Actually, he didn't. He did, however, call David to congratulate him after the Conan O'Brien live performance. To this day, this is the ONLY cover of The Sound of Sllence Paul Simon has acknowledged in any way. He famously hates covers of this song, except this one. I didn't know that about him being a cantor. Can you imagine being someone who goes to that synagogue? That's so cool.
I love the fact that you listened to the entire song without stopping in the middle of the video to make comments about it. I wish more people doing reactions would do that.
If you understand that Simon and Garfunkel wrote this song at a time when the tv was taking over the home. People no longer talked at the dinner table, they watched tv while they ate and the tv was becoming the electric baby sitter. They were warning us not to ignore each other. Disturbed is the reality we have today. People talking without speaking...they text. Hearing without listening...they read what others write on their phones. No one wants to disturb the sound of silence by actually interacting with another person. And the neon god we made? The Smart phone. A whole generation has lost the art of being social with each other and that is the fulfillment of Simon and Garfunkel's warning and the rage for this loss is Disturb's version.
@sam-zm5zw Uh what now? First am not really a Disturbed fan nor am I interested in catering to them, and second where did I say I thought this was better than the original? S&G's original is a timeless classic that will be forever etched in my soul, but Draiman did an outstanding job in reinterpreting it, and there's no questioning the power of his voice. Both are memorable recordings, period. Maybe read a comment next without the knee-jerk urge to tear it up. You will be so much more at peace.
Kudos for not having a preview, for not stopping the video and for not talking over the video while it was playing. That's the way to do a reaction video. I was already familiar with Disturbed's version (and of course, Simon and Garfunkel's version) but I really enjoyed going on the journey of discovery with you.
David Draiman, the singer, was vocally trained to be a cantor in the Jewish faith. I have been waiting for you to get to this one and I'm so glad you chose the official video. The imagery adds so much to their interpretation of this classic song.
I'm glad that you heard the Simon & Garfunkel version first and then Disturbed's. Disturbed is conveying the frustration almost 60 years later that we have not listened to what Simon & Garfunkel said originally. That's why the power, the anger and the video is so appropriate and so good. I get chills when I hear both versions.
The Simon & Garfunkle one is nice and folksy, look at the times they were in. Now look at the times WE'RE in. They're the same words, but Disturbed put urgency into it, the plea and warning expressed much stronger...idk how a person could listen to this and not get the message.
Disturbed the main guy did a interview and talked about how this song was so difficult to do a cover of and how much time they put in to it and that it was just insane the amounts of work just to give the song the justices it deserved .......and no disturbed is a huge well known band in smash rock or punk or head banger stuff or what ever they call it today ....and have many fantastic songs all there own and this cover was kind of a one off and really connected the bad to allot of people that well generally do not listened to there kind of everyday music ..but in there world they are one of the top $ bringers
My following comments are from watching the original B&W 4K Cover video: OMG, the tissues I've 🤧 gone through since I discovered David Draiman and Disturbed performing their rendition of "The Sound of Silence" on April 29, 2024. That day I have to believe my spirit 🙏 guides (out of the blue) first led me to a cover video by Dan Vasc singing "Amazing Grace" which was phenomenal 👏 and then to the cover video of Disturbed and David Draiman singing this most POWERFUL, EMOTIONAL 😂rendition of Simon and Garfunkels "The Sound of Silence". NOTE: For those interested, here's some history on Paul Simon, who wrote the song in 1964. Watch their video from back then. It's a whole different vibes. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sound_of_Silence I'm 75 and was 15 when they released one of the most popular, iconic classical songs of our time during the 60's. It's amazing how relevant it is today. Actually, I feel it is even more relevant now more than ever, by how we're so attached to our electronics and don't actually share our thoughts and feelings with each other. Because of that, it actually becomes more difficult to do so. We are losing our ability to really be able to communicate with each other. No wonder we've become so divided. I've spent days listening and seeing the many Reactional channel hosts and each of your reactions and hearing all of your comments, which I have thoroughly enjoyed. I still 😢 almost every time I watch and listen to it. I've also noticed that more males have shown more emotion and gotten teary-eyed than the females, just an observation. Thanks, from Diane😊❤
david draiman, no one hearing past albums for Disturbed would never think he had this kind of vocal range. His more "dramatic" rendition of this song seems more fitting than the original.
I just took my 10 year old nephew to see them in Biloxi MS 2/24/24! He has been a fan since he was 3 and Sound of Silence his FAVORITE SONG EVER! Watching his reaction to seeing it live was a priceless memory!!❤❤❤ they are INCREDIBLE
Best song. Best version. Best video. Song of the century. You can't not weep for the despair and the hope this evokes. Watch and listen. All the pain is there but so is the way to fix societies problems...
I grew up hearing the Simon and Garfunkel version -- one of my favorite songs ever -- but Disturbed took this song to a new -- and BETTER -- level! David Craiman's vocals (hope I spelled that right) gave a gravitas and darkness to the song's lyrics that S&G's version lacked. Could listen/watch this Disturbed's video over and over again (and I have!!)!
AWESOME REACTION VIDEO!!!....I love that you let the song play and let us watch your reaction, then you discussed it and gave your opinion afterwards. I hate when someone makes a reaction video and stops the song every few seconds to "explain" it, its called a reaction video for a reason, and you did it perfectly! You have a new follower 😁
Crazy the first song I ever heard from Disturbed was a cover of a Phil Collins song from the’80s called Land of Confusion so I really shouldn’t have been surprised by this cover but man what a cover!$
Hi Saskatchewan Canada 🇨🇦 here, I rember my young days, im 65 now but I was young,😊.Paul Simon wrote this song in the darkness of his bathroom, 1963, its got angry from Kennedy assassination, from seeing Americans alienating themselves from reality, sorta foreseeable future of America, it probably hit him hard we all have these moments, his feelings at the time when America was crying, , could be a warning some say, or a prophecy of things to come, no one really knows whats in a mans head but thats about it.very powerful song.wise song.ok be safe 😊.
Most times there's nothing like the original, but this version of Sound Of Silence is one of the rare occasions that the cover is far better than the original.
Disturbed likes to mix a cover or two into most of their albums. Lead singer David Draiman has a fantastic voice in general, but especially for metal. This is one is the best covers I’ve heard, but they have some other kick ass ones.
Anytime a cover is better than the original it's an achievement, and if there's one better than this, I can't think of it. I once heard someone say that the original was a gentle warning of things to come and this is the rage that the warning wasn't heeded.
Dan also has his own band called " Fearless". I believe he has one of the BEST Metal scream. Dan got the harmonica from his dad 2 wks before he died, he released this video 3 days after his dad died. R.I.P
This is my first view of one of your reactions, so I don't know if this is how all your reactions are done but I absolutely loved it. You don't pause and interrupt with a lot of talking but sum it up so well at the end. During the clip your facial expressions tell everything which had a bigger impact for me then someone stopping the clip and voicing their opinion.
Disturbed -The Sound of Silence video has over 1 BILLION views in 8 YEARS. 1 Billion seconds is equal to 33 years. This means, that more than three almost four people, had to click play, every second of every day for 8 years. WOW!!!
Also, whether or not you believe in spirit guides, I recently discovered that I am blessed to have some and decided to start listening to them. They actually led me to Disturbed and David Draiman on TH-cam and their cover B&W 4K video of Simon and Garfunkels The Sound of Silence. My spirit guides are screaming at me to tell all of you that if we lose our Democracy we will lose our freedom to listen to the music of our choice like Disturbed! If THEY can ban our books, they can ban/outlaw our music 🎶! Love you all, Diane ❤
Disturbed is not a cover band at all. They are a hard rock band for the most part; and amazing at that. This was a complete departure from their normal fare but also a showcase for David Dramon's voice and the band's versatitlity. I love seeing reactions to this song in particular because it's an old 70s song and noone expects a hard rock band like Disturbed to tackle it. Moreover, they don't expect this cover to be better than the original (which IMHO) it is; or maybe I should say updated or more relevant. The lyrics and sentiment certainly transcend the decades since the original song was written and still apply today.
Be sure to watch their live performance on Conan. NOTE: David Draiman was really sick for the Conan live performance, and I heard he was not pleased with his performance. Being the perfectionist that he is, I can understand why he felt that way. However, the production as a whole performance was amazing, and his was EXCEPTIONAL! I loved it. So POWERFUL and EMOTIONAL! - Disturbed "The Sound Of Silence" 03/28/16 | CONAN on TBS Tbyeam Coco
paul simon said that this is now a disturbed song. no higher praise. and the singer for disturbed has been a cantor in his synagogue.. so yeah, chops.
Actually, he didn't. He did, however, call David to congratulate him after the Conan O'Brien live performance. To this day, this is the ONLY cover of The Sound of Sllence Paul Simon has acknowledged in any way. He famously hates covers of this song, except this one.

I love the fact that you listened to the entire song without stopping in the middle of the video to make comments about it. I wish more people doing reactions would do that.
Nobody keeps that up because they get copyright claimed.
I like that too, just watch it with reactions, and then watch it again breaking it down.
@@Unacknowledged86 yup, plus some people complain about it.
So do I. I stop watching their videos.
I hate when they stop and talk. I think they loose something with the build up. Glad you didn't do that. Loved your reaction.
The original was a gentle warning. This one is an epic Jeremiad, calling down doom due to our failure to heed the earlier warning.
Jeremiad Awesome. Had to look it up. I got a new word today. Thanks
Amen. Thank you for that.

Beautiful!!
I am 68 yrs old and this is the absolute Best version of this song I have ever heard!
Check out the version of them singing this song on Conan O'Brian. Even better in my opinion.
Right there with you 😊
I'm 67, and I agree.
I agree with you 💯 buddy
I'm 73 and it's knocked my socks off, who hurt this guy, God he can sing🇦🇺
Greatest cover ever. Votings over, everybody go home.
Agreed!!!!

@sam-zm5zwI guess reading comprehension was never your strong suit. @RicoCosta317 NEVER said anything about this cover being better than the original.
Hearts cover of Stairway To Heavennis right there
@@laurenpeck3609 Hell yeah. Epic!

Also the lead singer was a Marine. He's also putting in his emotions of what he has experienced. 🫡
Very well said. I agree
So happy to have found someone who actually LISTENS first and then comments❤
This is one of the BEST cover song that was ever done. YOU CAN FEEL THIS SONG.
I love this version of this song, so meaningful 😢
Best version ever! He was trained as cantor. He has perfect pitch!
Disturbed puts the heart and soul into it. Gives me chills every time !
Loveeee this from Disturbed. The song has so much more impact imo. The voice is unbelievable crisp scream. ❤❤❤
Thank you! Playing the entire video before the critique is appreciated.
David is so much more than just metal. Epic voice.
Thank you so much for not interrupting the video. You the man. Peace ☮ ❤
If not already mentioned, check out Disturbed’s cover of Sound of Silence live on Conan. Equally powerful yet a stand alone performance. Incredible!!
Thank you for listening to the whole song then commenting
This amazing ballad from a heavy metal band!❤
This is such a powerful song, thank you for not interrupting the video to make a comment.
This is happening on our planet now. We will come together to overcome.
Very powerful
Peace🌎💕✨️
It is intense! Man has a great voice!
Such a stunning cover of an amazing classic, best one yet, in my opinion. David's vocals always impresses. Thanx so much, Peace
By far the best screamo voice ever ❤
This was the best cover, as you stated. This has broke ground as it does give a different message with the same lyrics. Well done.
I love your face responding to this wonderful cover. It’s masterful.
Thank you for not interrupting the music, appreciated it!
🙏🏽❤️🙏🏼Best cover song EVER!
This cover is epic and David's voice touches me and the song is so in tuned to what is happening in our world today
It’s hard not to like this better than the original. From a 64 year old
You have the best smile ever! Keep using it.
I have now listened to the Disturbed versions many times - I cant help it I just have to see the facial expressions of the listeners 😂😂😂
Have heard this version 20 times or more. I still get goosebumps

Your reaction and analysis at the end was spot on! Great song, great lyrics, both the original and the cover

Disturbed is not even close to being a cover band. They usually do 1 cover per album. They have 20 years of original music.
28 years, 1996.

Great reaction. No interruptions. Good insight.
TY for NOT stopping and starting the video and saving your comments till the end. Next, you need to react to Pentatonix version of this song.😁
Great interpretation JMBOY
