That’s what I thought too. Saw a press release on this and it’s a 2.0L 4 cylinder turbo with 380 hp. 🤨
@@woolybully02 It's probably super light as well. Looked like it was struggling with grip in a few places, even where there wasn't bumps.

It's sooooo impressive how well these expensive engines run at such high elevations! I live in a high elevation area of the Colorado Rockies. Riding my carbureted bike around 10,000-14,200ft is an interesting experience, but soooo much fune. It's tuned for 7,000ft so the pops from the exhaust sound cool as hell with an fmf exhaust on her 😎🔥
I don't know about y'all, but my heart is in my throat. Insane once you get about halfway up that mountain. Then the guardrails disappear and so do the mountainsides.
its wild how little of a brake slows the car down so much
Not sure that little brake icon is properly calibrated, I'm guessing there was more than that show by a lot. That said, he did employ quite a bit of engine braking.

It used to be worse. They built a new visitor center up on top, a few years ago I think. I ride motorcycles up/down piles peak alot and I shake my head at that exact spot you're talking about because they could have fixed that part during the time of building the new visitor center up on top 🤦🏼♂️

Mighty impressive for 2.0 HP.
Was the first time to watch this track by drivers perspective, not easy to drive, lower part is smooth, but the upper part is very bumpy, he even had a lot of wheel spin. Setup work under this conditions very difficult, too soft for the lower part but nearly too hard for the upper part. Track-mix reminds me a little bit on Nürburgring, but more sunny there😂. And of course, like always, in some corners you think "damned, I totally fucked up here" (f. e. around 2:00, corner apex not hit and wrong gear) but a good ride! Excellent!!

Comunque secondo me con quella macchina avrebbe anche potuto vincere, mi sembra bestiale... però giustamente se stai scalando le montagne e hai un precipizio a 10 cm di distanza non è facile portare la macchina al limite, io mi sarei cagato sotto e avrei fatto i tornanti ai 60km/h... quindi è stato bravissimo, complimenti, è come una vittoria! Se questo è l'inizio il primo posto non tarderà ad arrivare 💪
Swedish, two litre inline, turbo 4 cylinder pulling 380 bhp on a special 6800 max rpm tune for the altitude changes. Lift the front of that off the ground with your bare hands if you could find something to hold on to.
It must be so unnerving at the top of the run when you know drifting out towards the edge will give you a better line into the turn but you also know there’s a huge cliff waiting for you if you’re just a little TOO far out!!!😅

I have to admit, I'm wondering how they'd tune their engines for the change in altitude. Highest I've climbed (walked really) is Mt Fuji in Japan. That's 3776m I think, not quite as high as this, and the air is thinner up that high.

Dumas was quicker in a truck while standing still for a while with engine/battery problems. I'm not saying i could do what this guy did, but still, not super quick as some guys in the comments have implied.

Is this car a diesel or something? Why is he only revving the engine to 6000rpm and no higher? Never seen a petrol engine rev so incredibly low, especially on Pikes Peak, where you need every single hp you can get. Anyone know what kind of engine this far is using?
I believe it's a 2L petrol engine that is typically used to power hybrid vehicles, but I haven't found info on if they've got regenerative braking, could explain it's stopping power
Entirely possible it's just a very well tuned 2L, the car itself looks light as hell
But yeah from what I see online it typically runs at 6400RPM with peaks up to 6800 from what I've found online
lower peak RPM engines have a longer compression stroke, plus this has a turbo charger. This kind of engine design is more torque focused than HP. It’s probably a hybrid and electric power is biased more for torque, so i’m assuming this engine style compliments a hybrid electric power unit better than a high-revving, high horsepower engine.

No disrespect, but flatlanders don't understand how being at 6,000ft above sea level affects engines! Come to 6,000ft for 4 days and you might feel like crap for most of that time Lol. Especially around 7,500ft. I have a 2015 carbureted KLR705 (had a big bore kit and stage 2 jet kit installed). I had the bike tuned for an elevation of around 7000ft. At 14,000ft it gives a lil trouble to start up (lack of O2 being so high), but she always starts back up 😎 I've rode that bike to 14,000ft many times and many people gave me a look of shock/wtf riding that bike at such high elevations 😂 🤣
True… pretty sure they tuned the fuel/air ratio to compensate.
