    This was a very specially movie for me growing up. Easily, one of the most beloved things from my childhood overall, not just beloved baseball movies or movies. As an impressionable 5 year old The Sandlot endeared baseball to me eternally.

      @@razkable yeah it was a unique era. So many high quality kids sports movies in less than 10 years. I remember really trying to get my golden retriever Harry (after Harry Potter of course) to pass me a basketball off his nose. He could shake, sit, and even roll over, but he was never destined to play basketball 😂

    I feel like the sandlot is a kids shawshank redemption. Both explore true friendship between guys brought together by a tough situation. Ones a jailbreak and the other is a heist. And they came out quite close together

    Today I learned I can’t watch podcasts with Mina Kimes. I end up just staring at her for a minute and zoning out, then I have to backtrack to figure out what they’re talking about.

    Idk all my friends remember the sandlot as a classic. I was a 92 baby.
    It’s not about baseball. It about being with your friends during summer. Of course there always going to be someone that’s good at sports. As friends we help him. That’s
    what friends do

    Babe Ruth had been brought back into prominence in 1961 with Roger Maris, so I think 1962 was intentional.

    Great pick for a rewatchable it's probably in my top 5 for movies I've seen the most.. movies and music and sports are my 3 main passions and this does great in 3 of those. I alos never tire of coming of age stories they are so relatable and bring back some great memories.. 😊

    I think the point of the fence not being fixed is that James earl Jones and Hercules are now accepted into the community. The kids go and talk baseball and play with the dog. The fence isnt needed anymore. Even though that isnt really realistic I think its somewhat that.

    The Sandlot is one of the movies I saw when I was like 4 or 5 years old where I have nostalgia for moments but I don't remember the whole thing. I remember the fun vibe, but I especially remember the scary parts and the fence coming down because those parts specifically resonated with me. My brother and I would always lose balls of the fence in our backyard and that felt somehow nostalgic at the time when I was like 5 years old watching this move.

    I think you missed a lot about what life was like in the 60s I lived in So CA around the time of that movie. Couple of things stand out
    As a kid growing up then, I wasn't really aware of the Negro leagues. Sad but true. Also, playing ball with minorities wasn't that unusual. I had very integrated classes back then. It wasn't until I moved to Indiana that I was really exposed to racism. I guess you really had to be there, rather than relying on what you know now. Things really were different 55-60 years ago

    • @QC_Charlottean
      @QC_Charlottean 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Why be sad you weren't aware as a child? When you still believe in Santa can you also still live in an aspirational world not obsessed with race and a media pounding in our brains "Remember you all hate one another because of your race. Remember? Remember? Stay divided. You hate each other. Never forget."

    I think the review of the "dad", Bill, by Dennis Leary was kind of an ass/basic bitch take. He was a step-father, which is not easy on either party, be it the kid or the dad. Of course their relationship gonna be a bit strained. They have totally opposite personalities etc. So he wasn't the "hardass" you paint him to be and in the end respected Smalls for admitting what he did, improving their relationship. And the mom didn't "shame" him for being inventive, she just didn't want him to miss out on the important things in life. My mom was the same, does that make her parenting questionable?

  • @DoobieKeebler
    @DoobieKeebler 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    yerr wrong, Daaaaan.
    The best 'kids baseball movie' (as was defined) is easily.... EASILY: "Rookie of the Year."
    Because it's actually about BASEBALL, not a freakin dog & k-nex or what ever that engineering toy was.
    You got prime Gary Busey, throwin junk on the mound cuz his arm is gone ; friggin JOHN CANDY doing broadcasting, in the "Harry Caray" type role; Daniel Stern as the weird equipment manager (one of the robbers from "Home Alone" & in his first directing gig); the beautiful Diane Lane, if I'm not mistaken; and you have a doctor character that says " _MONKEY BUTT-LOVIN_ '!!!" after being smacked in the nose by the lead kid, at the doctors appointment where he learns about his arm's new quick twitch motion.
    It completely blows "The Sandlot" out of the water. Hell, this may not be a baseball movie, but Sandlot isn't even as good as, "The Little Giants."

    Bad News Bears has it all over The Sandlot. Walter Matthau & Vic Morrow, Tatum O'Neal throwing heat, Jackie Earle Haley riding a Harley and hitting on ballet students. The Cool Carl Paranski shift was 25 years ahead of its time. Tanner Boyle flat-out eats Ham Porter's lunch. And, oh yeah, the goddamn Carmen score.

    Love this show in bulk, but this episode is filled with terrible takes. Smalls' mom isn't discouraging him from being smart. He's clearly articulated the desire to have friends and to be outside with them; she's trying to encourage him to get out there so he can. You know, back in the day that's what kids did. You went outside and played and the result was friends. As for the omission of the race stuff, they absolutely did the correct thing. Nothing yells louder "I'm a member of the media" than being obsessed with race. This is a kids' movie. These kids are the age that believe in Santa still. Do we really need to be engaging them in the complications of global (because this is not just a US challenge) and United States race issues? No, we do not. They might just grow up and live in a world that when they are of age to understand some of the bullshit that happened, they instead desire to live in the world they saw in The Sandlot where white kids, black kids, and hispanic kids all just simply play ball together.
