    Hi, I was wondering if you had some insight or advice. I have an offer for an entry level step position, but I'm 2-4 years into the industry. The manager knows this so I asked if I could get bumped up to a comparative grade, but he refused. It's a 7,9,11,12 step for an engineering position.
    Is it really that difficult for them to open up a higher grade position if they like me? I've explained to the manager many times that I won't accept this pay and he's still hounding me to sign.
    Even entry level positions in my field would be in the 11 range and I don't feel like starting my career over on the bottom rung.

    • @theTSAguy
      @theTSAguy  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There are hiring quotas and the office only has a certain number of slots allocated for each pay grade. The manager could make the case to HR to hire you at a higher pay grade but they need to justify it.
      The thing about government is that you start off with a lower salary but you’ll be right back to where you want to be in a matter of 2-3 years. You can always take the job and then ask for accelerated promotion. That’s what I did.
      As far as what you should do…it depends on what your end goal is and if the government job will help you get there.

    Hey man, Watched a ton of your vids through the TSA hiring process, passed CBT, got Tentative Offer, Filled out SF-86, then completed finger printing and did medical… ONE issue, a week after I took the medical they sent an email saying I did not meet the requirements! I’m 23 not obese healthy physically and mentally, the only thing that wasn’t Ideal is I’m on Sertraline which is a non-sedative SSRI medication. I’m now waiting for the appeal paperwork to come in so I can begin to file, I’m researching strenuously to make sure it gets overturned after I fax the appeal… Any tips or advice with TSA and SSRIs on the med. Eval? Love the vids man, keep it up. Thank you!

    • @theTSAguy
      @theTSAguy  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You should be fine, they want an independent doctor to sign-off on you. It’s not automatically disqualifying. You were sent to a contract health facility and they are mostly RNs and PAs. They don’t have the same qualifications as a MD to sign-off on certain things.
      Later…for your security clearance it won’t be a concern because there’s a HIGH threshold to deny clearance for mental health issues. They literally need to justify that the mental health issue will cause you to compromise national security.

    I’m concerned that you are stating to divulge expunged records. As it states clearly on the application DO NOT disclose expunged records. But you are saying tell them??? Please elaborate

    • @theTSAguy
      @theTSAguy  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve listed the link to the SF-86 pdf document from the OPM website. The document is the latest revision. See section 22, the box that says “Police Records”
      www.opm.gov/forms/pdf_fill/sf86.pdf
      Not mentioning sealed/expunged records counts as a willful omission. It’s seen as mitigating to present yourself in a better light and it closes off lines of necessary questioning. When applying for a security clearance everything is on the table. I’ve seen new hires get walked out because of this. It’s not up to you to decide what the investigator needs to know. When you apply for a security clearance your life is no longer private.
      See the link I listed below.

    Hey! I was looking to apply for tsa but I’m worried about the background check because I’ve only worked 2 jobs in the past 5 years. My memory is a little fuzzy too about one of the jobs so I’m not sure about the dates. Also my recent job that I was at for 3 years, I was terminated for violating company policy. I figured I should be completely honest while applying but am I immediately disqualified from being hired because of what happened in my previous employment?

    • @theTSAguy
      @theTSAguy  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You’re never immediately disqualified, you’re always given the opportunity to explain yourself. As long as the violation wasn’t a legal violation then you’re good. Just tell the investigator what happened that way they hear it from you first and they aren’t surprised by it later. Just know the employer will most likely show the investigator your employee records.

      @@theTSAguy Wait, was that a yes? lol

    • @theTSAguy
      @theTSAguy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes lol…but it’s definitely not disqualifying. There’s a lot of caveats which the investigator will address with you. You’re going to list the job on your SF86 and put the reason for leaving is termination. Then tell the investigator what happened. As long as it’s not habitual behavior and it’s just a lapse in moral judgement then they will be more forgiving of it. You’re not expected to be perfect, just be honest.

    Hello. Hopefully you respond to my comment because I’m desperate to hear any advice you may have.😩
    So I applied for TSA back in March of this year. I completed the SF 86 form, signed a NDA form, the phone assessment, the interview, the drug and medical screening, and finger prints…I passed everything. I completed my fingerprints on 06/02 and I’ve been stuck in limbo ever since. 3 months have passed since my fingerprints and haven’t heard back from anyone. My application says 67% and that I’m stuck in background. Is this normal? The whole process has been a total of 6 months and I’m starting to get a little discouraged. Any tips or advice you may have? Do you think there may be something wrong?😕

    • @theTSAguy
      @theTSAguy  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You’re fine, the background investigation is the longest part. 6 months into the process is not a lot of time. Mine took about 22 months. My advice would be to not put all your hopes into one job and to keep applying for other jobs until you get hired.
