You nailed it. The Feig movie was never about the female cast. It was about being a reboot. Nobody wanted a reboot. We wanted a legit third movie that continued from the original two.
Fieg did two things wrong: he made it a pure comedy -- Ghostbusters 1 & 2 were dramas, not comedies. Two, he had it a reboot, nobody wanted a reboot. Making it female-centric was not one of the problems. It could have succeeded with a female cast as a sequel drama.
@@mnealbarrett I would not call them dramas, but they do not have an upfront comedic tone, the humour is within the story. The comedy is never central. Part of that was so the horror aspect would be effective. Ghostbusters 3 should have had a mixed male and female cast, a dramatic tone with a strong vein of comedy.
It didn't help that Paul Feig really is an awful filmmaker. he is essentially a sitcom director. He shoots movies like a single stage tv show. His prior movies as female centric romcom'esque pieces were able to hide these shortcomings. Cinematically they look like Hallmark channel movies. But since they were largely appealing to Hallmark channel viewers, nobody cared. But the big budget tentpole movie Ghostbusters exposed all of his shortcomings. As much as I honestly hate to suggest that anybody subject themselves to the turd fest that is GB'16, should you choose to rewatch it, do so with an eye towards the camera work, camera and scene framing, and hos he sets up his shots. Actually it's a trick question. he clearly doesn't set anything up. He also does not seem to be aware that camera's can move. Just two camera left right reaction shots for dialog. Like a TV sitcom. He doesn't use the camera to tell the story. He literally just points it at the actors and waits for the "funny" to happen. He wasn't lying about that. he really is that incompetent at his job. And it's right there on screen. The thing to really drive this home. The cinematographer that worked on GB'16 was Wes Anderson's usual guy. The guy that worked on Grand Budapest Hotel. Now go watch GB'16 again and appreciate just how horrid and lazy a movie it is.
It was about an all female cast as well. It was a terrible idea and done for the wrong reasons. A new crop of Ghostbusters, with a woman in the ranks, would have been interesting. Make them all female and making the receptionist male was just a dumb, "ha ha", SJW nonsense.
@@will_it_work An all or mostly female cast could have worked. If they had changed the movie story, setting and visual elements to actually reflect that they had an all female cast. Laverne and Shirley was just a gender swapped Odd Couple. Nobody cared because they built it from the ground up to reflect the female cast. They didn't just cut and paste them into the existing structure. You can't gender swap the entire cast and tell the same story using the same tropes and visual elements. You have to change the story to reflect it otherwise everything rings false.
I'm female and hate ghostbusters 2016 with a passion. It's not funny, forced story, lacks any passion and the characters just dont seem right. If you watch the original its just far superior in almost every way. Most of all, it had a good story, good characterisation, good pacing and (for the time) good effects.
Not to mention that Aykroyd and Ramis put a lot of love into their story. Something the 2016 group didn't. They just wanted to ride the money train of the name with an SJW theme. So which wins out? Money or love? I think love. 😉
_Jason Reitman is directing Ghostbusters 3, and it's all your fault._ *- GOOD.* _Why ignore the all-female reboot?_ *Because it SUCKED, and it IGNORED the originals! Win-Win ;D*
If Sony is dedicated to keeping "woke" out of their movie and it is successful, this may be a canary in the coal mine that far-left politics are no longer popular and movie studios should leave that ideology behind. Maybe even Bob Iger will take notice and realise that de-canonizing Star Wars 7-10 could be a good move and try again with a plot that keeps Luke's character intact. One can only hope.
Well... I hate to break it to Paul Feig and the Ghostbusters (2016) cast, but not every female fan of the Ghostbusters franchise liked their movie. I was completely turned off by the trailer (none of the later ones sold me on the movie), the terrible dubstep theme song but what really made me want to stay away from it; was their attacks on the fans. Every time they said that those who pushed back against the 2016 movie were just a bunch of white manchildren, all I could think was: "I'm not white... I'm not a man... and I have 0 interest in your movie!" Ghostbusters 3 has been in development hell for a very long time and to hear that they are finally going through with it warms my heart. It's a shame that those involved with the 2016 version are throwing a fit and once again going with the "misogyny" complaint. Some food for thought: for them to completely ignore that Ghostbusters has female fans that did not like nor was interested in the 2016 version feels more misogynistic than anything else. The insults from those male fans who did shout that Ghostbusters couldn't be women was nothing in comparison to being completely ignored because it didn't fit with their slams of the fans.
"Some food for thought: for them to completely ignore that Ghostbusters has female fans that did not like nor was interested in the 2016 version feels more misogynistic than anything else." So, in other words... they are total HYPOCRITES!!! Good job in pointing that out.
Stop playing cace cards. See in color not black and white. This was a badly written movie plain and simple. Sure she outed herself for being of African descent, but it was to show that it was not at all about race or being a woman. I truly believe that it was distasteful to call a movie as the 3rd in a trilogy and have the old cast in it yet not reprising their actual roles. Bill Murry never wanted to return unless he wad dead or died. And that’s what we got, and it was funny. Hollywood is hell bent on riding the wake of the women’s movement. Not entirely to be with the times, more so to appeal to their own pocket books. Unfortunately when you have a shitty movie, race & gender will never matter, and in the end, will only hurt the overall objective of the movement.
You got to respect James Rolfe. He put out that video about not reviewing or seeing the movie because it wasnt what he wanted to see from a Ghostbusters movie and that was it. It didnt matter that the media insulted him, he just ignored it and didnt feed into the drama. He was 10 times the person they were.
What James Rolfe did with that video was just to wash his hands, like many others TH-cam reviewers, because he knew the movie was getting to much political. The guy watches shitty movies all the time, there was no reason for him to skip this one. At the end he was attacked either way. He should've reviewed the damn movie, rip it a new one, and move on.
And he had plenty of good reasons to retaliate, especially after one of those defenders of the Ghostbusters reboot film insulted his wife. If I were in his position, I would not be as passive as he was.
@@Astrotrain78 I don't think he's reasons where because of how political the movie became. He just saw how crappy all the modern remakes of classics are and didn't want to bother with it. After Robocop, Total Recall, the Thing, etc. I don't blame him.
I agree, but for that same reason I see no reason to be so mad about it, if James himself wasn't. The crazier thing is that it's not like that video has loads of dislikes on it or anything, which makes me wonder if the people attacking him even saw the stupid video.
That's not what modern feminists think... They want to *tell* the audience what they want and should like, and if they don't like it then they must all be woman hating misogynists. Then they wonder why the movie doesn't do well.
Hollywood and especially Disney don't appear to care about profits and will pour billions down the drain just to force propaganda down our throat in sitcoms, movies, series and even fake news, the profit motive seems dead these days in us media.
Mark Allen Snow and then you don’t double down with telling people they’re misogynistic for NOT going to see an INFERIOR product. The true woman empowerment film was Wonder Woman and Annihilation (starring Natalie Portman)
I'm female and i hated the reboot. It was awful and not a good representation of any of those actresses talent anyway. The originals were much better. Does that mean someday Supernatural will be labelled bad because it was about two male leads? Can't a writer do what they want without twitter caring?
@Madelineblooddoll I thought teh 2016 Reboot was OK... But I 100% AGREE with you that it failed to give a god representation of teh Actresses talents!! While I am not a fan of Melissa McCarthy, I know she is a good actress... Kristen Wigg I am a Fan of... So sorry to say this to Leslie Jones, but I am from teh UK and we don't actually get SNL... So when she was cast I was like 'WHO????' - I have seen some of her work since - But at the time, She was No body to me... I know now she is actually a Good Actress but had never previously heard of her! And don't get me wrong - I am not saying they should only have had big names... Its just Leslie Jones acts like we, teh public GLOBALLY, should knwo who she is... And on that she is VERY, VERY WRONG!
@Zachary Foster I definitely agree. The old cast did a lot together before Ghostbusters came out (movies, t.v they also came up as comics together)...what turned me off was that it felt like a paraody instead of a actual Ghostbusters movie (Chris Hemsworth couldn't even use a phone) Just way to over the top for me.
This is my favorite part. These people are more than happy to squeeze any and all fun out of our beloved movie franchises. But when it comes time to buy tickets they are no where to be seen. I just hope Hollywood figures this out at some point. To many have already been destroyed, Star Wars, Star Trek, now maybe Ghost busters. I hope not, I hope Reitman does the right thing here.
You expect a bunch of progressives to actually spend money? Money is a tool of the capitalist misogynist homophobic trans-phobic Islamophobic patriarchy!
Yes because a movie that has been celebrated for almost 40 years has no merit according to those that supported the 2016 reboot. If these feminazis are so talented then when to they have to do a reboot. Oh that's right, it's not about putting out good material but to erase the good material that doesn't adhere to their agenda.
You have got to be kidding me. The damn female Ghostbusters ignored the first 2 films and now they complain when the new director does the same thing??
It is not ignoring it, just expanding upon it. They're going with the mostly financially successful 80's nostalgia kick that Stranger Things rode to popularity and profits. It's the trope of regular kids and adults together (a family) dealing with extraordinary occurrences. This was the staple of beloved Spielberg, Donner, Zemeckis, etc. films from that time period. That brings at least some of the original Ghostbusters back into action. More than likely, the kids are relatives of one of them.
It's called Perpetual Victimhood. No matter what you do, no matter how right, fair, just or moral your stance is, they will find a way to make it about them being oppressed.
They love to blame the reboots failure on misogynists and racism/sexism. Yet the real reason it failed was because it was another reboot that no one wanted.
DefiantAML , in this world today there is no right, wrong, or failures. Only victims. Everybody is a victim. It's nobody's fault. HOGWASH!!! That is why our world today, SUCKS! You made a poignant observation. Well done.
Every instance of "get woke go broke" is because of misogynistic white supremacists according to the losers. However, if the US & Europe were really this bigoted (allegedly), i would at least have the brain to direct my movies accordingly if i wanted them not to flop. So Paul Fieg is either a moron if he's right or simply incompetent if he's wrong.
Dan Williams I think it’s also because she’s the only person on the team who didn’t have a good career to fall back on. But to be fair she does have a reason to be annoyed given the attacks from actual racist sexist douches she got on Twitter.
@@DerektheDalek She doesn't have an actual acting career because she's a terrible actor. I why would normally have some sympathy for some of the racist thing said to her, but the fact that she instigated this on many occasions if not encouraged it leaves me to have absolutely none for her.
Ive been saying this for a while now. Part of being a grown up adult woman in an era where women are finally getting movies of their own, is to be adult enough to be able to admit when a movie is a stinker. Accept it happens, move on. Make more movies. Some will be good, some will be bad, like all movies. But dont blame white males when you simply were in a shitty movie.
@@MichaelNNY "Part of being a grown up adult woman in an era where women are finally getting movies of their own, is to be adult enough to be able to admit when a movie is a stinker." James Wen and Joel Schumacher both already understands this all too well since they take responsibility for whatever movies they direct is critically and/or financially they fail. Sad Leslie has to act like a spoiled brat and blame others for her failures as an actress and comedian.
The irony is, the 2016 remake was meant to be a symbol of 'political progression' and yet cast the the three white actresses to play the scientists and cast the black actress to play the wise-cracking, street-talking subway worker.
Hollywood has always been like that though. They like to claim they are all for progress, but when you sit back, Black people are still playing either criminals or cops for the most part, the women are still thin and beautiful, Latinos and Asians are still underrepresented, and it's still the obese loser male getting the fine ass rich chick because she loves his personality. The last time I seen something that tried to buck that trend was with Ugly Betty, and maybe The Walking Dead with their hints between Carol and Daryl, but they ended up fucking that up in the end.
The whole movie is just stupid, unfunny stereotypes all around. People seem to ignore the fact that the movie was so bad, it made Ghostbusters 2 look amazing. Comedy movies, if that was one, need to be funny. It wasn't. Basically a shitshow with dick and vagina jokes. And that's the cheapest way to get a laugh by any comedian. "When in doubt, go for the dick joke".
12:39 There's also Patton Oswald who openly went after the AVGN for not wanting to watch that remake. Every "blue checkmark" on twitter were insulting and harassing Rolfe.
I was really mad at the time that Rolfe was getting attacked in that way because he's my favorite Internet celebrity (and because I left a dislike on the trailer), but in hindsight you'd have to understand who Rolfe is (so that you'd know that he was simply telling his fans he didn't want to see it), and also be aware of the growing remake/reboot fatigue (which seemed more like a vocal minority thing at the time, especially coming off a year where films like Fury Road, Jurassic World, and The Force Awakens were so successful) in order to truly get his position. A lot of us take this knowledge for granted, but it's not hard for me to imagine someone simply not being in the know and, especially considering Trump's pre-emptive attack on the film, the MRA attacks against certain female-led sequels in 2015, and the general growing impact of politics at the time, simply mistaking poor James for taking a stand against the film. At the end of the day I was motivated to find out more about the whole thing, which got me into looking up stuff about feminism and SJWs. I consider it valuable in terms of understanding the general social climate of the past few years but past that, ugh. I just wish this could die already.
@@cammz05 I believe they censored and remove the majority of negative reviews bringing up the positive score on Captain marvel and pretty much wouldn't let any further negatives comments be posted.
A lot of people tend to not mention the score. It's not only lit and shot like a horror but scored like a horror with whimsical passages running throughout. Listen to the opening music during the first library scene, that music is eerie and creepy and perfectly sets the tone. One other thing I see mentioned that I think people get wrong is that there are no scenes where the OGB create and test the equipment. Well, there is one shot, when the boys are eating the "last of the petty cash" Egon is working on a positron glider so there you go, that's all the time they felt necessary to waste on that, let's just get to the story!!
the elevator scene is all we need to know about how they "tested" their equipment, which led into the great hallway scene with the maid. A successful test! :D "What the hell are you doing???"
You bring up a good point -- the elevator scene is actually a *really* good example of how and when to break the "show don't tell" rule. Instead of spending valuable screen time _showing_ us the Ghostbusters testing their equipment, the film has the characters _tell_ us that they haven't tested their equipment, using only a few lines of funny dialogue and a key moment of physical comedy: th-cam.com/video/xDHu-tLriTc/w-d-xo.html You know how long it takes? A mere *24 seconds.* Now _that_ is clean and efficient storytelling -- and incredibly funny to boot. See, kids? When you know what you're doing, it's okay to break the "show, don't tell" rule.
Ghostbusters is comedy but it still takes the ghosts seriously; people in our theatre screamed at the library ghost. Even ridiculous Mr. Stay Puft is presented as a legitimate threat. The Ghostbusters weren't wise-cracking and making jokes about him; they were "terrified beyond the capacity for rational thought."
And? I need no super long testscene. I think what they did was perfect. Especial like they all stepped 1 step away when they activated it first, as i this would help :-)
You forgot all the poser script writers they hired from the LGTBQ temp service. They showed them a Ghostbusters tee shirt and said " write a movie about this"
Nick Lambrou think you best go and look at the remake trailer on TH-cam & see just how hated that trailer is!! So yeah, the comment about this teaser being better than that remake garbage is truth!! Deal with it for once & accept the truth without showing the world how ignorant you are by replying!!

Have your own opinion, not just what a bunch of sheep are uniting about.
I am shocked he hasn't cut his balls off and transitioned yet. He seems to really hate men. I got bullied in school too. Know what I did? I found a better group of males to hang out with. I didn't write off half the population of earth.
@@1978garfield Bullying in school isn't the only reason to grow to hate people. I hate men for other reasons (but women for the same, I'm equal opportunity misanthrope).
Liberals and feminists are absolute hypocrites. They spend their entire time hating men, opposing masculinity, and trying to make men more like women. And yet they have the audacity to accuse their _opponents_ of hating the opposite sex! Absolutely unbelievable!
I don't understand why Leslie Jones thinks her Ghostbusters was the first Ghostbusters ever made. The female Ghostbusters is a stand alone film set in there own universe. It absolutely has nothing to do with the original Ghostbusters. Ghostbusters 3 is a direct sequel to part 1 and part 2. She has it twisted
@Nick Lambrou yes, it needs to be "good" and probably not cost more than the 50-80 million range. no unncessary CGI or location shoots, or big name actors beside the originals, shoe string budget relatively speaking

I agree. Remember, it was positively charged mood slime that made lady liberty come to life in Ghostbusters 2! Maybe that's what we all should do. Just hose down these Hollywood haters with some positive mood slime and they'll be fine lol
Very happy I found your channel. Many TH-camrs had been giving you a shout out and I can see why. Keep it up! I am a fan of the original Ghostbusters. I am a female and I disliked the remake from 2016. Woah, do those fans even exist?! Obviously they do. The original movie was one of my favourites as a child (having a poster of them hanging in my room and listening to the tape of the soundtrack all the time) and I actually am probably one of the few fans of the original that liked the '89 sequel. All this to say it saddens me how this has become a culture/political war. We have these stories and 'entertainment' to escape from the craziness that is our current society (it is called escapism), but sadly it has now seeped into just about everything. When I finally saw GB 2016 on Netflix...I refused to see it in the theatre. I found the story to be awful, the characters over the top, and simply Not a funny movie. To me that was not comedy (granted I hated Bridesmaids so that should have been the first clue) and to have turned one of my most beloved childhood movies into that made me mad and those who asked me what I thought would have gotten an earful. I hope that GB 2020 will be made. I hope that Stantz, Zedmore, and especially Venkman will return for one last hurrah with Dana and Janine, and Louis to properly hand over the proton packs to the next set of male And female Ghostbusters bringing back the humour and good story telling from the original! My fingers and toes are crossed.
This is worded really well, I don't hate the cast, I quite enjoyed bridesmaid as an enjoyable romp movie. But GB2016 is. Just. Not. Good. It looks cheap, it's lit up like rainbow cast sick, it's not funny at all with the silly riffing and it completely wasted he comedic chops of Hemsworth who is funny with a good writer. 2020 has a lot riding on it, it has to be clever and funny, not just modern slapstick. But hey I get dismissed as a sexist if I say I don't think it's good.
I went and seen the 2016 film in the theatre, and saw that it was missing quite a few things to keep respects of the originals. Aside from giving the direct appearance of being a solid reboot, the characters were presented very raw, and there was several notes of the classic "anything you can do I can do better" throughout the entire film. I did not see issue with the lead characters being male, female, whatever because that holds no concern to me. What does hold concern is that this appears to be a mock re-make, which completely disrespected the originals. It did give the ideals that one sex was superior, when in fact neither is superior over the other and never will be. Any who believe otherwise, well, that's just on you. I am hoping they DO make a sequel, and I personally would love to see it be a team of both males AND females, as it would bring back the true ideals, that both can handle the job the same, and that neither is better. I too, grew up watching the original film, and had the very rare pleasure to be on the road with my parents [my father was a small time truck driver] and see the production crew on their way back from NY with the car uncovered on the back of the flatbed trailer , and saw that checkered cab-like design. That sparked my interest in the sequel even moreso. I say let the film be made, and let the fans decide if it is going to be worth the time, or not. Let's not allow politically correct influences stop this fantastic franchise!
Valerie Schreiner same here I feel the same way it’s just no way original actors can be topped and to this day I still play ghostbusters soundtrack and dvds in 2019
Valerie, well said. Ghostbuaters is a movie which pokes fun at government bureaucracies (which i am sure many of us wish we could do in the real world); brings a lighthearted look at starting a business from an idea, with limited resources; and in general provides entertainment. Then came 2016 and the garbage movie which gave entertainment a black eye. Granted, just about every movie subtly tries to influence the public to one view or another, but ghostbuster 2016 was just in your face political crap. I am thankful that Dan Akyroyd is keeping a watchful eye on this, and hope that it will be made as it should be intended....a continuation of the original storyline and for entertainment. I would love to see Bill Murray in it , and if Ric Moranis came out of retirement for it, that would be incredible. Even Kristen Wiig would be awesome (my humble opinion, the only one of the "reboot" actresses who is actually funny). As for the pundits, they said 2106 was great, while better things have been flushed, so their reviews mean absolutely nothing.
So friggin tired of all the victims in our society, (I'm such and such and that makes me a victim) I believe the vast majority of people are so over the whole thing ! Looking forward to GB III
Unfortunately, the only way to play that game now is tracking down a disc version for the PS3 or 360. No Steam release and no PS4 or Xbone remaster (not even digital versions for PS3 and 360)

Midnight’s Edge is by far the best source for movie commentary, and now social commentary with the same level-headed and fact-based panache! Best channel ever!
Good commentary on the movies wasn't that rare, Red Letter Media for example provided very good commentary, and even a good technical analysis of the movie from a film making perspective (if you are interested in the mistakes of the Ghostbusters 2016 from a movie making perspective, you should watch the video "Mr. Plinkett's Ghostbusters (2016) Review", if you haven't already). This channel however was the best in regards to the information and analysis of the workings behind the scenes, particularly in regards to marketing and management.
This franchise, more than most others, was a perfect setting to do a "soft reboot". You could have another cast opening up a new branch in another city and still have the original Ghostbusters in the film checking in on the shop. You can have Winston and Ray inspecting the new station and having major roles in the film. Hell, you can even let Bill Murray phone in his performance. I mean LITERALLY a scene where he's on the phone talking crap to the new employees while he holds down the fort in the original Ghostbusters station. And even with the new series going, you can always have the old schoolers drop by whenever they want, because that completely makes sense.
WarGamerGirl - Exactly. Ghostbusters setting up and training a bunch of “Franchisee’s” in a new place and time. Fits perfectly thematically with the light “business” theme of the original and serves as a launch point for a new cast of folks.
It would also fit in as a nod to the Video Game as it ends with the player character "The Rookie" leaving to manage the new Chicago branch of The Ghostbusters.
I think for me that this is what pains me most about this failed attempt of a reboot. If only for the sake of marketing they aught to have implemented a 'soft reboot', as you put it, as this wouldn't have pissed off so many fans.
When your primary objective was to make a movie with all female leads and not about making the best movie then you end up with a crap Ghostbusters movie
There is absolutely no reason to mention the 2016 remake in GB3, as they do not exist in the same universe. This is simple continuum issue and not some misogyny crap the NPC journos are trying to push.
Venkman can come out from a movie commenting that "that reboot literally had its main characters insult the fans of the original series. I doubt much people will see it."
It’s the most pathetic shit I’ve ever seen when sexist assholes start trying to make themselves sound like you’re an oppressed minority. The only ‘social issue’ at work here is the vicious bullshit by lowest-common-denominator types who won’t shut the fuck up about their ANGER toward A MOVIE and keep it up for years on end. You’re the most pathetic shit in the world and you know it.
No, dude. We don't know it, and neither do you. The movie wasn't funny. Full stop. I don't owe a movie some sort of pretend affection because they decided to make it some flash point for trending social issues. The people who didn't like the film aren't a minority of any kind. The film flopped. Fifty percent of the population is female. They didn't turn out for it either. We're the majority. What actually DO know is that "sexism" didn't keep women away from the film. That hideously unfunny trailer did that. Look at some facts: Mad Max: Fury Road-avowedly feminist film, and huge hit. Wonder Woman-huge hit. Halloween 2018-three generations of woman vs serial killer, huge hit. Stop pretending it has something to do with gender. Why didn't you post your comment to any of the numerous posts by female fans here who are also expressing their distaste for the 2016 film?
Nobody has problem with ladies being Ghostbusters... Nobody wants a damn reboot.original cast training a new group of people I'm good with that.let's face it we all get old we all got to retire we all are going to train somebody new to take our spot. I'm very excited for this new Ghostbusters
Doug C that's what I thought. The four actresses (Kristin Wiig in particular is super funny and a good writer) from the remake could've been cast in that scenario, and given a good director and good script, the resulting movie could've been great. It just shows if you don't have the solid talent and direction behind the camera, you got jack.
That's one of the movies biggest conceits and failures. They simply reused everything, all the iconography from the original movies, and dumped it into the gender swapped reboot, without understanding that everything in that first movie was there to inform those original 4 characters. They didn't change anything such that it would have or should have informed us of the new characters. Take the car. In the original the car wordlessly tells us everything we need to know about Ray. The Car and the Firehouse define him as the Peter Pan like man child who has never fully grown up. That is there purpose. Those 4 original characters represented 4 extreme male archetypes. from Ray's manchild, to Peter's coniving lothario to Egon's stoic emotionless logic to Winston's everyman willingness to do any dirty job to put food on his families table. And everything in the movie informed and defined that via show not tell. But simply cut and pasting that iconography, that visual storytelling onto the 4 new female characters doesn't work. It doesn't inform those characters. Yeah they want the Firehouse, but why? it not only informs nothing it makes no sense? Why that car? It's horrible. It would have been better to trick out a Housewife's minivan or the College Professor's Prius in order to define them. Nothing in the new movie informs these new characters beyond horrid expositional dialog and queef jokes. And that's why it failed. It was trying to be something it wasn't rather than being its own thing and telling its own story.
Also I hope they establish Harold Ramis' death in cannon. It would be great if the next movie started with the original Ghostbusters visiting Egon's grave.
Can we not just have a cup of tea and wait for it to blow over? We aren’t being sexist because we are over protective of our childhood memories. We sang the song, blasted ghosts in our childhood homes and begged our parents for the toys. It was a massive part of 80s kids childhoods and we are tired of the endless reboots of our beloved 80s/90s classics.
I want to support Paul Feig. After my family white-flighted out of Detroit, we moved to Mt. Clemens(Feig's hometown). My family shopped at his dad's store. I want to support a local guy, and I really enjoyed Bridesmaids. Unfortunately, I can't support his butchering of Ghostbusters. It was terrible. I'm a woman, and I had secondhand embarrassment while watching it. It's borderline criminal the way Hollywood is trying to redo great 1980s classics that were never broken to begin with. The original Ghostbusters came out just before I turned 1(I do have very early memories of watching it on VHS), but I have fond memories of the cartoon and my late mother taking me to see Ghostbusters II. It all came together with lots of other classic movies, TV shows, cartoons, toys, and music to make the 1980s easily the best time to be alive. Harold Ramis was probably spinning in his grave when Feig's bastardization was being shot.
Ghostbusters Extreme is diversity done right. A disabled, a punk girl, a black man, and Eduardo. For today's standard, it ticks of a lot of social justice quotas and is a huge redflag for many. Despite that, the cartoon is oddly natural, the chemistry between the members is great. Why they didn't turn this into a movie or a live action series is beyond me...
They didn't because they love to pretend to be first to right the wrongs of history and society. And anyone going against their holy crusade is of course [insert SJW insulting buzzword here].
There was actually a GB3 script floating around the internet back in the late 90's that had more than a passing resemblance to "Extreme". The usual consensus among fans that I've heard is that before Sony would put millions into the concept, they would "test the waters" by spending much less on a cartoon & get to see a range for success for the idea. Another theory I've heard is that they canned the script & it was later partially reworked into the series bible for Extreme. Who knows.
They are second to none. They aren't always right but their theories are based on actual facts and when they report on rumors they always make clear that the rumors are just that, rumors.
@@FluffyBunniesOnFire Sony forced Raimi to add venom, which screwed up the whole movie, Topher grace was terrible and Venom in Spiderman 3 was a disgrace.
Thank you for making this video. I'm so happy that a video could explain what I tried to stay away from. When I first saw Ghostbusters, the original one, I was amazed. I love it so much and it holds dear to my heart. So when the remake was announced, I was upset. My mom loved it, then again, she is the pro-feminist in my house. I try to explain to her that it really isn't that good, but women YAY! But when I talked about it with people, you either saw it, or you didn't see it. Seeing it meant you were disrespecting the original and everything it worked for. If you didn't see it, you hated women and you were a sexist pig. It isn't really that funny and it did NOT need to exist. I'm glad that Ghostbusters 3 will ignore the reboot because it means that I can enjoy something that I want to enjoy. Ghostbusters. The original so near and dear to my heart.
Couldn't have said it better myself! I am deeply in love with the world of the Ghostbusters. One of my earliest memories is of seeing Ghostbusters II in theaters, and the franchise fostered my love for science.
I loved the first 2 and I think it's awesome they're making a 3rd and I'm anxious to see the turn out but once I saw the trailer for the reboot I puked
Not liking the reboot has nothing to do with "sexism", it's because the original was a totally different type of film with a totally different type of audience. As a man, I find Sex and the City boring because it's a woman's show. That doesn't make me "sexist" it just means I'm not interested in stuff made for women.
My family loved ATC when they saw it in theaters. I absolutely hated it when I saw it on tv for the first time. I’ll never watch it again. It was a disgrace. Felt like a parody. I was so happy it failed at the box office.
i disagree, this isn't controversial at all because the defenders of the 2016 film didn't show up to watch it in theaters. They can call the original overrated all day, the fact is, it made money.
The media will make a stink, but Sony should know better than anyone how worthless that really is. Mostly since they caused a lot of the public attacks themselves in 2016... Sony should know that all the bluster is worthless. If they do this movie right then it will be a big success. People who vote with their wallets will be there.
I really hope that they make Ghostbusters 3. As true fan of the 1984's GhostBusters, I have been waiting for this for a long time to see original characters back in action and to see whether or not, baby Oscar grew up and became a Ghostbusters like Dr. Peter Venkman, who probably became his stepfather. Therefore, Reitman and Dan Aykroyd should forget the haters and go ahead and make the movie.
Oh sh*t!... *Baby Oscar* LOL I completely forgot! - he would make a PERFECT member of the "new" generation of Ghostbusters, carrying on the legacy, which the old cast would pass the torch to - not to mention an *already* established relation with the original crew! *1 down, 3 more to go... ;)*
Same. At the end I walked out feeling cheated. I didn't even realize it was a big SJW thing until after. I just thought it sucked because it disrespected and tried to overwrite the originals while being lazy.
I watched it in television, luckily in german and the dub clearly makes it a bit better. But the movie itself is so horrible, not because of the actresses or the set pieces, but the two story lines are non existent, the best scene is a 4 second hommage to Casino and the characters have no character. And it isn't funny.
Wokebuster's is the gift that keeps on giving. watching Paul feig and Leslie Jones continue their salty tears after their terrible movie destroyed (what little) reputation they had and cost Sony over hundred million dollars. Love it.
A german theme park added a ghostbusters ride in early 2017, a little over half a year after the Feig movie opened in germany. There was and is nothing in the theming or merchandise of the ride that has anything to do with the Feig movie, it's all from the originals. So when Leslie Jones says that she does not count - she is right. She did not even count for a theme park ride that was opened less than a year after her movie hit the big screen.
The original was.... well, original. Reboots, prequels, spin-offs, etc.. rarely hold up, to the originals. It's not politically incorrect to dislike a sh*t movie. People are too damn sensitive.
Amy Pascal had a feminist agenda. This isn't my opinion, its in the leaked emails where she says she wants to push female lead, female driven movies in roles that would normally go to men. its still so crazy to see how sad every aspect of the 2016 film is including the jumpsuits, proton packs, "Ecto 1", etc.
Paul Feig and Amy Pascal also tried shutting Ivan Reitman out of the project completely, which did happen. That's a fool's move, in my opinion. I think that the 2020 Ghostbusters 3 movie is Ivan Reitman's way of rubbing it in their face. He's basically saying, "You didn't want my help with the 2016 Ghostbusters...so, here, have a real Ghostbusters movie." Honestly, if I were taking over a movie that had this much nostalgia attached to it and its fanbase, then I would have wanted Ivan Reitman, the original cast, and the propmakers from the original 1984 movie to create a sense of continuity. It could have either been as consultants, supervisory roles, you name it...but they would have been there if there was any way possible. That way, I would know that this movie would have the spirit of the original and the talent that made the first Ghostbusters so great. Bill Murray; Let's not forget that insane man Murray is one of the reasons why we never got a reunion of the original Ghostbusters cast. He kept saying that there was never a great script written, but true fans know that Bill Murray hates Ghostbusters. It catapulted him into being a household name and opened doors all over Hollywood, but he didn't want to do comedy after Ghostbusters. He took a hiatus from the movie business for four years. I think he didn't want to feel that his career hinged on Ghostbusters; therefore, he kept ripping up scripts to keep from having to return to the role. It was only because Sony threatened litigation that he even appeared in the 2016 cameo (look at the interviews before its release and see just how much he acts like he wants to be there). Bill Murray's also the one who suggested an all-female cast, even pointing out some of the actresses that played in the 2016 Ghostbusters. Soooooo...you can also blame some of this on Bill Murray for what happened to the Ghostbusters franchise. I certainly do. Murray, Feig, and Pascal are some of the root causes for this movie being the steaming pile of crap it is. On top of that pile of shit is Melissa McCarthy (Why the hell is she even in Hollywood? All I've ever seen her do is scream at the top of her lungs while other actors supported her in the scene. Is it just because they miss Rosie O'Donald and Roseanne Barr...so they just needed her to fill in the token Fat Bitch Starlette slot?) Everybody got on Leslie Jones about how she portrayed Patty. If anyone knows that Eddie Murphy was originally supposed to play Winston Zeddemore, then you can see where she's coming from in the 2016 Ghostbusters. Look at how Eddie Murphy would have played the role. He would not have been as laid back and dry as Ernie Hudson; he would have played it over the top like he does in many of his other roles. Big-eyed looks, loud mouthed, stereotypical Black Man--please understand that I'm not a racist, it's just how he's typically scripted and how he is understood to play roles (why they cast Eddie Murphy in the first place; they know what they're going to get). I love how Ernie Hudson played Zeddemore; the character came off more as an Average Joe looking for a paycheck and willing to spout the company line if it paid the bills. I think Eddie Murphy would have been a more exaggerated character that would have harmed the balance of the ensemble. For 2016's Ghostbusters, Sony Studios has said that the break-even point would be at $300 million. The Worldwide Box Office: $229.1 million. Feig and Amy Pascal created a hefty net production budget of $144 million plus a big marketing campaign budget of at least $100 million more. This was all based on a poorly written, almost ad-libbed, Saturday Night Live styled script. Paul Feig and the actresses even admitted that they just riffed off each other and ad-libbed through the scenes. They did not want to consult the original actors but instead strong-armed them into appearing in cameos or face a lawsuit. Not only that, they didn't do any homework on the franchise that has--believe it or not--a huge fanbase. The original 1984 Ghostbusters movie was a pop-culture phenomenon. It spawned a sequel, two animated series, novels, video games, toys, props, reference guides...you name it. The Ghostbusters theme song was on #1 on Billboard's Top 100 for 3 weeks before dropping down on the list for an additional 18 weeks (21 weeks total). I read an article where some dumbass gave the opinion about why the 2016 Ghostbusters did not do well. They said that in the 2000s, the 1984 Ghostbusters slapstick comedy did not age well. Using the same style of writing harmed Paul Feig's 2016 Ghostbusters...WTF? Um...I'm a little speechless. 1984's Ghostbusters honestly had more dry comedy from the conflict between the mundane and the fantastic than it did juvenile humor (which was added very sparingly). If you look at the scene where the Ghostbusters are running out of the New York Library, they did add a little Three Stooges physical comedy in their styles of running. For the most part, the 1984 comedy was played straight. The 1989 Ghostbusters 2 was aimed more towards a younger audience due to the success of The Real Ghostbusters cartoon series; the studio didn't want to run off their new Ghostbuster fans and decided to play the humor more childishly. The people working on Ghostbusters 2 were not happy with the decision, but they went ahead and made it the way the studio said to do. That's why it didn't age as well as the original. I truly hope that whoever's spearheading the 2020 Ghostbusters 3 movie will do their research, listen to their fanbase, and not call their prospective customers bearded, no-neck manbabies that live in their parents' basement. They also need to understand that there were a lot of females that hate the crap out of the 2016 movie, despite Sony's best attempts at silencing them (my girlfriend said that she would rather watch a week-long Veggie Tales marathon, and she can't stand that show). My advice to the studio: Do your research on the original movie and expanded lore. Regard Ghostbusters 1984 as your primary source and immediately discard anything that contradicts it. Make an in-house continuity bible. (It worked very well for the Batman Animated Series). Watch Toy Story 1 and 2 to see comedy that appeals to all ages (adult and child comedy balanced). If you're still confused, just keep picking up Pixar movies until it clicks. Make a good Ghostbusters movie. Don't ridicule your fans. Mind your humor (Ghostbusters should be normal humor clashing with outlandish situations).
I am afraid that Bill Murray, as much as I love him, was a big reason why the third movie never panned out. Why he agreed to do VO work for that kinda cool video game, I'm not sure.
@@JasonHauser125 Hey, Jason. Here's a little insight about Bill Murray, from what I have personally experienced, before I say anything about the video game and Ghostbusters 3: Bill Murray has a home in Charleston, SC. I've been to Charleston quite a bit, since it's about an hour and a half away from home. The locals there love and hate him at the same time. Bill Murray owns several restaurants, a cab company, and stake in the Charleston Riverdogs (Single-A South Atlantic League) baseball team. Honestly, Murray has been known to drive his own cabs around Charleston and heckle people that get in his cab. He'll also go up to people eating in his restaurants and eat food off their plates and tell them "Nobody will believe you when you tell them Bill Murray did this." As for the Riverdogs baseball team: a few years back, they had a Ghostbusters themed night there. They gave away Egon bobbleheads, which were horrible looking. For some reason--and we thought Bill Murray did it as a joke--Egon's skin, well...to say the least...didn't look like a pasty white dude. We checked, and they were all like that. What makes it worse is that it was right after Ramis passed away. If you don't believe me, check this out: thumbs.worthpoint.com/zoom/images1/1/0715/05/harold-ramis-egon-ghostbusters_1_40175bf9bf1130526bd815359c4a0147.jpg I was part of a Ghostbusters costume group that was there to help entertain. You would have thought that Bill Murray would have been there. He is known to occasionally serve as commentator for the games, and he sometimes goes into the private boxes to harass the people that are in them. But for that game, Bill Murray was a no-show. You would think that would have been a time where he would have been front and center, especially since that could have skyrocketed ticket prices and attendance. The main thing that irks me about the whole thing was that the Ghostbusters Night with the Riverdogs was raising money for charity...but...well, Bill Murray is a reclusive nutcase. He was probably laughing his ass off, thinking that people were coming to the event to see him...and he wasn't even there. As for the 2009 Ghostbusters video game, which was wonderful and well worth the replay I did about a year ago, Bill Murray didn't have to deal with any of the actors, makeup, costumes--just a sound booth with him probably sitting in his underwear and a guy telling him which emotions he's supposed to be portraying to say the lines. He probably did a day's worth of work and then was overpaid to the extreme to even walk into the building. The funny thing is that Bill Murray said that he actually enjoyed doing the video game. Quoted from a Kotaku article: “We did the video game this summer and it was fun to do it again,” he said during a 2008 appearance. “I found myself walking down 5th avenue doing the song. [laughs] People must have thought ‘God, that guy’s really full of himself.’ " I've read that part of the reason that Murray never did Ghostbusters 3 is because he had some issues with Harold Ramis. Outwardly, Harold Ramis got kudos for the humor in the Ghostbusters movies, because Ramis was one of the screenwriters. Bill Murray took offense to this, because he ad-libbed quite a bit or riffed on the original humor in the script and felt that Ramis had stolen his comedic thunder. In my humble opinion, everyone knew that Murray and Ramis both were talents. I believe Murray never wants to be upstaged...who knows. The one thing that scares me about Ghostbusters 3 2020 is that they might pull a CGI-Tarkin fiasco with Harold Ramis. Tarkin was not needed in Rogue One and didn't look good (too much like a video game, right in the middle of the Uncanny Valley). The only way I could see a CG Ramis/Egon working out without being terrible is if they make him a ghost. That way, they don't have to make it picture-perfect. Otherwise, they could just say in the movie itself that Egon has passed away.
@@tomgardner9069 Thanks for the in depth reply. I don't know much about Bill Murray but that makes him sound super eccentric and a little kookoo. And I would rather Harold Ramis just be left out instead of trying to shoehorn some CGI in, ghost or no ghost. Maybe if BM is a ghost in a single scene that will be funny. I imagine that Dan Ackroyd will have the biggest role of the old stars, but maybe Signorney Weaver will make a return. I feel like they missed the window for the GB 3 years ago, and in a perfect world we would be up to Ghost Busters 6 by now :)
As Milo so succinctly stated, GHOSTBUSTERS 2016 was a movie conceived entirely out of spite. It's the most blatantly misandrist thing I've seen since ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK. In that show every single male character is a monster or a moron, while the women are all paragons of virtue and, most often, the innocent victims of evil men.
Lets simplify. You cannot dictate what foods I like. Saying I should like Brussel Sprouts wont make me like them. You cannot legislate what movies I like. Saying I should like a movie because it has a female cast, wont make me like it. I don't have to like the Black Panther movie, I don't have to like any superhero movie and I don't usually. I am 60 this year, I hate onions, that has never changed. I find them slimy and don't like the sulfuric flavor of most of them. I also don't like most mushrooms. Social pressure will not change that, my pallet does not respond to it. You can control actions, controlling preferences is much harder and convincing someone that something is funny when it isn't is really hard. Stand up comedy 101 is that if you have to explain the joke, it probably isn't funny.
Well yeah, it’s only natural to not like mould. (To me, mushrooms are just giant mould spores... can’t make me like em). I only ever saw bits and pieces of the movie, so I can’t really say yay or nay...
I agree with this. People ask me if I stopped watching football, and I just tell them I never watched it to begin with. They call me a racist, but how can I be a racist when I never cared for football or any sport that wasn't the olympics to begin with? I have better things to do with my time than watch full grown men play with balls.
Speaking of stand up comedy... In Sweden, the SJW crowd have tried for years to force people to laugh at least equally much at jokes delivered by female stand up comedians as male ones, because if you don't - you're a misogynist! According to them, personal preferences when it comes to humor is a tool of patriarchal oppression of women.
The "Remake" was toxic the only cure for the poison is to bring back our beloved heroes Ghostbusters 3. Don't kill my lifelong love give our heroes the respect they deserve. GS3
The only way a legitimate Ghostbusters 3 / 4th would do well is if… 1. All or most of the original actors reprised their role. 2. If bringing in “new talent” is absolutely necessary, cast people everybody knows & loves or brand new faces never before seen to develop an appreciation for those new faces. 3. If new faces are necessary make sure the movie really puts the new faces thru the ringer, this would cement a bond with the audiences that would create the appreciation needed to carry the franchise forward. (Think Winston) 4. Pay proper homage to Egon. Remember that we-sort-of got the 3rd movie we wanted within the contents of the Ghostbusters video game, so make sure the narrative continues from there.
I don’t think the original actors are necessary for success. I mean I love those guys, but Ghostbusters is a horror movie with funny people. Not jokes, but just a general vibe. Bring in a new conceptual threat which fits into this dynamic, remain consistent with the movie’s physics, and have likeable characters who present legitimately funny commentary to what’s happening, and you’ll have something of value. Honestly I’m surprised so few people bring up how the plot of the reboot is essentially the premise of Fringe. Those guys should really sue the writer’s estate for plagiarism.
Not all remakes suck. Successful remakes; Dawn of the Dead War of the Worlds The Fly The Thing In my opinion these are undeniably successful remakes, better than the original. The advancement of effects and cinematography played a huge part in it, but they are solid, good films in every aspect.
Now and then yes their are some superior remakes in horror . I think Texas Chain saw Massacre and the prequel were better than the original . Sadly Halloween , Nightmare on Elm Street , and Child's Play , weren't even as good as their sequels . And should never been tried because they needed no improvement
You could've given me that money, and I would've used it and bought me an overpriced lunch. It still would've been a better use of your money than seeing that shit flick.
I watched it and thought it was okay but it's one of those movies that goes in one ear then out the other (as it were). I couldn't remember one plot point. Ghosts probably, but I don't recall any of it.
I am so looking forward to Captain Marvel coming out and that it will be her that will make a real difference in the upcoming Infinity War movie. Oh and that brilliant movie Bird Box wow what a totally empowering movie that is. For me what was totally disappointing about the 2016 movie was this quote was totally missing (insert 2016 character names) "Egon: Don’t cross the streams. Peter: Why? Egon: It would be bad. Peter: I’m fuzzy on the whole good/bad thing. What do you mean “bad”? Egon: Try to imagine all life as you know it stopping instantaneously and every molecule in your body exploding at the speed of light. Raymond: Total protonic reversal. Peter: That’s bad. Okay. Alright, important safety tip, thanks Egon." The casts comedic timing was imho dreadful.
@@SuperCosmicMutantSquid there's a lesson to be learned from this: if you're going to remake something, Don't EVER Diss the fans, the consequences will be severe.
Not the mention the fact that Harold Ramis had JUST passed away, only weeks before Sony announced the reboot. That was pretty much a double kick in the teeth to Ghostbusters fans.
@@MattKittredge2112 I still remember one of the saddest moments after Ramis' passing was when I was watching the commentary for the first and he and the crew were joking about how time had passed between the movies and what it would be like to get back in the suits and Harold's response. Harold:....I wish I could still FIT in the suit. I laughed but then felt sad.
The entire push of "women can be ghostbusters too" always seemed like a fruitless argument simply because weve had female ghostbusters in about every medium since the original films happened. So much of this reboot was just bungled to try and spark press to get butts in seats and it failed
Maxx Creese, Unless they don't want to make money, piss off their shareholders, and join companies like Pan Am and Lehman Brothers in bankruptcy, they better learn their lesson.
This is what is meant by "the customer is always right," which was originally "the market will decide what it wants." Hopefully Hollywood is waking up to this reality.
There’s a right way and a wrong way to inject politics into your films/shows. The original Ghostbusters never said the EPA was a bad thing, but it did say some people in government with a little bit of power are huge assholes. Star Trek was great when it’s message was hidden behind great stories and great characters. Sisko’s race and Janeway’s gender were not front and center. The importance of those aspects of their characters was woven into the narrative. Unlike Discovery which was wanking itself off in the media for a year before its premiere with how diverse and progressive it is only to be the most dark, bleak and conservative in tone series in the franchise. I like that Leslie Jones, one of the only bright spots in the 2016 abomination, got so mad about this new film. I especially like her comment: “It’s like Sony just saying fuck us.” Yeah Leslie. Fuck all of you. Your movie sucked. Walk it off and say yes to a better project.
Skye Gray , I loathe Discovery. I have not nor do I ever intend to watch one lousy episode of that crap fest! It's a joke and it exists to flagrantly despise white men. Angry black people with a chip on their shoulder make the worst movies as do feminists. Discovery sucks and I sincerely hope it fails soon and gets flushed down the toilet where it belongs!!! 🚽🤢🤢👎
I thought the EPA subplot had more to do with internal consistency with the world than political commentary; of course the EPA would want to investigate them! Why not make this the catalyst for the third act ‘all is lost’ climax? It broke the gatekeeper/key master impasse, and not only came out of nowhere tonally, but emerged organically. My God, what a beautiful script.
Wow I picked a good time to find this channel. I enjoyed your take on it I think you pretty much nailed it (I hit that subscribe button midway in). I am a hard core Ghostbusters fan. I had the toys,I bought the game's and so on. Dan Aykroyd busted his tail to get a new Ghostbusters on the big screen (that's a good story itself)then like you said it got high jacked. They failed as soon as they made Ghostbusters something it was not. The overall meaning is that *anyone* can be a Ghostbuster. Those who are mad about about 3 doesn't getcthe franchise anyways. They quickly forget they where guests to this party. They had their chance to move GB in a different direction and it failed. Movies that flop, don't get sequel's. What makes me mad is how disrespectful they are.The old cast welcomed them in with open arms...they even appeared in their movie. Dan Aykroyd busted his but off for over ten years to get another Ghostbusters back on the screen. All they did is show up at work to make a movie. Now they feel they are owed something? They are not winning any war for Social injustice (Wonder Woman did well because the movie was a good movie,GB 2016 didn't do well mostly because it just sucked) all they are doing is making themself's look like ass's. They are probably screwing themselves out of future jobs. No studio wants to put up that kinda b/s. Last time I checked Sony is in business to make money. They pull off a good Ghostbusters they will make a crap load of money. (just off merchandise) Sony's Playstation 5 is on the horizon and if this is a blockbuster having that exclusive Ghostbusters game would be huge for them. Considering the last game they did was received very well. (some say it is only because of the games success the movie was made in the first place) I wrote way more then attended (I love Ghostbusters, I can't help it) Ghostbusters is now in good hands. These guy's understand more then anyone what made GB special. They understand the fans, and the incredibly high expectations we are going to place on this film. They mess this up. They will get a backlash that will be far worse then the last movie cast had! (no pressure) I'm not worried....yet (if the first trailer sucks...a lot of us will probably have a panic attack) It may have taken 30 yrs...but WE ARE FINALLY GETTING A GHOSTBUSTERS 3!
That been happened. She stepped down in 2015 shortly after the Spider-Man deal with Marvel Studios then Doug Belgrade the following year along with Michael Lynton the year after that
Perhaps if it was the original squad passing down there knowledge down to the next generation it might of made more sense. But we get a forced PC agenda movie instead
As far as I know, that was all in the original script Amy Pascal rejected after Harold Ramis - Egon Spengler in the original series - died. Ghost Busters III was green-lighted based upon that original script.
GhostBusters III: AfterLife Picks Up Where The 2ND Film Left Off This Time Pass The Torch 2 The New Generations & It Will Be Dedicated 2 Harold Ramis & Well As David Margulies.
And this is why I absolutely despise SJW rhetoric, especially in regards to entertainment media: -If they don't get something that directly panders to them, they whine and complain about a "lack of diversity", no matter how false that claim is (e.g. trying to make every character gay, trans, or genderfluid for some odd reason). -When they do get something that panders to them, they overhype it, no matter how lacking the quality of it is. When you don't like what they want you to like, they label you racist, sexist, homophobic, etc. -When that doesn't work, they try to drag the original source material through the dirt to make it seem like it was always bad. -When that doesn't work, and logic prevails over their baseless rhetoric, they'll want the entire IP shut down because they can't mold it into everything they want it to be and mold everyone involved in it into the mindless "community" they want it to be. TL;DR The SJW thought-process going into media is and always will be "if I can't have it, nobody can".
I read that and laughed but I think a woman could join the ghost buster crew but it would have to make sense theamaticly Great candidate Would’ve been the nerdy secretary she could’ve been back up and saved everybody unexpectedly kind of like the little Black women in place academy she was shy and had a very quiet voice but she can turn into a ball busting police officer at the drop of the hat which was funny and unexpected in thet movie it would work in the comedy of the Ghostbusters
@GammonDorf I'm quite sure Ghostbusters 3 is going to have a mixed gender main cast, so whoever has a problem with Ghostbusters 3 clearly is a misanthrope.
Just kind of stumbled upon this video as it came up in my main feed... I really enjoyed it. You put a lot of information into it and did your research.

There is to date 2 official Ghostbusters movies 1 & 2. The 2016 parody is not canon so therefore it doesn’t count as a film. We are finally getting part 3 so that film will be canon.
@Biggie Smalls "Filmanimation", so there was a Ghostbusters for the patriots? Just kidding the animated continuation series was the one for the patriots.
I resent the racist comment. They should watch the original. The racial breakdown of the groups are identical. But I guess Ernie Hudson as Winston wasn't black compared to the Leslie Jones portrayal of Leslie Jones.
Okay, when do we get the re-makes with Wonder Man, Xander warrior prince, Lenny Croft Tomb Raider and even Bernard the Vampire Slayer? When? We demand equal rights as men to be able to do crappy re-makes as well!!!!!
This is something I can never understand about the west. Why bring politics into anything? It doesn’t help change anyone’s mind, nor does it make for an interesting story. It’s just sad
Midnight’s Edge is an awesome channel! And boy, I’m just happy to have the return of the original continuity and styling for a change. This shows how some franchises could have benefitted better if they continued the continuity, but expanded on the concept without rebooting everything on a countless measure. The Star Wars Expanded Universe is a great example of that, and enjoyed years of countless ideologies games, comics, novels, and television shows that even if they were bad, good, or short, they added something new to Star Wars without destroying the values of the stories that started it all (at least before Disney cut it to shreds). As for Ghostbusters 3, I definitely want it. Knowing it’s announced just tells me that there’s someone at Sony who’s sensible and wants the brand to be saved from being wiped out. I adored the first two movies, and especially the cartoons, and felt that even if the remake was good, I still would rather have wanted a continuation of what came before. Maybe if the remake was a spin-off instead, the ire wouldn’t be as destructive to Ghostbusters as it has now. At lease MIB: International gets that right. Anyway, keep up the amazing work, guys!
Midnight’s Edge, can u guys do an editorial on BumbleBee’s low-key success and how it may be the Batman Begins of the Transformers franchise in terms of rebooting the franchise (as the ending of BB indicates) and how it may rid Michael Bay from this franchise.
All the G1 stuff in it mainly served as a bait to lure back the audience into the theaters. Next one could very well be the usual Bayformers BS fest. Paramount is really never to be trusted. Ever since they came on board it's been nothing but manipulation. (Midnight's Edge could go to Don Murphy's (one of the producers) forum and dig through threads to see how the fandom was fed with bunch of horseshit to justify shitty decisions) One of the biggest lies: No one but Michael Bay wanted to direct the movie. Later, after the movie premiered, here comes mr. Spielberg bragging how he went DIRECTLY to Bay, NEVER considering ANYONE ELSE for the director of the movie...
@@Grim2 I like Michael Bay. I enjoy his transformers films, as fundamentally poorly written as they are, with the exception of The Last Knight. I didn't enjoy that flick. It was pretty bad. I'm probably the first person, among the hundreds of millions of people who spent billions of dollars to see the Transformers films, who admits they actual like these films.
I originally didn't want to watch it. Then I gave in to curiosity. It wasn't absolutely terrible, but it wasn't legendary either. The movie had its moments.
First things first. This was AN AMAZING VIDEO!. Thank you so much for putting this together. You took "Things" that I intuitively knew or felt, and put them into words that I could grapple with. Great Job. Second. I don't know a damn thing about the "Financials" behind this movie, rather it will sink or swim, or rather it will be "Worth" doing from Sony's point of view. I can however say something as a fan. Nobody, Hates Trump and what he and his supporters represent,,,,,,, ANYMORE than I do. At the same time, I hated this movie from the moment it was announced, right on through to release, this NOT ghostbusters remake. I never went to see the movie, I will never watch the movie. So as you accurately pointed out, Media interests have their criticisms of people like me severely twisted. And for all of the reasons you also pointed out. Again, great job mate. As a fan, I personally would go see an HONEST, attempt at Ghostbusters 3. I believe, that most FANS of the Ghostbusters universe would go see an HONEST attempt at Ghostbusters 3. And exactly as you stated, this was never about "Girls". I couldn't care less what the cast makeup is to be perfectly honest. I don't care if the main characters are all girls, all guys or all porgs. I just want to see a GOOD MOVIE, WITH A ACTUAL FUCKING STORY!!!!!!!!!!! And THAT is what this has always been about for the vast majority of fans. And yes, it's exactly the same thing that's going on with Star Wars, Star Trek and god knows how many other franchises. So if the Sony is paying attention, you have at least one vote here for moving ahead. My criteria as a fan is FIRST, do you have a GOOD STORY. My second criteria is, how well the movie is acted, directed and shot. Beyond that, My last criteria, and this is one that I had to add that I would never normally even think to include, is that YOU KEEP POLITICS THE FUCK OUT OF MY ENTERTAINMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't go to to movies to engage in ridiculous political arguments. I go to movies to escape my shit fucking life where currently, I am drowning in stupid ridiculous political arguments. And I WILL NOT spend money to see any movie that forces that upon me.
Your point of view is remarkably common. So much of these "woke remakes" put its theme before everything else. Things like character, consistency and plot are put second if we're lucky. While this might make for a good Ted Talk it makes for a bad movie and people react accordingly.
@@matthewlawton9241 wow youre one of those idiots that still thinks all the trump supporters are nazis lol all the hispanics that support him are nazis! What a moron haha
I AM a Trump supporter, but I feel the same way about politics in the movies. Keep it the FUCK OUT! I want to enjoy the escape from all the bull shit we deal with every day also. I would really enjoy seeing this movie if it does get done.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
Dawn straight!
Not to mention that Aykroyd and Ramis put a lot of love into their story. Something the 2016 group didn't. They just wanted to ride the money train of the name with an SJW theme. So which wins out? Money or love? I think love. 😉

The !st Winner yea that movie sucked bad
You have them far better answers than i would have. My response to all those headlines would have been "because fuck you that's why".
@FocusFanatic Lol.
The media's just scared of us
I'm not a man... and I have 0 interest in your movie!"
Ghostbusters 3 has been in development hell for a very long time and to hear that they are finally going through with it warms my heart.
Leileya Night great review of this review! I hope you read and review my review of the thus review lol! But seriously, I am with you 100%

you are either not real or you are a gender/race traitor, says studio shill
Yes to all of what you said.
So surprised about the James Rolfe mention. #CinemassacreFTW!
It's not hard to figure out.. "Give the people what they want." Respect the audience and drop the politics.
Forget about the politics!? Rabble rabble rabble rabble rabble
Mark Allen Snow or maybe make a decent movie
I'm female and i hated the reboot. It was awful and not a good representation of any of those actresses talent anyway. The originals were much better. @Madelineblooddoll I thought teh 2016 Reboot was OK... But I 100% AGREE with you that it failed to give a god representation of teh Actresses talents!!

Just want I thought
It is not ignoring it, just expanding upon it. They're going with the mostly financially successful 80's nostalgia kick that Stranger Things rode to popularity and profits. It's the trope of regular kids and adults together (a family) dealing with extraordinary occurrences. This was the staple of beloved Spielberg, Donner, Zemeckis, etc. films from that time period. That brings at least some of the original Ghostbusters back into action. More than likely, the kids are relatives of one of them.

Ive been saying this for a while now. Part of being a grown up adult woman in an era where women are finally getting movies of their own, is to be adult enough to be able to admit when a movie is a stinker. Accept it happens, move on. Because unfortunately Bill Murray is an asshole and Harold Ramis is dead
Or get caught up in studio politics.
They did in 2021.
The irony is, the 2016 remake was meant to be a symbol of 'political progression' and yet cast the the three white actresses to play the scientists and cast the black actress to play the wise-cracking, street-talking subway worker.
SJWs aren't known for their critical thinking now are they.
assassinwarrior They say they want progression, but in the end all they get was regression.
I mean, blacks aren't a majority of our intellectuals. Makes sense.
Snake56 Glad I blacklisted all of Oswalt's endevors since then
We aren't supposed to ask questions. Just consume product. Then get "excited" for the next product.
And James did calmly and respectfully explained why with giving the history of the franchise. Oswald should have kept his mouth shut.
That really pissed me off. People outright lied about James Rolfe. And for what? To promote Sony's product? Fuck that.
Rotten tomatoes shouldn't be a thing after what they pulled.

Once again, another in depth analysis. Way to go Midnight's Edge!
This video is fucking awesome, isn't it?! (rhetorical)
Instead of spending valuable screen time _showing_ us the Ghostbusters testing their equipment, the film has the characters _tell_ us that they haven't tested their equipment, using only a few lines of funny dialogue and a key moment of physical comedy:
th-cam.com/video/xDHu-tLriTc/w-d-xo.html
You know how long it takes? A mere *24 seconds.* Now _that_ is clean and efficient storytelling -- and incredibly funny to boot.
See, kids? When you know what you're doing, it's okay to break the "show, don't tell" rule.
Ghostbusters is comedy but it still takes the ghosts seriously; people in our theatre screamed at the library ghost. Even ridiculous Mr. Stay Puft is presented as a legitimate threat. The Ghostbusters weren't wise-cracking and making jokes about him; they were "terrified beyond the capacity for rational thought."

I agree 100%.
I'm not holding my breath on the next Ghostbusters until filming actually starts. Given how many false starts 3 had.
don't need a 3rd (or 4th?) film. I have the 2009 video game which was the spiritual sequel to GB 1 and 2.
blame that weasel bill murray its his fault we didnt get a 3rd for a long time and now we dont have the full cast
So friggin tired of all the victims in our society, (I'm such and such and that makes me a victim)

Looking forward to GB III
Regardless of what happens, Ghostbusters: The Video Game released back in 2009 is THE original Ghostbutser 3. End of story.
TheAman2008 GB '09 FTW!
I agree and I take it as my GB3 as well, but it Sigourney Weaver is really lacking
Unfortunately, the only way to play that game now is tracking down a disc version for the PS3 or 360. No Steam release and no PS4 or Xbone remaster (not even digital versions for PS3 and 360)

Fun fact, Jason Reitman was in the second Ghostbusters movie, as the kid who told Ray they're full of crap.

Perfect perfect perfect!!!
@DunnoKnowles best early morning cartoon from the early 90's

No. Yes. No. Awesome in depth video! This and other similar undertakings show the real strength of Midnight's Edge. Hail André!
I just really want a live action Kylie. I really hope one of the new characters is based on her.
Who knows.
But do we really need that? I prefer a proper backstory and good character progression rather than fucking skin color/sex parts.
I agree, but the disabled was bit too much, so i wouldnt mind if the only white male has an accident and has to handle disability ongoing

Perfectly said.
*1 down, 3 more to go... ;)*

Leave to SJWs to be upset rebooted film that flopped is no longer canon and a proper sequel people want to see is being made.
And still has it. She's still want a all female Spider-Verse movie ontop of the currently DOA in Development Hell Silver Sable/Black Cat movie
Amy Pascal did damage to any real feminist agenda, GB3 was cringe and lazy all the way through!!!
@Stimulator7 fuck feminist and fuck you too
+The seeker Anthony Perez Are you two seriously offended by a comment? Grow up.
Paul Feig and Amy Pascal also tried shutting Ivan Reitman out of the project completely, which did happen. That's a fool's move, in my opinion. I think that the 2020 Ghostbusters 3 movie is Ivan Reitman's way of rubbing it in their face. He's basically saying, "You didn't want my help with the 2016 Ghostbusters...so, here, have a real Ghostbusters movie."
Honestly, if I were taking over a movie that had this much nostalgia attached to it and its fanbase, then I would have wanted Ivan Reitman, the original cast, and the propmakers from the original 1984 movie to create a sense of continuity.
Is it just because they miss Rosie O'Donald and Roseanne Barr...so they just needed her to fill in the token Fat Bitch Starlette slot?)
Everybody got on Leslie Jones about how she portrayed Patty.
My advice to the studio:
Do your research on the original movie and expanded lore.
Here's a little insight about Bill Murray, from what I have personally experienced, before I say anything about the video game and Ghostbusters 3:
Bill Murray has a home in Charleston, SC.
He'll also go up to people eating in his restaurants and eat food off their plates and tell them "Nobody will believe you when you tell them Bill Murray did this."
As for the Riverdogs baseball team: a few years back, they had a Ghostbusters themed night there. If you don't believe me, check this out: thumbs.worthpoint.com/zoom/images1/1/0715/05/harold-ramis-egon-ghostbusters_1_40175bf9bf1130526bd815359c4a0147.jpg
I was part of a Ghostbusters costume group that was there to help entertain.
[laughs] People must have thought ‘God, that guy’s really full of himself.’ "
I've read that part of the reason that Murray never did Ghostbusters 3 is because he had some issues with Harold Ramis.
I don't care what they think, there Ghostbusters didn't even compared to the original.
John Carpenter I like Sprouts. I did not like the Ghostbusters reboot...
Well yeah, it’s only natural to not like mould. (To me, mushrooms are just giant mould spores... can’t make me like em). I only ever saw bits and pieces of the movie, so I can’t really say yay or nay...
@@MoonlitKarma I actually watched the movie, I didn't think it was horrid, just predictable like most reboots or sequels.
GS3
The only way a legitimate Ghostbusters 3 / 4th would do well is if…
(Think Winston)
4. Pay proper homage to Egon.
Remember that we-sort-of got the 3rd movie we wanted within the contents of the Ghostbusters video game, so make sure the narrative continues from there.
@@FluffyBunniesOnFire LOL, indeed!
Some genuine scares would be welcome, even in a kids film, ghostbusters 2 was too cuddly
Chosen One In my opinion, the video game was the PERFECT Ghostbusters 3. There was no way we deserved such a great story for a game.
I just Googled "Leslie Jones nude."
I think that's enough internet for the day 😟
I will never search that.

Not all remakes suck.
Successful remakes;
Dawn of the Dead
War of the Worlds
The Fly
The Thing
In my opinion these are undeniably successful remakes, better than the original.
The advancement of effects and cinematography played a huge part in it, but they are solid, good films in every aspect.
Macks Power the thing was a prequel not a remake 💁🏽♂️
@@ced214 I think they're meaning the 1982 film
Now and then yes their are some superior remakes in horror . I think Texas Chain saw Massacre and the prequel were better than the original . Sadly Halloween , Nightmare on Elm Street , and Child's Play , weren't even as good as their sequels . And should never been tried because they needed no improvement
Don't forget Peter Jackson's King Kong; another well done remake.
I definitely had no issue with the female led Ghostbusters but it wasn't good , I tried and was not amused. I always wanted a sequel not a reboot.
Thanks Andre, your analysis is always on point and enlightening. Keep up the good work 👍
If Sony pulls the plug before Jason Reitman completes the film, it will truly be mass hysteria.
Kairozart cats and dogs living together
Wonder Women is more of empowering film than Ghostbusters 2016 will ever be. Plus it was a good film and knew what it was doing.
I am so looking forward to Captain Marvel coming out and that it will be her that will make a real difference in the upcoming Infinity War movie. Oh and that brilliant movie Bird Box wow what a totally empowering movie that is.
For me what was totally disappointing about the 2016 movie was this quote was totally missing (insert 2016 character names)
"Egon: Don’t cross the streams.
Okay. Alright, important safety tip, thanks Egon."
The casts comedic timing was imho dreadful.
Amen
Plus, wasn’t it weird that this was praised as a feminist message, but it was directed by a man? They couldn’t even hire a female director...
The female Ghostbusters sucked because of Paul Feig and Melissa McCarthy, it has nothing to do with sexism.
Paul Feig most of all. He's terrible.... =\
I just really missed the old Ghostbusters, the new cast just wasn't real enough.
@@MattKittredge2112
I still remember one of the saddest moments after Ramis' passing was when I was watching the commentary for the first and he and the crew were joking about how time had passed between the movies and what it would be like to get back in the suits and Harold's response.
Harold:....I wish I could still FIT in the suit.
I laughed but then felt sad.
And now in December we're Getting a GHOSTBUSTERS 4 !!!!
The entire push of "women can be ghostbusters too" always seemed like a fruitless argument simply because weve had female ghostbusters in about every medium since the original films happened. So much of this reboot was just bungled to try and spark press to get butts in seats and it failed
I hope that sony learns their lesson. But they won't.
I hope they see Paramount in bankruptcy court !

They managed to make a good Spider-Man movie again, but we'll see if that was an accident or a trend.

This is what is meant by "the customer is always right," which was originally "the market will decide what it wants."
Hopefully Hollywood is waking up to this reality.
I especially like her comment:
“It’s like Sony just saying fuck us.”
Yeah Leslie.
(some say it is only because of the games success the movie was made in the first place)
I wrote way more then attended (I love Ghostbusters, I can't help it) Ghostbusters is now in good hands.

And this is why I absolutely despise SJW rhetoric, especially in regards to entertainment media:
-If they don't get something that directly panders to them, they whine and complain about a "lack of diversity", no matter how false that claim is (e.g. trying to make every character gay, trans, or genderfluid for some odd reason).
There is no conspiracy, only happenstance of people with the same ideals meeting up.

Now that Afterlife is a real continuation of the series, I will be watching it in the theater.
Aww fuck, I totally forgot all about Bumblebee. I didn't even know it was out. Shit😔
All the G1 stuff in it mainly served as a bait to lure back the audience into the theaters. Next one could very well be the usual Bayformers BS fest.

It's awful, i only watched it because Ghostbusters was my childhood and I thought I'd enjoy it and i hadn't heard of any criticism yet
Thank you
Your point of view is remarkably common.
