The Bed of Chaos is a womb. The tunnel you go down to reach the fight is the vaginal canal. The two orbs on either side are the ovaries, and between them, where you would find the uterus is the boss, which within holds the fetus, the deformed demon you kill. Lost Izalith is just an area all about women and their anatomy, the witches if you would.
I would say it just is lava, and not everything is metaphorical. However, if I'm wrong it could be menstruation? Here me out, Ceaseless DIscharge is a being made of fire and lava, and as it's name implies, it is in fact discharge. Maybe the incomplete dragons which reside in Lost Izalith are like the discarded incomplete ovum which comes with menstruation. They are half-beings, much akin to what a discarded unfertilized egg would be, an incomplete human. Maybe they are representative of the incompleteness of life which arises from menstruation. Again, this seems rather far fetches and slightly disgusting so I wouldn't believe it, but if the metaphor I suggested about it Lost Izalith representing women, it makes sense. A woman and all her daughters without men would have quite a few menstrual cycles.

This pretty much confirms that the ultimate villain and antagonist in the series is actually Gwyn himself. I mean the man locked away his own daughter and a civilization of hollows in the Ringed City, waged war on Demons whom were misunderstood, allowed Seth to do horrible things to Fire Keepers and experiment on saints ... like, the dude's the top @$$hole to make Pontiff blush. The more we learn about Gwyn the more he comes off as a dictator whom feared humans and did everything he could to keep his status and keep the time of gods present, even branding his own followers who helped fight the dragons the dark sign. Like, wow ....
@@failtolawl There's also a lot of allusions to Odin in his lore as well; Gwyn's obsession with delaying the coming Age of Dark definitely parallels Odin's own obsession with delaying Ragnarok.
Even 6 years after its release, as you look deep under the surface, this game still holds surprises...this aspect of this game is even more amazing than Gwynevere 's chest
So everybody talked about how Anor Londo reappears in ds3 but nobody seems to talk about the demon ruins and all the izalith related stuff found there. Is there ever going to be an in-depth video on the demon ruins from ds3? Does it allready exist and I've overlooked it? There are a few questions I'd like to get answers to like: 'Are the demon ruins what is left of izalith?', 'Why are the ruins next to the Smouldering Lake?' 'Why is the ODK boss arena outside and not behind the demon ruins?' And lastly: Is there a reason for the lake-ruins area to be connected to the catacombs of carthus and if so why?
Because i'm reading a ton of the same comment stating "The robes upon the Altar may not have been Quelana's". Please note that the Gold-hemmed set you find there literally reads: "Worn by the witch Quelana of Izalith, mother of pyromancy and Daughter of Chaos". Of course, their appearance here doesn't prove that she faked her death to escape - but I challenge you to come up with another explanation for a corpse dressed in her robes.
do you think its possible that by "worn by the witch quelana" it means that she wore a set of gold hemmed, and not that she wore this specific one? We already know that other sisters wore Gold Hemmed (the invader before the bed of chaos boss fog) I don't think it would make any sense for that set to be quelana's. Especially because that would mean she has two identical sets of it
If you're assuming the corpse Ceaseless discharge is guarding is *not* a daughter of chaos separate from Quelana, then there are suddenly only 6 daughters of chaos present in-game, one unaccounted for... which seems like an oddly arbitrary omission of detail. When Miyazaki says Ceaseless discharge was "born" when the fire was still unstable, I think he means "Ceaseless Discharge" was born during that time. Not the humanoid brother he use to be. The "birth" of demons is described this way several times throughout Dark Souls. The brother existed prior to the chaos, which is where his connection to the unnamed dead daughter of chaos came from. Honestly saying Quelana faked her death is quite a leap.
He allied with dragons. But it likely didn’t happen during the Great War against them, since he left a parting gift on his father’s gravesite, which means it was after Gwynn left to burn in the kiln, or that he wasn’t in exile but left of his own accord, or that he returned when he heard of his fathers fate. At the top of the dragonkin city in dark souls 3, the corpse of an ancient dragon can be seen sprawled across a distant mountain, I think the sight of this is the cause of his rebellion. Now why he left Anor Londo I’m unsure of. I’m tempted to say he left during the course of the war on Izalith
@@fukaton4024 I don’t think he did before he linked the fire. The miracle you can get from Gwyn’s grave was designed by his firstborn. Almost like a parting gift. I think he was regretful of their actions during the Great War, and he left on a pilgrimage, ending finally at Archdragon peak. Where an altar is set at the top of the mountain, from which the corpse of an ancient dragon still sits, unrotting.
@@fukaton4024 Gwyndolin would have done it. He has a vested interest in keeping the r illusion of Anor Londo alive. And heading that a god has defected wouldn’t breed confidence in the public
To be honest, i think izalith and it's demons are destruction. Have we ever met not hostile demon? Both abyss and chaos flame are powerfull forced that brought doom, leaving only ashes and corrupted, twisted image of life that they consumed
I have always thought the demons were misunderstood. The anguish the last demon King portrays in his battle, the way the dried up demon screams and still can't summon fire. The last black knight locked in combat with the hidden demon in DS3. To me, another one of gywns control methods. Let everyone fight each other while he keeps the dark soul secret.
you know what? i love how vaati said in his DS3 optional boss lore video that he wanted demons to be more than underdeveloped, brutish dumb enemies, and now we all of a sudden see them as so much more than that. turns out, all their lore was just lost in translation. good video vaati, thanks for your contribution to the comunity :)
"The Witch of Izalith" and "Izalith the Witch" both translate to "Izalith no Majo". So if Izalith was intended to be her name then it's a mistranslation.
Izalith lore has always been my favorite. I was really hoping we'd get the Gold-hemmed set back for DS3. Or, you know, that sweet outfit the witch is sporting in the cutscene...
that feel when you browsing Vaati's channel and you are like "damn i want more of his videos" and in that second you get notification that he just published new video. Love it
9:50 that’s not quelana’s robes. It was the robes of one of the other sisters of chaos. There were 7 in total as was seen in the cutscene at the beginning of the game. 2 fused with the bed of chaos, two were fused into spider monsters, and two were left alive and seemingly intact (quelana and the sister of chaos we fight right before the Bed of Chaos boss battle). The last sister is the one we find on the altar.
@@HouseDagothCultist it says they're worn by Quenala of Izalith. But Quenala is obviously not that corpse, and we see at least one other witch wear the same robes, so I think it means worn by her in the same way that all witches wear those robes. It's sort of like acknowledging she also wears the uniform?
So the Ivory King lacked the knowledge of the Izalith runes (or primal fire magics), which could not allow him to bind and control the chaos. The witches were able to, but were deformed either as preparation for such a spell or as a side effect of their bodies adapting to having to contain such power. So he used his soul as water, to try to contain its might with brute force, but he ended up hollow once he ran out. Even Alsanna's barrier could be seen in the light of containing chaos via raw strength (the ice).
The clothes on that altar are not necessarily Quelana's specifically, as all the witches wore that set of clothing. It does mention her in the description, but I don't think we should forget that the Elite Knight set we find in the Darkroot Garden mentions Oscar, despite the fact it cannot be his. Also just because Ceaseless Discharge was born when the chaos was unstable doesn't mean he had to be the first demon. Edit: All bosses drop humanity; this doesn't have any lore impact on the Capra Demon or Taurus Demon, and the other Capra and Taurus demons never drop humanity.
@@VaatiVidya Uh, he answered your point. You're just restating it. His point is fine. Maybe try responding to it instead of just repeating your own point that he already countered perfectly well?
Wveth he edited his original post...to add in the part about the description. His original post justified my response, but you'll never see it. Besides, it doesn't just mention her..it says "worn by".
Loved how you went back to the roots of souls and gave an educated opinion of one of the cornerstone of this amazing world, really hope to see one about the Abyss !
I actually think Miyazaki and From don't care as much about money as other companies. I think they'l rather create new stuff than riding the hype of the old games till they lose their greatness.
I always thought of the Gold-Hemmed Robes by the Ceaseless Discharge as being from the body of one of the witches who survived the initial creation of Chaos, rather than as Quelana's.
Izalith found the Lord Soul that gave her the ambition to create a second First Flame, resulting in Chaos. The ambition part makes perfect sense!! I reminds me of how Sulyvahn found the Profaned Flame and "a burning ambition took root within him." The Profaned Flame may be a remnant of Chaos, but it also has Dark properties, as Andre says he can see the Abyss in it. Unless the Chaos Flame already has Dark properties to begin with.
_A man can have anything if he is willing to sacrifice_ _With your birth, comes a solemn vow_ _You will have nothing, your privilege is the dirt_ *_In the darkness, only ambition will guide you_* _The oaths you swear, the promises you make,_ _They are yours, alone._ _Your freedom will be wars you wage_ _Your birthright, the losses you suffer_ _Your entitlement, the pain you endure_ _And when darkness finds you, you will face it, alone._ Not far off from the Souls series.
These videos reinvigorated me to push through and explore further in the game, and I am utterly in love with both the game, and the lore videos that you make. I can't get enough!!!! Cheers.
Cloture. Hierarchy. Tradition... Order. These things intrinsically oppose the very concept of chaos. This reinforces my belief that Chaos is simply what Gwen (and by extension, the majority of Gods and humanity) called it. The demons stood against Gwen's vision or order, and were therefore branded as Chaos, though the name doesn't really fit. Even Chaos Fire is simply fire magic that is more closely tied to the faction labeled Chaos, and not actually chaotic in nature.
That was the assumption for a while I believe. And I'm not exactly convinced it's changed. The robes are worn by all members of the Witches on Izalith, including the still human one guarding the bed of chaos. It's not specifically Quelana's robes we find.
Yeah, that's where he definitely overreaches. There were 7 Daughters of Chaos (you can see them in the intro at 2:00), and unless the corpse on the altar that Ceaseless Discharge watches over is one of them, there's one left unaccounted for. Quelaag, the Fair Lady, Quelana, the witch who guards the entrance to the Bed of Chaos, the two who were swept up in the creation of the Bed, and the corpse on the altar makes all of them.
That Quelana faking her death kinda came at left field, I thought the prevailing theory was she accounted for one of the seven Chaos witches from the opening cutscene each found in the ruins(Or just outside)
How else do you explain the Gold-hemmed robes you pick up from the altar reading: "Worn by the witch Quelana of Izalith, mother of pyromancy and Daughter of Chaos"?
Most of the Armor that seems to have the description 'worn by' as opposed to 'X of X' (eg. Helm of Hawkeye Gough, one of Gwyn's Four Knights.) seems to be for generic sets, like the ones you start the game with and some enemy sets like that of the Painting Guardians. There was one noticeable exception I could find though in the Xanthous set which also included the word 'once' in its description (A mysterious item once worn by the Xanthous King Jeremiah, the legendary exile. No one knows where it came from.) but it is also full of possessive pronouns (It may be tattered, but /its/ bright yellow color still stings the eyes. etc) which leads me to believe it was intended as specifically his armor. Two particular details stand out about the Gold-Hemmed Black Set though that make me think it is intended to be read as a more generic set than a specific one though. The first being that instead of the possessive pronoun the description of all the pieces uses the full name of each set piece to describe it, which also seems to be an oddity among most Item descriptions but also seems less personal than the Xanthous sets description of each specific piece of armor. The other is the sheer length of the attribution: "Worn by the witch Quelana of Izalith, mother of pyromancy and Daughter of Chaos." which based on some of the details from your video makes me think there may be some translation ambiguity present in the description, like it was worn by each of them and not specifically her. That may be conjecture, but I would definitely like to see someone else's crack at the translation for this item, as this may all be inconsistencies in the grammar and template for the Localization team. Aside from Item descriptions though I don't think her faking her death really supports your theory. The fact that the body is eternally watched over by Ceaseless suggests more that he laid it there for safekeeping, and to protect it past the long ridge leading up to it within his reach since leaving that area causes him to fall to his death as is a common way to cheese the fight. He allows you to safely get close because you aren't a demon, and he possibly thinks you are just a Chaos Servant who serve his family in developing the Chaos arts, making him lash out when you then betray that thought and defile the corpse. Quelaag and Quelaan are both served by these Chaos Servants who are present at the beginning of Lost Izalith, and while you could argue they are both close enough to protect their servants from the Demons that could easily explain Quelana's escape as well, along with an intelligent and civilized organization formed around chaos that is only just barley being pushed out of the Demons territory by the time you reach it.
Man, I know it'll never happen, but I would love to one day play the Izalith that they intended to make. The rush-job version is still really good, but can you imagine how much better and cooler it would all be if they had the time to finish it?
what i always liked with the boss being called "bed of chaos" was how it can be interpreted as "that where chaos sleeps" making it in the name, the witches put chaos to sleep and got it under control and then when we kill both the left and right sides chaos is unleashed and Izalith tries to hold control on her own but in the end its futile
I appreciate the effort of preparing this wonderful Izalith presentation. As eveybody knows, there is still so much to uncover on; Witch of Izalith's identity, her life, Fire Sorcery, Nature of Chaos Flame, Children of the Witch, Husband(s) of the Witch, Shamanism era of Izalith and her daughters Lost Izalith (the City) Regular Izalith Civilisation and finally Demon Civilisation on both Izalith City and Demon Ruins...
Ive seen all of Hawkshaws videos. Vaati, Im very happy to see you give him a shoutout as I believe his theories were revealing quite heavy Dark Souls lore which fans might have missed or misunderstood.
you HAVE (please lol) to make a follow-up video on the abyss!! I love seeing new theories about the game, and with your perfect narrator voice it doesn't get much better. and the abyss is one of the most interesting places in the game and lore. i'd do anything just to hear more lore and crazy theories about it. well, really any area in the souls games tbh
It's not about if it sold good. It's a bout Miyazaki not liking sequels and the story wrapping itself up. Like Dark Souls as much as I want one, Bloodborne really doesn't need a sequel.
Yeah, I came across that video a while ago and I enjoyed it massively. I always liked the whole architecture and pyromancy thing going, but having such a twist explained to me was amazing and made the demons my fave race in Dark Souls and possibly all the games I ever played.
These are some interesting notes about Izalith's ambition, but I feel there are some context clues in the game that still suggest an act of desperation. Chief among these are the presence of Bonfires throughout Izalith itself. The Bonfires were created as a means of Linking the First Flame, or Kindling it in various places almost like leylines and meant to work alongside the Kiln of the First Flame. The presence of these Bonfires, collections of undead corpses turned into fuel sources, in the city and surrounding territories indicates that the First Flame had already begun to fade and measures were made by the Lords to either implement or at least enable Gwyn's plan. There is even a Bonfire located in the deepest reaches of the Bed of Chaos itself, implying that there was some effort made to replace the First Flame, or to derive it into a secondary flame. Another key context clue is that the Fair Lady, a Daughter of Chaos, is herself a Firekeeper, someone directly linked to a Bonfire based on her natural attraction and accumulation of Humanity. This in itself is a highly understated lore element, as it shows that even those with Lord Souls can gather and wield Humanity. Furthermore, Humanity appears to heal her instead of causing any negative effect, and many Chaos Pyromancies do not utilize Humanity whatsoever, suggesting this link between Humanity and Chaos might be a later development, not an innate one, and even unrelated to Izalith's fall. Aside from Quelaag herself, none of the demon bosses even use Chaos powers, not even the Bed of Chaos itself. The Taurus and Capra Demons don't even drop Humanity, aside from the guaranteed Humanity dropped by every boss in the game courtesy of post-release patches. These foes either use Pyromancy or the ancient fire sorceries. As for whether the demons ultimately have a society, I feel the context clues suggest that any such civilization was brought down by the Chaos Flame itself. As we can observe from the Demon Ruins and Izalith, devastating lava is absolutely everywhere, and most of the structures seem to have been utterly destroyed by this. Water is virtually nonexistent, as is plant life other than the wild overgrowth of gigantic roots that seem to have sheared the city apart as well. Looking at the denizens, the dragon legs, or incomplete dragons, fight so wildly as to even destroy each other, being some of the few enemies capable of friendly fire. The Taurus Demons notably obtain their weapons from the bones of their fellow demons, suggesting inter-demon conflicts that result in demon corpses ripe to be made into crude tools. Even the Capra Demons' machetes are noted for merely smashing foes with their sheer weight, and there's likely meant to be a connection between these machetes and the crude, banal behavior of the machete-wielding cannibals of the Depths. Additionally, Eingyi notes that the Fair Lady and Quelaag fled from Izalith, suggesting something went south in that society. Furthermore, Quelana directly states "Always fear the flame, lest you be devoured by it, and lose yourself. I would hate to see that happen again…" This dialogue makes clear that Izalith, both the witch and the civilization, eventually lost control of the Chaos Flame entirely, leading to the populace to seemingly go mad and bring about their ruination. Quelana also requests that the player FREE her sisters from the Flames of Chaos, even noting that their suffering from it is essentially a thousand years of atonement. What's more, the Chaos Demons bear a resemblance to the Bloatheads and Manus, who were confirmed to have gone mad and ruined the civilization of Oolacile. The Chaos appears to be to the Flame what the Abyss is to the Dark. Another thing is that Quelaag and her sister may not have wanted the demons to propagate. The Fair Lady's Firekeeper Soul has unique text that states "To her, the countless eggs which appeared were cradles for each tiny humanity." As such, the eggs going still might not mean that more demons are unlikely to be born, but instead simply serves as an indicator as to the Fair Lady's overall health. Finally, while the demons do seem to be largely staying in Izalith, it might be incorrect to state that Gwyn's armies won a war against them. Izalith itself is still clearly a devastated land filled with demons. The Chaos has not been erased and the territory has not been reclaimed, or newly claimed by Anor Londo. In fact, the greatest possible threat, the Bed of Chaos itself, has even survived, and its seals are intact to boot. Thus, it might be more accurate to say that Anor Londo either lost or only fought its war to keep Izalith's demons from ever gaining more territory, thereby abandoning any refugees, notably the Daughters of Chaos, to the destitution and misery the player finds them in. Any pact was presumably a warning to stay out of society, or to humor Gwyndolin's construction of a Bell of Awakening so that adventurers traveling through would be met with lethal resistance from Quelaag. Sorry for the lengthy response. I find Izalith a very interesting place, but one that is still underexplored. As a parting note, the Gold-hemmed Black Set is probably just referring to the robes as broadly like Quelana's similar to the Elite Knight Set's description in relation to Oscar. There are seven Daughters of Chaos, and all are accounted for in the game: Quelaag, Quelana, the Fair Lady, the pyromancer outside the Bed of Chaos' fog gate, the first staff sealing the Bed of Chaos, the second staff sealing the Bed of Chaos, and the sister whose remains Ceaseless Discharge is honoring.
Fantastic work Vaati; it's an absolute treat to get Dark Souls 1 lore. I have been subscribed since your early Dark Souls 2 videos and I still get delighted when you pop up in my feed. Thanks for being awesome!
Quelanna didn't fake her own death... @ 1:24 you can see that there are 7 children Plus Izalith... that makes 8 altogether... The theory is Izalith and her two daughters became the bed of Chaos... 3 Quelaag... 4 Ceaseless Discharge... 5 Quelanna... 6 And the fair lady... 7 7! Which leaves one sister... the one who is lying dead on the altar, unnamed, for a total of 8
God damn that 'The Abyss' transition near the end was GODLIKE. the 14:38 music cue, and then again at 14:47 with such a powerful shot to Kaathe. Gave me goosebumps.
Excellent video Vaati! This might be they most interesting video yet. I had written on the demons as being just brutes. I’m excited to see your take on the abyss!
he is neither, because as his soul states, he was one of the last witnesses to the chaos of izalith, meaning he's not the first of anything. he was born long after the chaos flame had stabilized and long after it had begun to fade.
Thanks Vaati! Great to have some more lore on a topic mostly evident from previous games; its great that yourself and others can stitch so much together as the content accumulates :') It's almost as if when Gwynn moved on to assess and confront the Abyss (and/or other forces), that he may have allied with the Demons. Some joined Gwynn on his campaign, whilst the rest returned to their peaceful depths and cities, defending themselves with the cynicism they had learned over the war, or developing fire arts and pyromancy, if that was their inclination. Question: More content? Answer: Yes!
even after all these years, there are still secrets and re-imagining theories from Dark Souls 1, not only that but rather sound ones, i love it, what a wonderful game, what a wonderful youtube channel!
Gwyn lord of cinder must also be know as lord of L's handing em out to humanity, dragons, demons whatever if u get in his way the lord of L's will hand you one😂😂😂
All the dark souls games had this post apocalyptic vibe before and now it feels less so in the case of dark souls 1, this sounds very plausible. To think that the demons had a whole society going on during dark souls 1 and we were simply running into the front gate and attacking its guardians! XD Honestly I wonder about civilizations in the dark souls series. We don't kill THAT many hollows, is it implied that across these vast cities life is technically still going on, with people having homes and the like, and we are the major aggressors involved?
Since when was it determined that the robes in front of Ceaseless Discharge were Quelana's? I thought they belonged to a separate daughter who died upon the altar.
Eonhunter I believe the robes description says so but the pyromancy daughter in front of the chaos bed also has the same robes. I personally think that multiple of the sisters had the same robes. If his claim is correct then why did that woman have the same robes?
Morganthe I thought it was already established, and pretty obvious, that all the daughters of chaos wore the same gold hemmed robes. I mean... do we ever see them wearing anything different (excluding Quelaag and the Fair Lady)? Nah. They’re priestesses, and as such they have “uniforms” to wear as most priests/priestesses do.

Of course, their appearance here doesn't prove that she faked her death to escape - but I challenge you to come up with another explanation for a corpse dressed in her robes.

@@henrytims4745 seems unlikely that Gwyn's firstborn betrayed him before he linked the fire
@@henrytims4745 perhaps you're right but it feels like Gwyn if anyone would be the one to erase him from history. We'll probably never know though.
@@fukaton4024 Gwyndolin would have done it. He has a vested interest in keeping the r illusion of Anor Londo alive. And heading that a god has defected wouldn’t breed confidence in the public
Izaleth is like a microcosm of the series as a whole, change does not mean destruction
What hidden demon?

i love how vaati said in his DS3 optional boss lore video that he wanted demons to be more than underdeveloped, brutish dumb enemies, and now we all of a sudden see them as so much more than that. turns out, all their lore was just lost in translation.
good video vaati, thanks for your contribution to the comunity :)
A new video! Thank you for giving my humanity back...
i will patiently wait for abyss lore..
the one thing i cant seem to understand in this game
PLS MAKE IT HAPPEN
MultiNichts yea same

I have difficulty with that too but I know understand pyromancy better
Classic Vaati
Says he'll make a video on Quelana. Cant wait for my grandchildren to see it 😂
That moment when you look at Ceaseless Discharge and finally realize he has a face...
What about the moment when you realise he rips his own arm off and slaps you with it
VaatiVidya From Software and their limb ripping.
Love it
14:45 When the music starts as Vaati talks about the Abyss, give me chills everytime

"if this video is well received"
In other words. See you at the abyss
The robes description says it's Quelana's
@@HouseDagothCultist it says they're worn by Quenala of Izalith. But Quenala is obviously not that corpse, and we see at least one other witch wear the same robes, so I think it means worn by her in the same way that all witches wear those robes. It's sort of like acknowledging she also wears the uniform?
Man, good thing Sonic never tried to control Chaos without the Emeralds....
I'll see myself out.
Now I'm just imaging Sonics mangled form as his flesh partially fuses with one of the chaos spiders
No sonic would just tpose
So the Ivory King lacked the knowledge of the Izalith runes (or primal fire magics), which could not allow him to bind and control the chaos. The witches were able to, but were deformed either as preparation for such a spell or as a side effect of their bodies adapting to having to contain such power. So he used his soul as water, to try to contain its might with brute force, but he ended up hollow once he ran out. Even Alsanna's barrier could be seen in the light of containing chaos via raw strength (the ice).
"If this video is well received..." Well gee, I wonder if that's gonna be a problem
Great video, I still can't believe there's so much interesting lore to learn about after all these years. I really hope you make the Abyss one
The Gold-hemmed set reads: Worn by the witch Quelana of Izalith, mother
of pyromancy and Daughter of Chaos.
Time is convoluted hur dur, plot hole fixed.

Remaster dark souls already fromsoft you know you want the money and we will happily give it too you
Agree
I actually think Miyazaki and From don't care as much about money as other companies. I think they'l rather create new stuff than riding the hype of the old games till they lose their greatness.
What is there to remaster, it's fine as it is and we need another soulsborne game instead.
Jay Ghost honestly each dark souls is like a remaster of the first, and even dark souls 1 is just a more refined version of demon souls.
Jay Ghost wot. The game is not even that old .
Vaati my man. Please make an Abyss Video. I really enjoy these videos and they really help understand how cool the Dark Souls Series is!
I always thought of the Gold-Hemmed Robes by the Ceaseless Discharge as being from the body of one of the witches who survived the initial creation of Chaos, rather than as Quelana's.
But those robes were literally stated (in their description) to be worn by Quelana.
My bad, haven't played through the Demon Ruins in a while. Great video by the way, keep up the good work!

Cloture.
Demonkind is linked intrinsically to fire; all for is inherently chaotic, but it can be controlled.
Gwyn is a dictator
I always love when you do these translation videos. Great video, and thanks for the content!
I thought the body on the altar was another sister
You got me with that cliff hanger on the abyss. Now I can't wait for that video!
I would adore a good video on the Abyss, that was my favorite subject of the Ringed City series.
The Abyss is pretty much the major " evil " force that set up in the entire series for us to fight against. Note the quotes
not evil, just not siding with the gods.
Thats why I quoted evil
Yes!!! This is the stuff! I've been holding off on watching the BB and DS3 content as i haven't completed those games yet cuz they depress me >
Respect for giving Hawkshaw a shout out in this video
Really enjoyed this video, lost izalith is one of my favorite place in the dark souls universe.
That Quelana faking her death kinda came at left field, I thought the prevailing theory was she accounted for one of the seven Chaos witches from the opening cutscene each found in the ruins(Or just outside)
How else do you explain the Gold-hemmed robes you pick up from the altar reading: "Worn by the witch Quelana of Izalith, mother
of pyromancy and Daughter of Chaos"?
It's good to see people are still making theories for this game, really goes to show how well thought out this game's story was.
That notification though REALLY SATISFYING
Man, I know it'll never happen, but I would love to one day play the Izalith that they intended to make. The rush-job version is still really good, but can you imagine how much better and cooler it would all be if they had the time to finish it?
What if Izalith knew she'd fail and then The Fire is Fading but she did it anyway because of her ambition? Damn, what a girl!
The most surprising upload this year. Nicely timed to the Return to Lordran event as well. Good job!
"if you want to see it someday" careful wording there Vaati.
what i always liked with the boss being called "bed of chaos" was how it can be interpreted as "that where chaos sleeps" making it in the name, the witches put chaos to sleep and got it under control and then when we kill both the left and right sides chaos is unleashed and Izalith tries to hold control on her own but in the end its futile
"It has been received well" DO IT !!!
I appreciate the effort of preparing this wonderful Izalith presentation.
As eveybody knows, there is still so much to uncover on;
Witch of Izalith's identity, her life,
Fire Sorcery,
Nature of Chaos Flame,
Children of the Witch,
Husband(s) of the Witch,
Shamanism era of Izalith and her daughters
Lost Izalith (the City)
Regular Izalith Civilisation
and finally
Demon Civilisation on both Izalith City and Demon Ruins...
Hmm. Hmmmmmm. Hmmm..Oh! A new Vaati video!
Time for a toast then. It's only the proper way to celebrate now. Then a nice nap. *Cheers emote*

Karl Evans He's probably waiting until they announce Bloodborne 2(if it ever happens)
Darkraioxxx :'(
I really want a bloodborne 2, i think they did well enough in sales for another one?
It's not about if it sold good. It's a bout Miyazaki not liking sequels and the story wrapping itself up. Like Dark Souls as much as I want one, Bloodborne really doesn't need a sequel.
Yeah, I came across that video a while ago and I enjoyed it massively. I always liked the whole architecture and pyromancy thing going, but having such a twist explained to me was amazing and made the demons my fave race in Dark Souls and possibly all the games I ever played.
Edwad is Izalith confirmed
*Edwad Scream NYEEEEEEHHHHHH
Edwad caused the chaos flame to get out of control. This of course was in the age of fire, before he had Bed and Vaddi to carry him.
don't you mean vaaaaaaaaaaaaabi
Can you go back to Dark Souls one and look at the lore now that 2 and 3 shed light on some of the mysteries?
Fantastic work Vaati; it's an absolute treat to get Dark Souls 1 lore. I have been subscribed since your early Dark Souls 2 videos and I still get delighted when you pop up in my feed. Thanks for being awesome!
Quelanna didn't fake her own death... @ 1:24 you can see that there are 7 children Plus Izalith... that makes 8 altogether...
The theory is Izalith and her two daughters became the bed of Chaos... 3
Quelaag... 4
Ceaseless Discharge... 5
Quelanna... 6
And the fair lady... 7
7! Which leaves one sister... the one who is lying dead on the altar, unnamed, for a total of 8
There's also the Hollow sister outside of the Bed of Chaos's boss room though. She is #8. So the corpse by Ceaseless is a #9.
Nooooo. Ceaseless is most definitely not a Witch of Izalith. So there's 7 plus Izalith herself.
Solaire is a daughter of Chaos though. Just look at evidence and make silly connections and the answer is as clear as day.

Excellent video Vaati! This might be they most interesting video yet. I had written on the demons as being just brutes. I’m excited to see your take on the abyss!
Is the old Demon King a fire sorcerer or just a fire demon such as ceaseless?
he is neither, because as his soul states, he was one of the last witnesses to the chaos of izalith, meaning he's not the first of anything. he was born long after the chaos flame had stabilized and long after it had begun to fade.

Thanks Vaati! Great to have some more lore on a topic mostly evident from previous games; its great that yourself and others can stitch so much together as the content accumulates :')
It's almost as if when Gwynn moved on to assess and confront the Abyss (and/or other forces), that he may have allied with the Demons. Some joined Gwynn on his campaign, whilst the rest returned to their peaceful depths and cities, defending themselves with the cynicism they had learned over the war, or developing fire arts and pyromancy, if that was their inclination.
Question: More content?

The descent to Izalith is one of my favorite paths in a souls game
All the dark souls games had this post apocalyptic vibe before and now it feels less so in the case of dark souls 1, this sounds very plausible. To think that the demons had a whole society going on during dark souls 1 and we were simply running into the front gate and attacking its guardians! XD
Honestly I wonder about civilizations in the dark souls series. We don't kill THAT many hollows, is it implied that across these vast cities life is technically still going on, with people having homes and the like, and we are the major aggressors involved?
Well i think demon souls kinda showed that demons were running things before
I'll be patiently waiting for the next one Vaati! Something tells me that it'll be a great vid

This video is received well. Please continue! I've been watching your videos since the DS1 days
Eonhunter I agree but it is confusing with the description of them.
god, I love sarcastic and smug Vaati. Its such an unexpected break in his typically serious demeanor. That said, good on yer, loremaster.
