Left 4 Dead 2 is a 2008 first-person shooter game developed by Valve South and published by Valve. Set during the aftermath of a zombie outbreak on the East Coast of the United States, the game pits its four protagonists, dubbed the "Survivors", against hordes of the infected.

@@LionmightOfficial nice
@@LionmightOfficial YES and just the thank theme from L4D and L4D2 they are the same but different like some of the other songs you have compared already. keep up the great videos!!!!

I honestly wasn't expecting that much banjo to appear in a zombie game, but it works.
cuz Left 4 dead 2 is on the South
Fair point.

On the "Dead easy" is like you die in peace, but in middle of the song. your dead body reanimated into a living undead zombies.
never throught it in that way that's amazing
the calm before the storm
Fun fact, the "zombies" in left 4 dead aren't proper zombies. They are not undead. It's like a rabies mutation
@@derekfurst6233 yeah, they are Just normal people with animalistic behavior
@@derekfurst6233 It also isn't spread through bites or blood but nearby contact. The playable characters are not immune but what the military calls "carriers". Once you have come into nearby contact with any infected, you are infected and can spread it just by being in proximity. Carriers just don't show the symptoms of being infected. That's why all of their rescuers have become infected... Except Virgil, he's probably also a carrier.
I would love to see your reactions to all the horde themes, they're my favorite parts of the l4d soundtrack

Fun fact, Monsters Within is the end credits theme when you escape at the end of a campaign. Horror version of a victory song basically lol
The sound in 16:51 is when you get down and surrounded by zombies they edit it with the music when you're on the spitter acid so there are 2 theme, in one
Sort of right.
That music plays when you're down/incapacitated, and the music just before it is when you're near to a Spitter acid but not inside it.
Nah when your inside it all you hear is “I got hit by burning goo shit”
@@Xenorvya Also inside of it, but it's hard to hear due to the sound of the spit damaging you and the voicelines.
16:02 that is the sound of player death in game, you are incapacitated and awaiting a player to get you up, like a bleed out. the piano specifcally is the death moment.
"That was a cool cuphead song." 1:52
Lmao
😎
@@LionmightOfficial have you heard the horde themes?
"I'd imagine this has a boglike setting with acid rivers and all that"
Boi, you just mentioned the entire Swamp Fever campaign, although fitting,.
"Hey what was the name of that bear character they added to smash bros?" 3:53
LOL that's so funny
The thing i love most about the Dead Easy track, is that whenever i try to use my imagination, i think of the same scenario:
The remains of the city are overrun by zombies and a bunch of them that were part of a parade and once were sticking to the ground begin to rise with the instruments they have gotten stuck with, and with that, i always picture a smoker with a parade uniform and trumpet stuck on his mutated tongue proceeding to give off the best solo you can get from a decaying city. And i LIVE for that vision!!
Best part of the game ost - music can clearly transfer to you good information (what type of special enemy spawned for example) in such ~4 notes
valve's approach to game development with their constant playtesting may cause their games to take a long time to release, but damn if it doesnt also help them create some of the most fine-tuned and well designed video games of all time. they just know how to make a good, fun game, and they've still got it with deadlock.
good sir! I just wanted to say that I really appreciate your videos! the reactions and breaking down of the music is really nice and genuine! and you also give me something to watch while I eat food!
Carry on!
I appreciate that!
If you listen closely at 12:40, you can hear a little bit of the l4d1 monsters within. Since they are practically the same theme
I'm still eagerly awaiting for the reactions to the Special Infected attack themes. I would also recommend you look at a picture of each infected with each of their themes just to get an idea of the infected responsible in each attack
Smoker with Tongue-tied and Asphyxiation
Hunter with Exenteration
Charger with Mortification
Spitter with Enzymicide
Jockey with Vassalation
Boomer with Pukricide (who does have the shortest theme)
Can't beat that ost man
Absolutely!
@@WowSuchGaming holy crap wow such gaming I used to watch all your lfd videos and zombie sins ❤
Hello funny zombie man ✌🏻
I'll be honest, not many people can appreciate L4D1/2's OST
every time I hear the death song, I feel empty-shallow in my self
Wtf does this mean? Who doesn't appreciate it? Have you seen the 97% review score on Steam? I'm sure almost all of them appreciated the music.
What? I'm sorry, but L4D isn't your niche tiny interest that only a select few people enjoy and understand. Many people love the soundtrack
I'm pretty sure Left 4 Dead as a whole is appreciated, MOST NOTABLY the soundtracks.
It is a shame that they choose these songs to be reviewed..
Except "the monsters within" the choices were so poor.
There are so many soundtracks that curl your nails way better.
So happy your continuing to listen to the Left 4 Dead soundtrack!!
Glad you got to hear more of the L4D OST!!
I love that even you don't know much about the games, you can explain context through the music and be correct about a lot!

The zombie band plays the game theme as well which I just noticed.
Ahha so cool
@@surfinboy23 you mean the music in the main menu
@@JackBasciono At 2:38 the band while slowly working up to the rhythm they play the theme very slowly.
13:20 l4d2 does take place in the South east of the US were the objective is to reach New Orleans as its the last holdout of the military. (Sadly we don't know what happened to them, but some speculate they pretty much died due to the environmental Story telling The Parish had) but its a great observation non the less that you got it all from the music. I do enjoy these videos and I have officially reached 1k play time on l4d2 and have been playing it again recently as well.
15:07 is actually the Spitter theme for those caught in the acid pile she spits onto the ground. (Just wanted to add this, the Spitter is a menace when playing on custom servers.)
They did survive considering the Pilots asked if Papa Gators Helicopter is able to carry Carriers which he can so at best they definitely postponed the bombing on purpose as it feels like the Military wants to get those Carriers in order to research the infection further which can be likely especially if they were to set up stations in the Gulf of Mexico via Ships.
@@williamethandedios7151 In the saferoom there is grafitti that says that the military is rounding up/ luring carriers to kill them
@@koletok4646 True but by the time the 4 arrived, it would be pretty stupid of the military to just rescue 4 possible carriers and shoot them for dead rather than say not rescue them and just go with the bombing.
@@williamethandedios7151 The military didnt really do shit for them. They just waited a few extra minutes to give them the opportunity to get to the helicopter which was leaving anyway. Who knows maybe they experimented on them or smtn, but I doubt they just let them be after all the proof that the military is actively looking to kill carriers.
Watching someone nerd out so hard about the music in one of my favorite games is an absolute treat. I've adored L4Ds immersive soundtrack but could never put into words why that is, having you dissect it with such passion its just wonderful.
Another thing, when you mentioned "anxiety" and a "time pressure" during the spitter soundtrack (Pile of Bile) I was amazed how you hit the nail on the head once again. Plus the mentioning of a clock sound was something I've never picked up on. Awesome video, excited for more.
15:03
After looking at the files i found that the creator of that channel mixed
2 soundtrack into 1
Pile of bile is the first part while puddle of you is the second which goes BAM BAM.
First one represent a puddle of acid and second one represent you being knocked on ground bleeding
Pretty good and fitting name huh.
Never clicked on a video faster. I love me some L4d content.
16:10 that short music is for a downed survivor, thats the first part, the second part where the piano its smashed is when the survivor died, its like "oh nooo!!!! he's dead i cant believe it!!!"
I'd love to hear his reaction to the OST for "Project Zomboid" - it has a similar modern take on some southern sounds like Banjos - and it transitions between an ambience or orchestic music to a high-energy almost rock or industrial type - all to hit that sort of horror aesthetic for the zombie apocalypse that L4D2 also was hitting. If I had to recommend a few of their many many tracks (and variations of tracks for low or high threat), I'd say "Theme Remix" (it's the new version of the main menu theme they first used like a decade ago), "Holding out Hope", "Keep Moving", "Maybe We Can Win This", "They Were Once Here", "Touch and Go", and "Surrounded."
Since the game is based in Kentucky you'll hear more of the banjo and maybe less jazz. I'm thoroughly impressed with it, as I've been following the game since maybe 2013, and the music artist (Zach Beever) they had on board was only 16 years old when he started writing music for this game, getting into this as a hobby and trying to turn it into a job. He's incredibly talented.
i’d really want to hear what he’d have to say about “gear up”
every level has its own begining jingle, aswell as its own horde theme, the final level, "the parish" takes place in new orleans hence the marching band tone, other levels like "dark carnival" feature the same jingle, but with much different instruments
So how I will describe both L4D1 and L4D2 is by. L4D1 it’s the start of the apocalypse and the fear and terror that it brings contributes to the sound tracks and campaigns. But on L4D2 is that it brings “revenge” fight back type OST which is why this game beings a special place in my heart. Love the OST of both games
Having the context around some of these songs really takes me back and lets me appreciate the terror that is Left 4 Dead 1 and 2. Like it's easy to forget that it's a horror game with 3 buddies screaming at one another; but the music really works hard to not only tell you a story; but give you audio updates and warnings about the stage and some hazards (Like every special infected having a jingle to warn you before you get caught off guard.)
i have no idea about making music or its instruments but i really enjoy watching you reviewing l4d1/2 soundtracks, its so chill and cool 🎶
keep it going! 🎵
16:35 he guessed the incapacitated theme
The thing I always absolutely loved about those piano hits is how, in game, it's combined with your approaching death. You fall down, the sound and music both fade and you end up just waiting for someone to help you up while you fight off zombies with your pistol as best you can while they beat you up. It's terrifying and that piano hit is the *perfect* sound to convey that emotion.
Wait.. *they smashed the inside of a piano (or possibly more)* for "Pile of Bile, Puddle of You"? That's friggen metal. I love the results as much as you did, they were so jarring but in a good way. I envisioned the piano smashing sounds as the last few strong defiant beats of a dying heart.
Dead easy is the Paris campaign theme, all campaign have the same banjo thing in the end
I don't know where "dead easy" come from, first time hearing the name
Because composers like to give proper song names when included in the soundtrack.
Probably a take on New Orleans' nickname, "the Big Easy"
Dead Easy was used in the E3 trailer for the second game
Maybe its from the phrase "rest easy" and rest got swapped for dead.
10:00 playing it yourself was impressive had to like the video after that one well deserved
Perfect way to wind down my stressful school day :) Thanks!
You HAVE to do the Bully soundtrack next, it's been my absolute favourite from any game since childhood
I always seem to always perfectly time coming to your account whenever you post something I’d love, such as these valve game music reactions
Love these reactions man, first watched your tf2 ones back in October. Helped me through a rough time, but since then, it’s always become a pleasure to see you discover different music. Love your genuine enthusiasm.
15:30 fun fact, that's the sound that plays when you go down
Mike Morasky is a musical genius. His music along with Kelly Bailey are masterpieces.
had no idea how creatively they made all this music! that bit about hammering the piano strings is wild to me! happy to learn from your amazing insight!
15:21 this is also the sound that plays in the game when someone dies
4:46 It's almost like the music is being re-animated. Full circle with the zombie theming. 7:29 I like to think this part cuts to the more realistic scene of the infection. From cartoony to realism.
Dead Easy is far more intricate than I first realized. In game it's a lot more subdued and quiet. But once you hear it isolated, it sounds so brilliant.
Catching the bog setting is crazy!
Love it. L4D2 was amazing not only the gameplay but music. Sometimes relaxing
The best part of the soundtracks for both games are the special infected themes (Witch, Pile of Bile), because they perfectly encapsulate each special infected in a short motif that you should be able to recognise in the middle of gameplay. All of the characters will call out if they see a Jockey or Hunter, but you will hear their theme music and know what you're up against.
I speak for all of mine who were left 4 dead anytime I hear any of these tracks it brings goosebumps…… that’s aura!
I feel like you should look at which places the songs appear within the game, a lot of context can be drawn from it and it certainly elevates the appreciation for the music design
You understand music so passionately. The emotions you feel are infectious. Thank you for showcasing Left 4 Dead's amazing OST.
Oh sweet, another L4D video! Time to provide some context for the songs again, for anyone not familiar with the game:
"The Saints Will Never Come" is one of the songs that can play when interacting with a jukebox (Which plays vinyl discs in-game). It's pretty much just an ambient detail that helps make the world feel more alive and interactable. (The other songs that can play are "RE: Your brains", "One Bad Man", "Midnight Ride", "Save Me Some Sugar", "All I Want for Christmas", and Portal's "Still Alive")
"Dead Easy" is the intro theme for the campaign "The Parish", which takes place in the overrun city of New Orleans, amidst military bombings. The survivors are trying to fight their way to a distant bridge, hoping to catch the retreating military and finally escape the infected for good. It's the final campaign in the game's story.
"The Monsters Within" is the track that plays when the survivors have finished the campaign and escaped, synced to the stats appearing (Which are stylized to look like movie credits). You can think of it as a victory theme or celebration track. I especially like the tone shift becoming more ominous and dark halfway, really leaning into the whole "We are safe... but for how long?" theme of the game.
"Pile of bile" plays for the Spitter's acid. It's a female special infected that spews corrosive stomach acid at the survivors, which damages them if they stand inside of it.
"Puddle of you", on the other hand, plays when a survivor is incapacitated and close to bleeding out.
Looking forward to the next video!
The "smashing piano" bit is used when a survivor looses their health and goes into a downed state, where they can still shoot their secondary weapon but need help of a teammate to get back up.
Once a survivor has about 1/4 of their health left while down, the music builds up to create much more tension and pressure and tells you that you do not have much time left.
Once a survivor dies, the sound of the smashing of the piano plays two times and then... silence.
This is from the perspective of the dying survivor, other surviors hear a more muffled version in their perspective.
Its the same system in Left 4 Dead but they did that by slamming the keys of the piano instead of hammering the pianostrings.
The amount of detail in the music in this game is just insane.
Came across the L4D1 vid, was immediately captivated with the violin playing. I know that in L4D2 there's a handful of different variations on the same motif, and was wondering when you'd cover it. Didn't have to wait long! Love the video 🎻
Best part of this entire ost is the dynamic chase themes and the chaos that happens during the gameplay
on the BIle sound track, i didnt expected you to point out that much sounds i hadnt noticed and apreciated. You just immediately read them all on the first time listen, a true musician.
You should give the l4d2 teammate hit sounds a listen, they're like sampled versions of the tracks for when your teammates are hearing the tracks themselves... usually being torn apart while they're at it
Subscribed since it seems fun to appreciate music/sounds of games
What a beautiful play from lion might at 10:06
as always I love your comments in each soundtrack in l4d2 and l4d
What I love about the monsters within is that it’s shows hey you escaped! Rock and roll as you hear the music

Dead Easy is a play on a name for New Orleans. The Big Easy. Song if i recall plays in the opening for the campaign The Parish. Another fun fact for those who dont know, parish what we call our counties, and here is quite clear they are going for the idea of perish alongside the name.
That "Piano hammering sound" Used for when you fall down and wait for your friends help to get up while dying. The last "smash sound" İs your funeral.
Dead Easy is one of my favorite tracks from L4D2.
The last sound you hear in the song "pile of bile puddle of you" is not actually part of the song but this does play when your character is incapacitated from the infected and you lay in a pile of blood till you get rescued or die
Each map has its own beginning music that represents the essence of that campaign. The jazz-type music you heard represents the last map known as The Parish. The context of that map is a city where the apocalypse began in a season like a festival/carnival, hence the characteristic instruments: trumpet, drums, etc. After that beginning comes the representative music of the game, which is the banjo part. It will always be after the representative beginning of the map.
maan, this guy just predicts or identifies and tell where sounds are beingmostly used and they're actually being used in the game.
he knows his music damn well
love your content man keep it up
16:38 Hey guys I don't want to die, too late
you finally got back to this
You should give "Clinging to Hell" a listen, it plays when you are hanging off a ledge that's too high up, it intensifies as they loose their grip
I love watching you react to the soundtrack of this game. It’s my favorite, the sound design in this game is amazing in the way it includes its soundtrack.
All these videos on L4D made me redownload the games! Great videos, whenever I watch videos of yours i try to listen the songs I listen in a less “auto-pilot” way lol 😅
I love how much appreciated the sound track is cuz the game play can over look some of the sound but the music that you can hear is so great the monster within is when you win the game it’s so great
11:00 the both tracks are for when you finish a level and are loading into the next one. Shows your stats and stuff. L4d 1 takes place in the city and l4d2 takes place in the Louisiana swamps
9:59 Wow dood! That was just amazing 🤘🔥!
Omg?!?!!! The clock implication on the spitter acid song/sound?! What an incredible observation. From game context you want to get out of the pool of acid as fast as possible (obviously), but wow your comment about how the sound is reminiscent of a clock ticking and how that instills anxiety is just *chef’s kiss* wow wow wow
I especially love the way the trumpet plays the L4D theme throughout all of Dead Easy, it does a really good job drawing attention to itself and being cohesive with the rest of the band, despite having a set of notes that really doesn't mesh with the key signature
Gotta listen to the Midnight Riders next! They are the band in L4d2. And if I'm right it was just some of the workers of Valve who did it and they did an AMAZING JOB. Will forever love all the L4d music and the game. It's been 16 years now and I still want a third game and to listen to a new Midnight Riders album ; ^ ;
3:39 the helicopter is here Finally
Mike Morasky was way ahead of his time and still Left 4 Dead are just one of those games that are just perfect in every aspect.
Absolutely awesome, there's just something in the expression of this man, I love it
I used to listen to l4d2 soundtrack/bgm in highschool to calm my nerves lol even listened to the voicelines because i was addicted to the game, playing the game in my head. Pretty sure i had my first crush in the game too, some random guy who was really good at the game
You may find the Silent Hill 2 soundtrack interesting. Its got a crazy amount of variety, and that remake is coming out soon.
Honestly seeing you react to the Left 4 Dead 2 soundtrack makes me feel better than ever. I wish you would react to the game's menu themes.
7:30 this part of the song makes me think that the song is saying its reminiscing about the past only to be snapped out of it and back into the now. A Zombie Wasteland.
As a l4d2 player of thousands of hours. Dead Easy is hauntingly comforting, the start symbolizes the fact that the survivors are safe in the saferoom but only for the moment, though they still have the ability to view the world burning from inside it, very melancholic vibe. For a player you genuinely feel comfort in the saferoom, you're full HP (or close to it) and fully reloaded. The second half to me symbolizes the "time to get moving" portion of that scenario.
thank you for making another left for dead 2 video, love the content!
You've gotta react to the music of when the special infected are attacking and when they are lurking about.
it would be really interesting to see your reaction to the community side of valve games, sourcemods. there's quite a few like Pirates Vikings and Knights II, No More Room in Hell, Zombie Panic, Alien Swarm... the list goes on
they are all unique in a way which is impressive, considering it's the community doing what they can with archaic dev tools, limited engine access and talent
Amen to that, esp PVK2
I'm really curious on your reaction to the mafia 2 sound track, but can I say that I like it when you add your own violin part with each song, they are great
Hello, I know this is not your most recent video, but I've been loving your analysis of certain video game OSTs. In that regard, I would like to recommend one game with an OST I hold dear to my heart: Civilization 6. A goldmine of OSTs that feature songs from countries and, well, civilizations all throughout history, adding certain changes to reflect the different time periods you go through during the game (Going from Ancient, to Medieval, to Industrial, and finally to Atomic).
It's a VERY long OST, but if you want to give it a shot, you could start with the main theme of the game, Sogno Di Volare.
I really want you to react to all left 4 dead 2 campaigns intros and you not gonna believe it would be so interesting to you.
Am I playing The Parish campaing?
A reaction to HL2s ost would be awesome. Its a great mix of action tracks and ambience. I think youd enjoy it.
That piano smash is classic 😂
A lot of the instrumental dissonance in the tracks always manifested in my mind as the infected crying, struggling to breath, gurgling blood or screaming. I think it helps highlight the severity of the situation and the rapid onset of the infection as the game only takes place roughly 2 weeks after initial infection. A once happy city, town or neighborhood reduced to a hellish nightmare or, as you called it a parade for a dead man.
