I agree completely. I still remember when that movie came out half the internet thought it was the worst casting decision ever, but then it came out and you couldn’t go grocery shopping without seeing someone with green hair and makeup on 😂.

The Jigsaw influence on Paul Dano’s Riddler was something I really appreciated as a massive Saw fan. The rat maze and the bomb collar used to take out the police chief and the DA, respectively, feel ripped straight of John Kramer’s sketchbook and I love it.

I’m glad you considered Steppenwolf and Stumblenpuppy as two separate characters in this list because they pretty much are. One is sympathetic yet very menacing, and one is one-dimensional and dull as dishwater
I have genuinely never seen anyone love or even like Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor.

If your not expecting comic book accurate Luther he isn’t terrible, gets a lil better on future watches
There are some good things in Batman v Superman, but I have absolutely no idea how anyone can defend Eisenberg's Luthor. The movie already has a lot of issues, but Eisenberg alone is almost enough to sink it for me.
Worst casting ever
Apparently the original idea was for The Riddler to be a villain in Batman V Superman, he auditioned for that role and got given Luthor instead because plans changed...like okay maybe don't cast him in a completely different role he wasn't the right choice for? 😂
My favorite Batman Villain is Mark Hamill's Joker from Batman: The Animated Series (1992-1995).

@@megamikethemovieman So did I. He was great in the movie, but not in it enough for my tastes. Two-Face and Scarecrow were both reduced to side villains in the trilogy when they could both easily hold a film by themselves.

In reference to your section on Colin Ferrell’s Penguin:
I absolutely loved his performance and love the character in The Batman. The one thing that makes Penguin stand out in my opinion is the fact that he is also from a wealthy, old money family from Gotham and that is what should be focused on in the future. He should be just as much a foil to Bruce Wayne’s persona as he is to Batman. This focus would bring us something we haven’t seen before. Let’s see Oswald Cobblepot out “Bruce Wayne” Bruce Wayne.
I would like to see them take the time to really give the villains their own personality to differentiate them from each other.
No other villain can take on Bruce Wayne in Gotham’s social elite circles like Oz. Riddler as a Jigsaw puzzle killer is what I’ve wanted to see for some time, and think Paul Dano did great! Bane and Hugo Strange should be similar but Bane being more physical while Hugo is more methodical / intellectual with a more cerebral battle (similar to Riddler, but in a more manipulative way).
Another villain I’d like to see is Zsasz. He should have been young Batman’s first villain other than the mob (Falcone and Muroni) in my opinion (similar to Kraven the Hunter should’ve been Spider-Man’s first villain). He could be the mob’s #1 hit man and have a reputation like John Wick. He would be a great villain for a young Batman getting used to the fact that he can’t save everyone.
I didn’t mean to write so much and I know it is a little jumbled but I had to get some of my thoughts out there.

Biggest thing to keep in mind going in is that it is very much a slow burn, in depth detective story, but the payoff is well worth it.

W list the riddler(2022) is so underrated
Mr. Freeze is one of my favorite villains of all time because of his new canon in the Animated Series. I despise what Batman & Robin did to his character and I reeeally hope Matt Reeves has a new idea for him. People are saying he’s a big Mr. Freeze fan so I’m hopeful. His backstory is so tragic and a villain whose motive I understand. A lot of people would do the same thing on his position. His love for his wife is stronger than his hate for everything else except maybe Ferris Boyle, who caused the whole thing in the first place. I get almost a darkly romantic Candyman vibe from him. His lines in Heart Of Ice still stick with me.
“Think of it, Batman. To never again walk on a summer’s day, with the hot wind in your face and a warm hand to hold. Oh yes, I’d kill for that.”
Honestly, if they portrayed the character similar to how he was handled in the Gotham TV series, he could be absolutely fantastic and deliver an EXTREMELY heartfelt and heartbreaking tragic story
@@themarvelanddcmarshlands Gotham wasted after his first 2 episodes in Season 2. They killed Nora off instead of cryogenically freezing her and Freeze became a glorified goon of other villains.
@@themarvelanddcmarshlands I’ve already mentally fancasted Christoph Waltz for Mr. Freeze. Incredible actor and he even has a German accent they can play into. He portrays a “cold” character amazingly. He’s a little on the older side now, but I think with makeup/good de-aging effects they could pull it off easily. Look what they did with Colin Farrell, after all. I’ve always viewed Mr. Freeze as a man in his 40’s-50’s. Older, like the Penguin.
You should do a top 10 live-action comic book villains. I think my personal top three would probably be Ledger's Joker, Brolin's Thanos, and Dafoe's Green Goblin in NWH (no order)

Batman is my favorite superhero, second is Spider-Man. I love the similarities they share but most importantly I love both of their villains. Villains make the superhero.

Bane's name in Batman & Robin before he changed was Antonio Diego. It's mentioned briefly before the procedure.
29:23 The comic, Batman Returns,Batman the Animated Series, Arkham, Gotham and this film's Penguins are all great IMO. One of the main points of his character is that people underestimate him and he uses that to his advantage. In Gotham he goes from Fish Mooney's umbrella boy to the top dog by being Falcone's inside man in Maroni's gang while playing those two off against each other.
Heath Ledger's performance as Joker is one of my favorite performances of all time, never mind just comic book movies. I was hypnotized. Like Cody said, when Heath was on screen I barely could breathe. I was so intent at staring at the screen. When the movie was over I was shaken because he made the character seem so real, I couldn't fathom how someone could do that. It made me think about what pure evil looks like and it looked like the Joker.

I actually went out as the 1966 Penguin for Halloween as a kid once, however I did not have the monicole he wears since I wasn't a rich man, and I didn't have the long nose since I found that to be quite uncomfortable.
We can only wonder what would have happened if Arnold Schwarzenegger was chosen to play Bane in that movie

I wanna travel to 1997 and watch Batman and Robin in a theater. Then I wanna take the people in the theater to 2012 so they can see the MUCH better version of Bane.
It’s hard not to put Heath Ledger’s Joker at number 1. It’s one of the best screen performances since the turn of the century, a perfect reinvention of a long established character, and proved to be massively influential in allowing others to be more creative in their interpretations of the same character and others. His Joker is so iconic in it’s own right that it’s really transcended the traditional Joker character himself and acquired it’s own prestige. I remember leading up to The Dark Knight’s release, everyone held Jack Nicholson’s Joker on that pedestal of “well, that’s how you do the Joker”, and then after the movie came out, NOBODY was talking about Nicholson’s performance anymore. That’s like an unprecedented upstaging of iconography. It’s just a really, really special character and performance.
It was overblown because of heaths passing. It was good. But it wasn’t this cinematic masterpiece that everyone tries to make it out to be

37:46 If not for Ledger's death we'd have definitely gotten his Joker a lot more and the original 3rd film plans sound like they were better than Rises. I also think Nolan planned to make a lot more than 3 Batman films but Ledger dying hit him hard so he stopped at 3.
If not for Ledger's death, his joker wouldn't be so damn overrated. That's not to say, his performance was bad, but that wasn't even remotely close to how the Joker should act.

Personally the 1966 Batman villains had my favorite outfits from a Batman show/movie, catwoman's outfit is very fitting for the character and amazing, the Riddler's outfit is awesome, the Joker's outfit is good but it does have its drawbacks, and the Penguins outfit is good but does look silly when you really pick it apart. Ether way while they may not be the best interpretations of the characters, you can't deny that these outfits are great.

Kinda late but as much as I love the Riddler he never really felt like a treat to Batman, no matter what version Batman is, the Riddler always felt to me more of like a villain that slows Batman down rather than being a threat. I belive the 2022 Riddler is actually morebof a threat to Batman where you die if you don't solve his riddles. I know the Penguin is kind of a goofy villain for a lot of people, but he still seemed threatening, especially the time in Batman Returns where the Penguin bites off a person's nose. Ether way I will always love the outfit designs of Batman 66' and Riddler's laugh from that show, but the 2022 Riddler is my favorite Riddler.

There are two animated Sequels to Adam West's Batman movie. One brings back Julie Newmar as Catwoman, Return of the Caped Crusader. The second animated movie has William Shatner as Harvey Dent/ Two Face
8:01 Bane and only Bane should have been in control of what was left the League of Shadows trying to destroy Gotham where Ra's failed.
The problem with Bane is that they made him so powerful, they were forced to include a Talia al Ghul revenge plot, otherwise he most likely would have killed Batman in that movie

Great ranking, Cody. I was surprised to see Arnold Schwarzenegger's Mr. Freeze so high up, but I can kind of understand where you're coming from. At the very least, I would still take him over Jesee Eisenberg's Lex Luthor.
Much like yourself, Cody, it took me awhile to understand the appeal of The Penguin, but if you dig deeply enough, there actually are some really good comics that feature him. "Pain and Prejudice" by Gregg Hurwitz and Szymon Kudranski in particular is a masterpiece and one of the best examinations of a villain that I've ever read. I highly recommend checking that out.
And yes, as cliché and predictable as it might be, Heath Ledger's Joker truly is the best onscreen Batman villain that we have ever gotten. Not only is he an excellent, interesting interpretation of the classic comic character, but he also stands as one of the all time great villains of cinema. Even with all of the great adaptations we have gotten of Batman villains over the years, I doubt Ledger will ever be surpassed.

Neeson did well with a more realistic version where "Ra's Al Ghul" is just a title for the League of Shadows leader and as long as there''s always someone following the League's philosophy of destroying places they deem too corrupt to warn the world to shape up the persona will be immortal in a sense but there should be a Ra's that's literally immortal next not just metaphorically.
If you havent seen it, I think you should check out the gotham t.v series, pretty sure you'll like it, Jim Gordon focused series but gives a take on how most of the character, villains/others got they're start, show is on netflix

From your videos I get the sense you haven't seen the Gotham TV series? For all its flaws and a weak 1st and last season it's still a blast and has some of my favourite interpretations of Batman villains including my favourite Joker. Cameron Monaghan is so underrated as that character and I wish they could've brought him back for this new interpretation
I plan on making one of these videos too, but I'm still in the watching Batman content for research phase. I will say 89 and 08 joker are probably going to be in my top three.

Do you count the businessmen like Daggett from The Dark Knight Rises and Max Schreck from Batman Returns as villains? Reason I ask is they're not in the traditional rogue's gallery.
Cody might be too young but Eric Roberts was a beast back then. Julia was HIS sister at the time Satisfaction came out. Not now of course

Ain’t it crazy how John T kinda started out doing comedy with Adam Sandler then Transformers and now he’s doing these roles .
