I decided to go back in time and build a Windows XP rig. In this video I have tried to re-create my OS/desktop as I had in back in the early 2000's. I ran Firefox, AVG, Foobar, Steam (not appearing in this video), a ton of games, Total Commander, some Slysoft stuff, etc. Check out the video and let me know what I missed.

TH-cam recommends tek syndicate 6 years later: "woah that dude's hair got long"
I feel like TH-cam’s algorithm screwed him over, I’m subscribed and I thought this exact same thing but I see he has been making videos pretty regularly. He has a lot of videos I haven’t seen in all this time that I would’ve watched if I had seen them scrolling through, it’s like he disappeared out of my feed even though he’s been active as far as I looked back. Maybe I missed him taking a break?
@@CyanaraOfficial he killed the community tbh a few years ago and I don't know if it's just ego or a mistake because it was going well for him. Search up on Google what happened to tell syndicate gives you good background on why this channel died
@@dedotatedwam6001 ah noone knows what happened really. There will be a truth somewhere on the spectrum between the opposing stories. It's a shame this channel isn't as big as it was, but I'm glad it's still around.

I've also build a xp rig a while back with an xfx 680i lt sli motherboard, and two xfx 8800 gt alpha dog edition in sli and an intel core 2 quad q9650 3ghz. The actual building of the pc was so nostalgic with all the old parts i tooked together. Good job Logan keep up the nice work with your videos!

My favourite Windows version, followed by 98 SE and Windows 7.
I've been running Microsoft Office 2000 for years (since at least my first WinXP machine) and haven't bothered trying to upgrade. It does pretty much everything I need and I prefer buttons over ribbon bars by a longshot.
The memories though. Such a good time and such simpler times. Windows XP got me into tech, I loved customizing the desktop and sharing them on tech forums in the thread for screenshots haha. But I also remember the painfully reinstalling the OS like several times a year hahaha.

Everytime I hear nostalgia in this video, I look at Deus Ex, Morrowind and Oblivion in the background :)

I have not heard of foobar but speaking of media players I remember there was something called winamp. Anyway back in XP days I could play freecell all day long
i have xp pro and vista operating systems and love them
I still have it on old PC..... And it is still working fine... Without bugs, without BSOD with stupid smiles, *and without auto-forced-updates......*
....AND it is in a whole easily fit in to RAM that few tabs of Chrome will out of memory

...that will only work in firefox...as for firefox, thats just the latest x86 release for xp

I still have a PCs running XP Black Edition. a Core 2 Duo E8400, 4gb ram, HD6670 pcie and a P4 3.6 4gb with HF4670 AGP 8X. I get nostalgic for Amigas.

Unfortunately most of my most used utilities for XP and 2000 were small freeware one offs that you can no longer get.
I knew something was missing. I NEVER used windows XP without TeraCopy. It's much needed.

Have you experimented with using a retro gaming scaler for 640 by 480 games? I have wondered about using a retrotink 5x on a VGA PC signal for scaling up to 4K.

I use mypal and chrome 360 on my 64 bit windows xp as they are fully updated web browsers that are fully updated for xp.
Awesome video. I prefer to use Office 2003 for that authentic look. As far as CODECS go, I say don't use a CODEC pack unless you really need to. If you do, K-Lite is the way to go but I highly recommend that you don't use any codes packs. Sometimes K-Lite codecs don't work well with old games. When installing a game, if it needs a certain CODEC it should include and install it. If not, get the specific one it wants from one of those old software archives. Otherwise, VLC is the way to go for just watching videos. I highly recommend installing Notepad++. I think the latest still works for Windows XP. There is an old version that works for Windows 98. Notepad on 98 is awful. As far as Steam goes, yeah you're out of luck but some games can be directly copied from the Steam library folder to XP. I dual-boot for that reason.

Arx Fatalis? Are you KIDDING me?! There's a libre/open source engine re-implementation for this exact game that's MUCH better than the original engine. Runs on all modern operating systems, including GNU+Linux of course. arx-libertatis.org/

Games were easy to make back then, standards were way lower, the statistics should be taken with a grain of salt
Games are much, much easier to make now. Standards were high because much of the games media was comprised of actual gamers and not just some journalist. I'm no pro, but I'm very familiar with the tools, have read literally every book on the subject of game dev and they all go on about how much easier the tools are now. Basically, you're factually wrong on all points.
