He was classically trained as a Cantor. And don't feel bad for getting emotional. Just about everybody I've seen lines up crying like babies over this. It's very very deep emotion. Right to the soul.

@@PadreMortalis correct, but the neon gods are way more relevant today than in any part of history. Everyone has a neon God in their hand they bow snd pray to everyday without so much as even acknowledging the person next to them. Sad and troubled times.
This is the most powerful song I have ever heard! I reacted the same way you did, it hits you right in the gut doesn’t it? It still gives me the chills every time I hear it now. I remember the original and it was great but this one? This one is so far above great it’s in the stratosphere! Just WOW! David Draiman has the most amazing voice I have heard in all the years I have been listening to music!
👍 this had me in tears the first time I heard it and still gets me now, so powerful! I heard the original when it was released and thought it was great, but this ..... it’s in a different world.
The best I can describe the rolling emotion of sadness, anger, and undercurrent feeling of loss, is ... "WHAT HAVE YOU DONE". We ignored S&G's warning... now we have Disturbed saying "we're too late"... They did end the video with a slice of hope, though. Choosing not to end on that sad lone piano piece, but giving a short fanfare. And the imagery... as if saying, "We can recover. We can turn back the damage. Let's do this, together. Please." Awesome reaction, good sir! Never apologize for showing emotion, for that is what make us human.
The coupling of a voice that powerful, with lyrics just as powerful, but presented in a whole new arrangement, ever increasing in tone and intensity... magic. Simply magic. There just are no other words for it.
Don’t feel bad. I cried like a baby. This song is amazing to begin with. Spiritual. Disturbed version is a cry. This song is a warning. David made it ominous and imminent.
This song today can mean the idolatry of the internet. Phones, iPad, computers. Texting=talking without speaking Hearing voices unable to comprehend any ideas that are different than yours. So deep when it came out even more so now. So glad that that this version is available to the world today. Love it.
He conveyed such emotion with this song with this vocal ability that it's hard not to shed a tear. What an amazing performance. It's not often that someone performs a song in such a way that to illicit that type of emotional response that this song does.
It's definitely his version of the song that brings tears and goosebumps! The lyrics are dark and Simon and Garfunkel sang it like a r folk song when it was released in 1963. This version is like a warning that you must listen to! His control of the lyrics from the beginning and building as the song continues is amazing! You feel every word! And the lyrics are as relevant today as when they were written. Love it!
Interestingly enough, this song covered by Disturbed touches young people in a profound way. They don’t know Simon and Garfunkel, but they totally get the lyrics of this song, probably because Draiman stabs your soul and totally inhabits the meaning. They cry the first time they hear it and become obsessed with it. Disturbed’s fans get to know S&G and folks who would never listen to metal get to hear and understand what really is behind Disturbed’s message over the years, (although they seem to have a bit more of a hopeful message any more). They don’t lose their edge, but this song takes on a totally different message when someone like Draiman, a very well educated guy in his mid 40’s with a family sings it. People who knew the S&G original finally hear the lyrics from a soul level instead of a sad level, you know? I’m glad you get it.
I was young with S&G and have always like the song, but when I heard Disturbed's poignant version I suddenly heard the words... It gives me goosebumps and makes me tear up everytime I hear it!
This was the epitome of perfection between voice and visual. The facial close ups and the intensity of his voice when he adds the vocal fry pushed me over the edge too. I'm a GenXer and the disconnection of people today is a direct result of the boob tube and now portable devices. We built mud dams, played kick ball, ran the neighborhood until the street lights came on and drank from the hose. This song is even more relevant today than when S&G sang it. Disturbed really drove home the message vocally and visually!
Everyone that sees David's rendition of "Sound of Silence" should have two reactions: the fantastic video AND the singing. In every reaction I've seen, the viewers are blown away. I've been a fan of Disturbed for years; you see why.
I’m never going to be big on metal, but this version not only respect that this singer’s chops but showed what the roars can do when done RIGHT. This isn’t about sounding beastly, this is about sheer rage and agony.
I remember this song growing up. It meant something back then. Now that Disturbed rekindled this tune, I hope the younger generations listen to this closely. It was a warming back then. This version is a call to arms. We all need to change the world to get back in touch with it and others that live here with us.
A battle cry? Too who? People hear the song without listening. Nothing changed when the original came out and nothing changed when the cover came out. They made a meme out of the song for crying out loud. This comment is also on every single reaction video of this song, it's getting old. Let me know when you see the troops getting ready for this battle you speak of because as of yet they don't seem to give a shit. Great song none the less though. Cheers!
@@kosys5338 I have to agree, I cringe every time I see this garbage at the top of the comments. It's a fake quote people say to make themselves look insightful when it's nothing but noise.

David Draiman...a voice to die for! A powerful yet soulful voice that can go from warm baritone to angelic tenor, from clear as a crystal to rasp/distortion and back on a dime. He has a timbre in his voice that I've never heard before.....just hauntingly beautiful and pure tonal properties to it! An awesome talent and obvious training to deliver what he does!! Can sing like an angel or the devil ! Loved your reaction and your take on David's performance. Was mine too! Try "Deceiver", "The Night", "Indestructible" and "Violence Fetish" by Disturbed too.
There's a reason this video has over half a billion views. This is our world today, more and more every year. The live version from the Conan show is different but at least as powerful.
I prefer the Conan version over the studio version we see here. The interesting part of the Conan performance is Draiman was not 100% that evening, he actually had a cold I've heard. Incredible performance.
@@deco9863 As I understand it, he was recovering from the Flu at that time, and the reason he was sitting down during the performance was because he wasn't sure if he'd be able to stand and sing properly for the whole song. It is legitimately incredible that he was able to do what he did that day.
Don't get emotional over very many songs but not even going to lie this one has gotten me to tear up a few times. As a reactor it's something you shouldn't be ashamed of showing. People want to see the emotions that you feel. Not just see you bob your head to a song and sign off. Appreciate the reaction. God bless, keep your head down, and stay safe.
I was 18 when I first heard the original by Simon and Garfunkel and it's hauntingly beautiful message stayed with me, a year ago I heard this cover by Disturbed and David Draiman's voice gave me chills and I too wept at his incredible empathic rendition, it speaks to your soul.
I have watched this reaction two times. I watched a number of reactions to this song - this version of the song - and your reaction is my unquestionable favourite. Like me you know the original song by heart and if not having that with you when listening to this version, you can't really understand the greatness in this version, the depth Disturbed gives to an already deep song. In general I'm quite shocked that most reactions to this song, are made by people never heard of the original song, not recognizing it - WHAT?!?!? If you are the slightest interested in music, doesn't matter what kind of music you're into, how can you not be familiar with this song?! Thanks for a great reaction video
Don't apologize for having a genuine emotional reaction to a song that is trying to garner just that. I have not gotten through their cover of that song once without crying yet.
I have so many things to say about your reaction. Firstly it was perfect. It hit you the same way it hit this 56 year old Canadian woman. And I've watched reactions to this song all weekend and cry every time. And we got PBS in Vancouver, BC Canada! I had never heard of Disturbed before this but well aware of Simon & Garfunkle. It is the power of David's voice and the passion that he seems to be conveying. They made this song so incredibly relevant when they first did this. But now in August 2020 it seems even more relevant. I applaud you for being vulnerable and honest with your reaction. I feel like David is a real man for singing this and you are a real man for feeling this. God bless you.
This song is powerful. I feel Disturbed made it that more powerful. They made it to reach their own audience and in doing so, sent a message to them too. Never be sorry for crying. I get emotional everytime I hear this song and I'm a Disturbed fan. Thank you for playing this
Me neither. But I gotta admit, the first time I watched it I shed a tear as well. For it wasn't just a performance you listen to, it was one you felt. Peace brother✌
Don't apologize for having emotions,I think I've watched this song over 2 dozen times already and it still brings me to tears, the message it has,the musical arrangement and his voice, absolutely outstanding version of this song.chilling.
Great reaction. This version humbles us all and hits us right in the feels. He just sings it in a way that forces you to listen to the meaning on a new level.
This is a masterwork. The clarity of every syllable as his voice growls and soars. The background starting out spare and crescendoing with the emotion of the words. This song is a gutpunch in the best way!
David Draiman was born in Brooklyn to an orthodox Jewish family. He hails from a long line of noted temple cantors. He attended Yeshiva and was expected to sing in temple too. Well... he went in a different direction and much of his family disowned him. His later songs are so powerful.... Hold on to Memories; Inside the Fire; The Light... Incredibly inspirational. Give them another try... you might be pleasantly surprise. His vocal training was primarily to prepare him to cantor.
check out David's interview on Loudwire here on youtube. He said he went to college for business and went into the family business (nursing home/transitional living) at no time does he mention his vocal training.
David took lessons to be able to do the voice distortion, growl, so he wouldn’t shred his vocal cords. He is also a Cantor in the same Jewish Synagogue as his father.
Yeah, I'm with the folks who say "don't worry about actually being moved to tears by music" it actually makes your own video more powerful because it was honest, and how many of us feel as well.. The folks who don't get it, just don't get it. Ignore them, and maybe hope they will find something that will truly touch them some day. I don't envy them. This song has yet to fail to touch anyone I've played it for. There is such power in it.. Thank you for your video..
Back around 1963, Paul Simon had a dream, and when he awoke, had to write a song based on what he saw. The song turned into "The Sound of Silence", and is maybe one of the most recognizable and known folk songs ever made. But it was a folk song, and the emotion of HOW it was sung did not correctly convey the dire warning of the dream he had, I believed, received from God. So the song was made, and remained as it was, until the band Disturbed decided to cover it in their own way. For those who do not know who Disturbed is, they formed in the 90's and are known as a "growly, metal" band. But then they covered "The Sound of Silence", and blew everyone's mind with the singer's vocal range and depth of emotion. In short, they did the song the way, I believe, God wanted it done. This is my comment on the song on various youtube videos concerning vocal coach and others' reactions: "Disturbed's version of this song is so strong... so imminent and fraught with warning... so dire for action and yet so sad and what could be with failure to heed the warnings... S&G's original was almost like "reading" a history book and the emotion conveyed was "Oh well...". Yes. As a gen X guy, and a Marine of the 90's, THIS is the version I feel in my soul. THIS is the version it always should have been." I feel that the warning given to Paul Simon 60 years ago was meant to be heard now, at this time, and I felt this VERY personally when I first heard it. The lyrics were "from me". The lyrics were EXACTLY what I was going through, and have been going through, ever since. Hello darkness, my old friend I've come to talk with you again (I've always felt alone, in darkness, being shunned and scorned by those I tell of things to come) Because a vision softly creeping Left its seeds while I was sleeping And the vision that was planted in my brain Still remains Within the sound of silence (I have been called a prophet or possible prophet for the last year now, and I've summarily rejected this. I don't know what a "prophet" is as it pertains to me, but I do know that I have discernment. I can see what is in front of me. And I reckon I've been called to tell others of what I see. I don't know...) In restless dreams I walked alone Narrow streets of cobblestone 'Neath the halo of a street lamp I turned my collar to the cold and damp When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light That split the night And touched the sound of silence (I have seen what is coming; HAS been coming for 14 years. But again, I walked alone. I saw alone, at least concerning those I knew. That "neon light that stabbed my eyes"... it "touched the sound of silence" of those around me who were willingly blind and deaf to what I saw) And in the naked light, I saw Ten thousand people, maybe more People talking without speaking People hearing without listening ("People talking without speaking, people hearing without listening"... Those who chose to be absorbed in their phones, their social media, their own comfortable thoughts that everything was good and would be forever... So sadly wrong...) People writing songs that voices never share And no one dared Disturb the sound of silence (No one dared disturb the sound of mass capitulation and compliance, that the "group think" that had been forced upon them, that they had learned was the only way to exist, was correct, and the penalty for disturbing that sound of sheepdom was to be eaten by the wolves... which was a lie. An opposite. The wolves were, in fact, herding the sheep for an easier slaughter.) "Fools", said I, "You do not know Silence like a cancer grows (Me screaming at the blank faces of those I had sworn a Sacred Oath to protect, to wake them from this perilous dream they had self-induced, to WAKE THEM UP and make them see. And they chose their comfortable cognitive dissonance over life-saving truth) Hear my words that I might teach you Take my arms that I might reach you" ("Take my arms that I might reach you" hits me so hard... I come with love and knowledge... just take my "arms" and allow me to help...) But my words, like silent raindrops fell And echoed In the wells of silence (And they just vaguely smile, or comfortably smirk, and turn away... back to the comfort of silence...) And the people bowed and prayed To the neon god they made And the sign flashed out its warning In the words that it was forming And the sign said, "The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls And tenement halls" And whispered in the sound of silence (And then, after all the ignored warnings, they turned to the gods of culture, who seduced them with self love; with self-absorption; with love of the worldly. Even after the prophets of their world SCREAM for them to hear... they are just unheard words in their world of silence...)
I was crying with you and I have watched that video many, many times over. This, to me , speaks to the heart of Humanity. This world would change if people simply stopped living imprisoned in their minds , went to a quiet room daily without technology, closed their eyes and simply listened to the sounds around them rather than the chattering of the so called MIND. No thoughts, just stillness. See no evil, hear no evil ( negative /self deprecating thoughts in the head literally) , speak no evil . This is a discipline that is life saving as far as I’m concerned. Technology and the psychopaths behind it are gripping and manipulating what we call the Human mind now. Social Dilemma on Netflix proves it. We have been disconnected from our true heart’s voice. Sound crazy? We have been kept so distracted most never truly tapped into the greater potentials of Humanity within severely affecting the collective conscious/unconsciousness. Isn’t it obvious? This gentleman tapped into his true heart’s voice when he expressed this song his way....
I listen to this almost every day, and still get goosebumps, chills and/or tears every time - It's That Good. Maybe if we used music like this as our drug, we might be a better society...
For me this version of the song is perfect. Combining soulful and meaningful lyrics with a voice that radiates power and authority. The S&G original was a great song, but David's voice empowers it to really punch across the message. I still listen to Disturbed's version every now and again, and of course to see how other people react to it.
It meant disconnect back when Simon and Garfunkel recorded it people not communicating and talking with each other and it applies to today as well… Some people can’t go in our without the damn cell phones… Again disconnect no communication or communicating without speaking shooting somebody a text message you contacted them you didn’t have to say a damn word.. it’s like this mindless thing that everyone just is glued to and stares at like growing up the TV or the idiot box as my mom used to call it… This is what Garfunkel thought of it/explained some of it... According to Art Garfunkel, it's about “the inability of people to communicate with each other.” · Paul Simon wrote the song in 1963-64, when he was ...
Okay so let me break this down. 1. Disturbed was not the original creators of this song so the original meaning and interpretation still stands. 2. Simon and Garfunkel WERE referencing the television in the original song. 3. At no point was social media in the conversation because the internet and social media did not exist when this song was originally written.

Best reaction so far to this, and believe me I have watched at least 200 of them. Thank you so much for sharing your emotion with us, it personally touched me deeply. I was a child of the '60s and the song meant a lot to me then, but so much more now. Like you I felt that David was made to sing this song.
David said in an interview that when he first heard it played back to him After he recorded it that he cried. I sat and bawled the first time I heard this.
S&G's version was the warning. This was the raging cry of regret, the sorrow, the sadness, the grief, the loss. David and the guys truly put so much emotion into the video and whoever designed and directed the video did a phenomenal job.
Simon and Garfunkle's was light and poetic, fretting of a growing distance between. It was different times. For these days, Draiman delivers the Final Warning. Iron fist in a very refined and meticulous velvet glove. A rounded softhanded beauty luring you into the song, and then he confronts you with stunning and searing power. Time is just about up folks. Disturbed says so... and said it well.
The original Simon and Garfunkel song gave us a warning of the future of man. The Disturbed cover makes us face our failures the correct our mistakes. It has been a total failure to do so. I listen to this constantly and it brings my life into focus. This is one of those songs that I hate to listen to, but I have to. It has such meaning to me, I can't help myself. You chose the best version, not the one from a tv show. This truely has much more impact.
I love to see people react and understand the song so deeply. I cried too. so much EMOTION in this version. It's like Simon and Garfunkel put out the warning and David is singing now about being upset hurt and almost mad that it wasn't heeded. I love this version. The darkness or sadness just puts that emphasis on the lyrics.
I loved the pure emotion and impact the song had on you. It reached right into your soul and just laid it out for the world to see . That’s the absolute genius of David Draiman’s voice and of the arrangement of this song !
Good and honest reaction. Very appreciated. This marked a turning point in Disturbed leading to a much wider variety of musical range that led to their album "Evolution" Which is my favorite by far with a lot of variety showcasing their talents. I would also suggest "The Light" by them as another excellent video of theirs to react to, If you haven't yet seen it.. Thanks again.

Loved your reaction to this rendition. I was a child when this S&G released it and I’ve loved it ever since but, it wasn’t until I first heard Disturbed’s arrangement that I actually understood what it’s all about. It reduces me to tears every time I hear it - it just doesn’t get old. Thanks for picking it up
I grew up on Simon & Garfunkel's version of this song, & there has been a few singers & bands that have done this cover, yet nobody has done it better then Disturbs version.......I may also venture to say, I enjoy this version better, only because the message that Simon & Garfunkel were trying to get across, is much stronger and clearer in this version! The original by Simon & Garfunkel, was a warning of what was to come, if we did not change our ways, & Disturbed's version, is anger, because we did not heed the warning....... ❤One of the best covers in my opinion ❤️

Best comment I’ve seen...and I’ve watched many reactions to this version
Never feel ashamed for having emotions. We are, after all, human.
@@AlphaandOmegaReactions Why hate? Music is beautiful and this is a masterpiece. It's your opinion on a awesome video with such a deep meening. If people don't like it, they better scroll on. "..People bowed and prayed to the neon (lcd) god thay make" :P
Never apologize for showing emotion. I'm 67 and cry every time I hear this. If it doesn't touch your soul...you don't get it. God bless.
Now you see why we didn’t want you to talk. We wanted you to take it all in. You got it! It’s beautiful.
It’s amazing how many people don’t understand how ahead of its time this song was and still is to this day. Truly telling the story of our modern times. Harrowing Beauty.
I don't think it was ahead of it's time. It feels like it's timeless. We battle with this message through time.
@@PadreMortalis correct, but the neon gods are way more relevant today than in any part of history. Everyone has a neon God in their hand they bow snd pray to everyday without so much as even acknowledging the person next to them. Sad and troubled times.
Telling the story of our inevitable demise more like.
I AGREE!
Please."
Awesome reaction, good sir! Never apologize for showing emotion, for that is what make us human.
I disagree! Disturbed says "let's do this!" This is the anthem for the revolution!
Imagine for a moment having a voice that powerful......
Kinda like Prayer. A whole new level
Bro, I'd never shut up
The coupling of a voice that powerful, with lyrics just as powerful, but presented in a whole new arrangement, ever increasing in tone and intensity... magic. Simply magic. There just are no other words for it.
Uh... I Do And I'm a Female.
@@rbishop proof?
Don’t feel bad. I cried like a baby. This song is amazing to begin with. Spiritual. Disturbed version is a cry. This song is a warning. David made it ominous and imminent.
2 minute mark "Let's see what they got"
7 minute mark "Fuck me"
HAHA Great reaction video mate
Thank you sir! I always give my honest reaction to new music for me. Stay safe out there!
@@AlphaandOmegaReactions You're welcome. We're staying safe in here :) Australia is doing good!
he started with "Simon and Garfunkle are so great" and he ended with "who's Simon and Garfunkle?"
I'm right there with you. I cry every time.
Me to
This song today can mean the idolatry of the internet. Phones, iPad, computers.
Texting=talking without speaking
Hearing voices unable to comprehend any ideas that are different than yours. So deep when it came out even more so now. So glad that that this version is available to the world today. Love it.
I've watched heaps of reactions to this, and I've finally got the one it deserves, because you understand the song. Thank you for your moving honesty.
Thank you for the kind thoughts and words. Stay safe out there!
Love it!
The power of music. I never thought anyone could equal the haunting beauty of the original but this is stunning.
Well said!
I was young with S&G and have always like the song, but when I heard Disturbed's poignant version I suddenly heard the words... It gives me goosebumps and makes me tear up everytime I hear it!
Your stunned reaction is the finest compliment you could pay......
His voice is so powerful that it unconditionally makes people tear up without them even wanting to.
I remember this song growing up. It meant something back then. Now that Disturbed rekindled this tune, I hope the younger generations listen to this closely. It was a warming back then. This version is a call to arms. We all need to change the world to get back in touch with it and others that live here with us.
Absolutely a call to arms! I've been telling people it is the anthem for the revolution!
You cried for humanity. Beautiful. Words are awesome; his version is chilling.
The original was a warning. This was a battle cry because the warning wasn't heeded.
Was about to say the same lol
^ This. In spades.
Absolutely agree
A battle cry? Too who? People hear the song without listening. Nothing changed when the original came out and nothing changed when the cover came out. They made a meme out of the song for crying out loud. This comment is also on every single reaction video of this song, it's getting old. Let me know when you see the troops getting ready for this battle you speak of because as of yet they don't seem to give a shit. Great song none the less though. Cheers!
@@kosys5338 I have to agree, I cringe every time I see this garbage at the top of the comments. It's a fake quote people say to make themselves look insightful when it's nothing but noise.
My grandmother 99 hero loved disturbed when I played this song for her she held me like rocks said I know your choice of music and peeps don't understand they never will disturbed is perfection.. I played at her wake my fam was pissed I never win.. but she'll be with me forever ..
Loved your reaction mate, incredible version of an incredible song.
Paul Simon reached out to him to tell him how much he loved this cover. Paul Simon is notoriously gaurding of his songs.
If this version doesn't make you cry, you don't have a soul. Great reaction!
Conan version is awesome
Kinda a battle cry for all that are misunderstood so they stayed SILENT!!!!
Unfortunately the Conan version had one or more bits autotuned (against David's wishes I understand).
I cry every time bro. It’s powerful. MUSIC IS POWERFUL. What a hell of a performance
Music SHOULD evoke emotion...you are human. God bless!
That song is almost prophetic for this very day.. social media, TV. You are right on brother
I was 18 when I first heard the original by Simon and Garfunkel and it's hauntingly beautiful message stayed with me, a year ago I heard this cover by Disturbed and David Draiman's voice gave me chills and I too wept at his incredible empathic rendition, it speaks to your soul.
Oh wow you thought the same thing I thought!
Thank you for supporting me and for your understanding of the artistry behind this song.
Amazing, real reaction! Love this version of the song!
Everyone finds meaning in the song. David's voice is so incredible, it still makes me weep. Superb music deserves your tears.
I have loved this song from the moment I heard it but I always felt there was something missing. Now I know what it was. Righteous. Anger.
Great reaction. Very good. Tanks
This song is powerful. I feel Disturbed made it that more powerful. They made it to reach their own audience and in doing so, sent a message to them too.
Never be sorry for crying. I get emotional everytime I hear this song and I'm a Disturbed fan.
Thank you for playing this
I love people's reactions to this song. It gives me chills every single time.
The Master Piece Performance by David of this song was performed on the Conan Show.
You will be further amazed!
Thank you. Someone finally got it right. 😏
check out David's interview on Loudwire here on youtube. He said he went to college for business and went into the family business (nursing home/transitional living) at no time does he mention his vocal training.
His voice, his message, it goes directly to your soul.
David took lessons to be able to do the voice distortion, growl, so he wouldn’t shred his vocal cords. He is also a Cantor in the same Jewish Synagogue as his father.
"Took lessons..." He is classically trained so he'd be well aware of all types of voice manipulation.
Never apologize for feeling a song. David is an excellent story teller and he made you feel the song and listen not just hear.
This song will make most ppl cry. Its beautifully done
We had those same channels. same shows/results....I totally get you...no words needed!!!!
This is my comment on the song on various youtube videos concerning vocal coach and others' reactions:
"Disturbed's version of this song is so strong... so imminent and fraught with warning... so dire for action and yet so sad and what could be with failure to heed the warnings... S&G's original was almost like "reading" a history book and the emotion conveyed was "Oh well...". Yes. As a gen X guy, and a Marine of the 90's, THIS is the version I feel in my soul. THIS is the version it always should have been."
I feel that the warning given to Paul Simon 60 years ago was meant to be heard now, at this time, and I felt this VERY personally when I first heard it. The lyrics were "from me". The lyrics were EXACTLY what I was going through, and have been going through, ever since.
Hello darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
(I've always felt alone, in darkness, being shunned and scorned by those I tell of things to come)
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence
(I have been called a prophet or possible prophet for the last year now, and I've summarily rejected this. I don't know what a "prophet" is as it pertains to me, but I do know that I have discernment. I can see what is in front of me. And I reckon I've been called to tell others of what I see. I don't know...)
In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone
'Neath the halo of a street lamp
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence
(I have seen what is coming; HAS been coming for 14 years. But again, I walked alone. I saw alone, at least concerning those I knew. That "neon light that stabbed my eyes"... it "touched the sound of silence" of those around me who were willingly blind and deaf to what I saw)
And in the naked light, I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
("People talking without speaking, people hearing without listening"... Those who chose to be absorbed in their phones, their social media, their own comfortable thoughts that everything was good and would be forever... So sadly wrong...)
People writing songs that voices never share
And no one dared
Disturb the sound of silence
(No one dared disturb the sound of mass capitulation and compliance, that the "group think" that had been forced upon them, that they had learned was the only way to exist, was correct, and the penalty for disturbing that sound of sheepdom was to be eaten by the wolves... which was a lie. An opposite. The wolves were, in fact, herding the sheep for an easier slaughter.)
"Fools", said I, "You do not know
Silence like a cancer grows
(Me screaming at the blank faces of those I had sworn a Sacred Oath to protect, to wake them from this perilous dream they had self-induced, to WAKE THEM UP and make them see. And they chose their comfortable cognitive dissonance over life-saving truth)
Hear my words that I might teach you
Take my arms that I might reach you"
("Take my arms that I might reach you" hits me so hard... I come with love and knowledge... just take my "arms" and allow me to help...)
But my words, like silent raindrops fell
And echoed
In the wells of silence
(And they just vaguely smile, or comfortably smirk, and turn away... back to the comfort of silence...)
And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming
And the sign said, "The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls"
And whispered in the sound of silence
(And then, after all the ignored warnings, they turned to the gods of culture, who seduced them with self love; with self-absorption; with love of the worldly.
This gentleman tapped into his true heart’s voice when he expressed this song his way....
once you have heard this, you can never go back. It makes the original sound like a practice event.
Crying makes you human. Nothing to ever be ashamed of. Stirred emotions. Makes me cry everytime and I've heard it 1000 times.❤❤
I listen to this almost every day, and still get goosebumps, chills and/or tears every time - It's That Good. Maybe if we used music like this as our drug, we might be a better society...
He wasn't trained in Opera.
He trained as a Cantor at his Temple.
@Ryan 25
No, not "basically the same", which is why I pointed it out.
He is also classically trained.
It sounds like a lot of the warnings God himself is giving us and David is Jewish so how fitting is that
He studied being a Cantor in Jerusalem and NYC. He stepped away from it due to a couple of events in his life that made him question religion.
For me this version of the song is perfect. Combining soulful and meaningful lyrics with a voice that radiates power and authority. The S&G original was a great song, but David's voice empowers it to really punch across the message. I still listen to Disturbed's version every now and again, and of course to see how other people react to it.
You mentioned the neon god was television, now days it the damned smart phone.
Beyond smart phones, It's referencing social media as well I like to think.
People on smart phones lookin like they bow and pray.
Yes!!! Thank you!!!
So powerful...I grew up w/the original, but I must say I prefer this version. Thank you for the reaction.
Visceral!!! Best cover ever!!!! Good on u for giving it a chance...but I'm ur era...and I knew the Simon and Garfunkel song...it still brings me to tears ...this rendition... It's is absolutely the best reaction because u know the song!!!! U made me a fan of u with this!!
Oh boy, did you go in to this a bit sceptical, didn't you? 😂 loved that! I was like: man! can't wait until David starts the vocal fries....😁
I truly did, but this song won me over. Even made me a little emotional.
I have seen so many men react to this song and half of them are brought to tears. You are in good company.
S&G's version was the warning. This was the raging cry of regret, the sorrow, the sadness, the grief, the loss. David and the guys truly put so much emotion into the video and whoever designed and directed the video did a phenomenal job.
This is one of the best reactions I've seen! You can really tell your feeling every single note!
Agree on The Light. Got me through my husband’s death.
I've long been a fan of Disturbed, but when they released this, it was so powerful. They released it at a time when it needed to be heard. Don't you ever apologize for crying, my dude. This song is just beautiful.
Don't apologise dude. That's what we want to see. Your emotions are our emotions.
This artist reaches in and grabs your soul. I tear up every time I listen to this version. Goose bumps. Awe. Witnessing a grown man experience these same emotions, for me, reveals your humanity. Thank-you for sharing your experience with us.
Paul Simon even likes this and endorses it himself.
He was a Jewish chanter as a kid. This was the first time he had sung clean over that range for years, but it shows that his metal singing training can be translated into this. He obviously killed it !
He's voice gives the true meaning to the song. One's got no other choice than to want to listen intently to it. Amazingly beautiful song
Probably one of the best reviews I have seen. Well done. You got what I got.
Thank you sir.
