- / @youcartv Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is ringing in a new era of vehicle production at its Hanover plant. Production of the new all-electric ID. Buzz and ID. Buzz Cargo recently started there and the first vehicles will be delivered to customers in the autumn. The brand is therefore systematically pressing ahead with the electrification of the site and securing the future of VWCV in line with the GRIP 2030 strategy. In the course of the year the company plans to increase the plant’s daily production to a total of 900 vehicles. In future, there are plans to build up to 130,000 units per year at VWCV's main plant.
With the production start of the ID. Buzz, the VW plant in Hanover is now the third German production site for vehicles of the ID. family.

My dad traveled to Germany in 1976, bought a VW Bus (red and white). They then drove through Germany, Denmark, Norway and Sweden. I believe he shipped it back to the US from Sweden (it’s been a few decades, forgive my memory loss). They flew home and a couple of months later, the new 1976 VW Bus was delivered.
What an icon.
We loved that vehicle for a couple of decades. Put hundreds of thousands of miles on it while road trippin’ all over the western United States.
It was the perfect high school vehicle. When our kids were younger we had a Eurovan. These vans are unlike anything else on the road.
If we can afford a new one…it’ll be a dream purchase.

Yea in Asia also used, as school bus for kids
they are starting price of 40k and they are ev only. Both expensive and impractical for road tripping.

This seems to be a very inefficient use of labour to achieve a second rate look.
You can see why it's expensive, and most cars don't come with this sort of 2-tone paintjob. What a palaver.

VW's are so well thought out & put together that they are worth it. My Golf Mk7 is 7 years old and 80,000 miles on it. Still runs very well.
a car which cant run 10k miles per year isnt worth to be called a car.
And the age of 7y ist not an age.
My VW is now 12y and has run 330k km.
But beware if it is a Diesel. Short tracks are deadly to the AGR and DPF.

Wow, they really mask off the entire body by hand for the bicolour painting.
The orange peel looks the most natural in orange.
This is why it will never be low priced or mass market. Hand masking is ridiculous.

Take a look at Tesla casting and assembly. That’s the new way of building cars. This hand masking and slow assembly process will be their demise. Tesla builds cars at 1/3 the speed of VW. “The best part is no part. The best process is no process. “ Sandy Munro

They only use hand making for two tone paint, which Tesla doesn't offer.

The body assembly had mind boggling automation, then they got to the paint booth and were taping it off by hand. Interesting contrast
Indeed, the two color option of the passenger version seems to be very tedious and time consuming (expensive)
I couldn’t believe what I saw with the manual taping. I am not sure it was for the two tone painting either, it seemed like it was just taping off of window and door frames.

VW's industrial might is concentrated on the electric car now. That's pretty big. ID.3s and ID.4s are all over the place in Europe now. Going to be interesting what the car landscape looks like in 10 years time.

I'm a precision geek, and this is perfection.
The paint masking is a killer.
Interesting there are human voices in apparent conversation as background to pictures of robots doing the work.
I have owned 1966, 1975, 1978, 1985, 1993, 2003 VW buses. All westys but one tin top. Now own Mercedes Benz mb100d. Still a classic. Hope the buzz builds a conversation camper. EV is our future. Sodium batteries will reduce cost. Hope to see the price reflect.

Very interesting! I was not expecting so many robots in the frame production. Looks great, and quality must be exact, with the robots repeating everything time after time in the exact same way!
They told us that E-Karren will be that much cheaper cause of any less parts of the drivetrain.
Now, this VW will cost over 60.000 €.

А вот замена батареи будет потом обходиться в несколько тысяч Euro(наверняка).

@@eyesuckle but the batteries will be trash. That's the problem with the new ev's they are working steadily towards doing away with the used car market. They don't make money on a 1991 toyota camry that is still running. they are engineering a 5-7 year shelf life into these things. With the goal being selling you a new car a couple of years after you pay off the current one.

I don't see people working anymore, all robots except some who are monitoring the processes thru the screen. The power of technology. That's the reason why it's so hard to do repairs when bad things happen because of the accuracy and precision done in the factory and not easy to match up.

Interested in the Buzz for our everyday utility vehicle, but would really like a bit more range for use in the Western United States. Wonder when VW will be able to use solid state or lithium metal batteries?
Probably LiF battery from Gotion for low cost and high efficiency + durability..

As a maintenance technician, I'd love to go on a tour of this shop. I like working with automation equipment. This would be fascinating. It seems weird to me that none of these workers have safety glasses on!
Why would they need safety glasses?
This is not India where people are working in bad conditions. For what do u need safety glasses. Please specific so we can learn from it.
It's just standard operating procedure in USA. Any manufacturing environment requires eye protection at all times, anywhere on shop floors. As for specific stuff, the presses in the beginning of the video. A maintenance technician could have oil drip in his eye when he's servicing the press/ dies. The glue robots, again, if a service technician were to replace one of the supply hoses, it's possible that he forgets to blend pressure off first, and that adhesive could spray and hit his eyes. Some places I feel it's NOT necessary, but I've personally had my eyes saved because of safety glasses. I know this is a different country and don't think the standards here should be imposed else where. But it's just odd seeing no safety glasses.
@@edgrigsby8610 safety glasses and other PPE are required only when there's a risk of injury. Prolonged use of safety glasses may cause discomfort , eye fatigue and headache so maybe that's the reason why Teslas made in China are much better build quality than Teslas made in USA
@@internetresearchagency2238 I don't know, maybe. At the end of the day, it was just odd to see this. Everyplace I've ever worked, required safety glasses on the shop floor. So I'm accustomed to seeing them. If other countries don't require them, that's fine. I'm not going to be arrogant enough to say what works in the US, should be adopted by everyone. I still find this automation fascinating. I'd really like to tour a place like this. I've worked with it so much, I think touring a different country, would be educational and fun.

The original concept vehicle looked so retro and cool. This thing just looks like every other minivan out there. What were they thinking? Good luck at that price, VW. Manual rear hatch, too?
Theres manual and electric hatches depending on if you take the coomercial or passenger car
It's not like every other minivan out there. All of the Chrysler Pacifica's rear seats fold all the way into the floor. The ID Buzz does not have that feature.

The floor above the battery pack seems incredibly thick to me. This is a problem in EVs, its hard to build a "low" car such as a wagon or estate. Structural (truly structural) batteries would help here, but also means much worse maintainbility.
I expect battery packs to get _smaller_ after 2025, when new battery technologies allow for a major reduction in battery pack size for the same range per charge. In fact, the VW models based on the MEB platform will have a relatively short production life, because I expect all Volkswagen EV's to use the new Scalable Systems Platform (SSP) by 2028.
Pros and cons… My i3 lacks a transmission tunnel making the interior more flexible; lower centers of gravity are also normal in EVs. I don’t see in-floor batteries as a real barrier in the passenger car market, as everything has been getting taller.

This video shows clearly, why VW has now chance to compete with Tesla.
Surely they can compete in the production volume - but the big question is: can they compete with the technical specs of Tesla vehicles?
I don’t really think they are going after the same market. The VW is supposed to be a more affordable practical family / work vehicle. Not a luxury item.
Will these be coming to the U.S. next year as early 2024 models ?
