets or Mio liquid. I'm sure you are probably unsure about the river water if you have never filtered water before, but believe me, it works and is much easier that trying to haul around that much water. It takes up a lot of space, and a gallon of water weighs a little over 8 pounds. Good luck and let me know what you decide and how it goes 😀
Thank you so much Outdoor Wanderer. I looked at the Sawyer squeeze water filters, and I placed it on my camping list. I think this system will work a lot better than the purifying tablets. People complain of taste issues from those. Just in case, I will be sure to pack some Crystal Light. Again thank you so much for all your tips.
I have never been a fan of most backpacking meals either. I suffered through many bad meals, lol. Packit Gormet is very different than most of the others. I actually enjoy most of their meals. As for the sodium, I hear ya. Often times it is a necessary evil in preserving foods though. Fresh is always better if you can solve the riddle of keeping it fresh. Thanks for watching and take care !
I had not heard of Packet Gourmet. I will have to look into. It looks like you have a good layout. I like easy to eat or cook idea. Have a fun on the trip, BUT I have One question...is your food bag Travis proof? :)
+Lee Ralph They really are much better than the standard dehydrated meals we all know, in my opinion. I'm really looking forward to this trip. I will definitely keep my eye on Travis, when it comes to my food bag, lol. Thanks for watching!

+Adventures With A Cherokee Thanks, I appreciate it. Take care.
Awesome video. Not a fan of the freeze dried meals, plus they are loaded with sodium. I will have to try the packet gourmet. Thanks,
