    I was once asked by a cop, "Do you have any reason for speeding?", to which I replied, "Yes. I didn't see you. If you weren't hiding I wouldn't have sped!" They just laughed. Then fined me.

    Australia is great in a way. They pull you over for going over speed limit, they explain to you why and when the infringement happened and they even show you the actual gun ?!!! In the United States that’s unheard of, you don’t have any interaction with the police officer they just come over grab your license and then they give you a ticket. Most of the time people are left wondering whether or not they actually did something wrong. I just had a case where the officer claimed I was going 88mph in a 55 zone and he didn’t want to show me the gun so I brought to court and left with no ticket.

    • @Type_ant

      In the United States that's unheard of? wtf you talking about ? And also, be glad you live in a country where they can't drug and alcohol test you at random. Not for safety but for freedom. Get the fudge out with this comment.

    • @GlobalTossPot
      @GlobalTossPot 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @FitManFatty not the point, if they pull you over for your speed and your speed only you shouldn’t have to do any “random” tests. It’s not about being concerned about having to do them, it’s called not kneeling down like a peasant. This is what’s wrong with a lot of places; so many of you are gullible and will easily obey ridiculous things like that and wonder why we live in an overly controlled society. You may be fine with people walking all over you but some of us are not.

      @FitManFatty no I haven’t been living under a rock. At my job there are many bad employees just like every job. And to be honest it’s disgusting that there are cops out there like that. But my point here is freedom. Just like when police ask people to search their car. It’s their right to so no to the police. That’s my point. When I get pulled over, I ask why and stop answering questions. The police sometimes give me problems (the 3 times I been pulled over) but since they have no real cause to do anything I’m always let go. So that’s my point.

      Rubbish the current speeds on the road in Australia are ridicules wat too slow ..Cars, bikes tyres brakes, suspensions have been improved to an unbelievable performance level sine the "old" days add that to todays sophisticated electronic traction control and anti lock brakes ...compared to the old lump of a motorcyle and cars if anything the speeds on highways should be increased like they have done in some European countries... I had been driving since 1986 and ridding since 1990 my first big bike was a Katana which when it came on the market was a "great handling " bike well maybe compared to the rest of the crap but still was a heavy lump of dog turd with 19 inch narrow front tire and brakes that were a joke by todays standar's. While living in Europe few years ago I felt very comfortable and SAFE ridding at double the national 110 km/h *legally riding ZX12R with my wife on the back , at over 200 klicks felt so easy the bike top speed is over 300 km/h so for it was a leisure a walk in a park ... I would never want to do that on a Katana ...mind you it would have done that ...don't ask me how I know that :P . But the technology was not up to the scratch yet The problem on the Aussie roads is not the speed but the idiots and drunks and junkies behind the controls who pull out in front and verge onto wrong side of the road.... nothing will change that , The rest is just money grab revenue for the thieving gummiment.

Kangaroos and other wild/or farm life do not respect the fact that cars and roads are better today than 40 or 50 years ago.

    bruh. here in poland where i live, you are only suspended when exceeding the limit x2 but ONLY in cities. so for example you have to go 100+ in 50kph zone (that's the most common speed limit in cities). there have to be a sign that there will be a camera, and you can exceed the limit by 10kph, they only can give you a ticket if you go 10+ faster. i think some of this laws are the same in whole European Union. BUT WHEN you actually get suspended, you have to take your driving exam again. here we have these special highway units called 'Speeds', they don't even bother stopping you when your going around 160s in 140 zones, you have to go well over 200 for them to bother stopping you in the middle of the highway. speeding on highways is commonly accepted here

    • @nakeddrifter4685
      @nakeddrifter4685 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      And really with our modern cars and bikes we should be able to do 160kph so long as we are not endangering others.
      I am Australian and on one trip from Adelaide where I live to Alice Springs my average speed was 180kph, if I seen another vehicle on the road I'd slow down to the speed limit, if I came to a bend, I'd slow down to the speed limit, if I was overtaking I would slow right down and only overtake when it is safe to do so.
      So long as you are courteous and show common sense I don't see a problem with travelling at high speeds on open roads.

I really get why there are limits in cities with pedestrians crossing etc, but highways are built to go fast. new cars can safetly go at least 180 at open, straight roads with no traffic without causing danger to other drivers. our limits remember times when going 150 in average car wouldn't be possible or would be ultra dangerous. these cars didn't have ESP, ABS, and other systems

    Okay so as a road safety engineer, I can explain that those barriers along the sides of the road and the centre line are tested for cars to collide into and absorb impact by deflecting without causing serious injury or death at certain tested speeds. For you as a motorcyclist, good luck even surviving when you slide into the exposed stems of the barrier at 30km/h. While the speed limit may not always feel right and often times be way too low (I agree this should be a 100km/h zone), I wouldn't take risks in case road conditions change. Generally there is a reason speed limits are changing along highways at certain sections.

    License suspensions should only be meted out if the driver has demonstrated dangerous driving AND poor judgement that could have led to a severe accident. The cops should have the authority to decide whether this rider posed a risk to society by being behind a wheel or handlebars.
    Speeding in a school zone where kids are present (with similar prior offences?) That's an example of poor judgement by someone who shouldn't be driving.
    Letting out some throttle on your motorcycle (with full gear on - clearly the rider is experienced) on an empty highway in clear sunny conditions? You're fucked for the next 6 months. If this guy was a tradie who's job relied on driving then he is absolutely shit out of luck.

      Its Ridiculous ,This machine is probably capable of well over 200kph, the motorbike is designed to handle well at high speed ,we are driving 1940s speed limits with 2022 technology ,when I was young, there were a lot of speed limits set at open speed limits ,the sign read a circle with a line through it ,but my fathers drove at 120kph because that was the speed that car was most comfortable at ,some people drove slower some drove faster.Sometimes a car like a ford GTO would pass our family Belmont Holden doing something like 170 or 180 kph and my father would yell waste of power, waste of power ,and shake a fist ,but we all new dad was just pissed because he did not have one, then a couple of years later in the 70s dad bought a Datsun Family sedan which was underpowered ,but highly geared and could easily cruise at 160 170 kph ,so when dad was in a hurry and the conditions were right that's what he drove at. when you did training to get your licence it was drilled into you to drive to the prevailing conditions ,ie if its raining or the road surface is not in good condition drive slower ,it was also drilled into you to drive at an appropriate speed for your car ,ie if your car did not handle well you drove slower ,if you had a higher performance car you could expect to drive faster, when I was at school kids would say my father drives at such and such a speed ,no-one really criticised kids who said that there father drove slower ,it was just accepted that you drove within the limits of your machine and to the prevailing conditions .I really feel for this guy because he is not endangering anyone ,he is relatively young and alert ,he has to deal ,among other things with the fact that we now live in a nanny state ,you can no longer go out and ride to enjoy the machine ,meanwhile in Germany they are travelling at 300kph .It Just does not make sense ,back in the day we had open speed limits for a reason ,because we live in this vast and sparsely populated country ,we of all countries should reintroduce open speed limits in conjunction with the appropriate training driver courses .

But for whatever reason its set too 80kmh is beyond me, I want to guess its a revenue raising tactic.
    We are having the same problem in Sydney on the M7, 80km roads when you can easily go 100 hell even 110 safely, its a frustrating motorway to hop onto after getting off the 110km M4 or the 100km M5, then they'll plop mobile speed cameras or highway patrol all over the M7 because they know enough drivers will be frustrated enough to not heed to the ridiculous limit. Weirdly enough, if I have the time I usually opt to go through the 60km roads going past M7 because its less frustrating and annoying and hop onto the m5/m4 from there.

      They don’t give a shit, can’t even follow their own road rules but will pull you over because numpty (usually foreign) drivers aren’t doing the limit so you stick out doing 80 in an 80. Could go on for hours about this shit

    Ah shit. Sorry mate. I got pulled up in Russel Street last week; filtering but improper pass of a vehicle. Police were on foot and directed me off the road. The Senior Sergeant was polite and respectful, as was I, but I was a bit freaked out at the start as he started his engagement with, " my body cam is on. Anything you say may be used in a court of law". (Shit) What followed was a respectful chat and a caution. You handled that very well. Stirling job.

  • @roadmonitoroz

    My guess is that the speed limit is 80 KPH due to the lanes merging there. Apart from that, it seems like a decent road where 118 wouldn't be that excessive (i.e. 100 zone after the merge). Pretty easy to crawl over on a bike. Even my bike can break 100 in first (so I've been told officer).
    I find it amusing that they bring out the drug and alcohol test when they've already got you for speeding. Just want to pin a few more things on to you.
    Ps I got done for doing 2 KPH over (speed van was wrong and said 7 ???) . I actually went down with a digital tape measure (laser) but was still 2 KPH over so had done the crime. Do the time. I was hoping I'd find it as the speed limit then I would have taken it to court.

      The laws are funny with the breath tests. They are allowed to pull anyone over for a 'random breath test' but it's also their policy to breath test everyone that they pull over.

    After watching this video I then had a read of the comments, as you do. My first response was "well you knew it was an 80 zone, but chose to do 118". That was followed by "suck it up, sunshine". I don't know that road, and as I'm not a traffic engineer can't comment on whether 80 is too slow or not. A lot of commenters seem to have little idea of speed limits in other countries. German Autobahns with their 130 speed limits sound great, but remember Germans are actually taught to drive properly. Here we just have basic lessons and basic tests, and getting a licence in Germany is about 3 times the cost here. Of probably a dozen fatal motorcycle crashes I've been to, all but two could have been avoided if the motorcyclists rode better. They might not have caused the crash but didn't have the ability to avoid it.
