While I do not understand exactly why we won't get the short wheel base in the US (it would likely sell well), I do understand the reasons for the LWB version from my own perspective: third-row seating. Please correct me if I am wrong, but the SWB doesn't have the third-row seats as an option.
I can't speak for anyone but myself, but I want a third row for being able to install 3 car seats. 3 car seats across a single row is typically physically tight, and ergonomically horrible for the parent helping to strap their young children into the car. My back has been crying for the past four years loading my boys into my Passat, GTI, and to a lesser degree, the Bolt now.
I only have two kids right now, but this vehicle is my choice if and when we have a third. The SWB would be a non-starter for me.

@@hereigoagain5050 ha! I wish I had. But “starving artist” isn’t just a cliche, you know. My one bedroom apartment on Haight Street was $150/month!
I got my BFA in 1978. I had a tradesman skill (running a printing press) I learned in high school. That paid the rent. Then I went back to school and got a teaching credential (needed the Bachelor’s degree to get that) in 1990, as I wanted to do something meaningful.
I taught elementary school for 30 years. Plus I was an adjunct professor at the local community college (photography) and lecturer at the state university (photography). All of that was a great experience.
A few exhibitions, work in collections, a book, and years of immense satisfaction and challenges creating work.

When the concept vehicle was unveiled it caught my attention.
I think the changes to the appearance actually hurt it. Volkswagen should've made it look MORE like the classic VW micro-bus.
That VW multi-van you pointed out is definitely something I will have to look into as I prefer PHEVs. Charging isn't readily available for me.

This winter, some people will be chosing between 'heat or eat', so the comment is thoughtless and unnecessary. I hope the EV auto manufacturers make electric cars cheap enough for the masses, lower price is always better. Also, the current situation with chip shortage(s) is not the big issue anymore, I see thermoplastic supplies being limited (injection molded components) and other commodities that suppliers are having problems obtaining as well as getting employees is a bigger problem. Great video because of the excitement! I do wish someone would fold the back seats down with the add-on accessory platform in a video - I think it allows for a long enough flat surface to have a "bed" in there. For me, I don't need all the bells and whistles of a camper to go camping and I know this isn't a camper, but if it's possible to sleep in there and easily buy a platform/shelf (and not have to custom make your own), then that would make it totally worthwhile for me (was originally hoping for the rails, captain's chair swivelling, and table shown in the original concept vehicle). Because it's electric, I wouldn't spend more in gas/create more emissions while doing my city driving in a bigger-sized vehicle. It will be so unique in Canada - not many electric vans.

It's not the only one electric van. You have Vito from Mercedes and Boxer from Peugeot on the European market allready. The design is really cool (speaking of VW) but the tech is already outdated. The lack of competition is his only chance to thrive.

Own a Id4. Love the look of the buzz. Won't buy another VW because they don't update their software. Over a course of a year I've had many software issue, none that have left stuck on the side of the road but super frustrating. I still have to swipe to charge at a Electrify America station. Don't get me started on the VW phone app, I can't even use it to lock or unlock the car or see if its locked or unlocked. Their route planning navigation is terrible. The backup camera is blurry. Was locked out of the phone app for the last 10 days then miraculously it just starts working again. So if you think Volkswagen will update their software don't hold your breath. You would think with all the new electric car competition out on the market that they would be on top of these things.

Reason for the longer wheel base is to be an alternative to something like the Lightning or Rivian for cargo. The storage in the short wheel base is just too small for that. At least 4 foot clear behind the second row would be great

The outside looks amazing. I am a little shocked at how small the windows feel in the back seat. They feel like tiny windows from the video and it looked like you were getting into a box instead of a open feeling van. Wish it had more of a panoramic large window feel but that would probably hurt the exterior aesthetic.
