I agree completely. I still remember when that movie came out half the internet thought it was the worst casting decision ever, but then it came out and you couldn’t go grocery shopping without seeing someone with green hair and makeup on 😂.

I have genuinely never seen anyone love or even like Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor.

If your not expecting comic book accurate Luther he isn’t terrible, gets a lil better on future watches
There are some good things in Batman v Superman, but I have absolutely no idea how anyone can defend Eisenberg's Luthor. The movie already has a lot of issues, but Eisenberg alone is almost enough to sink it for me.
Worst casting ever
Apparently the original idea was for The Riddler to be a villain in Batman V Superman, he auditioned for that role and got given Luthor instead because plans changed...like okay maybe don't cast him in a completely different role he wasn't the right choice for? 😂
My favorite Batman Villain is Mark Hamill's Joker from Batman: The Animated Series (1992-1995).
Michelle pfeiffer’s scene in the sewer at the end… man that performance, the way her hair and make up, posture, expressions make her look like she really has nothing to lose is just crazy

Glad to see people think something reasonable,heath ledgers joker was a terrorist with makeup and a funny laugh.
No the joker was Jack... It was such a phoned in performance. And for that reason I'm out!.
Burton directed a more comic book accurate joker that at the time was around for 45 years. Nolan directed a better joker over new material of the last 20 years.
I am also a bigger Nicholson fan because that joker is the comic book joker of my time. He doesn't manipulate and create chaos. He is chaos. And everything he does is without a second thought of the repercussions. Jacks joker truly is psychotic, unhinged, and ultimately...going to lose because he has nothing planned out.
Ledgers joker is manipulative and deceitful. He pretends he is normal, he is crazy, or he is average to let others guards down. Ledgers joker fits from killing joke onwards of a broken good guy turned into the worst possible bad and his motive is to make others feel the same way he did. The grunge 90s and emo 00s had alot to do with that.
If it was reality, I would fear Nicholsons joker more because he has no sense. Ledgers joker pathology makes sense from a "loser tired if being kicked around. An outcast tured of being mistreated, if those nerdy kids that still want to play matrix dress up and tell you what the real world is" type of view.
With that said, you have to look at the fan base. More people will resonate with Ledgers joker because more people feel left out, or feel compelled to revolt against as system, than people feel towards Nicholsons joker where let's just face it....if you're not the joker, you're fodder.
To summarize, Nicholson is more accurate of the nihilism that the joker represents, but leader gave a better performance. It's just Nolan interpretation of the joker wasn't to promote nihilism, it was to promote poetic justice from a villains point of view.

35. Thalia Al Goul(The Dark Knight Rises). OMG, get this Bond bitch out of here. She is one of the biggest flaws of the film.
34. Bane(Batman And Robin). The only thing in this movie that is worse than the Bat Nips.
33. Poison Ivy(Batman And Robin). So horny and also have way more plants puns than I remembered.
32. Stephenwolf(Justice League 2017). MOTHER!!!!
31. Lex Luthor(BvS). I love this movie but he is the reason the movie is 8/10 instead of 9/10 for me. So bad!
30. Mr Freeze(Batman And Robin). It’s crazy that they used the Terminator like that. So many ice pins. But at least he tried. Now for the not so great ones.
29. Catwoman(The Dark Knight Rises). I really don’t this version, not enough edge...
28. lau(The Dark Knight). A very standard boring villain.
27. Catwoman(1966). She is far from Prrrfect.
26. The Riddler(1966). Really stupid Riddles. Carmine Falcone(Batman Begins). Really disappointing crime boss.
25. Two Face(The Dark Knight). I know for some you he is great and even though I liked him as Harvey, I still hated how they turned one of my favourite villains to a one time small villain that only killed two cops..
24. The Penguin(1966). That submarine definitely helped him get this high.
23. The Joker(Lego Batman). I didn’t liked this version of the character. He is funny but too whiny
22. Ronald Daggett(The Dark Knight Rises). Even though this character got me introduced to Ben Mendelssohn, I still don’t care for it.
21. The Joker(1966) to clownish for my taste. Doomsday. He was great as a mindless killing machine.
Joker(Joker 2019). Great actor but I don’t like this version as much as some other people do.
20. Sal Maroni(The Dark Knight) he was just a background character.
19. The Joker(Suicide Squad and ZSJL). Yes, that one scene from ZSJL is the only Reason he is not at the bottom tier.
Now for the villains I liked but didn’t quite get there for me.
18. Two Face(Batman Forever). Way too wacky but I did liked his henchwomen. Bane(The Dark Knight Rises). He was great but his voice and how he was Thalia’s bitch really ruined him for me.
17. Doomsday(BVS): he was ok as a mindless Killing Machine and looked ok, but I would prefer him to be even more threatening... however, he did killed Superman!
16. The Riddler(Batman Forever). So cheesy but I still like it because of the crazy acting of Jim Carry.
Now for the Villains I really like.
15. Stephenwolf(Zack Snyder’s Justice Leauge). He is perfect threat to a Supermanless Justice Leauge.
14. Ras Al Goul(Batman Begins). I loved the mentoring he gave to Bruce. I just wish they made him way stronger and more threatening.
13. The Riddler(The Batman). I didn’t liked the custom but I loved the character until he started freaking out, after that he was still ok but not as much.
12. Scarecrow(The Dark Knight Trilogy). He was so Amazing in Batman Begins but an embarrassment in the sequels so...
21. Max Shriek. I love him as the true evil corrupted rich man of Gotham. Also the first time I saw Christopher Walken...
now for the Villains I genuinely love and I think are some of the best ever.
11. Harley Quinn(DCEU). She is great but too overused and mostly way too overpowered.
10. Catwoman(The Batman). She was amazing. Loved that realistic and grounded version of the character. Also she shad great chemistry with Batman.
8. Phantasm(Batman: The Mask of Phantasm). Such a great one time villain. I love everything about it from design to secret identity. The
7. Penguin(The Batman). I loved Collin’s version. Grounded yet funny. Also like his attitude towards every single character in the movie.
6 .Carmine Falcone(The Batman). Wow, what a surprise it was. He was my favourite character in the movie. So shady and Shadowy. Loved John Turrtro take on the character.
5. The Joker(Batman: The Mask Of Phantasm): this is based on the movie alone, if you count the whole series he is definitely my favourite. In this movie it was the only time I ever really enjoyed Joker as a surprise villain since he had just the right amount of screen time.
4. The Joker(Batman 89). Such a great version and the only reason I go to rewatch this movie since I prefer Keaton in Batman Returns by a lot. But I still love that classic gangster Joker. 3. The Penguin(Batman Returns). Such an iconic take from Danny Devito. I love everything about this version from how twisted and horny he is to his crazy gadgets like weapon umbrellas or yellow duck boat. He also had the best goons in those circus henchmen of his. Also, imagine how this movie would end up if he managed to kill all the firstborns of Gotham.
2. The Joker(The Dark Knight). Even though I think every other aspect of this film is way overrated, the late Heath Ledger deserves all the praises he gets for this part!
1. Catwoman(Batman Returns). She is so great, no one will top her as Selina Kyle. Such a great interpretation of the character and my favourite Batman Movie villain!
Your my best friend now, Talia at last place. There are some lame/forgettable villains in comic book films but she’s a whole different ball park for me, her reveal cheapened TDKR for me, I loved the film up til that point.
@@WhiteDragonXXX she kinda ruined the film for me by cheapened the all film and making Bane to be a bitch... I also liked the movie up until that point. She’s the sole reason my favourite trilogy is the Snyder trilogy and not the Nolan trilogy...
I’m glad you considered Steppenwolf and Stumblenpuppy as two separate characters in this list because they pretty much are. One is sympathetic yet very menacing, and one is one-dimensional and dull as dishwater

#32 - Jared Leto’s Joker. Just the most cringe portrayal played by an even cringier human being.
In reference to your section on Colin Ferrell’s Penguin:
I absolutely loved his performance and love the character in The Batman. The one thing that makes Penguin stand out in my opinion is the fact that he is also from a wealthy, old money family from Gotham and that is what should be focused on in the future. He should be just as much a foil to Bruce Wayne’s persona as he is to Batman. This focus would bring us something we haven’t seen before. Let’s see Oswald Cobblepot out “Bruce Wayne” Bruce Wayne.
I would like to see them take the time to really give the villains their own personality to differentiate them from each other.
No other villain can take on Bruce Wayne in Gotham’s social elite circles like Oz. Riddler as a Jigsaw puzzle killer is what I’ve wanted to see for some time, and think Paul Dano did great! Bane and Hugo Strange should be similar but Bane being more physical while Hugo is more methodical / intellectual with a more cerebral battle (similar to Riddler, but in a more manipulative way).
Another villain I’d like to see is Zsasz. He should have been young Batman’s first villain other than the mob (Falcone and Muroni) in my opinion (similar to Kraven the Hunter should’ve been Spider-Man’s first villain). He could be the mob’s #1 hit man and have a reputation like John Wick. He would be a great villain for a young Batman getting used to the fact that he can’t save everyone.
I didn’t mean to write so much and I know it is a little jumbled but I had to get some of my thoughts out there.

@@megamikethemovieman So did I. He was great in the movie, but not in it enough for my tastes. Two-Face and Scarecrow were both reduced to side villains in the trilogy when they could both easily hold a film by themselves.

Batman is my favorite superhero, second is Spider-Man. I love the similarities they share but most importantly I love both of their villains. Villains make the superhero.

I don’t understand why everyone thinks Heath Ledger was “ The Joker” he wasn’t. Jack was the Comic book Joker come to life, completely insane, dangerous and funny.

Big K exactly, he is short and stocky unlike the spindly drawings of the Character but everything else is dead on.

All the gadgets; acid flower, hand buzzer, joker copter, joker cars, "bang" flag gag gun, etc. It really is the Joker come to life, at least the classic Joker. golden age. Classic origin story too, albeit some of the details were filled in. He was funny, but also murderous. the whole movie was incredibly joker-like. one of my favorite moments is when the news reporter dies with a rictus grin as the Joker cuts in on the TV *chef's kiss*. I never noticed until recently, but the Joker gas he kills the people at the museum with was purple and the gas at the end with the 200th anniversary float was green. so joker-y. I love it.

Mr. Freeze is one of my favorite villains of all time because of his new canon in the Animated Series. I despise what Batman & Robin did to his character and I reeeally hope Matt Reeves has a new idea for him. People are saying he’s a big Mr. Freeze fan so I’m hopeful. His backstory is so tragic and a villain whose motive I understand. A lot of people would do the same thing on his position. His love for his wife is stronger than his hate for everything else except maybe Ferris Boyle, who caused the whole thing in the first place. I get almost a darkly romantic Candyman vibe from him. His lines in Heart Of Ice still stick with me.
“Think of it, Batman. To never again walk on a summer’s day, with the hot wind in your face and a warm hand to hold. Oh yes, I’d kill for that.”
Honestly, if they portrayed the character similar to how he was handled in the Gotham TV series, he could be absolutely fantastic and deliver an EXTREMELY heartfelt and heartbreaking tragic story
@@themarvelanddcmarshlands Gotham wasted after his first 2 episodes in Season 2. They killed Nora off instead of cryogenically freezing her and Freeze became a glorified goon of other villains.
@@themarvelanddcmarshlands I’ve already mentally fancasted Christoph Waltz for Mr. Freeze. Incredible actor and he even has a German accent they can play into. He portrays a “cold” character amazingly. He’s a little on the older side now, but I think with makeup/good de-aging effects they could pull it off easily. Look what they did with Colin Farrell, after all. I’ve always viewed Mr. Freeze as a man in his 40’s-50’s. Older, like the Penguin.
I get why you didn't include Joaquin Phoenix's joker since he doesn't appear alongside Batman, but he should make the list imo. Great video as always. My top 4:

Health Ledger's Joker will always be the standard for comic book live action villains. Another great ranking video Cody.
Jack Nicholson is a great actor, his Joker is overrated, acts nothing like the Joker.

Biggest thing to keep in mind going in is that it is very much a slow burn, in depth detective story, but the payoff is well worth it.

The Jigsaw influence on Paul Dano’s Riddler was something I really appreciated as a massive Saw fan. The rat maze and the bomb collar used to take out the police chief and the DA, respectively, feel ripped straight of John Kramer’s sketchbook and I love it.
I loved your point in last videos regarding the dark knight and the hype for greatest comic film of all time ext.I definitely love that movie but I found when I expand my taste of film and of comedy horror and ext I still appreciate the dark knight trilogy but I don’t have it in such high regards like others

Arnold COULD make a good Freeze if it was more serious like his terminator and not campy, there were moments where he was good when he was sad and whatnot
I wanna travel to 1997 and watch Batman and Robin in a theater. Then I wanna take the people in the theater to 2012 so they can see the MUCH better version of Bane.
Bane from Batman & Robin was downright atrocious I'd rather have Steppenwolf from Josstice League than that then version of Bane

I actually went out as the 1966 Penguin for Halloween as a kid once, however I did not have the monicole he wears since I wasn't a rich man, and I didn't have the long nose since I found that to be quite uncomfortable.
All I can say is my top 2 is Pfeiffer and Ledger. Good day.

The Joker film is set in a universe before Bruce becomes Batman so the Arthur Fleck Joker doesn't really count. In that world Joker would have to be a persona for people to take up rather than one man because Fleck would be too old.
Finally saw the Batman and I'm just going to say...it's a masterpiece.

Heath's Joker is the Joker on an ultimate high, while Phoenix's Joker is him at his lowest point. They are both perfect versions of the Joker imo.
Btw Robert as Batman is perfect too because they took the Joker's look and essence and put that into the Batman which works so perfectly because it's Batman in his early years. One of the greatest superhero movies and my favorite rendition of The Batman and I can't wait for the next film.
Kinda late but as much as I love the Riddler he never really felt like a treat to Batman, no matter what version Batman is, the Riddler always felt to me more of like a villain that slows Batman down rather than being a threat. I belive the 2022 Riddler is actually morebof a threat to Batman where you die if you don't solve his riddles. I know the Penguin is kind of a goofy villain for a lot of people, but he still seemed threatening, especially the time in Batman Returns where the Penguin bites off a person's nose. Ether way I will always love the outfit designs of Batman 66' and Riddler's laugh from that show, but the 2022 Riddler is my favorite Riddler.

Personally the 1966 Batman villains had my favorite outfits from a Batman show/movie, catwoman's outfit is very fitting for the character and amazing, the Riddler's outfit is awesome, the Joker's outfit is good but it does have its drawbacks, and the Penguins outfit is good but does look silly when you really pick it apart. Ether way while they may not be the best interpretations of the characters, you can't deny that these outfits are great.

37:46 If not for Ledger's death we'd have definitely gotten his Joker a lot more and the original 3rd film plans sound like they were better than Rises. I also think Nolan planned to make a lot more than 3 Batman films but Ledger dying hit him hard so he stopped at 3.
If not for Ledger's death, his joker wouldn't be so damn overrated. That's not to say, his performance was bad, but that wasn't even remotely close to how the Joker should act.

Man, Nolan Bane is a joke. Forget how he could have "almost killed Batman," Batman hasn't been Batman for like 8 years and wasn't anywhere near 100%. Later in the film after he trains for a bit, he beats Bane down. Meaning if Bane showed up during Begins or TDK, Batman would have obliterated him.
Bane's name in Batman & Robin before he changed was Antonio Diego. It's mentioned briefly before the procedure.

Great ranking, Cody. I was surprised to see Arnold Schwarzenegger's Mr. Freeze so high up, but I can kind of understand where you're coming from. At the very least, I would still take him over Jesee Eisenberg's Lex Luthor.
Much like yourself, Cody, it took me awhile to understand the appeal of The Penguin, but if you dig deeply enough, there actually are some really good comics that feature him. "Pain and Prejudice" by Gregg Hurwitz and Szymon Kudranski in particular is a masterpiece and one of the best examinations of a villain that I've ever read. I highly recommend checking that out.
And yes, as cliché and predictable as it might be, Heath Ledger's Joker truly is the best onscreen Batman villain that we have ever gotten. Not only is he an excellent, interesting interpretation of the classic comic character, but he also stands as one of the all time great villains of cinema. Even with all of the great adaptations we have gotten of Batman villains over the years, I doubt Ledger will ever be surpassed.

It’s hard not to put Heath Ledger’s Joker at number 1. It’s one of the best screen performances since the turn of the century, a perfect reinvention of a long established character, and proved to be massively influential in allowing others to be more creative in their interpretations of the same character and others. His Joker is so iconic in it’s own right that it’s really transcended the traditional Joker character himself and acquired it’s own prestige. I remember leading up to The Dark Knight’s release, everyone held Jack Nicholson’s Joker on that pedestal of “well, that’s how you do the Joker”, and then after the movie came out, NOBODY was talking about Nicholson’s performance anymore. That’s like an unprecedented upstaging of iconography. It’s just a really, really special character and performance.
It was overblown because of heaths passing. It was good. But it wasn’t this cinematic masterpiece that everyone tries to make it out to be

While I liked Zoë Kravitz she was missing stuff like an iconic costume like I understand it’s supposed to be the beta version of catwoman but still the costume was okay just basic and she didn’t even have a whip. Michelle Pfeiffer on the other hand was amazing, costume iconic, performance amazing, she trained herself to use a whip you can tell during the movie how good she is, and the way catwoman is used in the movie being a bit crazy after being killed makes total sense since no one would act the same after an event like that.
For me Jack is #1, he is the classic Joker from the comics come to life, the Look the attitude the gimmicks, the lunacy all of it right there. Heath Ledger’s interpretation is brilliant as a real world type villain but just wasn’t The Joker to me.

One of the main points of his character is that people underestimate him and he uses that to his advantage. In Gotham he goes from Fish Mooney's umbrella boy to the top dog by being Falcone's inside man in Maroni's gang while playing those two off against each other.
