Driving flat out on narrow dirt roads, unpracticed beforehand, trees and rocks and spectators all along the track, loose and variable driving surfaces under you, weather changes when it changes, dust, animals, either you get lucky or you don't, you have to take it as it comes. And you are driving while putting complete faith in your codriver to call the turns correctly, or you end up in the trees at 100mph. And _he_ has to spend the entire race with his eyes on the pace notes, not losing track for a moment, putting complete faith in you to not kill him while you fly past the trees and rocks and slide sideways around blind corners. I stumbled onto rally years ago and the whole concept still amazes me. And I don't see how anyone can be as talented as a top tier rally driver.
