The one thing I will always say about it is that the original doesn't have the greatest tone for the lyrics. It sounds a little too upbeat and almost cheery compared to how David Draiman performs it, which has a darker, punchier tone.
@@theElemDragon back when it first came out was a much different time, the ESTABLISHMENT wouldn't have allowed it being dark. Today Disturbed has brought out what was truly meant. I will always love both versions.
And for our generation this songs means s-thing different to all the younger generations. They only hear the voice but didn´t understand the powerful words which stands behind this song.
I’m 64 and I can remember hearing it back then. The cinematography in this video is absolutely gorgeous. It combines a perfect use of the Zone Technique and the lighting commonly used in film noir. When the singer is looking straight into the camera, he looks right through you. I don’t have the words to describe how everything comes together in this video. Genius seems to be a gross understatement.
The best description of the differences between the original version and this version is that the original was a warning to humanity and this version is anger because the warning was not heeded.
Absolutely! I have to admit I had never heard of Disturbed until a few days ago. It's a very powerful song, especially today and this version brings that out. I'll have to listen to more!
Disturbed -The Sound of Silence video has over 1 BILLION views in 8 YEARS. 1 Billion seconds is equal to 33 years. This means, that more than three almost four people, had to click play, every second of every day for 8 years. WOW!!!
Paul Simon Said he thought this version by David was more powerful and true than their version, gave it full approval in an interview I saw right after Disturbed released it.
Oh yeah, David Draiman is phenomenal. Hes honestly the perfect introduction to metal because hes not super aggressive but he still has a powerful voice
id say nothing else matters by mettalica more heavy, but not as in your face i guess with instruments this song is like a blend of rock and opera i call it rockpera
Agreed. You watched PTX’s, and it’s indeed ear-candy…a wonderful rendition. But THIS, this hits so much harder in the feels and hits so much HARDER to the true meaning of the song. I think it’s how it was always meant to sound.
Thank you for also noticing and commenting on the visualizations, especially as the boat is reaching the people on shore to make a connection. One of the most powerful images for me is when the arms reach up to get the drum from the tree. I find that soooo beautiful. The rendition speaks (or sings) for itself. Beyond words.
Thank you for letting the song play then giving your reaction after.....putting the artist first then opinion next....plus also so many reaction youtubers make themselves 80% of the screen and 20% the artist of which you highlighted the artist primary.......totally classy and respect for your method...stay true and anyone reading this subscribe and like the way she did this!!!! You have my vote.....you are correct as this is an epic version of this song......breathtaking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks so much! I figure the artists are much more interesting to watch than me 🤣👍 Many reactions I've watched, the video is too small and I can't see it... so if it's one I haven't seen before, a lot of it gets lost for the viewer. And with songs like this, I get so wrapped up and don't want to pause... whereas more fun videos, I'm more prone to say things during the song. But certain songs deserve respect, as this one does. Thank you for your kind comment!
I’m so happy to see that this version by Disturbed is making a second round appearance, it was originally released in 2015. What’s old is new again and gaining popularity with the masses, it truly touches your soul! Loved the Simon and Garfunkel original but this version totally blows me away🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
Tge version takes the poignancy of Paul Simon's genius lyrical message and raises it to the sensory heights it so deserves. The comoosition here, along with Dramain's undeniable vocal diversity and power have given this song the new life it needed to resonate with its listeners for decades to come.
David has one of the very best male voices out there imho. So beautiful and clear when he wants... so deep when he wants... so high when he wants. Awesome power and control. The man can even put vibrato on his distortion, which is incredibly difficult to do. Great reaction and cool you waited until the end!!
I think this cover is indicative of the spiritual awakening going on all over the world right now. I know for me, it takes me to my soul level. Thank you for you're reaction.
Disturbed has a song called A Reason to Fight. It is a very emotional song that shows just how human David Draiman is. He wrote A Reason to Fight while thinking about all of his friends he has lost to depression and addiction over the years. If you do A Reason to Fight please do the official live video because it helps really show just how much Disturbed is helping other people through their music.
Yes, they normalize mental healthcare and ask for a show of hands to illustrate that every one in the audience has or knows someone who has had depression or addiction. It is very moving to see. Then they have phone numbers up on banners for the local mental health hotlines. God bless Disturbed.🖤
His voice is special. His range, tone and control, are on another level from most singers . This is the BEST COVER of this song by a wide margin in my opinion. Some other versions are ok even good. This one is spectacular, great, Amazing, and legendary. He nailed it.
Doing God's work with a song that came to us through decades of time to wake us up. Everything is made up of vibrations and this performance vibrates a code into our body/soul.
I have seen this video and reactions many many times and your interpretation of the people writing songs and the musicians coming together to break the sound of silence …. I never thought of that and no reactor saw it that way either - WOW, what a way to see that. LOVE THAT! Thank you
Geoff Castellucci also does an epic cover of this. One of the best descriptions I've read of them is basically this: Simon and Garfunkel's version: A warning. Disturbed's version: Anger that the warning wasn't heeded. Geoff Castellucci's: I'm so sorry.
Anger that the warning was unheeded? How odd for a metal band!! :P It's not just about the separation, it's also about the failure and corruption in society, and when speaking the truth marks you as "the crazy one". Slayer Does this REALLY well, especially across the entire album of "Seasons in the Abyss" (though, "Reign in blood" is probably more visceral).
The original version of the Sound of Silence is hard to beat. I see you have reacted to Pentatonx and now Disturbed. You should give a listen to Geoff Castellucci next.
Not only did he link it he rang David after the Conan show to congratulate Disturbed, he wanted to sing it more like Disturbed did but the producers said no as they were folk singers, so Paul always intended it as a harsher warning. It is high praise when the original artist loves a rendition.
I've always deeply felt the lyrics of this song. Everybody has a story to tell. Everybody has talent and vision to share, but if we don't communicate, if we ignore the messengers, or distrust the messages, if we stop listening to each other and depend on others to tell us who it's ok to like, who we should hate, what matters to us most, leaving the truth drowned out by the distracting chaos; if we further divide ourselves from each other, if we stop listening, stop trusting and caring about each other, stop sharing our 'songs' the silence left behind will be deafening. This version itself is a testament to the wonders humans can create when they bring their individual , uniquely amazing souls together to make a masterpiece!
S&G could not have said it better, the sound of silence, i see it like the way ppl are now with their smartphones. The world is silent, but the minds of the people are full of sound.
Thought this was to old for anyone to react to but I'm so glad you did. I absolutely adore Simon & Garfunkel but on this rare occasion I think I like this version better than the original. Apparently Paul Simon Liked it so much he promoted this version himself. Haunting and powerful is the only way I can describe it. Great reaction as always.
well you just gained a new fan after watching your review i just wanted to thank you for not stopping the video like alot of other people do the live version is even better and he was sic when he sang that song..

Paul Simon is a genius. When S & G sang the original, it was in the era of 'folk music' and they sang it that way. It seemed like just another pretty little folk song that nobody could understand, but was danceable. It wasn't until Disturbed's take on genius Simon's words, that the meaning became horrifyingly clear what we were doing to each other, and the world around us. Silence like a cancer grows! Peace ❤
Beautiful reaction as it captured how stunning the song/video is. I hope you can keep it up as we all know what not having pauses does. :( Thanks for your reaction.

I really don't know what word other than beautiful you could actually use to describe this. Seriously. What other word works? I love everything Disturbed did here, but oddly enough my favorite part is the visual when David says "and the people bowed and prayed" with his emotion and the flashing lights. It's hard to get past that point for me: it's all anger and disgust that we're headed for the destiny Paul Simon warned us about 60 years ago. Simply put: it's beautiful.
S&G version was a warning about technology and people losing the ability to actually talk to one another. David's version is rage at the fact humanity didnt heed the warning. So now we are to focused on our phones on social media. " People hearing without listening people talking wothout speaking. The neon god eg phones tablets computers tv.

David Draiman's voice and this arrangement is (in my opinion) the most appropriate for this haunting song
