    If he doesn’t want to be in the movie THIS much after all these years, do people really expect a good performance out of him? Or anything that’ll come anywhere close to the original magic?

    • @DiamondPugs
      @DiamondPugs 5 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Bill is just that hard to get to play a role even if he is interested, and he has always done good performances regardless of how hard it was to get him to play the role. At this point, though, I think we can only expect a cameo from him on the new Ghostbusters.

      @@DiamondPugs It's difficult with him, so we'll just wait until a trailer and the full film itself releases in the summer. Right now it's just pure speculation with Bill Murray in GB3 (2020).

      I think we should all be thankful Murray didn't say yes to Ghostbusters 3 after everyone hated the second. I actually like the second one more, ironically because I hate Murray's character in those movies, but he saved us from seeing Ghostbusters 5 and everyone hating everything since the first one (look at all the Alien and Terminator sequels that people hate but they won't stop making more). There are tons of cartoons and supplemental material from Ghostbusters, the movies should just be left alone.

      @bigevilworldwide1 He wasn't the only one responsible for the Coulier debacle, and that change wasn't the only way the show went downhill. The Changes to Janine in looks, personality and voice actress (from Laura Summer to the talented but unfitting Kath Soucie) were just as bad. And in the case of Venkman it wasn't the only problem of course, like Janine the change in in the series overall qulity writing as well as characterisation of the main cast was just as bad a decision, not directly connected to Murray.

      Sequels are rarely good these days, Murrays thoughts on Ghostbusters 2 exactly match mine, some good bits, the Scoleri Brothers scene for example, and the arrival of the titanic, but overall the story holding those scenes together was rather weak, and made for an unsatisfying film overall ! Not to mention they committed the cardinal sin of sequels and reset all the character arcs for the characters, making them all poor at the beginning of the film, after being shafted by the mayor, takes the shine off the ending of the first film ! Lazy writing imo !

      Shawn Convery Yeah, doesn’t change the fact that he played a truly amazing character. The sequel didn’t exactly ruin his character, he just didn’t get many good lines or moments. I could see Ghostbusters without Bill Murray, but I’d like to see him in it anyway. Sadly, Egon not being there hurts the most, though. i think he's a guy with "Issues". Some of which may stem from his start with SNL where he was ribbed a lot by Belushi with the crew laughing on and was possibly jealous of the raw talent Belushi (and attention) that John had, which is why John's skits are absolute classics.
      i would say that it is possible Bill is "On the spectrum" and doesn't process emotions and thoughts like a Normie. (i know all too well about that). Or he's jus got ego problems or maybe a bit psychopathic. Ya can't say he didn't know what kind of response the award acceptance in the Ghostbusters suit would have!
      His constant and well documented difficulties on and off set belie that there is SOMETHING up with him.
      Anyway, check out this skit from SNL and how Bill is responding to the skit which is lead by Belushi and Bill is being made the butt of the family joke. The friction is seen in Bills delivery and face at the very end.

    Bill Murray has just been a *_double edged sword_* for the Ghostbusters franchise. He's amazing when he brings his A-game, but is a tremendous prick which takes a lot of effort just to please him. I know this is way past 30+ years, and with Harold Ramis (RIP) gone, but they could've picked another actor to play Peter Venkman in 1984, and one such could've been Jim Belushi (younger brother of original choice John Belushi). Jim Belushi may not be as versatile as Bill Murray, but he's showcased the decent ability over the years in delivering dry and sarcastic humor. Jim Belushi could've brought long term commitment, stability and professionalism to the Ghostbusters, unlike Murray.

    • @mresturk9336

      I've heard Jim is also quite difficult to work with and has a bad temper. Its supposedly one of the reasons he stopped getting work by the end of the 80s. Same deal with Chevy Chase and Mike Meyers. The moment they weren't pulling in cash Hollywood was done with dealing with them.

      @@mresturk9336 Hollywood would sign on to a new Austin Powers in a minute. Fact is, Murray is right that Ghostbusters 2 was a disappointment. The bad reviews and fast box office decline in 1989 backed that up. However, Murray does have a bad reputation for getting into personal squabbles with actors and directors on set. I'd say at the time it was disappointing. Why? Audiences don't like sequels that make the heroes fail after the triumph of the previous story. GB2, Rocky 5, Last Jedi all examples of this. I was 5 when the original came out. My generation had a very well written and successful animated series Real Ghostbusters in the gap between the two films. GB2 contradicted that and made it hard for a kid to enjoy completely.

      I think the main complaint about the 2nd is that it didn't really attempt anything new or original, it was more of the same, only not executed as well. It's fine, especially for a sequel, but I don't feel like it did anything better than the original, including the special effects.

    • @RictusHolloweye

      Too many story elements directly lifted from the first movie. The style was aimed at a younger audience than the first (not a bad thing per se, but fans of the original had grown five years older not five years younger). Winston Zeddemore was drastically sidelined. The "romance" between Janine and Louis felt contrived and out of character.
      Still enjoyed it. Just nowhere near as good as the first movie.

      I think GB2 didn't do so well because it was the case of been here and seen it. Jokes about slime, jokes about having a nuke generator strapped to your back. I still prefer the first over the second . I am of the opinion though ; if the 3rd film doesn't have all the original cast in it , then it's not going to be a true sequel.Which unfortunately can't happen now ! Still , I will watch it just to see what they did. Old times sake !

    A sort of correction to the videogame event: Murray was paid for a couple of days and appeared to voice his character for exactly the amount of time he was paid for. He finished about half of his character's dialogue script during that time, but the developers didn't have enough money to pay him for more days/hours. During his time voicing the character, he worked very well on it and would even do retakes to get better on certain lines/dialogue. But they didn't have enough (paid) time to finish his character's scripted dialogue, so they had to work with what they had, which is why Venkman seems really not there in some scenes, repeating parts of previously spoken (re-arranged) dialogue and seeming off/weird. Developers said he was professional and a gentleman but only stuck around for as long as he was paid to (which is fair). Murray later stated that he wished he took the game more seriously (perhaps meaning to finish his dialogue-script) because he didn't expect it to be the quality product that it turned out to be.

    Enough with the sequels and remakes already! While I loved the 1984 Ghostbusters, I never saw Ghostbusters II, nor do I have any interest in ever seeing the Paul Feig dumpster fire of 2016. Bill Murray is an incredibly talented comedian, and I can understand why he doesn’t like doing sequels. In the commentary track for Meatballs, which was Bill Murray’s first feature movie, director Ivan Reitman and other members of the cast said they weren’t sure if he was going to show up for filming until he did at the very last minute. In doing what he does, Bill Murray gets to pick and choose what he wants to do as far as movies go. If he doesn’t want to do a movie, that’s his choice and we should respect him for that.

    • @SniffHeinkel
      @SniffHeinkel 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ghostbusters II is a perfectly fine sequel. Murray is just a cry baby. The production team had to fabricate lighter proton packs for the movie because Murray whined so much about them being heavy in the first film.

Time for some original ideas, Hollywood.

      Bill's attitude reminds me of that one Moe Szyslak scene in The Simpsons where he's complaining to a repo man for repossessing his bar's floor. The repo man sharply advises him that this wouldn't happen if he'd just pay his bill, to which Moe replies, "but I don't want to!" Before walking out. It's not that Moe couldn't afford it, he simply didn't want to pay it, even if it meant the loss of his business' floor. It's like extreme anti-conformism. I imagine that happening with Bill. Bill complained to his Agent for too many calls, his Agent simply told him that this how this whole actor/representative business works and Bill replied, "yeah, but I don't like it." Hung up and dropped his Agent immediately after.

    His reluctance to come back sometime back and how long that took Harold Ramis died past that point told me that it was either money related. Or that he did not hold it in high esteem compared to some of his other movies. And lastly the same effect as Bruce Willis hating fans associating him with John McClaine in Die Hard. From his SNL days rumor was even then he was not easy as a personality to get along with much like Chevy Chase. And when comedian and actors reach primadonna status in terms of their careers they can turn down whatever they want. They aren't subject to their lean hungry years of the past.
