I went to a Petco in Brooklyn and they were torturing hermit crabs. No humidity for them, just dry air and sand and strong lights. I explained what hermit crabs need, moist air so they can breathe through their modified gills and weeks later I returned to the same thing.

The day i gave my hermit crabs a "proper" setup, they died instantly. They'd been perfectly active and healthy acting in their former setup.

I used to have two society finches that had the reigns of the house. They slept and bred in a cereal bowl that had all the nesting materials they wanted. The bowl was high-up near the ceiling so they'd feel safe. My finches loved to take baths every day in the kitchen sink. They sang and had wonderful personalities. They loved eating fresh cat grass I'd buy at Petco to offer them. They'd use their bird cage to eat seed and everything else and to drink. They were happy birds. I learned quickly to always hang something in the windows so the young ones, on their maiden flights, wouldn't fly straight into the glass!
The little yellow canary at the bottom of the tank might be high on seed...

I did not know finches need super clean water! I feed and water wild house finches and I live in a very hot climate (southern US) so the temperatures have been over 100 degrees for the past few weeks. Often, it's 110 degrees outside, and the poor little birds have their beaks open to vent out the heat. I feel bad for them, and I gave them a big water pan which they love! I clean it out and change the water 2-3 times a day because I know bacteria can flourish in warm conditions. Glad to know I'm not just being paranoid. They do need very fresh water! I put the water in a large shallow glass dish that I'd use for baking if I didn't give it to the birds. It is very clean! I would never want to cause harm to my wild finches, because I love them so much. They made a home out of a bush that's right outside my bedroom window. One day I heard tapping and scratching on my window, which terrified me as I thought someone was looking in at me while I was sleeping! Turns out, it was the finches trying to get into my house because it's so hot, and they could feel the cool air through the window because it's badly sealed. They're so cute to watch, and I sit in bed and look at them pressed up against the glass, staring at me inquisitively. I imagine they're saying ''Give me seeds! Give me water! Give me air conditioning!" I put a bowl with distilled water and another with all their favorite foods in the bush, so now I watch them eat and drink right from the comfort of my own bed! They're so sweet and funny to watch. I feel bad for them because it's so hot, and I hope they're ok. Gonna keep making sure they have clean food and water multiple times a day! Finches are awesome! :)

We bought our daughter 2 gouldian finches from Petco two days ago and discover one has air sac mites but my daughter is so attached she doesn't want to return it so now I have take it to bird vet to try and treat it. Can't imagine how they can sell sick birds. It was all fluffed up from day 1 which I found out from simple google search is a sign of illness. I don't know if treatment will help it but this has been a very upsetting experience and not what we hoped for our daughters first birds.

i used to buy birds from petsmart. but now i buy from a guy.(budgies in the petstore are like 20 something dollars. but he only sells for 10
I noticed that you've got a mix in the glass tank..do society, canary, & gouldian coexist, or was this for out & about time/ free air time?
-my two concerns about getting bird(s) is : air quality (I cook, and use a few essential oils lightly) and as well, the potential for competition in small groups of birds.
Bird breeder here, birds often get along just fine, particularly in even numbers however they shouldn't be kept in the same cage necessarily. Broody and nesting females will become quite territorial with or without eggs. As for the air quality, the essential oils is a particular problem as most of those oils are particularly toxic. They have very sensitive respiratory systems. Provided you don't use non-stick pans the cooking should be fine as long as you keep them out of the kitchen with open hot pans.

the problem is you guys dont sell hand tamed finches and i read if they were tamed by their parents you shouldnt try to tame them. so i have to completly wild finches that came from a HORRIBLE breeder😐 you guys take horrible care of your animals and i hope they shut down petcos!!

I love finches. I don't own one. I'm scared I won't be able to train it. It seems like the small birds at the store are afraid of people. I want to get a small bird like a budgie, or a finch, or a canary, I just don't know if it will show love like the bigger birds do.
