A simple explanation would be: Egon had no regrets, and thus went straight to the other side without becoming a ghost, Peter on the other hand still had some regrets and unfinished business, so he did become a ghost. This could give Egon a happy ending while also giving a bit of lore on how the ghosts work.

I think having Egon as a ghost to help them deal with the ghostly situations that are going on would be a perfect tribute to the character and Harold himself
3C Films it just didn’t capture anything what we all do as franchises at charity events or how most of us tend to build all our props etc It really came across as an factor sob story with a few different people who were featured in the documentary. As a longtime fan of the original 2 from seeing the 1st movie in a Drive-in theater when I was 7, It just wouldn't be a Ghostbusters movie without him! He cracked me up so bad that I knew if Murray wasn't there it wouldn't be the same also Dr. Egon Spengler were there in this then it would be a RIOT of hilarity. #RIP Harold Ramis As far as #Human or Ghost? For Murray's character? I'm going with Human because of Venkman's style and way he portrays his character. He's filming both films, but he's keeping his return a surprise until the end. Dan looks a lot happy that a Ghostbusters 3 is happening, keeping an eye on the budget, and Bill was able to return this time. Even though Sigourney kind of spoiled the surprise, but sounds like a reunion from the original cast is officially happening. I mean, Bill as a ghost could help the Ghostbusters a lot more. But I think he has much swagger as a human. But Bill Murray being killed in the 1st act, and he said he doesn't want to bust ghost in his age with his co-stars. But that's all in the past, could or could not that he'll be a ghost. But it's time for Bill Murray to play Peter one last time, dead or alive. In 2019, everyone has an iPhone of sorts, and I don't find it believable that the production would be able to hide an actor like Bill. Surely he would have been spotted at the airport? My gut tells me that he's only begun filming now. I think Dan and Ernie have filmed a total of a week's worth by now, and hopefully will continue until the film wraps. Time will tell, but one thing is certain, with Bill on board, the box office will be even bigger!
