The fact he was unable to down shift on much of the course, almost to the point of stalling, and yet to still win is testament to the rest of the car, and Robins skill as a driver. Great achievement!

@@crabapple1974 No. I watched the steering wheel the whole time, gears go down when he shifts down, throughout the course.
That sound u hear, like the gearbox is going to fall apart, is actually the unburned fuel from lifting off the throttle, combusting in the exhaust pipes.
In some other instances, his revs drop low, or low for that engine at least, and that may seem as if he was stuck in a higher gear than he should be in, but hes not; those were his driving errors, and that's what he meant when he said it was a "messy run"! The car was just fine, take another look...

I put Tri-Y headers, Gibson performance exhaust and a cold air intake on my 2001 Tacoma, 3.4 liter 4x4 Xtra cab truck to improve performance and fuel economy. I always drive it in it's optimal power range which of course means down shifting as needed. 1)Opposite lock 15ft from a cliff, holy crap.
II) Just brutal . You must be exhausted by the top.
    C) It's so stupid-quick that it looks like those cheesy sped up Cannonball Run era car chases.
Q- Congrats! So cool to see that a true privateer can still kick ass.

Amazing run, the speed is unreal. I wonder if the noise from the antilag would be distracting to the driver, because each time I hear it on video I instinctively spend a moment flinching and wondering if something has gone wrong with the car.

Very cool! I can see the switchbacks and other parts of the road from my mail box. Is there any way I can see the entire video just from the wig, forward cam? That would be kick butt! ;) I'd love to do a sporting drive on this one, full out would be even more fun! But the traffic and patrolling don't permit it.

Having driven this road in a rental Yukon with friends really gives some perspective in how insane this drive is. This is an intimidating piece of pavement at 25-30mph, in a Yukon at least 😂

Soundwise and how it handles this car kind of reminds me of Formel X in Project Cars 2 and that car is made up. Simply amazing. Impressive machinery and great driving. I'd really like to give this car a go as it seems so much fun to drive but I don't know if I had the balls to drive it on Pikes Peak.

    • @thesendyclub

      transmission wouldn't downshift at 1:15.
crackling sound is the antilag popping off

Take a look at which gear he is in from the dashboard display. Medium-fast corners might be in 3rd gear, slow corners in 2nd and first gear for really tight hairpins. You can see a couple of hairpins where the display shows 3 or even 4 mid-corner.

Like on one hand, a win is a win, which is awesome. On the other hand, between gearbox issues and his comment about setup, that had to have been frustrating; the car looked so brutally fast at some points that a target of sub 8:37 seems pessimistic… either way, congrats on the win, and hope you can get the gremlins sorted out to set a record next year!
