- I trained 6 weeks to run a mile under 5 minutes. Ever since I found a love for running, running a sub-5 minute mile has been at the top of my list. I’ll share my preparation, training and race day experience and results.

Not even kidding, a 25min mile on crutches might just be more impressive than a 5 minute mile! That armpit/hand pain is no joke. Good work Shervin!
Facts - that’s actually kinda crazy
It’s not. I could do a 25 minute on crutches super easily
Lol I walked a 17 min mile on my crutches the other day. I think if I'd have tried and wanted to run there was easily 5/6 mins coming off that
25 min mile on crutches is pathetic, should take no longer than 15
Especially when he just started using the crutches! I remember as a kid it taking like 3weeks to a month to get better & comfortable moving on those things)!
Sherv, kudos for talking about "failure" - people only want to show their wins, but for the last 2 years, I feel like I've been making a ton of TH-cam videos about all my poor attempts at races. It's all about the process. I fractured my foot while doing my first marathon, and after I finished, I was devastated because I thought I'd never be able to run again. About a year later I came back and ran that same faster and stronger. Can't wait to see how the knowledge you have now will help you break that barrier even better than you would have sans injury.
Truly inspirational Sherwin. This is life. Stuff happens. You’ll learn from this and come back more hungry and smash that time. Don’t be discouraged. Finishing it on crutches is still amazing. Wow!!!
Thank you for sharing the highs and the lows, that’s real life stuff! Keep it up man, hard work pays off- always 💪🏼
Wishing you a fast recovery bro, love the channel.
You have inspired me bro, legit
I am happy you recovered mentally and dedicated yourself to participate
Praying you will be able to do the next one without injuries
What a friggen legend ❤🎉 absolutely inspiring man ! Enjoy the rest you deserve and look forward to seeing what you do when you off the crutches
That’s so inspiring. I love this so much. Congrats bro!
You are so motivating Shervin!!!
Inspiring! Great stuff! 💪🏼 let’s go 🔥
Great video! Thanks for sharing and being such an inspiration. Setbacks happen on everyone’s journey and we have to accept that gracefully.
I got chills on this, man! It's such a great video!
This was such a good Video, really motivating to keep going even when you down.
been waiting for this one man continue like that bro that's goods work
go one more
Shervin you are such an inspiration! Never give up!
Good job bro! Lots of ups and downs when it comes to chasing bucket lists. I’ve got 3 crutches, 2 foot pods, etc… from running and having goals. I’m older now so I’ve decided to play it a little bit safer. I tell my buddies, “stupid never dies.” In any pursuit, we tend to get over optimistic and get injured. Keep running the knife’s edge! Life is short, each injury is a road map as to what not to do next time💪👍👊
Good job on the mile with crutches and best of luck on the healing and recovery.
keep it up, don't stop!
I appreciate you not quitting, you’re probably my favourite TH-cam channel atm. Looking forward to more content from you and your son 😂
You are f'in awesome, man. That was amazing
I needed this video today. I know how it feels to be training, doing everything right, and have an injury take it away days before the big race. My injury was a year ago this month and I'm still building back my body and confidence to start stacking on the miles again. Way to stick with it and not accept defeat! Thank you for the motivation to get out there this spring and start climbing the mountain again. NYC this November!
Great video! Looking big & fast 💪
This is so motivating. Thank you for posting after all 🏃♂️ got my first half in four weeks and been trying to hit 7:00 miles. You’re my motivation man!
lofty and respectable goal. we love your videos. been running back to back 80 mile weeks for several months and couldn't break 5 min for the mile ATM (2:50 marathoner)
You may have missed your sub-5 min mile goal, but you hit your goal of being an awesome person. Congrats on never giving up and walking that mile in crutches. Hope you recover soon! Here's to your next run! :D
Incredible production value and storytelling. You da man, Shervin!
Congrats from Brasil good recuperation for you , good races , I like your video
i found this channel is the last days! what an amazing content ! go brother !!
Great video, totally an inspiration
You’re next on the sub 5 mile
You could have made it if you lost the weight.
Good Job. Proud of you 👍
Never stop chasing your goals
Never stop chasing your dreams
The people that lose are the ones that give up.
thank you for your motivation i have to run sub 11min 2miles and sub 5minute mile for my physical exam and every single day i lose hope that won't be able to run that much but your video gave me confidence that i should also not give up.
I’m a washed up former high school runner who used to be well under 5, and I’m trying to get back to a 5min mile. It’s hard as hell! But seeing folks like you gunning for it for the first time really inspires me. Hope things turn out better next time!
Inspirational, shows how when things don’t go as planned and it gets hard we never give up!!! That was impressive in 25 mins on crutches
This video literally made me cry. This is what discipline and perseverance looks like. Wonderful job.🎉
I enjoyed the video, and I hope you can find some peace mentally while healing. Build yourself up in the ways you can in the time off and keep the people who lift you up near as well. Congrats on completing that big training block, those adaptations may get a little sleepy while recovering, but they'll re-emerge more easily if you try to wake them up later!
Keep pushing!
I can almost see the head!
I had a electric skateboarding accident in 2017. Broke my ankle, needed surgery, non-weight bearing for 12 weeks. That was tough. Crutches are brutal. I saw your ankle after the fall and immediately knew it was broke. My ankle has permanent damage and will never be perfectly healed. I started running this summer. I am able to run 10k's now which I never thought I'd be able to do. Goal is a half marathon and then on to the real marathon. Keep it up Shervin. We all enjoy your content. Don't burn yourself out.
Sorry to hear bud keep at it!!!
This is freaking awesome bro 😎. The fact you’re a big dude and can haul ass is great
You’ll hit sub 5 for sureee - Love this video and how you still finished the mile 😤
Incredible! New subscriber ❤❤❤
committed.., that’s what’s up.
get plenty of rest in your recovery.., come back stronger
Mental strength off the charts dude 👏
Trust me, been there. Not with running, but with another sport. Trained like my life depended on it, put so many things on the back burner, just to injure my neck right before the tournament. I was gutted. I grieved from it. But, I did learn some amazing lessons through it, and one thing I learned was putting out the "failures" just like I would my successes. Hope you heal fast, and WELL, and I know this is just a matter of time before you get it dude.
Some valuable lessons in there
Legend!
Much respect for you. Not just giving up. You did something instead of sitting at home moping around
Well done mate, never give up 👍
Thank you!!
Honestly that’s badass dude. This was wicked inspiring
Thank you so much!
Please document your recovery, tips from coaches etc. That will be super valuable
Shervin….another great video. Like you I’m a big specimen - weighing 100kgs. I cannot tell you how much this helps. I’m older than you by a lot probably! 😂 but I live less than one mile from an athletics track. I’m gonna go for it!
Thanks again brother…👍🏾
Nice man🦾
There’s a stretch that can help with shin splints and so much more it is also strongly suggested to do form drills and warm ups/cool down before each work out. Overall you did absolutely amazing sir!🙏
I ran some marathons.... 5ks 10 ks..... I done stretches before races and ended up with cramps. I quit stretching before a race... Instead ran a quick 100 yards 1/3 full speed.....never had a crap again ! My thought is..... you stretch and muscles become" spastic " Its not normal......and they become tightened up once the race starts. Thus....muscle cramps !
Big guy runnjng fast!! Well done!!
I understand. I’ve been a runner and triathlete for 40 years with 21 marathons and a 140.6 Ironman. However, over the last six yeas, I’ve had three Achilles surgeries on my right ankle. I have six anchors in my heel. I’ve had to shift my goals from marathons to 15K and Half Marathons distances. My most recent surgery was December 2022 that was six weeks after my last 15K race. (8th of 58 in age group). After eight weeks on crutches and then PT, I started bicycle riding (5,000 miles so far this year) and added running back in July to prepare for a 15K run/race on October 28th. It’s been suggested I quit running but I’m determined to adjust again and keep running. Oh yeah, I’m 68 years old. So for you - heal and have patience to keep moving forward.
Ok every few weeks a video of yours comes up and i watched it. This 25 minute mile is the most amazing thing I've ever seen you do. Props sir.
wow i'm honored!! thank you!!
It’s so cool how busy the track is where you run I’m often by myself and a grandpa walks on it sometimes feels lonely at times especially the long easy runs
Just coming into my bike training block, but next spring im coming back to this video to see if i can push my mile time to sub 5!
Amazing ❤
brilliant video. now i want to go out for a run :)
What a great video
With access to everything to help you succeed + hardwork, you'll be able to hit a sub 5. Good luck on your recovery!
Nice video!
6 weeks to knock a minute off is super aggressive...
those are some quality closed captions, Shervin
27second 200sheeeshhhh lets get that on video! Big dawg movin😂
Something about watching you finish that mile on crutches made me tear up man, good job
Awesome content bro! Great progress
At age 32 6 foot 5 inches tall...... 230 pounds I finished a marathon in 2 hours and 40 minutes. Thats nearly and average of 6 minute miles. My best 5 K was 15 minutes. 10K 31 minutes. So.... yes it can be done with no problem ! Im now almost 70 years old.... able to still run a mile in 7 minutes. Most important..... you need to love running !
Accidents happen even to the best. Best of luck on your recovery... can't wait to see you try again. BUT, I would do so with MUCH more extensive RUNNING FORM coaching. When the time is right, you may want to closely looked at your form in a fatigued state. For example, look at your track run (side view) at 1:40, you will see (frame by frame) excessive heal striking and over striding. This sort of overreaching relative to your body weight is a fundamental problem and an injury waiting to happen. No amount of recovery, stretching or foam rolling is going to compensate for an injury prone overreaching running form. Concentrating on biomechanics will certainly give better results than simply a higher cardio fitness level. Wishing you the absolute best in your recovery!
I was going to say the same thing - no surprise he's getting shin splints and foot injuries. He's compensating for poor calf and foot strength with quads and hip flexors and landing directly on the heel. I had debilitating shin splints for months until I committed to midfoot striking and quickly built up calf and foot stiffness - there really is no other way. I haven't had a single injury since (touch wood).
Great video my pr on 1mile is 5:17 and my plan is to hit sub 4:50 to 30 I watch this video and I learned more important things to help me to hit my goals thanks so much
Genuinely bummed for you. You could've got it and you will. Got me motivated man!
TY! I will try again soon
Yes get it!
Didn't know you stayed with Colt! That's awesome haha
I really like your content. Wanted to ask: what pants you use for running? Having trouble finding good pants that avoid chafing.
Btw… maybe adding list of clothing you use could be a good add to channel?
Happy Sunday
11:44 yeah
I was very motivated this year to actually do sports. I enjoyed hiking in September 2023 and in February 2024 something switched on. I was so motivated to hike and train for hiking. Meaning, running, cycling, and strength training.
First hike, February 18th. Ice. Wrong equipment. I fell and got a cruciate ligament tear. Now, May 1st, I tried my first run again. Maybe 300m at a slow pace. But yeah... I can still do it this year. A big hike with climbs and more.
Better prepared. Better informed. And with the experience and knowledge from the February hike.
Great video. That really sucks about your injury. I’m coming back just now from a 5th metatarsal avulsion fracture in my left foot. 10 weeks after that I ran the Detroit International Half Marathon and was fine. Just be patient and let the foot heal.
Out of curiosity, what type of fracture did they say you had?
Been loving your context!! Quick question, why do you wear two watches?
You should be able to recover from the shin splints! I’ve had personal tendonitis for a couple months now and I’ve got my first marathon on Nov 4th.
Nice work on the sun 6 min mile as a start, especially at your size and not so long history of running. The goal of sun 5 minute mile in 6 weeks feels a bit too aggressive imo. You’ll be back at it. Would be interesting to collab with kneesovertoesguy to see if a plan from him could keep you shin splint free on your next attempt. Much love, get better soon
you'll come back stronger and faster
Earned a sub for being a demon fighting madman.
Let’s goo 🔥
"They might think I'm crazy" buddy, welcome to the running community. We love crazy.
perhaps there is an opportunity to add run-specific strength? and rehab strength ex for the tibialis posterior?
How dare you make me cry 😭
Look into the power lung product for lung warm up. It’s hella helpful
This was a great video apart from your injury.
What you did might be considered harder than what you wanted to do. No broken spirit. MUCH RESPECT!
Great to see one of us bigger guys go for some speed. Sorry about the shin splints. Those are not fun. Can I make a suggestion to try and eliminate the ice baths. Reason being is a lot of research seems to show the only definitive response from ice bath/cold plunges is the anti inflammatory effect. Furthermore research shows this has a big anti hypertrophic effect on muscles. One can surmise if you are training hard and then retarding the muscles ability to repair and grow through the reduction of inflammation you are causing an overall drop in performance as well as taking away the soreness signal that can help you govern you training to rest ratio. Just some thoughts after going through my own ice bath journey and realizing it's benefits, at least on a chronic basis, may be overstated and possible anti benefit.
Dropping a minute off your mile time in 6 weeks is a big ask! I know your injury was from tripping but sounds like you were pushing your body to it's limits so was expecting an overtraining injury. You can definitely do it but sometimes you need to just be patient.
How do u set those trainning on ur garmin watch ? Could u explain. Ty
Nice video. What is the model of your green running shoes?
What shoes are you wearing or recommend for running? Have you done looked into running with barefoot shoes or I am hearing Hokas' are good for running as well? Thanks
Now imagine doing a marthon in crunches. There was one lady in the Tejas NY marathon video that was doing it. There are wildly inspiring people out there.
🔥🔥🔥
Hey. I seems like you got a Jones Fracture which I’m currently healing.
Tripped and got a fracture.
Just don’t walk on it and it will heal fast
The Onewheel accident breaks my heart 😭
Oh dang, sorry you got hurt! This seems like a lot of effort just for content creation, though??? Run because you enjoy it, and you'll get there!! :-)
Hello sir, how did you heal from shin splints? I too am suffering… i got it from playing football.
What track are you running on? I live in NY too and looking for track to run on other than McCarren.
