Payday 2 Music is usually separated into sections based on the intensity of the current game. You might as well just watch the entire playlist, the soundtrack just is that good. :) The way the soundtracks are designed, they often start off with the "Stealth" phase, followed by the "Control" phase (when it's transitioning from stealth to loud) then the quick "Anticipation" phase kicks in before it finally leads over to the "Assault" phase when the swat team finally arrived.
Hot Pursuit was actually made for the Hotline Miami heist that they have collaborated with, They even have one of the main HM characters as a playable character when HM2 came out.
You _may_ have seen all the other comments about how tracks are divided into Stealth/Control/Assault (with Anticipation and Fade being the intro and outro to Assault), so I'll add some trivia: Simon explained that composing for Payday is quite challenging as you basically have to make 3 tracks in one + actually implementing the differents loops in the game and having it sounds good was tricky. Make sure to listen to the full track, as one labelled (assault) are just that loop. While the most important you could be missing on some gems for stealth tracks ( _Shadows And Trickery_ as well as _Utter Chaos_ comes to mind). Songs labelled with a year are remixes of tracks from the first game, so feel free to also listen to the originals as they are also technically part of the second game's soundtrack. Finally, at some point Simon decided to mix it up, so the control/stealth part comes after the assault in the official arrangements for a couple tracks.
If there's a bunch of songs I could suggest if you're interested in checking more of the OST out: Payback Roulette On the Road Donacdum Break the Rules Ode to Greed The Gauntlet Backstab Gun Metal Grey 2015 Stone Cold 2017 Mr Purple Bonebreaker I know this is a pretty long list, but the whole OST is just phenomenal.
The music needs to be loopable, so each song is divided into [optional]( stealth and then detected part next is troops incoming) then is preparing for assault, the assault and break between assaout. Thats why some tracks are shorter, because in those heists you can't go stealthy, so it is just the assault parts.
Without going into the in-game reasons behind it, almost every song in the Payday 2 OST has a set progression of the tone of the songs. They typically have 4-5 different tones throughout the song and it frankly gives each and every song a very good flow/pacing, making it an overall very enjoyable listening experience without any game context. This is why I love the composer, Simon Viklund.
I haven't played this game in forever; what a nostalgia trip, I am so here for it! The music is such a fantastic complement to the gameplay, from the slower/lower tone parts of songs for Stealth to the high intensity action sequences when things get Loud. Also, nothing makes me happier than seeing someone else share the enjoyment/appreciation of something I'm so familiar with. Glad you liked it, and thanks for the break downs!
I grew up playing Payday 2 and having a professional's input on what makes these songs so incredible after all these years is very valuable to me, keep up the great work!
I only check it if the community asks for it 1000x I'm lazy and I'd rather just play games so just tell me what y'all want me to react to, with links if possible. Use the suggestion form in the pinned comment
@@LionmightOfficial Bit late to bat, but might I suggest doing one from each Payday game? I'm submitting a suggestion form as well, but thought I'd put a comment here nonetheless. For Payday The Heist I'd personally recommend either Breach of Security or Home Invasion (originals, not the PD2 remixes) Payday 2 definitely either Full Force Forward or Evil Eye (the sister track to Hot Pursuit) with honorable mentions to Mr. Purple and Backstab (cause I forgot just how BIG the soundtrack is) Payday 3 I would say... No Rest for the Wicked or Heatwave
I have the first time hearing razormind engrained in my head, playing nightclub, late at night with my buddies, first assault wave and just before the drop we hear "alright give em hell boys" than right into it. that moment will always come back to me any time i hear it.
I am ECSTATIC you're listening to payday, my absolute favorite soundtrack within gaming, God bless Simon. Fun fact, "Hot Pursuit" is a part of the Hotline Miami collaboration the two games had ! I highly recommend you listen to the OTHER Hotline Miami soundtrack from this game, "Evil Eye", along with "Gun Metal Grey", "Payback Roulette", "Death Wish", "Death Row", and "Troubles Always Inbound", and for a song that isn't tied to a heist - "Flames Of Love"
To break the flood of trivia about the game's phases, I'll add that Hot Pursuit (as well as Evil Eye) was composed for a 2-stage mission as part of a Hotline Miami crossover, hence the extra 80's oomph.
Now that's peak content right there, you should totally give a listen to "Left in the cold", "Break the Rules", "Payback Roulette", "On the Road" and "Backstab" and "Evil Eye", i'd love to see you dissect these.
You really need to listen to the whole tracks, the build up and transitions from control to assault is such a big part of these songs. (As you can see with Razormind's buildup which would have been missed entirely if you'd listened to only the assault portion, where as you only listened to the 'action' part of I will give you my all)
Payday 2 has some of the most banger "action phase" type of songs in the industry, and a lot of them at that. Despite rather dated mechanics, its universally loved for how much fun it is to shoot hordes with these sick beats playing.
I'm seconding (or possibly fiftyith-ing) "Break the Rules" - it goes unbelievably hard, especially when you consider it was written as part of a movie tie-in DLC for a heisting video game.
some of my personal favs from this OST I may recommend -Death Wish -On The Road -The Gauntlet -Payback Roulette -Break The Rules -Gun Metal Grey 2015 -Home Invasion 2016 -Underground Lockdown
As a cello player, On The Road is a MUST its the peak of payday 2 for me, in both its final horrah and in its epicness, only rivaled by break the rules
The soundtrack for Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory by Amon Tobin is great; very groovy, classic spy stuff. "El Cargo" , "Ruthless - Reprise" , "Displaced" and "The Lighthouse" are some of my personal favs.
So happy you chose hot pursuit, easily my favorite payday 2 track If you were to do another payday episode i would reccomend 'gun metal grey 2015' , 'code silver 2018' and 'donacdum'
In game the first part of the music (the “chill” or more suspenseful part) of the music loops when you are sneaking around, but once you go “loud” (you get seen or shoot or throw a grenade, something like that) then the next 2 parts of the music play while the police get ready (control and anticipation) and then once the police start coming the beat drops (assault) so the assault version of songs are the part that loops when you are blasting a bunch of enemies. You definitely need to check out “Use of force” next btw!
when I do an intense workout this is the music that pumps my heart, combined with in ear monitors (with an unholy amount of sub-bass) it's the perfect combo, tons of fun, and inspiration from this game soundtracks, it's amazing
6:56, and if you had a shotgun aiming for headshots every time that I've read them, pop so well with those cymbal because you be popping the helmets off like if you're clashing metal on the rhythm beat
I'm so glad I've seen that video on my youtube home page ^^ I love Simon Viklund's music for pd2's ost, and I've play that game for so many hours.. the ost definitely makes the experience a thrill, such an adrenaline shot ! And it changed my appreciation of edm, electro music.. as a classical musician, I've never really enjoy these style before payday 2 ahah
LETS GO! Im a huge pd2 fan, and im glad you also gave these game's OST a listen! please create as many video parts as you can (there are thousands of payday 2 ost exists anyway) and i'll WATCH THEM ALL 🔥
SO GLAD TO HAVE FOUND THIS CHANNEL First of all your reactions are not only so transparent, but very insightful as well. Having fun with the track while recording with another instrument is a BEAST idea at the end of the video, I'd have listened to way more ! If you feel like it please react to some Payday 2 tracks ! Either way, I'll stick around for more videos :)
From the beginning of Razor mine the plan is just to keep itself and they design it to keep that Loop going if you're staying stealth 5:06 - no you're in the point where someone sent out the alarm and the police are about to roll in - 5:21 and this is when the local police comes in before the assault - 5:35 never remember this is where after clearing out the guards and some of the bags - 5:55 and the top right corner you would notice the Highlight screen will turn yellow telling that you're going to deal with endless onslaught of armored swat out cops, learning the intense beat roll out
I will say, the music in PayDay 2 is so damn good. The tempo of them gives you like an adrenaline rush or makes you wanna dance, for example it feels like Razormind is like the catalyst of encouragement from being afraid and intense to embrace the chaos. When you plan to make a sequel of these songs, a good one that makes you wanna dance or hum to would be one called Donacdum.
This was great! Would love to see a follow up with these diverse Payday 2 songs: "Evil Eye" "Dead Man's Hand" "Ode To Greed (techno remix)" "It's Payday" "And Now We Wait"
Break the Rules is arguably my favorite song from this game. sadly the lyrics don't play every time in a mission but when they do its amazing. plus its, just a love letter to the 80's action movies
Master Plan is my favorite song from Payday 2 it fits perfectly for planning a heist lol. During the planning phase: that song keeps playing in a loop when everyone is drawing random mess on the blueprints :D
Another song to add to the pile of suggestions is “And now we wait”. Seriously, despite being a stealth track, Simon viklund(the composer) has stated its by far his favorite track he made for the game.
DUDE i knew you looked familiar! I remember loving your covers of Ragnarok Online songs , especially the Poem of Bragi one hahaha, good to know youre doing great!
I am so happy to see other people enjoying the music of this amazing game. I still hear it a lot when programming, i think ive heard it thousand times and I still dont get tired of it, I love this style so much, easily my favorite soundtrack ever (specially razormind)
Glad you checked it out! If you do a second one, i would appreciate you checking out White Collar Crime specifically with it's incredible jazz construction. Its a long one that you can comfortably vibe to but there's an amazing and hilariously intense section that results in the heist turning for the worst! Break The Rules is also really good 80s empowerment! Complete with lyrics!
Honestly payday 2 probably has some of the best sound design. The most notable thing to me is how amazingly good the gunshots sound, and how they fill the sometimes empty sounding music, to make it a stressful situation.
Viklund is really good at making hype af music. You'd feel the music more in-game since it's tied to the state of alert you're currently at in-game. Love that Hot Pursuit violin btw, kinda want a full version now lol.
Bloody Marvelous! I've been waiting on this one for a long while. There are still alot of tracks to go through with Payday 2 and i hope you enjoy all of em. If you ever get to Payday 3, Sky High Resort, Diamond District and Houston Breakout are my top picks to listen to, although they are 10+ minutes long, as most tracks have a really long build up.
In Razormind if that is the song that plays during a heist, I like how the quiet part loops if you go stealthy and then the drop happens and the song goes crazy when you do the heist loud. I used to do it loud to hear the rest of the song.
And have I remember Hot Pursuit was really used a lot with this one small Mall map that you do a heist on and when you look at it you gives you that 70s Vive with everything bright and shiny even though it's small send this Rhythm fits really well because the intensity of the space
So to give a little context with razor mind that slower pace tempo is usually reserved for stealth for alot of these songs the slower more ominous tone for these songs but whenever the heist goes loud thats when it starts picking up the pace and starts reaching a crescendo of sorts
Hot Pursuit is so fun to hear and just vibe to it, I wish that one would last for like 8 min. It's like the golden era of music, back when I wasn't even born.
i dunno if you already heard it but Mark, PAYDAY from Alesso and a few songs from Le Castle Vania for Payday 2 are some of my personal favourites but one i really like above the rest is White Collar Crime which is i believe one of the few stealth only songs that are interactive with the game, the more objetives you complete the more instruments are added that gives this old jazz club vibe to every heist
You have to remember that these jams are accompanying a symphony of violence. Part of the music design, which you hear in the steady thumping bass, is to give an underlying tempo to combat. It gives a feeling of urgency and danger during the assault waves. Then the parts without that bass is used during stealth portions, pre-detection, and the break period, giving those portions more of a feeling of calm. I know this channel just looks at the music, but games like payday have such a beautiful gameplay/music interaction that can't be ignored.
Needed to include the something wicked comes this way, which is a very underrated track that never really got as much attention as whatever is name of that one track that plays on day 1 of Hoxton breakout
"Break the Rules" is definitely a must as probably everyone mentions here personal favourites as well: "Evil Eye", "Fuse Box", "Ode to Greed", "Gauntlet", "Searchlights", "Backstab", "Double Cross 2017", "8bits are scary" and "Gold Rush"
Hey, recent subscriber, and i gotta say that i love your reactions, youre very into the music and it honestly helps me get into the groove of the song. ❤
The soundtrack for this game is FIRE!🔥Simon Viklund did an awesome job! 🤘😝 These are some of my favorite songs to heist to in PD2: Razormind, Mayhem Dressed in a Suit, Master Plan, Donacdum, I Will Give You My All, and Black Yellow Moebius. There are no bad songs in the soundtrack, though.
The thing I say is when "I will give you my all" (any ver) plays it's time to book it, cook it, and don't second look it. any reason to go loud is Payday's Ost and DONACDUM with Razormind just tie all of it perfectly, to build that tense or chill situation that it has hit the fan, with the _"I got your DLC Right here!"_ moment Cause of the Cloakers and *"BULLDOZER!"* and occasionally Captain Winters. but "DeathWish" is that one song that is go time without stopping but maybe for a laugh or two.
Oh please check out on the road, a damn orchestral piece done as a celebration for the end of the games updates before its sequel, break the rules, a call back to those classic 70s esque songs and maybe pimped out getaway cause id love to see what you think of a remix of a classic christmas song hah. Anywho, excited to see payday getting some love here too!
Would love to see your reaction to some of Darktides music if interested. It's very high energy/high intensity for a hoard game like Left 4 Dead. Maybe "Disposal Unit", "Imperial Advance", or "The Transit Horde"
Payday 2's OST works like this When you start a heist you start in stealth this is the quietest and calmest part of the songs. Then when you go loud you transition to the control section of the music. Then it transitions into a 30 second build up called anticipation before dropping into the assault portion which is when the cops come. That goes on for a few minutes before a cool down part back into control where it loops. There are also stealth only heists with their own songs that build up as you progress. The best example of this is "And Now We Wait" for Shadow Raid. For Payday 3 they combined both aspects for their heist's music. For more Payday 2 songs I would recommend Break the Rules (full 8 minutes with stealth), The Gauntlet, The Mark, and Deadeye (made but Simon's successor Gustavo). Edit: and Dead Man's Hand. That one's a bop.
If you wanna check them out, I might recommend the soundtrack by Austin Wintory for the video game Journey. Some of the most affecting and heartfelt ambient music I've experienced.

FINALLY you make sure you check out the first payday soundtrack and even check out swat4 ost as well
I only check it if the community asks for it 1000x
I'm lazy and I'd rather just play games so just tell me what y'all want me to react to, with links if possible. Use the suggestion form in the pinned comment
@@LionmightOfficial you're so real for that
@@LionmightOfficial i second what this guy is saying
I third this@@masterjax7358
@@LionmightOfficial Bit late to bat, but might I suggest doing one from each Payday game? I'm submitting a suggestion form as well, but thought I'd put a comment here nonetheless.
For Payday The Heist I'd personally recommend either Breach of Security or Home Invasion (originals, not the PD2 remixes)
Payday 2 definitely either Full Force Forward or Evil Eye (the sister track to Hot Pursuit) with honorable mentions to Mr. Purple and Backstab (cause I forgot just how BIG the soundtrack is)
Payday 3 I would say...
5:45 "Alright ramblers, let's get rambling!"
Now that's peak content right there, you should totally give a listen to "Left in the cold", "Break the Rules", "Payback Roulette", "On the Road" and "Backstab" and "Evil Eye", i'd love to see you dissect these.
Great reaction! The songs are divited into phases like :
Stealth, Control, Anticipation, Assault intro loop and Assault.
Should definitely react to "This Is Our Time" from the Payday 2 OST
Absolutely love the reacts like this, not to mention my love for practically every game you’ve reviewed like cyberpunk and tf2. ❤️
I'm seconding (or possibly fiftyith-ing) "Break the Rules" - it goes unbelievably hard, especially when you consider it was written as part of a movie tie-in DLC for a heisting video game.
some of my personal favs from this OST I may recommend
-Death Wish
-On The Road
-The Gauntlet
-Payback Roulette
-Break The Rules
-Gun Metal Grey 2015
-Home Invasion 2016
-Underground Lockdown
The thing I love about Payday 2 OST that it's never in the background being drowned out by the game itself
So happy you chose hot pursuit, easily my favorite payday 2 track
If you were to do another payday episode i would reccomend 'gun metal grey 2015' , 'code silver 2018' and 'donacdum'
You definitely need to check out “Use of force” next btw!
couldn't notice this earlier, but thank you for doing that! i'm glad that you recorded a reaction to such a great soundtrack.
when I do an intense workout this is the music that pumps my heart, combined with in ear monitors (with an unholy amount of sub-bass) it's the perfect combo, tons of fun, and inspiration from this game soundtracks, it's amazing
Guys, the music producer, go get him!
6:56, and if you had a shotgun aiming for headshots every time that I've read them, pop so well with those cymbal because you be popping the helmets off like if you're clashing metal on the rhythm beat
I wouldn't have thought to ask you to do a payday 2 video but im so glad that you did
I'm so glad I've seen that video on my youtube home page ^^ I love Simon Viklund's music for pd2's ost, and I've play that game for so many hours.. the ost definitely makes the experience a thrill, such an adrenaline shot ! And it changed my appreciation of edm, electro music.. as a classical musician, I've never really enjoy these style before payday 2 ahah
LETS GO! Im a huge pd2 fan, and im glad you also gave these game's OST a listen! please create as many video parts as you can (there are thousands of payday 2 ost exists anyway) and i'll WATCH THEM ALL 🔥
SO GLAD TO HAVE FOUND THIS CHANNEL
First of all your reactions are not only so transparent, but very insightful as well. Having fun with the track while recording with another instrument is a BEAST idea at the end of the video, I'd have listened to way more ! If you feel like it please react to some Payday 2 tracks !
Either way, I'll stick around for more videos :)
From the beginning of Razor mine the plan is just to keep itself and they design it to keep that Loop going if you're staying stealth 5:06 - no you're in the point where someone sent out the alarm and the police are about to roll in - 5:21 and this is when the local police comes in before the assault - 5:35 never remember this is where after clearing out the guards and some of the bags - 5:55 and the top right corner you would notice the Highlight screen will turn yellow telling that you're going to deal with endless onslaught of armored swat out cops, learning the intense beat roll out
Its great to see that your reacting to this right after ive been playing payday 2 all day and listening to every song you just listened too
"Break the Rules", "Left in the Cold" and "Code Silver" are a must to hear.
PayDay has insanely good OST's, I return listening to them from time to time because they are just that good.
This was great man. I would love if someday you talk about Mass Effect music, I love that game and its music has been... forgotten.
Would love to see a follow up with these diverse Payday 2 songs:
"Evil Eye"
"Dead Man's Hand"
"Ode To Greed (techno remix)"
"It's Payday"
"And Now We Wait"
Keep in mind most of these tracks came at 2013 and up. Simon Viklund is a man ahead of his time.
Soundtrack project zomboid is urgently needed! special attention should be paid to "Overrun", "Maybe We Can Win This"
Honestly payday 2 probably has some of the best sound design. The most notable thing to me is how amazingly good the gunshots sound, and how they fill the sometimes empty sounding music, to make it a stressful situation.
My absolute favorite track in Payday 2 is "Left in the Cold", I'd highly recommend reacting to it if you ever do more PD2 reactions.
Viklund is really good at making hype af music. You'd feel the music more in-game since it's tied to the state of alert you're currently at in-game.
Love that Hot Pursuit violin btw, kinda want a full version now lol.
Yeah, it’s a very good way to tell how close you are to the next police assault.
Hey... are we going loud or keeping it quite? Actually, dont answer that... 2:09
I would really love to see you cover more payday 2 songs! Break The Rules is a must-listen!
One of the best OSTs out there. It really makes you wanna beat down a BULLDOZER with a money bundle. Also Donacdum is the best.
I absolutely love the payday 2 soundtrack, it's good to see you react to it!
So to give a little context with razor mind that slower pace tempo is usually reserved for stealth for alot of these songs the slower more ominous tone for these songs but whenever the heist goes loud thats when it starts picking up the pace and starts reaching a crescendo of sorts
man you were not kidding! it is shocking how much I dig this music! I'm going to have to look this soundtrack up!
Music hits even harder when running dodge build on dsod
You have to remember that these jams are accompanying a symphony of violence. Part of the music design, which you hear in the steady thumping bass, is to give an underlying tempo to combat. It gives a feeling of urgency and danger during the assault waves. Then the parts without that bass is used during stealth portions, pre-detection, and the break period, giving those portions more of a feeling of calm. I know this channel just looks at the music, but games like payday have such a beautiful gameplay/music interaction that can't be ignored.
I've been waiting for this, finnaly
Needed to include the something wicked comes this way, which is a very underrated track that never really got as much attention as whatever is name of that one track that plays on day 1 of Hoxton breakout
No way! I love the payday OST! You should listen to the soundtrack from “The Alaskan Deal” from PAYDAY 2!!
You have no idea how satisfying it is to sprint full speed while Razormind is blasting at preferable volume
"Break the Rules" is definitely a must as probably everyone mentions here
personal favourites as well: "Evil Eye", "Fuse Box", "Ode to Greed", "Gauntlet", "Searchlights", "Backstab", "Double Cross 2017", "8bits are scary" and "Gold Rush"
And Code silver 2016,Infinite ammo
great video as always! By the way, if there are more reactions to PAYDAY 2, I can recommend “8bit is scary”
Hey, recent subscriber, and i gotta say that i love your reactions, youre very into the music and it honestly helps me get into the groove of the song. ❤
Thanks for the video. Keep up the good work.
I don't know English perfectly because I'm from Ukraine, but thanks for the video.
Razormind is like going from a stealth heist to when it hits the fan
If you haven’t already checked it out, I think you’d love Prototype’s soundtrack. Very Dark Orchestral-esque
The soundtrack for this game is FIRE!🔥Simon Viklund did an awesome job! 🤘😝
These are some of my favorite songs to heist to in PD2: Razormind, Mayhem Dressed in a Suit, Master Plan, Donacdum, I Will Give You My All, and Black Yellow Moebius.
Thank youuu!!!!
Amazing video as always. Can't wait to see more stuff from Payday 2
Love your Commentary and Love PayDay 2 Soundtrack
Would love to see your reaction to some of Darktides music if interested. It's very high energy/high intensity for a hoard game like Left 4 Dead.
Maybe "Disposal Unit", "Imperial Advance", or "The Transit Horde"
Simon Viklund is a go damn mastermind. You should check his latest release Inject from the upcoming Den of Wolves game.
Payday 2's OST works like this
When you start a heist you start in stealth this is the quietest and calmest part of the songs.
Some of the most affecting and heartfelt ambient music I've experienced.
bonebreaker is easily my favorite Payday2 track. They added it in during one of the later DLCs...and it's got such a beautiful mix of instruments.
