- Took a trip to Overland Expo West in Flagstaff Arizona and tried out the R1S for camping! This was a trial run for a family of four. Can we all fit in one vehicle? Oliver and I slept well but had a couple of minor issues. See also our R1T Camping gear vid from last year:

Awesome! 👌🏼
Thanks!
Scott, sounds like you may not be aware of another 110 outlet in the back seat under the rear climate controls? There are 2 in the R1S. Hope I suprised you!
Thanks. Yeah I had forgotten about that one. My point is more that there wasn’t one on the exterior. Thx.
Can you show me a demo of you opening the Tree House ?
I bet if you made a wooden platform for the back with seats down, you can increase storage with pull out drawers. It does limit head room a little bit but makes use of storage and not needing to unpack the rear every night.
Yeah, I have a friend who’s working on something similar to what you are describing. There isn’t a whole lot of room to play with, but it’s definitely possible.
@@RivianDadI'd recommend this set up th-cam.com/video/E72zc-Wx66c/w-d-xo.html
Just camped in the back with my son last night (for the first time). We used an air mattress designed for the model y. It fit perfectly and had space near the tailgate for our shoes and other items. Getting in and out through the tailgate, and having to hit the button on the outside to close the tailgate, was the only thing that annoyed me. Other than that, this is a perfect road trip car for two people as-is. I think it could work for a family of three with a smaller kid as well, but four would be a stretch without a separate tent.
And just to clarify, we camped in the back of my R1S.
What is the brand/model for your Model Y mattress?
I suspect you meant press the button on the liftgate, not the tailgate. No need to press the button on the tailgate to close it - just pull it up.
None the less, when I've camped in the back, the lift and tailgate are already closed as I usually enter via one of the 2nd row doors. If I wanted to enter via the rear of the vehicle, I would just pull up the tailgate and use the front center display to close the liftgate.
How is water condensation in the R1S when sleeping inside? Does Campmode circulate air out of the vehicle? Thanks for the great videos!
Didn’t notice any at all.
Condensation is nonexistent sleeping with the HVAC running. It's one of the plusses of running the HVAC while sleeping even when the temp is otherwise comfortable.
How did the roof top tent affect the efficiency on the FWY? i'm really interested in putting a Rooftop on my R1S but worried about range.
Stay tuned, I have a whole video all about that coming up probably this weekend. The headlines are that it didn’t affect it as much as I thought it would.
Yea there’s a lot of curiosity and questions about RTTs and the R1S. This is the first video I’ve seen to really get into it, and it wasn’t much.
@@RivianDad any update?
@@rogeryin editing vid. Probably later this week.
Great video. Question: when sleeping in the back, are you able to climb in through the tailgate and then close the tailgate behind you? And then open the tailgate from inside to extricate yourself?
Yes, you can pull up the little half tailgate. Then reach out and push the liftgate button to lower or control the liftgate from the infotainment screen. To open, you’d have to do it from the infotainment screen if I’m not mistaken.
You could also do it from the fob
