I looked these guys up because I've heard of them before. I was surprised yet glad to see that they're not another prog metal band or something, but rather something like post rock. So you can listen to and appreciate Tool, and then you can listen to and appreciate some really good post rock - right on man, right on.
The drummer has a name! Danny is his name. Danny Carey. Just as the sticks in your hands, your legs also have a range. A real percussionist has a wide range with every limb.
"Cold silence has a tendency to atrophy any sense of compassion"... could ANY other band find a way to write that line into a song, let alone one of the greatest rock songs of all time?
Wow. Thanks for letting me know that my opinion was my opinion. Pro tip: when an individual "declares" something in a comments page on TH-cam it is BY DEFINITION an opinion. 2:03 the way he says "finding beauty in the dissonance" haven't heard him put that kind of emphasis on the syllables in the word dissonance before, and it sounds freaking awesome!
Kiefer Bradley yeah, I remember when I was getting gang raped in the showers for the third time, bubba had a slight variation in his thrusting technique. Very unique!
What I love about that extra middle section is not just the fact that its done faster and has cool drums and stuff, but for some reason the way Adams riff starts out at just a double speed version of the original, but then towards the end of the first bar it breaks into a gallop-y run type thing and just sounds so rad to me man. It's the little things that make all the difference.
+Schaps It's impressive for us but I believe as it's theirs they "simply" (not that simply indeed!) own this piece as any professional would! I think when you are at a certain level every song you play it's like an stretch of your own self so it becomes second nature even in a song with a redundant pattern and a redundant music cadence like Schism!
+alexlanza7&9 I agree with that, but one mess up can mean the destruction of the song. Perhaps not with a song like Schism, but with other songs that is certainly possible. With those time signatures, if you get off beat it's almost impossible to get back in time.
One of the all time greats. Like there is only one Led Zeppelin, one Beatles, one Elvis; there is only one Tool. Long live the modern day masters of rock.
I remember seeing the music video on MTV back in 2001 and thinking it was the weirdest thing I have ever seen in my life. I was real young then but ever since I've loved them.
Legend Gotta Catch Em All Hell yes, I’d pay to see that! I was lucky enough to see both Tool and APC when they did their 2017 tours, it was incredible, both shows were so much fun🤘🏻
Haven't listened to Tool consistently in 1.5 years, or watched live videos. But the thing I remember the most is Justin humping his bass. Obviously that hasn't changed :)
What amazes me most about Tool is their ability to produce the same sound they do on the studio album versions of their songs in their actual live performances...right down to that guitar sound that starts at 4:40, unbelievable.
Song is a masterpiece, the way they throw that same line at you so many different ways with varying layers to it, then his voice just matches the track so nicely.
I'm an old man by any standards, I'm 68. I've seen, heard and played with countless guitar players in my lifetime and I keep coming back to Adam Jones. He catches shit from people for looking bored when he's actually just very focused. Not everybody can play in front of a crowd of people who paid a lot of money to watch you play. Tim Pierce has admitted that he can't do it and he's one of the greatest in my lifetime. He's forgotten more than I'll ever know! But doing what these guys and every other touring band does is fucking hard. People need to give Adam a break. Their music is hard enough as it is without having to worry about how you look doing it. This is my favorite band of all time. Every one of them are world class players. I think the reason that many American bands prefer to play overseas, is that crowd seems to be more appreciative and less critical of how you look on stage. That, of course, is simply an old man's opinion. It cost you nothing to listen to it.
Not to sound all artsy or anything (mainly cause I dont really know what im talking about) but there's so many elements to Tools music that most people don't even realise. Thanks, I never noticed that gem. I love when Maynard explores seemingly small variations, especially in otherwise album-perfect performances.

Muy buen sonido, muchas gracias por este gran registro, TOOL lo mas grande.
I know the pieces fit 'cause I watched them fall away
Mildewed and smoldering, fundamental differing
Pure intention juxtaposed will set two lover's souls in motion
Disintegrating as it goes testing our communication
The light that fueled our fire then has burned a hole between us so
We cannot see to reach an end crippling our communication
I know the pieces fit 'cause I watched them tumble down
No fault, none to blame, it doesn't mean I don't desire
To point the finger, blame the other, watch the temple topple over
To bring the pieces back together, rediscover communication
The poetry that comes from the squaring off between
And the circling is worth it
Finding beauty in the dissonance
There was a time that the pieces fit, but I watched them fall away
Mildewed and smoldering, strangled by our coveting
I've done the math enough to know the dangers of our second guessing
Doomed to crumble unless we grow and strengthen our communication
cold silence has
A tendency to
Atrophy any
Sense of compassion
Between supposed lovers
Between supposed lovers
I know the pieces fit
I know the pieces fit
I know the pieces fit
I know the pieces fit
I know the pieces fit
