Yes its 9 years later. Thankyou soooo much for this video. I was having throttle problems on my DX6i with this video I fixed the problem in 10 minutes. Awesome, thanks.
You saved me money bud. Im a nube and was trying my TX out in Pheonix flightsim whem my rudder jammed and went nuts. Luckily on a sim and not on my pricy scale heli. Followed your advice and in half an hour I was up and running again. Made me feel like an electronic engineer. Thank you.
Another one fixed, many thanks for your video and it's got a young lad flying so a great outcome. Ironically it's only my very first dx7 that's been reliable, all others have had failures and I'm still amazed that every futaba we've owned back to an 'm series' we used in the 1970's still work! Great that spektrum brought 2.4ghz to the model world, maybe a little more quality needed though in my humble opinion and best part of 50 years experience...
Thank you very much for the help. I also had trouble with my pot, the aileron to be precise. I used my resistance tester and tested the contact points on the pot and the end of the lead wires to make sure that there was no break in the wires. Then I removed the pot caps and cleaned both the insides as you recommended. It worked and now before every flight I will check the monitor to make sure they all work before any flights. You saved me a lot of money as I do not live in the USA. Hope it last.. :)
Problems today with my DX6i and a glitchy elevator, all the other channels working fine. My first gasser, a Great Planes Giant Super Sporster and I've had 11 previous flights. I've been using this transmitter for at least the last 4 years and and its been great, until today. It's very alarming to see during the runup and surfaces check. No UP? Quirky glitchy DOWN? Something Is wrong for sure, shutdown and go home and do some trouble shooting. Well three other planes I have on this Tx exhibit the same problem, So its the TX. This solution shown in the video corrected the problem. All I used was a Q-tip and some denatured alcohol. The smallest amount of black crud came off. Probably saved me $300 if I went out and replaced it and saved me at least a month if I had to send it out to HH for servicing. THANK YOU BIG TIME.
BansheeFifteen You're welcome. Seems to be a common problem with this generation radio. Horizon must have made a bulk purchase of cheap junky potentiometers.
Yeah I'm going to be watching this Tx closely as I continue to use it. I bet I got a $1000 invested in the Great Planes Giant Super Sporster and I sure don't want crack it up because of a faulty Tx potentiometer. My 18 y/o Hitec FM Flash5 has never had an issue like this. I originally thought Spektrum was better than it actually is. Learning about the MONITER screen and using its info is going to be added to the cheklist. Otherwise, besides this recent problem, its been a good Tx.
Thanks for the video. Mine was doing the same thing. I pulled had it apart & was looking at replacing the pot, but after watching your video I decided to clean it & see how if it helps. Well, it's working again, and you saved me some work. Cheers!
Thank you! Taking the pot off and cleaning the sensor fixed my elevator stick centering issue! I also made sure to bump out the tiny coils that make contact with the actual pot a bit more.
Just an addition to this thought train. I had cleaned mine with denatured alcohol and a q-tip and it solved the problem and my elevator channel is working fine now. I've continued to research the subject of cleaning potentiometers and in the guitar amp world where this seems to be a common problem, a product called Deoxit seems to be the product of choice. Since we can get into the pot, I ordered the Caig DeoxIT, Gold, Fader - 3 x 2ml squeeze tubes, 100% solution - 1 each of D100L, G100L, F100L and will do a three part cleaning, enhancing and lube. The alcohol and Q-tip solved the problem, but since you can find this kit on ebay for $13, I'm going to try it for the added benefit the kit offers.
Thank you very much! you saved me at least 70 bucks. I had the right side left and right pot get flaky. It was the one more on the inside, but I only needed to get 2 of the metal posts open to get the pot open. It worked great so far! Thank you Brother!
Thanks so much for the video. I had the same problem but with the Rudder. It was reading FULL LEFT. I fixed it as shown on the video and it works flawlessly. After repair I measured the resistance of the Rudder potentiometer and it showed similar readings as all other potentiometers of the TX.
I repaired Nikon, Leica, cannon, etc 1980’s generation cameras. I personally used zippo premium lighter fluid in the tin. That’s all you use in a camera interior as it will not damage components. If lubrication is required, mix a small amount of graphite in a small amount of lighter fluid and work fast. Apply to component, exercise a few times, fluid will evaporate, problem solved. It never affected electronics, light meters, and so on. It has been used for repair since cameras first came out. Hope this helps, Jimp
Great info, just ran into this problem. Thanks for posting, saves us all a lot of time. In camera repair we only use lighter fluid for interior work, it dries quickly and disappears completely! Thanks again, Jimp
OK, received the DeoxIT kit and decided to service all four potentiometers. If I'm doing one, I might as well do all four. Not for the faint of heart. Requires taking out both gimbals and partially disassembling them so you can get to the aileron/rudder pots. The other two pots can be serviced easily because they are right on the end. The aileron/rudder pots require lifting out the metal retainer clip holding the elevator/throttle pot, that will allow removing those pots and then you can get to center of the gimbal for the aileron/ throttle pots. I would warn anybody doing this to be careful when bending the 3 tabs on the pots, you don't want to break them off. But I was able to open all four of mine, (clean, condition, and lube) and get it all back together again. Got out to the field to test it with a Parkzone SE5a foamie and put in two flights. All seems well with my DX6i. Will continue testing, and doing range testing. Anybody doing this should realize they could be frying their Tx and it's a risk they have to decide whether to take or not. But it does seem "Doable". I won't be buying a new Tx yet.
WOW! This works. Had an elevator problem. Horizon wants $60 to $80 to fix and they won't sell "internal" parts. Tech said the DX6i is obsolete and I should buy a new DX6 or DX6e.
I know this is an old video, but I fixed my DX6i using replacement potentiometer using a hole gimbal replacement for a FlySky FS-TH9X Transmitter: www.banggood.com/Flysky-FS-TH9X-2_4G-9CH-Transmitter-Spare-Part-ThrottleDirection-Main-Bearing-Seat-p-1057412.html?rmmds=buy&ID=521910&cur_warehouse=CN You can pull the pots out of the FlySky gimbal and replace just the pots or you can just replace the centre of the gimbal as the gimbal housing are almost the same. The Spektrum housing has slightly longer post holes that mount the gimbal in the DX6i body. You could technically unsolder the wires from the Specktrum gimbal body and just use the FlySky body as it would work, just less thread holding the gimbal body in the housing. NOTE: You must calibrate the sticks before the new pots work successfully. Search for calibrate DX6i on youtube
Thanks so much for the video! I was having the same problem so I followed your procedure and it fixed my issues totally. Where in Canada are you? I'm in Ontario
Im having the same problem but with the rudder channel.. Where is the potentiometer for that? Im not running the DX6i, Instead I have a Tactic TTX850. The stick will read different pretty much every time i turn the transmitter on.. Any input would be appreciated
I was close to run the recalibration lots of people are suggesting, but this prob would never have been solved by that. Took me 10 mins to fix it. Thanks again. :)
Is it my imagination or are Canadians big DIY-ers? It seems like every time I find a youtube on how to fix something it's a Canadian! I think I'd fit right in up there.
Hi friend, nice video. I have a really big problem I think. Last time when I meet a "instructor" to fly my apprentice plane for the first time, we linked the transmitter using the trainer port, my DXe spektrum did not work at all. I am new with this, but the instructor evidently, seemed he did not what he was doing. My DXe stop working , it went off. I tried to turn ON , it turned on, it beeps few times , then continue beeping constantly. The transmitter is unresponsive, I can not bind back to the plane, it continuously beeping. I tried to use with a simulator and everything works except for I can not control the speed , I can take off but no landing because is at high speed all the time. I read that the throttle might be bad , hope not.I totally lost. I have not contact Horizon yet. The store from where I bought they don't what could be, they say , never seen that before, Please advise. This is a two months old transmitter

Watching your videos years later on my dx6 doing some work on it

You're welcome. Sure seems like a lot of people have this issue with an otherwise decent radio.

Just fixed my DX6i throttle using your fine, clear instructions. I've had it for years and it very suddenly stopped working. All good now.
Thank you..... my throttle stopped working on my DX6 and this fixed it.. I almost spent $300 on a new transmitter

Thanks! Try to use my decade old DX6i out of storage but the throttle was messed, this fixed it! Beauty!
Thanks for the video. Mine was doing the same thing. I pulled had it apart & was looking at replacing the pot, but after watching your video I decided to clean it & see how if it helps. Well, it's working again, and you saved me some work. Cheers!
well done video, worked for me and my hubby great! Struggled all day to try and fix, now we can fly again
Thank you. My problem was identical (DX6i and Throttle) and is now fixed following your instructions. Thanks for sharing....

Thank you for posting this. I had the same problem, no response on the throttle. Cleaned it with the eraser and alcohol, and it works now.

I have the same Problem with the aile. But these horizontal potis are harder to reach or not?
+Tom Doener sure that are

Two Owls Lighter fluid? I haven't heard if that one. I will try it next time since I have a bottle collecting dust. Thx for info.
Just wanted to let you know, I tried what you did and it worked. Thanks.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I just did to my DX6i what you did, and turned it from being a shelf warmer to being a working Tx!
You're welcome. Mine is still working fine since I repaired it so it seems like the repair is holding.

BansheeFifteen Cool. Keep us posted on how it works.
Thanks i have the same problem.....gonna try the repair.....its worth a shot!!
Thanks a lot. Had the same issue. This works perfectly. Greetings from Germany.

Thanks a lot it fixed my transmitter
Good job Cory. Knew you could fix it.
I know this is an old video, but I fixed my DX6i using replacement potentiometer using a hole gimbal replacement for a FlySky FS-TH9X Transmitter: www.banggood.com/Flysky-FS-TH9X-2_4G-9CH-Transmitter-Spare-Part-ThrottleDirection-Main-Bearing-Seat-p-1057412.html?rmmds=buy&ID=521910&cur_warehouse=CN

Nice, that just saved my evening
thanks same problem with my throttle stick
Thanks so much for the video! I was having the same problem so I followed your procedure and it fixed my issues totally.
Where in Canada are you? I'm in Ontario
You're welcome. I'm in Alberta.
Super! You fixed me up! Thanks much!
Used a little hot glue to hold the pot cover on instead of bending the tabs back assuming I'd have to do this repair again eventually.
Im having the same problem but with the rudder channel.. Where is the potentiometer for that? Im not running the DX6i, Instead I have a Tactic TTX850. The stick will read different pretty much every time i turn the transmitter on.. Any input would be appreciated
Many thanks. Solved my problem aswell.
You're welcome. Seems a lot of people have this issue with this radio. Glad I can help with a potential solution.
hello friend,I have the early DX7 spektrum and its in mode 2 ,can you advise how to swap the stick round to mode 1.thanks
Thank you so much - you saved my day!
K4t4kis You're welcome. I'm quite surprised at how many people have had this issue. Glad I could help.
I was close to run the recalibration lots of people are suggesting, but this prob would never have been solved by that. Took me 10 mins to fix it. Thanks again. :)
Where can I get the trim rocker of the DX8?
Thanks! It worked perfectly!
Is it my imagination or are Canadians big DIY-ers? It seems like every time I find a youtube on how to fix something it's a Canadian! I think I'd fit right in up there.
Steve Gee Not really sure. I guess I do it because I like to as well as out of necessity. Why have someone else do it when you can do it yourself?
Hi friend, nice video. I have a really big problem I think. Last time

Horizon yet. The store from where I bought they don't what could be,
they say , never seen that before, Please advise. This is a two months old transmitter
here is a 30 seconds video of the weird beeping, thanks again
Hi there, how old is your dx6i that you repaired? My dx6i is 4 jears old and do not have any problems, (yet) Cheers.
Can't remember for sure but at least 4 years old. Does not have a lot of use, though.
Thanks my radio works ¡¡¡ :)
good work but why when testing it you fly so close to a person ? not very clever is it ?
jamich1 What person? Me? Camera was on a tripod, not in someone's hands. The voices in the video were a ways back from the camera.
Lafond RC I thought someone was standing there. But I also meant your self. It looks like you fly it very close.
jamich1 I can't sue myself if I take my own head off lol.
°Thank you...it worked :)
Thank you!
shoulda done em all!
Than you so much. Just had the same problem. Cleaned with PCB cleaning solvent. You are a star. Andrew from the UK
