In the workout settings you can turn on “Press to Pause” which allows you to pause and resume a workout by pressing the crown and side button at the same time. Helpful if you’re wearing gloves or if you don’t want to look at your watch. I recommend disabling the screenshots function otherwise you’ll be taking a screenshot every time you pause and resume a workout.

The Quantified Scientist showed it's sleep tracking is basically worthless. Mine shows "plenty of deep sleep" for nights when other trackers show 20 minutes of deep sleep, which is very low. HR is also not very accurate. I was able to give back my Fenix 7 thankfully.

To add to this, at least on my Fenix 6x you only have to enter the passcode once each time you put on the watch. After that it uses your constant biometric readings to keep it unlocked. The second it loses heart rate it locks it again so you can unlock it ahead of time and not have to enter the passcode at the checkout.
I heard people saying it was annoying, but it's still faster than pulling my wallet out if I haven't taken my watch off or punch in the code while I'm waiting in line, and it's nice to have if I lose my wallet, or leave it behind for whatever reason.

I'm team Garmin all the way. Battery life of a week plus is a must for me. And I don't need my watch to be smart. I have a phone for that.
Give me notifications, timer, mapping for hikes, health and wellness features, ability to store music and switch songs and I am good.
It would be nice to be able to do voice texting or receive calls on it, but that is not necessary.
And voice texting is only helpful if it has Google level accuracy. Otherwise I will just get frustrated and never use it.

    Great, entertaining videos, thanks! 🙌🏻
Quick feedback on the Garmin (yeah, I’m in the Garmin camp) 😉
Garmin Pay > Set up a button shortcut. Then you just have to press one button to access your Garmin Pay. IF you didn’t recently put in your pin or took your watch off it will ask for your pin. Otherwise it is just Press and Pay 👍🏻
Technically I believe that you are supposed to be able to pay with Apple Pay or Garmin Pay wherever a shop accepts contactless payment. On the store side it is indifferent if it’s one or the other since the terminal identifies ‘it’ as a contactless card. Not all shops accepts American Express, Debit Cards etc. But it doesn’t depend on Garmin vs Apple Pay 🤷🏻‍♂️
Music > If you didn’t sync Spotify or Deezer from home just once add your phones shared wifi as a wifi connection for your Garmin and then you are able to sync where ever you are 😉🤷🏻‍♂️
Directions > For navigation you might find it easier to use the Garmin Explore app on your phone or get the ‘Send Point’ app for your Garmin.
Keep up the good work! 🙌🏻

Also, I use Garmin pay and have no issues with it - am in the EU though. But.. You can customise hotkeys on the Garmin so the pay is just a press and hold of one or two buttons. Shervin. Another great piece of content. Like you? I have gone completely mad and bought an AWU and a Garmin Epix Gen 2. I have ONE big complaint with the Apple Watch Ultra (AWU). Apple Watch does not allow for recovery/rest days. Notifications from Apple tell you that you didn’t close all of your rings and “instructs” to close at least one. The watch (AWU) need to develop an algorithm that allows for rest days? And not “make you feel bad” for having a day off or switching off the watch.
The Garmin does let you know when you’re ready to train again - and tells you to take it easy on certain days.

Apple Watch Ultra is a smartwatch first and a fitness tracker second, the Fenix 7x is a fitness & navigation device first with some added on smart watch features. Someone who can train with an apple watch doesn't need a garmin 7x, someone who needs a garmin 7x cannot use an apple watch. They're not really comparable at all in my opinion. They're designed for completely different people. One is for ultra endurance athletes, multi-day trecks in the wilderness, etc. Apple does market their watch as being rugged and for mountaineering etc. however we all know those people still will use a garmin over apple watch. The crazy part for me about he apple watch is you can get a $400 watch that has similar sport tracking and will last you weeks if that's your thing. This would be like looking at two cars one built for offroading (super technical) that doesn't have heated seats, phone look up etc vs an audi A8 who can off-road but clearly it isn't it's main purpose.

Garmin Fenix 7x solar sapphire hands down, is the best Sports watch for athletes. Apple Ultra is the best Smart watch. I wouldn’t bring the ultra with me on a weekend Trail run because I’d run out of battery. Also the metrics that I get from Garmin are so much better. I wear my Garmin for sport and the Apple Watch Ultra as an everyday. I’m afraid to lose the metrics from my Garmin whilst wearing my Apple Watch, so I keep my Garmin on my ankle, and the ultra on my wrist when I’m not working out at work or out on the town. PS download purchased your music onto your Garmin. I just created four different playlists for running and working out so I have endless music of around 100 songs (I think it holds 2000). It also makes your music playing seamless. I press two buttons and I’m ready to go.

@@ShervinShares thanks for asking! Coros and polar pacer were one of the other watches I was also considering.
Based on reviews from people on TH-cam and from friends who are also into fitness, the coros doesn’t have a great hr tracking plus Garmin shows you a more detailed and explained wellness tracking that helps you know if you’re truly rested and if you could push yourself or if you should take it easy amongst many parameters it tracks.
I like that you can input an incoming race in calendars and it’ll modify the daily suggested training to help you train for that race. I’m also really interested in the Garmin badges haha there’s so many challenges to push you into trying new things just to collect them all and as someone who really needs that extra motivation, I appreciate it!
But! I think ultimately what made me stick to Garmin is what you mentioned, tracking your runs so that your friends or family know exactly where you are and that you can notify your safety contacts if you feel unsafe. As a woman that’s something that instantly made me go for the Forerunner.

Great review. Both are excellent devices. I have a Garmin Fenix 7, just upgraded from the Fenix 3 this year. I like how I don't need any extra apps like from Garmin for running, health and wellbeing, etc. I don't need the fancy Apple features. I can imagine if I was travelling the Apple watch would be nice to have a smartphone like map to help navigate though.
Love my Garmin though. You'd need to prise the Garmin from my cold dead arms.

People are too hard on themselves with brands! Never mind "not being good enough for a Garmin"., I'd totally wear a Garmin 900 series for one simple reason -- XC ski dynamics. I'm really not a good XC skier but hey, somebody's got to measure power and VO2 for skiers, which isn't easy because it's got to recognize different styles of skiing (skate v classic mainly, so a big premium on a good accelerometer and algorithms). Of course I have other hangups, how the watch looks (I've had a Vivoactive 3 for some time but it's been a journey to convince myself a bigger watch would look OK on my wrist) and how nicely it plays with my iPhone. I'm hoping for a good XC ski app to drop for Apple because it sure looks to me like the Ultra (and probably the Series 7/8 too) has the hardware that the Garmin 9xx watches have to support proper skiing measurement.
