Thank you for this! I still watch it to make sure I’m doing it right. It’s still the best controller out there. One more piece of advice- if you can’t get the arrows perfect you can sub trim them to the middle. Thanks again sir.
Thank you for this video! I noticed yesterday while getting reacquainted my DX6i that when checking MONITOR mode the calibrations were off. Your video helped me to get them to near perfect!
You are a very easy to understand assum teacher. I wood like to thank you for lesson. I just bought a Vibe fifty Nex copter. My remote is a DX6i. I was really hoping u could show me how to bind with it so I can pilot this beast.
Great video. Thanks. Centre all trims before you start. This is critical. I tried it and initially lost my throttle altogether as I hadn't noticed that the trim was all in. Once centred it worked like a charm. Thanks.
Thanks for the video, had no idea about the calibration. One thing I noticed is that after first doing the calibration I thought it hadn't worked. But then I zeroed all my trims and checked the monitor and it was perfect. If mentioned in the video I had just missed it.
I must admit I did forget that but but glad you are OK with it. This is info that they don't want people to know I think. I found out by experimenting because my DX6 was miles out, so thought I would share it for free :-)
Hi , great video thanks so much ... Question throttle in dead center position will still get full throttle traveling on airplanes or this way is for 3d helicopter ? Thanks
Thank you very much for this video ! Very useful !!! I can´t understand that Horizon did not printed this calibration procedure in the manual those days. By the way, did some of you guys noticed that a checksum of the ROM and a Firmware-Date is displayed for a second or two after you use the special key combination and then disappears after you let go those two trim buttons, then the calibration menu is displayed. Might be helpful too for some of us to know how old the firmware is. Mine displays something from 2013...
Do you have to calibrate every model nimber? Because in my situation model number 3 is not calibrated, the 4 channels are not centered and when i ON my tx with the procedure, the number is not displayed instead and when i put the flaf switch to 1 the TAER and numbers will display! weared?
Great video but I have a question. I am using this DX6 controller to drive an electric cart I made.I use the aileron control on the right to steer it left and right. I move it to the left and the cart goes to the left. How can I change the orientation so when I push it left it goes right?
Simple, there is, in the main menu an option to reverse the control, if no luck then get a servo reverser they are cheap as chips. Good luck. Here -- www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00QISJQBC/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B00QISJQBC&linkCode=as2&tag=multibladehel-20
Great Video. i tried the first time to set mine up and it was not doing like yours. i got to looking around and found my TH Hold switch was loose and it was backwards . i turned it around , and it went back thru the video and it was spot on .. thank you
This was really educational and ill keep it in my tool box for other flights . Can you tell me how to change the stick config as the right stick when moved to the right would make my delta wing go down move right and it would go up or flare push it up and it turns right down left. and this is the reason i have not flown yet. I want the right stick up make the plane go down back up left left and right go right can you video a responce please?
Followed exactly ... Worked great, thank you.... It still doesn't make me able to pilot my new quad too well .... Ah, well - practice makes perfect !..
hello there. i tried to calibrate my dx61 but when i switch the th hold to 1 and the rest on 0, when i switch the tx on while the trims are pushed towards the inside, the monitor shows *-*-*-tr hold-*-*-* and beems intermittently. it doesnt show what your video shows with all the numbers. thanks
Topvideos1001 Finally managed to sort it after trying loads of times like you mention in video . . .I just used the black buttons with red arrows each side.. .Great video and have enjoyed other videos of yours
I noticed that after you calibrated it and then turned on the Radio, your digital trim on your RUDDER channel was not centred... you then entered your Monitor and all 4 Stick Channels were set to centre.... should Users make sure all Digital Trims are set to "Centre" before Stick Calibration...?
+Topvideos1001 I was wondering if you were aware that your RUDD trim was not Centred when you calibrated the sticks..... you can clearly see the digital trim is not center when you show the results on the Monitor, and it's all aligned without the RUDD trim centre at the 5:16 mark.....
The video was done with lots of editing, so it may have been "an add on video clip" to make the video work. I did about 3 takes and stitched them all together. But the sequence is still the same.
When I turned on my radio with the two trim switched held as shown,my radio screen just went blank.I did the cal anyways and it still seemed to work.Weird!
hi i did this in my DX6i everything set to zero except the rudder. that is still almost all the way to the left. when i push left, it goes near the middle. when i push right, it hardly moves at all. Can you help? thanks
Is this done prior to setting up a model and binding? Or do all that first then check? My remote is brand new, I haven't even turned it on yet along with my E Flite Timber. I have not binded yet or set up a model.
Does this apply to all saved models in radio or just the one selected? In other words, do we need to repeat 10 times or just one? Thanks, excellent tip by the way.
Followed the instructions on your video and the arrows lined up except the ele which is little more than halfway to the left of center. When I move the stick it only moves abit to the right then stops. Any ideas. Thanks for any help.
Thank you very much, I remember when I bought my HK-500GT. I never read the manual for the DX6i. All were on power. I do not know which button I hooked on and the helicopter began to turn in full speed. it made me so scared that I never touch again this helicopter.
I got it to work. i did the calibration. 3 times and all my line does not line up. I dont know why. i followed your vid set up and another guys vid. the rudder and ail. are off by a tiny bit.. the rudder i have to use sub trim at 83 to get it to line up.. dont get it.
i followed every step but my helicopter still isnt calibrated, any tips? also how can i add the light feature? and how can i make the controllers move a little slower for the heli to react? thank you
How can I set an accessory switch? when I sart the transmitter wizard, it does not recognize any of the accesory sticks, it does recognize the gear channel but I already use that for my attitude/rate mode. Could you tell me how to set/setup an assecory stick on my Dx6I?
Maurits Veerman Easy, just go in the main menu for your choice and and click on the INH box, and that will activate the chosen switch on the screen. Download the manual here -- www.horizonhobby.com/pdf/DX6i-Manual_EN.pdf
Topvideos1001 where's the discussion tab? and what do you mean by: just go in the main menu for your choice and and click on the INH box, where is that located at?
The discussion tab is in my TH-cam channel just click on my Topvideos1001 avatar. The main menu is the set up list, on the screen. Just hit the scroll roller.
Hi, Im using a DX7 for something different, I have a mechanical limit on the knob (about 1/3 of the full movement).... Am I correct in presuming that I can "range" this motion to be recognised as full travel? I don't have the TX with me at the moment so cannot try. Thanks.
Thanks... i know how to adjust servo travel (ie 50%travel) in relation to full throw of the sticks per say..... was curious if you can get 100% servo travel from a tiny movement of the stick or knob, by "cheating" the calibration....Thanks anyway.
As I suspected. Took the transmitter apart (Plenty of videos on YT for that) Cleaned the potentiometer, re-assembled and then ran through this calibration again. Everything working fine again. Thanks again
ps Actually did not mean to offend you my comment was directed at myself ! Seems my DX6i has a fault anyway. If I move my sticks around in monitor screen the cursors move all except for the throttle cursor that stays stuck to the right hand side of the screen (Mode 2) Changed to Mode 1 & is the elevator cursor that does not move.Suspect faulty potentiometer the left hand vertical axis stick on a hardly used transmitter.Date code shows it is not due the Spektrum known fault recall. Should have stuck with Futaba but wanted a DSM2 transmitter for ARTF Blade MCPX etc. Spektrum seems poor quality to me.
WOW, I just upgraded to a DX8....the 3 1/2 years Ive been using my Dx6i..that would have been good to know....How in the world did you find this out?...maybe I havent been researching my tx's lately
Aha, hmm... I had one Spektrum DX6i Transmitter that had a MECHANICAL problem. I open it and found that the potentiometers (connected to the sticks) are mechanically bad, means, they where loosely mechanically connected to the sticks! So no wunder the arrows in the monitor jumped back and forth around the center.
Yes, but the problem with my model was, that mechanically the potentiometer was LOSLY connected to the Stick... so there was always a "gap" ... it has to be replaced.
+Topvideos1001 Thank you for the reply, my DX6 didn't work that way, it is out a little bit but I'll get it handled, thank you very much for the help. This video did help a lot anyway, much appreciated.
Hi, thankyou for your upload, Ive been having trouble with my DX6i in that the Aileron on the monitor menu is moving randomly and thought i'd give your video guide a go, unfortunately it didnt fix my issue and believe it to be the 'pot' thats at fault? Would you be able to help confirm this is the issue? Many Thanks Dave
All sorted now guys, thx for your replys tho, I ended up takin it apart myself and cleaning the Aileron Pot....works a treat now an no more glitch in flights :D
Yea I must agree a great video and something a lot off people might not realise. I checked mine a few weeks ago and they were slightly off so this video really helped me a lot to check to see if they were correct plus to also get them set perfectly once I knew they were slightly off so great vid all round and a massive thanks as it's worked a treat and helped me get my settings perfect. Nice one bud really appreciate the help!!!!! :)
just got my DX6i can this be done with out binding to a model ?. . . tried and got some information appear that was not mentioned in your video ... . it says "read down to range 000 to 323 204 221 230 230"
Hi Jacky, you do not need to be bound to any model because it is a Tx calibration. I have not come across the down to range bit before but I will investigate :-)
Topvideos1001 turns out it comes when you turn the ELev switch on . . tried a few times to get everything level and still dont work . . throttle and ele are ok just need to sort Ail and rudder . . also whats CH5 for ?
Great explanation! Just a quibble, not a strong criticism, though. In my opinion, it is not really "quite simple", it is more "rather straightforward". Quite simple is operating at most 2 switches, not holding trim tabs while turning on, and running 2 runs for the high and low sides.. Straightforward is what this is, a series of steps that border on complex, but nontheless achievable as long as you follow directions.
Yeah, maybe. I had a physics professor use the term "rather straightforward" to describe stuff like Einstein's Field equations. It became a joke in our class that "straightforward" was code for "mind-bogglingly complex". But he never said they were "simple".
Great video, But having problems. I can't get my TX to zero out!!! I followed your video to the letter but no luck. Do I have a bad TX??? PLS HELP, Mike----T-rex 500
My Friend has a DX8, and he had a plastic part broken insude, so he took it apart and fixed it. Now whenever he turns the DX8 on, he is greeted with the Calibration screen, but he can't calibrate it... The '??' don't disappear and show 'OK', he is stuck with the two questionsmarks. Does anybody have an idea what this is and how ti fix it?
+muh1h1 I have not ever had a DX8, so cant help you very sorry, but but don't forget this type of Tx is a computer based Transmitter so make sure all connections have not been compromised.
Topvideos1001 That was my first thought too, i expected that he had forgotten to conntect one of the potis back up, so i have taken it apart myself. Unfortunatly everything was connected as it is supposed to be. Still he is always greeted with the calibration screen, and even if he exits it, it comes back after a reboot. The sticks don't function as far as i know.
Topvideos1001 A mechanical part which caused the right stick not to spring back up again after being pushed down. He fixed it very well though with some glue and a piece of a nail.
Très bien, bien expliqué et images très belles... Merci pour le travail... JC

mine did not go to that menu with all the positions set to zero and holding the two switches in.
Wow! This is new to me as well. Will check and get back. Thanks a ton!

Would this work for a JR transmitter? My throttle stick moves OK but the arrow does not always move in time with the stick.
Thanks.
You only do the Gyro Switch On/Off *once* after the first procedure? not once after each procedure?
Thanks for helping and big salute from India ......
Can't you just use trim buttons to get the arrows on the centre?
Awesome video love ...how do you put backlights in the DX6i pls
My backlighting is so dim. How did you get your so bright?
This was really educational and ill keep it in my tool box for other flights .

Found the problem, I had to select model two that didn't have anything setup on that channel. Everything is good Thanks, enjoyed your video
Glad you are sorted out, cheers for the compliment :-)
Does this calibrate for all models or just the one that is loaded at the time?
Love the back light feature as well.
Did that myself ;-)

Bravo. Followed procedure and everything in the center.
I noticed that after you calibrated it and then turned on the Radio, your digital trim on your RUDDER channel was not centred... you then entered your Monitor and all 4 Stick Channels were set to centre.... should Users make sure all Digital Trims are set to "Centre" before Stick Calibration...?
Yes zero everything.
okies... I just noticed that your Rudder Trim wasn't centred and the Monitor showed all 4 primary channels were aligned....
The rudder trim was out of line, but after celebration it came in line with all the other parameters.
To be honest I am not sure what you mean.
+Topvideos1001
I was wondering if you were aware that your RUDD trim was not Centred when you calibrated the sticks..... you can clearly see the digital trim is not center when you show the results on the Monitor, and it's all aligned without the RUDD trim centre at the 5:16 mark.....

How did you find out how to do this?
I have followed the calibration procedure all sticks seam to be centred in the monitor screen accept the elevator. can you please help. thank you.
Did you centre all sub trims first ?
Thank you Sir
I'm fixing a bunch of them and this one is not doing anything
Great info. I would be lost without it. Thanks a bunch.

hi
i did this in my DX6i everything set to zero except the rudder. that is still almost all the way to the left. when i push left, it goes near the middle. when i push right, it hardly moves at all.

Check it first, but it makes no difference really.
Hello sir. It does not work on mine dx6i. I follow the video step by step but the arrows always on the same spot. Quite off centre. Any idea?
I know this is super old...but we’re your trims neutral?
Just tried this my Aileron and Elevator still dont go to the center>?
Does this apply to all saved models in radio or just the one selected? In other words, do we need to repeat 10 times or just one? Thanks, excellent tip by the way.
Tom McCaffrey No it resets all.
Great tutorial . Clear and well done. Thank you.
Thank you very much :-)
Followed the instructions on your video and the arrows lined up except the ele which is little more than halfway to the left of center. When I move the stick it only moves abit to the right then stops. Any ideas. Thanks for any help.
Mike Gaines Was the ele out before you started the calibration.
I go thru all the setup and the ail is still at the right hand side
Thank you very much, I remember when I bought my HK-500GT. I never read the manual for the DX6i. All were on power. I do not know which button I hooked on and the helicopter began to turn in full speed. it made me so scared that I never touch again this helicopter.
This calibration is not in the manual.
Tells me to need alter the trims
Any reason why the bottom left number reads in the 80's on your controller but mine reads in the low 20's?
Where in mins on the video ?
I turn it on like you do with the trims pointed inwards and i cant get to that first screen
+raskco09
Did you put the Throttle hold /mix Switch to on? (Because this opens the memory) and all the others to OFF! before you started ????
I got it to work. i did the calibration. 3 times and all my line does not line up. I dont know why. i followed your vid set up and another guys vid. the rudder and ail. are off by a tiny bit.. the rudder i have to use sub trim at 83 to get it to line up.. dont get it.
Is the calibration important for quad-copter as well?
Yes very much so, and Helicopters as they are both more sensitive to small errors.
Great video, Will be ordering soon a DX6i , these instructions also work on the Hobby King Orange T6 transmitter.
I don't know about the Orange Tx so cant say, I have never seen one sorry.
Most excellent instruction!!! Even a beginner like me can follow...many thanks!

+Chase H.
My pleasure glad to help out :-)
When I switch on with the two trims held towards the centre my screen goes dark, no numbers visible? Any ideas?
Whoops, one of the switches wasn't on zero, ok now.
an important thing to note or this will not work right. you need to have a linear throttle curve set. 0-25-50-75-100
Is the throttle stick on this TX ratcheted? Thanks
Yes it is :-)
i followed every step but my helicopter still isnt calibrated, any tips? also how can i add the light feature? and how can i make the controllers move a little slower for the heli to react?
thank you
Make your D/R lower and add EXPO to make your heli LESS responsive.
How can I set an accessory switch? when I sart the transmitter wizard, it does not recognize any of the accesory sticks, it does recognize the gear channel but I already use that for my attitude/rate mode. Could you tell me how to set/setup an assecory stick on my Dx6I?

There is a function that you can access to add servo travel in the menu.

Well done, been bugging me for a while. All good now. Thanks mate.
I followed your video 3 times and my THR, AIL and ELE are still off center.. Do I have to put all my settings to factory default before I do it?
No, just make sure the sub trims are at zero.
It worked fine, but I think I have a sticky Aileron pot. I will take the back off ans blow out the pot. and try again. Many thanks
As I suspected. Took the transmitter apart (Plenty of videos on YT for that) Cleaned the potentiometer, re-assembled and then ran through this calibration again. Everything working fine again. Thanks again

I’ve done this five times following the video to the letter and there has been absolutely no change...
my sticks r still out , rud one can you help thanks
All I can is, try again, it is all about getting it spot on.
just got my DX6i can this be done with out binding to a model ?. . . tried and got some information appear that was not mentioned in your video ... . it says
"read down to
range 000 to 323
204 221 230 230"
Hi Jacky, you do not need to be bound to any model because it is a Tx calibration.
I have not come across the down to range bit before but I will investigate :-)
Topvideos1001 Thanks be nice to know why i get it and you dont. Reason mentioned about binding is because model and rx are in post

Hmmm, will this screen come up after you push the two trim buttons together ?
yes but not straight away get all the numbers 1st like in video then that message appears when moving the control sticks
Topvideos1001 turns out it comes when you turn the ELev switch on . . tried a few times to get everything level and still dont work . . throttle and ele are ok just need to sort Ail and rudder . . also whats CH5 for ?
Love your videos
i dont have any AIL input. what to do?
Do you mean it is not showing on the screen ?
Topvideos1001 no its not moveing. is the potentiometer broken then?
Could be or a bad contact.
Awesome well presented video!
Amazing, thank you for this share!
Very good, and detailed video my brother. Good information to have as it just so happens I have the DX6i ;-) I will try this for sure!
Thanks for the compliment : -) Only needs doing if your settings are effecting the flight, mainly for Helicopters and Quadcopters etc.
Founder member of the pedants club I take it? lol

+muh1h1
I have not ever had a DX8, so cant help you very sorry, but but don't forget this type of Tx is a computer based Transmitter so make sure all connections have not been compromised.
Topvideos1001
That was my first thought too, i expected that he had forgotten to conntect one of the potis back up, so i have taken it apart myself. Unfortunatly everything was connected as it is supposed to be. Still he is always greeted with the calibration screen, and even if he exits it, it comes back after a reboot.
The sticks don't function as far as i know.
+muh1h1
Hmm to be honest, I would need to take a look at it myself, what actually broke inside ?
Topvideos1001
A mechanical part which caused the right stick not to spring back up again after being pushed down. He fixed it very well though with some glue and a piece of a nail.
+muh1h1
Well sounds like a repair but the problem may be with a short out, I hope the nail did not come into contact with a metal part ?
