With seeing how he runs Puscifer, I can see how Tool would be frustrating for him. He doesnt seem like a dude who likes to him and haw about things. Obviously Tool is excellent, and requires that grueling process to get to where it's at (they've never had a bad album/song) but holy shit it must be tiresome for someone like MJK who has his hands full successfully doing multiple things at once.
Very often when an artist is nearing completion of a significant work be it painting, sculpture, album, etc. they are technically never finished they just end up picking a moment to stop working on it. Nothing is every perfect and a person can spend their entire life improving something but eventually you have to say it is good enough. With music bands often try to avoid repeating previous songs and in rvase of Tool, they have had so much success that they didn't have to create a radio friendly single to promote the album. Danny, Justin, and Adam write and record all of the instrumental parts then send it to MJK for him to add vocals to. From what I have heard in interviews the band tends to change/tweak things constantly until they feel like it’s perfect and that forced Maynard to have to start over or rethink/redo the vocals. For all his intellect, Maynard cannot comprehend faith. His reaction to his mother's death is that of a hurt child shaking his fist at the sky. Hopefully he has, or will, learn to transcend that, and mature into acceptance. Rock on Maynard. The world loves you.
Dude, you haven't heard the whole story on his mum, did you? He was going through a process over the years. Listen and you'll see. Besides, I second the question above my comment: Does having faith have anything to do with intelligence? I think not.
@@OGMann it's not only about her but also about his ways of dealing with that situation... As mentioned he was going through a process🤔I believe (maybe I'm wrong) that this process is the message he's trying to bring along over the years
I see where you're coming from but if you knew the WHOLE story, I feel like Maynard's perspective on his mother's death most definitely HAS changed and matured over the years. The guy wrote this angry, aggressive, cynical, sort of anti-religious, anti-God song "Judith" in a perfect circle. Full of bitterness and full of vitriol. Towards what he saw as his mother's blind faith, and towards God himself, maybe... Okay well eventually after she died, and he had his personal experience with you know, processing her death and what it MEANS, to her, what it means to him, etc .. he wrote the epic, two part masterpiece "wings for Marie/10,000 days" with Tool... if you listen to that piece, he is NOT shaking his fist at the sky, mad at God. I think he sees what a waste of time that is. Instead he's telling his mother goodbye, and inviting her to come HOME.... (as in heaven, with God) "Fetch me the spirit, the son, and the father. Tell them their pillar of faith has ascended. It's time now, my time now. GIVE ME MY WINGS..." it's one of the most poignant and moving pieces of music I've ever heard, as a tribute to someone you love who you've lost. I feel like with Maynard, yeah maybe some of that bitterness will ALWAYS be there, about his mom, and faith, and such...but I feel like after her death he grew to RESPECT her faith, maybe even be inspired by it... I can see the sort of evolving, the progression of his spirituality in music. Anger, bitterness, denial, feeling numb, empty. Eventually sort of a strained acceptance, even PEACE, with the whole thing about his mother. For me it's always been very personal and very inspirational. As a longtime fan of all of his projects, as well as myself being a person who has experienced alot of grief and death, Maynard's journey mirrored my own. In some ways, me seeing his growth helped ME to grow..
It wasn't just her death but her life. Maynard comprehends faith but had difficulty understanding why someone who was so faithful to the religious order who blamed herself for her paralysis. Claimed it was a physical manifestation of her sins. and even after being turned away and abandoned by her church. She continued to praise the Lord despite the actions by the church taken towards her and all of her health problems that he saw as the lord allowed her to suffer she still praised his name. It was more of a testament to his mother's unwavering faith. But you can't judge someone for what they believe. If you were born in india you would be Hindu. If you were muslim muhammad would be the one you praise and if you were maynard then if would be your mother..
So, in the 11 yrs since 10 000 Days, they made an album released in 2020, called not Covid, but Fear Inoculem? With a song called Pneuma? Not covid? Mind blown 🤯
Tool played in my mostly rural area when hardly anyone stopped there back in the day. I've never stopped loving live music since then, it was like a world opening. Before that it was almost always country, not the same intensity whatsoever. I love how complicated they make everything tbh. It's gotta be slow work but you know there's nothing accidental about it when they release it.
Today is the 2nd anniversary of this....they should make it an official world holiday whereby every radio station on the planet is only allowed to play Tool for 24 hours straight every June 30.
Maynard's premonition of the future with the Titles of their Albums/Songs sometimes is almost as disturbing as Joe's ability to instantly sleeve completely into comfortable conversations with anyone without even trying.
I think the algorithm just found this one. Danny is truly amazing but I feel like Tool wouldn’t be Tool without any of them. They had a very different sound before Justin joined the band and the same would be true if any other member were to be replaced.

going everyday on a ride on my e bike lisening to tool on my phone enjoying every minute ,thank you meynard and danny and the rest you make my day every single day ......
I love how new Spotify was to them because of all the years against putting there music out there on the internet , love MJK and Tool
Joe Rogan kind of AVOIDED asking about the record or the band. I was like...what the hell man, you had one job.
He did that on purpose. What do you think everyone was asking Maynard about 24/7 for the past decade. He wanted to give him a break and ask him about his life instead.
@@DaEvilShaman i understand the will to bring some other subjects to the conversation, but come on...he was announcing a NEW TOOL ALBUM (something that, needless to say, happens once in a lifetime) And he didn't make a single question about it. It was not respect, it was negligence as an interviewer.
@@agraciotti I agree he could've asked a bit more about the new album but seeing as though every other interview Maynard is in where he's asked about his music he immediately becomes bored and tries to change the subject, I'm not surprised.
Dude this is nothing...
Billy The Smashing Pumpkins guy got such an easy ride...
Joe goes soft on his Bald brothers
I'm pretty certain that Maynard and Joe have topics that are pre-agreed to ahead of time. The kinds of questions us Tools fans demand answers for are probably the ones Maynard says, "no you can't ask that".
Fear Innoculum... kind of a wild title... Tool on point once again...
Yeah I looked up why Innoculum meant the other day and I was like o okay. Makes sense lol.
One of those bands that makes you google what the album title word is
Visualize folding TOOL on FI Album, right between the o's, makes it a lil more pointy
*Maynard:* announces that the entire TOOL catalogue will be on streaming services for the first time ever AND the name of their first album in 13 years
*Rogan:* so how’s the wine business?
I am an insufferable Tool fan and I demand that Tool put out another album within the next year.
Maynard got covid twice last year and is currently suffering major organ damage. I doubt it's gonna happen
@@danieldonahue5572 Currently? Lol where did you got these news from he said he's all good months ago!
@@danieldonahue5572 he’s touring:)
“I am an insufferable Tool fan”
So what makes you any different from every other Tool fan?
Yeah, that's your first mistake. You don't "demand" shit from those guys lol...
Lol, I remember this. Having full access to Tool on Spotify was a game changer. Just constant Tool all day every day. Yes please!
I remember seeing this live, ah, pre-lockdown/mask days!
Love Tool!!!! Danny carey Maynard all you rock!!! Seem you live once and i missed you guys in November 2023 in Edmonton. 😢
This is the podcast that got me into TOOL, been a metal fan since early teens and even had their entire discography on my iPod (back when you gave your iPod to a mate to chuck all his music on) but never listened to them and don’t know really know why, I listened to this episode and thought I’d check out the title track of their upcoming album and just played it on repeat and have become a huge fan of all their work through the years. To me a lot of bands lack substance in their music but TOOL have a really interesting way of making what would be a seemingly straight forward or “boring” riff/section and giving it a life of its own. I dunno, just my opinion 😅
Welcome to the Tool family brother
I'm going to see TOOL in 4 days. They're one of the few bands that will never get old. Also one of the only concerts I will go see. I am selective of who and what I give my time and money to.
In just the 1st minute, Maynard told 4 jokes and all of them went over Joe's head.
I remember this podcast like it was yesterday. I immediately downloaded all of their albums.
Best band ever, best albums, best singles, best off shoot bands, best videos, deepest motherfuckers, best infusion of personality/reality/and the cosmos in all their music
@@DoesntMatter123a yes
@@DoesntMatter123a yes to any n all mmm maybe Robert Johnson but even still TooL
@@DoesntMatter123a TOOL! Lol
Love Maynard’s sarcasm and his humor
4:33 I nearly pissed myself laughing when Joe said that album was gonna be titled "Fear of a Black Planet."
The Friday that they released their catalogue it was one of the happier days of my life.
Imagine being Joe's daughter, flying around and eating good food with famous people who she prolly doesnt even know who they are
I now want live Tool recordings on BetaMax/LaserDisc
My wife was a student of Maynard father & his step mom. She says he looks like his dad.
I think I already said it but I'm watching this video again. I was at the concert in 2019 when they announced the release of this album. I saw them on my birthday on the Fear Inoculum tour and just went and saw a band from the '90s that is Failure and watched the 30-minute documentary with Maynard in it. I could literally touch the stage while they were singing The Nurse who Loved Me! I missed Puscifer last week, but I will catch them next time! I love Maynard and Tool...thank you for your music! I love his humor as I watch his interviews!
Yeah, only been waiting for Tool to finally embrace MySpace and join the civilized world. 🥳
I hear they're really big on AOL
@@jasonouellette2436 ha! Maynard loves those new chat rooms.
Civilised? Social media is pure horse shit.
Jehovah's Witness
Them releasing on all major platforms was a life changing experience for me

*_EXTREMELY RARE MOMENT OF MAYNARD JAMES KEENAN ACTUALLY LAUGHING_*
… at himself. Lmao
I thought the exact same thing when I seen it!!
I was into tool when they first came along but I also really dig a perfect circle. Maynard is a genius
TOOL !! my band i love since 89 .
Unless you meant youre a fan of Maynard and his artistery since 1989, *Tool didn't form until 1990.*
would be so great that you guys stream live everytime you are making music. i can imagine thousands of people watching you guys and the process on making great music
Omg I have never seen him in an interview on my mainstream
The best move they made. I now can listen to all there music on Apple Music
I laughed at this when it came out I'm laughing again years later, thanks dudes.
"Fear of a black planet" was a great album by Garth Brooks! Loved it! 😆
Fear Inoculum did not disappoint! Put me right to sleep for nights on end!
It's insane how they are still so good, at their age.
Isn't this actually two years ago?
I bought the CD package and they gave us a download package
Nearly 2 years. 1¾.😃
Such Epic advice at the end. It could really change Humanity's future.
Besides, I second the question above my comment:
Does having faith have anything to do with intelligence? I think not.
@@richtigersoan yes, I'm aware of the story. His mother was a woman of faith. He should respect that, even if he doesn't understand it.
(as in heaven, with God)
"Fetch me the spirit, the son, and the father. Tell them their pillar of faith has ascended. It's time now, my time now. GIVE ME MY WINGS..."
it's one of the most poignant and moving pieces of music I've ever heard, as a tribute to someone you love who you've lost.
Just getting into this band Execellent band
I'm jealous you get to discover all of this now. I've been a fan for many moons. Lateralus album is perfect.
Spice of life between these two.
Watching this made me glad I'm on this ball of dirt one more day
Funny how Joe’s show ended up on Spotify.
I’m watching this after the announcement of their 2022 tour dates. Yeah!!
Joe literally has the best life.
This guy have an intelligence that is surpassing many of us. A true artist, voice as instrument and beautiful poetry
Maynard is the ultimate human being.
I still play CDs.
Today is the 2nd anniversary of this....they should make it an official world holiday whereby every radio station on the planet is only allowed to play Tool for 24 hours straight every June 30.
I thought it was released in Aug… Just checked and it was Aug 30th of 19.
46 and 2 has been my ring tone since it came out... Thank you Tool!
Maynard's premonition of the future with the Titles of their Albums/Songs sometimes is almost as disturbing as Joe's ability to instantly sleeve completely into comfortable conversations with anyone without even trying.
dude!!! soo much to admire! you’re winery and service and humanity! soo awesome! i am humble as a native american
The absolute irony of releasing an album called "fear inoculum" just prior to covid....
I doubt it's irony, more like a pre-confession thumb in the eye type thing, LOL
Every Friday I head out to the pub and I have my £2 for 7 songs . This is what I play.
Pneuma
Invincible
The Grudge
The Pot
Stinkfist
Schism
Tempest
Lol...you fuct up, and made a bad ass band...love these 2
Pneuma is a top tier song, glad they finally gave us this!
Just do whatever Danny wants. Without him there is no Tool!
Why is everyone commenting today, so weird
I think the algorithm just found this one. Danny is truly amazing but I feel like Tool wouldn’t be Tool without any of them. They had a very different sound before Justin joined the band and the same would be true if any other member were to be replaced.
