    When I sent the DX9 board to NorthridgeFix for repair, I knew it was a long shot. The DX9 can reload its operating system from an SD card. I have the SD card. The board seems to have two microcontrollers, primary and audio, and an eeprom. I replaced the audio microcontroller and the eeprom, both of which were pooched. I was hoping that the SD read software would be in the primary microcontroller's firmware, which I did not replace, rather than in the eeprom. I just got the board back and I was wrong. The primary's bootloader can't read the SD card by itself. It keeps cycling trying to read the eeprom for how to read the SD card. I was afraid of that. Meh. I've still got another DX9 in perfect condition, and all my new models are on my Taranis X9D anyway, so no big deal. I knew it was a long shot, and I told NorthridgeFix so. Now I've got a DX9 for spares. That'll do. NorthridgeFix did an excellent job replacing the chips exactly as I requested. For that I thank them. Well done.

    STM32 is a microcontroller, after replacing it, you must reflash its firmware. Also there could be some configurations and saved data on the SPI flash memory (the 8 pins chip) which should be written back

    The STM32 requires a bootloader. A bootloader is required to load firmware to the device. Simply replacing the chips will not result in a working device unless they have been programmed. Hopefully the customer knows how to flash the bootloader to the device and has access to the required pins through a header of some sort.

    • @triplexdread
      @triplexdread ปีที่แล้ว

      It may have already been flashed

    • @arlemooldijk1595
      @arlemooldijk1595 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The STM32 probably has the STM32 default bootloader, which should enable flashing of a Spektrum bootloader followed by a flash of the Spektrum operating system. At least, that is how it generally works. There are STM32 flashing programs available to flash it. You would just need the firmware files. Installing Zadig might be required to be able to talk to the STM32 chip, that is when there is a USB connection available... If not, flashing through JTAG is probably required.

    "What's that gooey stuff". As an electronics repair tech myself, I find it very disturbing how some people out there attempt electronics repairs without the basic knowledge of solder, flux, and electricity. I used to repair TV's, and I still remember when a customer brought me a tv after a failed repair attempt by his neighbour. When I opened the tv and examined the power board, the electrolyte capacitors were replaced backwards and luckily the two legs of capacitors were soldered together which prevented them from exploding. Wow.
    Btw, I very much enjoy watching Alex's common sense approach to repairs.

    If "everything worked fine but the sound" then I would probably go straight to checking the speaker then work my way backwards through the preamp/amp/dac circuit that is driving it. These are low frequency audio signals, easy to check even with the cheapest $20 kit scope. Replacing micros and eeproms would be the last thing I would do as I don't know if I could even dump them or find the firmware/bootloader online. Not blaming Alex, he's just doing what he was asked.
