But after Zullie the Witch seperated from her beloved once again, she made a TH-cam account where she decompiles the Dark Souls source codes in order to uncover secrets.
I understood that reference!
Hahaha!!!
Yes yes she did and her channels amazing
Deepest lore
Kinda crazy to me this comment has 1k likes when it came out 4 years after this video damn
If you're reading this have a good one
Ledo: So... you like giants?
Havel: Not really.
Ledo: You like hammers?
Havel: More of a tooth guy...
Ledo: Rocks?
Havel: Lets bang.
This deserves more likes
TheBlue Sentinel Error: 404 Likes XD
TheBlue Sentinel got 500 likes
Adriel Human mood
Rave intensifies in the gravelord tomb
Yeah about silver Knights, I can't see them as people after killing over 5 thousand of them for dried ears
Might just be possessed armor shells with corpse fragments at this point
They have been canceled out of existence XD
Chillver Knight exists my friend
Y'know the one who just defends the silver Knight armour set in ds1 he has personality in the fact he doesn't attack you unless you get way too close.
Edgar Quek ugh same 😑
Me neither but its coz of dark souls remastered ledge of death
Dark edge says: karla learned dark edge from her mother
Zullie uses dark edge when judicators call her
Alva and zullie are lovers
Alva invades in irithyll dungeon' seeking the spurned', seeking karla?
Alva is seeking his daughter?
Quin a - literally nice and all, but she says she's a child of the abyss. It could either mean she's like a shard of manus or that she's totally into her dark magic get up.
Specter _Of _The Stars kind of a late response, but the dark edge said that the daughter would never swing it more than once, perhaps, that's why she *thinks* she is a child of the Abyss and has accepted that to be the truth. Though I have no clue as to why she was locked up in the first place or why she swung the edge. Probably to fend off the jailers or whoever captured her.
we also find alvas armor set outside of karlas cage, probably subdued by the jailers
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
i support this theory!
A Slice Of Onyun karlas mum killed herself teaching the dark edge spell to her daughter that's why it's only been used once because karla used it the once when her mother died teaching her to use it
I was always curious about this as I though it was karla I found in ring city just as the hand maiden exist in the past world and present world.
You hear so little about romantic love and affection in the soulsborne series, there’s far more focus on familial relationships
Meanwhile in Bloodborne: "Darling would you give me some blood from the alien in the basement please? The husband: "Yeah sure! Do we give some to Mergo as well? I'm tired of hearing our baby crying..." - An average family in Yharnam -
How are we supposed to live laugh love in these conditions?
Carla is the spurned, daughter of zullie and Alva, he protects her in irythll dungeon
Well we do find his armor in front of her cell
Well he's pretty bad at protecting her then
@@peristeronic37 damn hey but at least he gots great fashion or had great fashion
It would be a pretty awesome connection but if i’m not mistaken carla says she is a fragment of manus
@@Cash_Mambo I commented this three years ago, most dark souls lore has been replaced, I concede to whatever you just said
VAATI! You need to make an addition to the story of Alva and Zullie, because it's heavily implied that Karla is their daughter! Not only do we know that they were lovers, but we also know from Karla's dark, heretical sorceries that she learned them from her mother for her self-defense. Zullie's Judicator spirit uses the trademark Dark Edge sorcery, which is the sorcery that was unique to Karla and her mother. Furthermore, she is specifically labeled as a spurned child, and also a person that Alva sought out and died trying to save.
There are two possible ways we can take this: either Karla is someone who Alva thought was Zullie, and thus sought based on rumor, or Karla is someone that Alva cares about, and thus seeks out. Based on the evidence, I think we are supposed to understand that Alva and Zullie had a child, who was Karla.
makes sense why alva appears near Irithyl dungeon, he's on his was to go save Karla from her imprisonment
Not only that, one of the Locust mentions a person who kills a member of their Kin, but found peace in the Dark. Since we find Zullie corpse, and Alva's corpse near Karla, it's implied that Karla killed Zullie for unknown reasons. Even some of her spells imply the same, though I don't remember exactly what they say.
I think it is most likely not them who are mentioned in this locust dialogue. The "moon or sunless sky" bit implies a blade of the darkmoon. Specifically, one that existed in the original anor londo, where the sky was illuminated by an illusory sun. This could also be referring to the anor londo that exists in irithyll, where the moon is always out (still the home of the darkmoons). I like the idea that it talks about karla, but I think the dialogue matches the darkmoon knightess better. In addition, I am way on board with karla being alva and zullie's child.
marmotman151 i agree with ***** I thought it was Sirris, a Blade of the darkmoon who hails from the sunless realms
Yeah I think that paticular dialogue is for our Blade of Darkmoon. Most notaebly, to support that part, her catalyst, Sunless Talisman, while mentioned as standard for the Sunless knights, does have an affinity for dark, linking her to the abyss.
I do like the Alva / Zullie theory and to add to that, does that mean that Zullie was another child of the abyss, passing on this fact to her daughter?
A lot of the music in this video was by Marc Straight, who has a fantastic Souls-inspired album. Let's give him (and the others credited in the description) our support bit.ly/2oBJVly
Vaati, will there ever be Russian subtitles again?
The album is top notch. Discovered it a few weeks ago and love the music. As always thank you for your contributions to the community Vaati. You are the best! ❤

i don't know if it was for the sake of reusing assets or not , but I noticed in this video that the bottom part of the angles (where legs would be) look a lot like the bottom part of the bugs from the swamp. did you notice that? do you think there is any connection? butterflies are insects after all
If any1 is interested in the future of the dark souls franchise. Here is a petition, you can support:

And pls dont say stuff like it will never work. We only got a dark souls 1 for pc because of a petition in the first place!
You have nothing to lose but everything to gain!
Thanks anyway.
The Stone Humped Hag is by far my favorite. I really love her character, just a grouchy old woman that warms up to you and becomes a grandmotherly old woman. I cried when I found her dead.
@Luis Martinex the lady that you first talk to when you enter the Dreg Heap
I dont think Havel and Ledo became friends because they like rocks.
I think the real reasons is that they are both have inhuman strength.
Havel has to be incredibly riped to wear his set and weaponry. Vitality and strength are somewhat the same stats in the game's context, realistically speaking.
Ledo weares Silver Knight Armor, which is much lighter than Havel's. However: his freakin' hammer requires astonishing 60 strength to be used and is the heaviest weapon in the game tied with Havel's Greatshield (28).
Both of them HAVE to have incredible human strength and be riped as feck. That's probably what made them friends - alike thinking. Also Ledo's weapon art might be Havel's gift or sorts, like a technique that he shared and teached him.
Do you think they two had muscle contests in their free time? With JoJo poses.
Artek [General]
I love this idea
Kinda interesting to think one covers his weapon in rock. The other cover his armor.
One uses a weapon of the Dragons.
The other wears the armor of the Gods.
They're very ying-yang.
Imagine arm wrestles between them, lol
Yeah they’re gym bros lol
Their friendship started with them flexing on eachother, like that one scene in Fullmetal Alchemist
Plot twist, turns out Havel isn't in the tower, he is ledos hammer
I just pictured Ledo swinging around Havel as he screams a war cry XD
That's all I picture whilst it's got rocks on it
Ledo swinging around Havel while Havel swings the Dragon Tooth. No one can beat that.
If you look carefully, you can see him on the phone with Havel when he uses his weapon art.
Nice one but the description says Ledo was actually friends with Havel.
If the angels are with Londor it would make sense as to why all the pilgrims were trying to get into Lothric. So they could 'die', become angels and try to stop them from linking the fire.
and in the DragonSlayer boss fight, those bastards are shooting meteors at you halfway through the fight
Because they think you're trying to like the fire. It makes sense now.
I'm still not convinced that the Angel Gertrude met is the same type of angels as the angels the pilgrims turn into. 3 reasons are
1. Why did all the pilgrim trees in Lothric and High Wall fail to turn into angels and instead become Pilgrim Butterflies? Why were only the pilgrim trees in the End Times able to turn into angels? Why are the pilgrim trees in Lothric dead, but the ones in the End Times alive?
2. What is the deal with all the feathers, if the angels have butterfly wings? Why is Gertrudes cell and Prince Lothrics room flooded with feathers if feathers have nothing to do with the angels?
3. It is pretty clearly stated that Gertrude conversed with the Angel, but the Pilgrim Angels we encounter can only shout wordless and seem like they are incapable of speech
Seems to me like the Pilgrim Angels are just a cheap imitation of the real angels
Swoddy
That explains the wall around Lothric. It's just politics.
Maybe it does make sence if we consider the theoretical existance of "the real angels" of Lothric, as far as Londor's desire to usurp the flame, as far as Pilgrims' mastery in mimicry (Chameleon) = maybe Pilgrims rushed to Lothric to disguise as if they were "the real angels" to secretly make Prince Lothric unwilling to become the Lord of Cinder? Man, that would be so in Kaath-style :D
Now that the Souls series is officially over I have a question.
Although it would take absolutely forever and would probably be an ungodly long video, are you intending to ever do a full, in depth lore video of the whole of the Dark Souls series, from start to finish, going over everyone's individual stories and the link them together to make sense in a chronological sense?
Kurt Woyma I think if he thinks harder and connect the dots like I did, he can make a video on Demon Souls, Dark Souls and Bloodborn are all connected together, just read the description of the spell you get from Midir and pay attention to Gael's behavior and what he spat during the fight
Fearless Q8 those games can't be connected simply because the rights of each one of them are being held by different companies, that sounds more like a fanfiction tbh
Brian Casta that don't make sense, just read the description of that spell and you'll get what I mean
Fearless Q8 aah you mean old moonlight, then maybe you are right. But as i see it, thats probably kind of an easter egg like a 4th wall breaking. Because when it says :" Perhaps it is rooted in an older memory, from not long after the Beginning." it sounds like referring the "beginning" of FROMSOFTWARE when they made the first King's Field (king's field had a moonlight greatsword dropped by a dragon called Seath, and the model of old moonlight is the same one used for the moonlight greatsword)
Brian Casta زلم
OMG.... I just realized something, VaatiVidya we already saw an Angel in Dark Souls, the Darklurker WAS AN ANGEL, he ha sthe feathers, his attacks are light based, his soul is bright and not coated in Abyss like Manus' or Nashandra's, he's resistant to Dark and the whole Darkdiver Grandahl side quest was pretty much to kill the Darklurker, to expunge a being of Light from the Abyss, also in the Darkdiver Grandahl topic, his covenant is called the PILIGRIMS of Dark, could he... be related to Londor?
nice thoughts right there!
EvilRickMaster they could just be based on angels like replicas or something
I always thought the Darklurker was one of the Gods they created in Dark Souls 2. The engraved ring if chosen with the God shows one with 4 wings. Or I think it did.
This is exactly what I always thought, that whole quest in Dark Souls 2 including Grandal and his pilgrims is like a precursor to the Londor faction in my opinion.
Darklurker is another fragment of Manus, just inexplicably holy.
I heard “seeker of the spurned” as “seeker of the sperm”
Pretty disappointed in myself
seeker of the spermed
@@francescolombardi3438 Vaati's accent made me hear the same thing at first too lol
I, too, am disappointed in you.

Fear not the sperm my friend...
Based on 'Dark Souls 3: The Bastard's Curse', and from the Locust Man's dialogue in the Ringed City DLC, we can draw a very starling conclusion. The deep is in no way related to the abyss, but is a separate entity entirely. The Locust man comments on Irina's 'biting insects' not being a part of the deep, and we see from Jerksans that the deep is likely that massive lake. Now if the Way of the White was replaced by the worship of the deep, and Carim was home to the way of the white, then it can be inferred that Carim slowly went to the worship of the Deep. Ergo Irina is not being afflicted by Abyssal humanities, but the inhabitants of the deep which are the insects and the murkmen. Now we also know from that video that Deep is tied with corruption, a real and dangerous corruption of the body and soul. When we look at the spell 'Great Soul Dreg' and the chameleon in the curse swamp(when you become a humanity), we see something unique. While they 'look' the same, they have very big differences. Soul dregs have a black center with dark blue outlines and bright blue eyes. Humanities have a blue center with white outlines and bright white eyes. When we look at 'Frayed Blade' we see how the Abyss is 'eating away' at the blade, reducing it to nothing, similarly to how in the Dark Souls 1 spell 'Dark Fog' we see how it represents humanity's cruelty towards itself. Similarly Artorias and the Dragonslayer armour have their exteriors rusted and eaten away at due to the slow decay of the Abyss or how King Wolnir is simply dragged away into nothing when his protection is removed. By contract those afflicted by 'The Deep' are bloated. Aldritch is a heaving mass of flesh, the 'hollows' that respawn are hosts to masses of maggots and can even form a person from them. Yet much like the Abyss, they are cleansed and driven away by fire, yet the Abyss can form fires of its own, while Deep is made up of water, the antithesis of fire. All of this leaves me to believe that the Deep is more then just a lake, or even a section of the Abyss. Much like how the Profaned Flame, Chaos, Dark Flame are a corruption of Flame, what id 'The Deep' is a corruption of the Abyss itself? It's the Abyss in a twisted corrupt form that is wholly unlike its origin.
Samuel Johnston Interesting theory.
Samuel Johnston I think you meant that her insects weren't a part of the abyss, yes?
Yes, apologies on the error.
But the Pontiff Knight weapons and shield say they've been eaten out by bugs, and Irythyll's connection with the Deep seems to imply that Deep bugs may have caused it.
Samuel Johnston Well put. I hold a similar idea that the deep is to the abyss, or humanity, as chaos fire is to the divine flame and lord souls.
2:12 - 2:20 is all you need to know about combat in dark souls 3
Basically yeah, even magic was dumbed down... I mean "streamlined" to make the game faster. Still ds2 more methodical approach and lots of options to do silly things tickled my fancy more.
amazing how Zullie went on to become one of the best Dark Souls content creators
She can't hack the sadness away :(
if the dreg heaps are in the future, the angels could be a more evolved form of the pilgrim butterfly that appears at Lothric, wich looks almost like a half-made rushed being.
Good point, dreg heap seems to take place where Lothric used to be.
"Finally, if you´re still here...", we were here with you from the beginning and we are never going to forget the stories you told!
Vaati do a reference to how bosses tainted by the abyss become the coolest/hardest bosses in the series (Artorias, Manus, Darkeater Midir, Abyss Watchers, and Gael)
Gael also isn't tainted by the Abyss, per se, he's tainted by the dark soul (which, to be fair, probably created the abyss).
+Thesaurus Rex Speaking of which, how strong is the Dark Soul if it was able to create something as powerful as the Abyss (and the deep if they're not the same thing). From my understanding, each of the 4 lord souls are equally powerful, the Life Soul was able to make all of Demonkind, the Light Soul did all kinds of things like sustain the first flame, and even when it was split given to the four kings it made them immensely powerful, the death soul.. did something (maybe making skeletons a thing?), but the dark soul did so much in the games. Is it because the furtive pygmy didn't use it straight away, meaning as time passed, it accumulated more power, becoming stronger than the other 3 souls, to the point when the power did get used, it created the dark sign in humans, fathered the abyss, etc? Or was it just inheritanty more powerful? How powerful are we in DS1 and DS3, as we absorbed the soul of life, death and light (Bed of Chaos, Nito and Gwyn), or did that not count because we fed those souls to the lord vessel? In DS3, since we absorbed the Dark Soul, which is more powerful (maybe) as well as the souls of other lords of cinders (Yhorm, Aldritch, the Abyss Watchers, Lothric and Lorian, and Ludleth {maybe}) as well as the souls of life, death and light because we slew the soul of cinder which was an amalgam of the souls of Lord of cinders past, including Gwyn (soul of light maybe) and the Chosen Undead (who has the other 3 and maybe Gwyn's)
You forgot to mention Velstadt, the Royal Aegis from Dark Souls 2. He was not as corrupted as Artorias but he was tainted by the abyss/dark.
Gundyr? The first boss of DS3, tainted, easy as hell. Then again you could say Champion Gundyr but I believe that's pre-taint.
+Jo Bones Was he tainted? Hm, than it appears it's counterproductive. Why is it that Gundyr was stronger pre-corruption, shouldn't that have made him stronger than he already was? Or is him being weaker due to old age.
"Don't go off and die now, it's a nicer view with you in it."

Hell yes
After she said that, I used the Rest gesture besides her. Wholesome indeed
Not one mention of Eygon of Carim's invasion in the Ringed City.
mitfox or zoey
zoey isnt an invader though
mitfox wtf Eygon never invades?
@@NeostormXLMAX There in the graves before you reach midir a dark spirit named "Moaning Knight" invades. He is wearing mornes set and wields the same great hammer and shield as Eygon. Kill Eygon in another playthrough and he drops a shield called "moaning sheild". It is a depiction of Eygons older sister and the shield has a special weapon art that moans. It's most likely Eygon.
3 years later but Eygon "should be dead" in Irina's cell. It happends if she turns into a fire keeper.
If not , it's most likely that we killed him.
I know this comment will probably be overlooked but I just wanted to thank you for these videos because I was having a hard time getting through my cardio at the gym and now i put these on and get through with no issue. You're a beast. thanks.
I’m always just so impressed with the level of detail this guy goes into for these explanations!
if ive learned one thing from dark souls its that there is no good and evil, only views. no angels would save, but demons wouldnt destroy. they were both surviving, not out of role but preservation. the abyss isnt evil either, but its not something people liked. even the hollow slayer, a sword cherished by a knight, was cast out from a village as a curse.
Joseph Payne That's a life lesson.

I'm pretty sure rape is evil no matter how you slice it.

Vaati could you tell me the lore how edgy the abyss watchers is? and about their pointy hat.
Yes. Because of this comment I have scheduled in a NEW video about how edgy the abyss watchers are. I have to postpone the giant TRC lore video everyone is waiting on because of this..but I think people will understand! Thank you mate! Pointy hat lore incoming!
VaatiVidya haha
VaatiVidya, you have the best sarcastic humor... I swear if you actually postpone it though for "Pointy hats"...
Too edgy for Vaati.
thx vaati

GODDAMMIT MARIE! IT'S MINERALS!
Underrated comment right here
Funny as fk now that you mentioned it here
Its called minerals dammit!
"This video is getting far too long for the minor characters" Vaati I would literally watch a 3 hour documentary version of all your videos stop SAYING THAT
Dragonslayer Armour is one of my favorite characters. Fighting him for the first time is a moment I won't forget...Getting his Armor is a moment i won't forget either lol
I found something a bit interesting again I think might be useful to some people. The Velka statue in the undead settlement can revive Argo as well, I think it's easier instead of having to fight a Judicator and Ringed Knights just to reach the purging monument
No Body thank you so much for sharing. This is damn useful
You're very welcome, glad to have helped out ^^
Linda Niemkiewicz the boss in dlc
remember poise? Do some lore on poise.
TheGaming Golem poise sucks, the end
best lore
Marc Wheels I mean they did re add it in the patch so it works now
Jalen878 no man, i mean, ds1 poise sucks
it makes the game easier
poise in dark souls 3 (hyper armor) is better IMO
it kinda work still not too good though, unless Im just inept
I'm late to the party, but I just got to the final boss of the dlc and I love your videos. I pieced together as much as I could on my own, but it reveals so much when you consolidate all the information. The lore in both this and ashes of ariendel is amazing.
You put so much effort in to these videos it's fantastic, mate - I hope From Software have thanked you for your brilliant depictions
Alva's story is sad and adorable
Great video, Vaati. Man, despite all of the seeming hate, I love Dark Souls III, and the Ringed City was a fantastic ending to an amazing series. Can't wait for the next vid.
I was still kind of curious about something, and I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere else. We hear the locust people of the swamp in the Ringed City say, "I shall partake" a lot. I mean sure it sounds funny, but what are they actually partaking in? Eating your face? Also, why are they locusts in the first place?
Well there's a lot of talk about "the feast". You "partake" upon a feast.
The locusts were tasked with luring men into accepting the dark/their humanity or something. However most of them only cared about eating, hence why they say that and try to NIBBLE YOU. The the only locust that does his job is the one who speaks with you.
Basically, yes. If you look at the description of the preacher's arm it mentions conjuring a twig to skewer their prey, and if you look at the command grab that happens when they hit you with the 'partake' double twig, most of the damage comes from them biting you. The empty head description also mentions that most locusts think only of their stomachs instead of preaching. So yeah, there is a lot of cumulative evidence that the locusts are 'partaking' of your face/flesh.
eating your face
I thought they say "I shall eat you"
but if you want to be sure, turn on your enlish subtitles (which I sadly don't have access to) and agro a locust that talks to you. If they speak a word it will still be subtitled.
VattiVidya.. Do you think there's a town somewhere in Dark Souls where sentient beings are, they live and have a peaceful time. In this town is a tavern where warriors and various other beings sit down and drink, have a lovely ol'chat and such?
skilladunge Well, in Dark Souls there are a lot of "normal" countries, but we get to explore only the most messed up places (Lordran, Drangleic, Lothric)
skilladunge I think other countries like Mirrah and Vinheim were pretty peaceful until they fell.
In Dark Souls 1 and 2, definitely. You hear about tons of lands that are normal. (As normal as a fantasy land can be)
In Dark Souls 3, maybe? The whole world seems to be falling apart, so I'm not sure there's many normal places left.
Catarina is probably like that.
there were towns like that before , but we only arrive when everything is crumbling down
I'm nearing the end of the DLC with a buddy. I'm truly saddened that the souls series is coming to an end. It has brought me immeasurable joy. Thank you for your videos of lore, they make the journey so much deeper and more enjoyable. You're the man VAATI!
This may be a bit late for your 20 things video, but I've been experimenting with the Lothric Buff Banner. There are a few interesting aspects to its weapon art.
1) You need to keep the banner in an active equipment slot to keep the buff going, like the Pyromancer's Parting Flame.
2) The buff is a continuous AOE buff centered on the user. This means you can lose the buff by running away from the banner holder, and gain the buff by running back into the AOE.
3) It boosts spell damage.
4) For some reason the buff continuously triggers whatever on-hit effect the weapon in your right hand has (need to put the banner in your off-hand). For example, the Chaos Blade will cause you to continuously lose health, the Corvian Scythe will cause bleed to continuously build up, and the Butcher Knife will constantly regenerate your health. The most interesting interaction is with the Handmaid's Dagger. Not only do you get some impressive FP regen, but the dagger glows purple for some reason. In addition, if you two-hand the banner in your off-hand while you have the dagger in your main hand, the banner starts glowing purple as well.
I thought the bug npc was speaking about artorious being reunited with Sif in the abyss
If the Locust Preachers are telling stories of how the Abyss helped people, that would be a really bad story to tell. :P
GrandDracolich fair point lol
Preacher: Long ago, some dude with a ponytail tried to kill a god of corrupted darkness. He failed, sacrificing an arm and his sanity to save his pet dog. Now, countless eons later, they are reunited in the darkness.
Congregation: Wasn't the darkness the thing that tried to kill him in the first place?
Preacher: Midi-chlorians!
Congregation: That...that doesn't explain anything.
I dont know man, the "angels" in the ringed city, I dont think they are the same angels that once visited Lothric, if nothing else, there are no feathers on their wings, looking at Lorthic and Lorian boss arena, angels in lothric had big feathered wings, or they had a pet bird big af to leave that many feathers behind
Angels got better at reducing shedding with *Mr. Clean's Feather Duster,* now available at a handmaid near you for 612 souls a pack!
The feathers are from the winged knights
I have a theory for everything that happens after the small white church with a boss in it. Spoilers for all, who haven't played this far.
My theory is that Lord Gwyn casted a spell on Filianore to show us the future, not only of the Lothric cycle, but of the entire world. He protected his daughter this much because he wanted to make sure that, whoever enters this vision, can deal with the things in it. Maybe it wasn't Gael in this vision as Gwyn build the Ringed City around Filianore and the pygmies, but he knew, that it would all end with somebody taking the dark soul. He was also aware of Ariamis and her painted world so he knew the "ingredients" to paint, create a new world. We also get to know this last ingredient by the painting girl: A world in Dark Souls NEEDS a dark soul. There can't be humanity or life without it. So if this dark soul fades, nothing can stop the world from dying anymore. Not even a rekindling of the first flame. The only characters who survived everything (Gael, Patches, Alva,...) weren't a hollow as the first flame was rekindled. They didn't die because they had humanity or human effigies inside them which are indeed little parts of the dark soul of men. In Dark Souls 3 however, there is only ember to consume, so I guess that everyone living now is finally hollowing and will die with the next rekindling of the flame. And Gwyn hoped that the one who gets this far in his Ringed City would be able to understand all this and, instead of rekindling again, would create this new world in the painting with the help of the dark soul.
And maybe, the world of Dark Souls with Lordran, Drangleic, Lothric is only a painting from long, long ago :)
I liked the locust preacher most. He was actually trying to do something without actually killing you in the process, while mentioning old characters in his "Fear not the dark" references.
Cant wait till the lore of the DLC bosses video. I love this channel.
With their hood-like heads, hole faces, skinny bodies and pronounced ribs, the Murkmen somewhat remind me of giants from Dark Souls II.
Yeah I thought they looked like them/the seed of a tree of giants.
Icipall All Giants have a hole for a face, the giants we see in game have a helmet/mask over it. I've noticed that.
Icipall baby giants
Christopher Sebastiao Yhorm the giant...
Something that struck me with Lapp is that, lapp in swedish(and probably other languages too) means patch. Which is very fitting for the character, no?
Vimple she is Pathpches sou know right?
Well, if you get to the end of his sidequest...
If you play the game in Sweden, is the name going to be Lapp?
Vimple I can guarantee that you just saw that on the wiki
@Malevolent Eluci, your guarantee doesn't mean much then, cause I didn't. Noticed it the first time i played the game, same voice actor as Patches and a name as "Lapp", not to mention what happens in the quest. I'm swedish, didn't take much to notice
I actually have to disagree with your point that Prince Lothric wasn't opposed to the angelic faith. Londor's goal is to usurp the flame, not to extinguish the it.
This difference in motivation is reflected by the endings. Specifically, by the Eclipse that appears near the end of the game. Initially the corona is an orangish red, which throughout the series is the color of Flame, The Age of Fire, the Lord Souls, Embers, Lords of Cinder, and the Darksign.
If you choose to let it fade, then the corona, and the flame with it, softly fade into darkness. It is this ending that the Prince desires. He desires an end to the flame, no more cinders, ashes, or embers, nothing. He is unknowingly following in the footsteps of another who lived long ago. Another ancient King destined to link the fire, but rejected this fate and alongside his elder brother, sought another path.
(I split up this comment because I realize that it is a DOOZY)
When the flame is instead usurped however, the world does not pass into darkness. The Corona turns from the reddish orange of fire, to a pale, almost ghostly white. It is a colder, harsher light. Very similar to the color of the Divine Pillars of Light miracle. The same light of the Angels of Londor. In the eyes of the gods, and those who Revere the Fire, the very existence of the Angels and their light is the ultimate heresy because it is a light of Man's own design. It is a false light, for it is light that is born from Darkness. If the prince yearned for the end of fire and light, then I would venture to guess that he would be less than enthusiastic about the idea of simply having a different light take it's place
Vandole you do remember a person can change can you? He’s specifically stated as a tyrant and usurper of power in irithyll, he was also a great sorcerer when he was young so that would explain why he was at some point in his life in the high sorcerer court, I do believe that Sulyvahn is one of the main reasons responsible for that cycle’s demise along side aldritch.
Vandole and also, the pontiff is a bitch in every sense of the word both lore wise and gameplay wise
@@agentc7020
Didn't we agree that Pontiff Sulyvahn was a Corvian from the Painted World? I've read that he left because the world outside didn't hurt him in a way that would compel him to stay. Even so, he saw that his brethren were rejected or otherwise hurt by the outside world in some way and wanted to avenge their pain. Since the painted world was originally designed by the gods as a prison for Priscilla, he must have thought that the gods were responsible for making his friends and family miserable, so he plotted to overthrow the old divine royalty.
David Hong nope, Sulyvahn did not fit in the world where nobody fit (the painted world), so he left and tried to become somebody, he might have been good at some point in his life but I’m slightly confident in saying that he probably got corrupted when he entered the profaned capital and saw the profaned flame, from that point on he only got worse and worse
Been lurking, watching these vids, once I've completed the areas. And this vid (I'm only about 3:26 in), seems the most elaborately done. I love how you switch the armor sets, makes it quite the narrative. Nibbles away at the suspension of disbelief. Makes it like a dream sequence. Well done. Looking forward to more (whatever the platform)!
Your voice is so soothing. I've just been letting these videos play and relaxing. The information is interesting too, but I could just listen to you tell stories.
Guts, Casca, and Schierke
Gosh, but Zulie here kinda torture Alva first lmao
Come on vaati, when are you going to participate in "who wants to be a soullionare? You are by far the most requested guy
So much better than matpat
what isnt better than matpat?
Marcus Zyker I agree but his last video wasn't so bad. He made a decent point that I don't think anyone else looked at
brucenbrooklyn I want to agree but he padded out the whole thing to make it a two parter
Marcus Zyker yeah that got me pretty pissed. He was just trying to make TH-cam happy and get that money. Going into his video I expected nothing good but I will admit the theory he came up with was interesting. Dark souls is all about finding your own way to make sense of it all and I'm sure there are some theories people follow that others won't.
Agreed. I like Mat and his work but he should just really leave Dark Souls lore to the professional
idk if you heard, but Mimic released another Dark Souls song yesterday, it's called "A Wayfarer's Heart" it's about Alva
I have goose bumps all over my body. Thanks Vlaati, you are doing great!
Does Lapp's dialogue
SPOILERS
Indicate that Patches in DS3 is the same Patches from DS1 when you finish his quest line?
Ahad Zeb as soon as i figured out it was Patches, I immediately thought that it was ds1 patches.
Ahad Zeb well patches like u went trough multiple ages tricking fools and always surviving and ended up here without his memory(lapp means patch in swedish lol)so it is very possible its the same from ds1 and ds3 the main game for that matter
patches is like the main character he hunts for the dark soul but goes off of your progression like he just waits for you to advance so he can steal the benefits.
I think his dialogue indicates that, at the very least, the same Patches appears in DS1, DS3, and the Ringed City.
I'm curious as to where he went after he kicked you off the ledge. I can't find him again after that. Did he die trying to find the dark soul or did he go to a different age that says they will make a dark souls 4?
I always tought that the dragonslayer armour looked weird in DS3, and now that I myself got a close look on the new set, I have to admit, it looks nothing like Ornstein's armour. This leads me to believe that it may be the armour of a different dragonslayer
Mister Duch You're late. We know this for a long time. Dragonslayer Armour is most likely Nameless King's armor.
Azdie and YOURE late. The dragonslayer armor is thought to be "the dragonslayer that served them both" both referin to the suns first born(nameless king) and ornstein.
Mister Duch Of course it is mate. Ornsteins armour can be found in Archdragon peak after the Nameless King fight.
Mister Duch Of course it is mate. Ornsteins armour can be found in Archdragon peak after the Nameless King fight.
+headbite alien wasn't the consensus that it was a replacement armour?
No more dark souls series = no more vaatividya videos my guys.. rip.
well... dks vaati vids
Dee Scott there are still more stuff he can cover. He can go back to bb if he wants.
Dee Scott i think from is working on bb2 but im not sure
Dee Scott there's a possibility of Bloodborne 2 so
I won't hold my breathe. Could be in the next 4 years from now. But still VaatiVidya could go on to do other things with his channel. But, VaatiVidya's channel was founded on DS.
Thanks for the videos Vaati. Seriously, they make my days.
Small detail, idk if anyone has pointed this out yet, but when Alva invades you in the base game as Seeker of the Spurned, he does so at the entrance of the dungeon where the witch who teaches you dark magics is being held. Alva's presence there makes a lot more sense now that it's known he was seeking a witch. It could be that he heard a rumour of a dark witch being held there and wrongfully believed it to be Zullie
Hi Vaati, I wanted to share this theory with you. My theory is that Sister Friede forced Ludleth into linking the fire. The reason as to why I think this is because of how manipulative Friede is towards Araindel. Perhaps she met Ludleth back when he was just the king of Courland (I'm guessing this because of his crown) and then controlled him in a similar way to how Nashandra did to the Iron King (was it the Iron King? I can't remember), but unlike Nashandra, Friede forced him to link the fire by using violence against him. This could be connected to Ludleth's nightmare were he wants to be acknowledged now as a lord, maybe, towards her. Or perhaps Ludleth stole her chance of becoming a lord by linking the fire himself
Then, when Ludleth is resurected, Friede comes back as well (since she is unkindled). Maybe Ludleth knew already that she was the one going after him, so he decided to crawl all his to Firelink Shrine, leaving her without a purpose. She now had nowhere to go, nowhere to belong, thus entering the painting of Ariandel.
I know it sounds kinda stretched, but that is because Ludleth doesn't have that much lore yo work with either way. Hope you read this
I don’t really think Friede is that because she’s a one of the three founding sisters of the sable church, she could in theory be connected to Ludleth because every lord has a connection with one unkindled but I don’t know like you said it seems kind of a stretch
Just wondering, if Lorian slayed the demon prince, did he venture in the ringed city aswell?
Michele Vincenzi I don't think so. But it could be possible. If he did then how did he get there?
Michele Vincenzi probably not since the demon prince is dead and that wut u fight is the power of the demon prince summoned at the end of the world by the demon bros.u see some things that die end up in the dreg heap in a changed fashion.for example the theory that says emma after death became the hag woman (first npc u meet)and ended up at the end of the world.at least thats my take on it
I thought about him going in the ringed city since he doesnt want to link the fire, and he's waiting for the age of fire to fade, maybe he saw or discovered something that made him refuse to link the fire like his brother
Michele Vincenzi lothric is the one that refused and lorian out of love followed him if ik correctly.altho I think he slayed the demon prince to protect lothric
AverageSoul Yes, but i thought he decided to follow his brother because he ventured the ringed city, but cant find anything so its probably just a random theory
5:20 That highly contradicts with what we know about the Abyss from New Londo and Oolacile though.
I just can't take that seriously.
Sephyrias I thought that what corrupted oolacile wasn’t proper abyss, just manus’s corrupted humanity.
Vaati, you are the best and you always will be. Thank you for everything. You are the best producer of Dark Souls videos. You have opened my eyes and so many others, to all of this. Thank you again. You are a special person for doing all you have for all of us. Thank you from the bottom of all of our hearts. You are great.
I love your videos, I mean really, no one else does lore videos better than you in my opinion. You are the channel that got me into dark souls lore back when I played the first game, so thanks for doing such great videos, love ya keep the good work up.
Ledo is my favorite from this. In my first DS1 run ever I played a Silver Knight that I put a hood on to look like a wanderer and loved Havel's heavy weapons. When I got this weapon about a wandering Silver Knight who was buddies with Havel I felt like From gave me personally a gift!
If only someone would tell me what music is playing at 13:06 ... those choirs are beautiful
It's "choir hymn" by Magnus Ringblom.
Thank you for finding it :)
The music that begins at 13:06. What is it called? I couldn't find it in the posted link. I would really appreciate it.
I believe it's "Choir Hymn" by Magnus Ringblom
@@AlbertKreuger thank you
and respect for shouting out JSF. not only is his souls content great, but his bb content is impeccable.
After watching your video on this I'm tempted to play the game and start making a wizard build. Those spells look lethal.
I'm not sure anyone will see this nor if it's already widely known but the usurpation ending of Dark Souls 3 changes the colour scheme of the sun to that of a humanity, with it being black with white round the edges. Could be hinting that that's the begging get of the true age of man or something.
I'm a simple man, I see a Vaati video I click like.
I dunno why i misheard spurn as sperm
Dan Niton me too
so glad that you shared JSF's video
You are my favourite content creator. Just favourite. Because your content is so hard to pull off. You have to build the story from eventually little talks to npcs and weapons. And Your voice... When I am so tired and can't really watch anything. I always open your videos in a loop, I watched all of them ofcourse. Your videos are so relaxing and the emotion I am getting is real. You are using the game so well that this storytelling reaches a level that I am not getting anywhere else. Maybe the nearest channel to this is Nerdwriter1. You are amazing. Please continue your work. I saw the digital arts. I am a blockchain developer and have a team. If you wish I am always ready to make your nft collection. This is not a commercial or I am not trying to sell myself. I just admire your work bro. Thank you for turning Dark Souls my favourite game to my favourite story, lore. You are a talented guy.
Isnt the one that locked havel in the tower is the dead blacksmith in darkroot? he has the key. vaati is crazy
Zullie is the witch of mods and cut content
i love how there's a romantic comedy anime in a dark fantasy game
I can't wait for you to explain this DLC and how it pertains to everything. I'm just not convinced with Game Theory lol
The bit with the angels explains a lot why most of the information about the angelic faith is in the grand archives with the scholars.
Just a reminder that Slave Knight Gael is literally miyazaki and the berserk community collectively jizzing over guts.
I'm pretty sure Alva and such are based on the story of Jason and the Argonauts.
New patron here. Are any other patrons able to find the new "20 secrets in The Ringed City" video? I can't find it anywhere.
Now the statue of the primordial serpent being an angel make sence if the angels seek to extinguish the fire, the statue is Kaathe.
JFS for the win! been loving his videos on the souls/borne games. Very informative!
What's the music track at the murkmen segment? It's beautiful.
I was just wondering the same thing. Did you ever find out?
@@christopherogima5918 From what I can tell, it's "Choir Hymn" by Magnus Ringblom
"Choir Hymn" by Magnus Ringblom, I think
@@AlbertKreuger Hey, thank you very much! I appreciate it!
I doubt any of you will read this, but thanks. I searched for this song for good 4 years since I first heard it and forgot where. Thank you.
zullie is sielke from berserk
*Schierke. But most definitely yes.
Do you really blame anyone for misspelling such a name
Well in Japanese you can't pronounce L and they say it as R so in translation AND the correct way of pronouncing it is as D-Rabbit wrote.
But then he still spelled it wrong, it should be Schielke. But yeah, it's spelled in English as it is pronounced in Japanese.
The name was derived from the word "Silk" so the correct way is just "Silk". Either of you being wrong is just matter of perspective, neither is wrong entirely. I'll give you an example: In Naruto one of the characters is called "Sarada" which came from the word "Salad". Due to the limits of Japanese language it was converted to "Sarada". Same with "Boruto", which came from "Bolt".
dark souls 4 is gonna end up being a Bible instead of a game.
Mykol Martinez there isnt gonna be dark souls 4
@jepukebu97
not until From needs money
Bloodborne made more money than dark souls 3 so most likely bb2
jepukebu97 Did you enjoy bloodborne more than souls? I certainly thought it was harder but it'll appear that way when you get rid of blocking. (don't bring up the plank shield)
Mykol Martinez well the combat was much more enhanced but the pvp was lacking so if they bring bb back I hope they will bring some sort of pvp arena and I enjoyed how they removed turteling meta completely I think it made dark souls way too easy
A lore video about anything can never be too long
Damnit Vaati I'm trying to pay attention to dis lore and you got the funniest visuals like the humanity or that pilgrim running away during hte demon fight. Gave me the giggle
Vaati, do you think the Old Moonlight sorcery is a reference to the Sword of Moonlight in Demon's Souls? The description says it is different to Seath's moonlight greatsword, and then it goes on to say, "Perhaps it is rooted in an older memory, from not long after the Beginning." That word "beginning" made me think of the opening cutscene from DeS, which starts with "in the beginning...", and DeS came before Dark Souls so it's technically an "older memory". Any thoughts?
Probably a Kingsfield reference rather than Demon's Souls. Although there is a Paledrake Seath in the Kingsfield series as well if I remember correctly.
What is the ending music track with the chorus? I checked Marc's album and couldn't seem to find it. Thanks!
Does anyone know which song plays at Murkmen 13:11?
“Choir Hymn” by Magnus Ringblom
People say Morgan Freeman or Bob Ross have soothing voices, but when I wanna go to sleep, I just watch some Vaati DS lore videos and I'm out like a light. Love you Vaati.
You know there is other evidence that not only is Filionore a child of Gwin, but we know that she is the youngest daughter. As shown by the description that is on the banner that you use to get to the ringed city. It says that Gwin gave the pygmies the ringed city and his youngest daughter, he said he would come back for her one day.
What's fun that this angel has zero feathers on him. He looks like more formed pilgrim butterfly, and his wings are made of vines and stuff.
Can anyone explain how our age ended long ago? Vaati mentioned it at the beginning of the video when he talks about the Dragon Slayer Armor, and I guess I'm confused about the timeline. How much time has passed between us linking the fire (or any other ending), and traveling to the ringed city?
Not so much, since we link the fire when Lothric's castle is already on the top of the dreg heap. The time leap is when you go from Firelink Shrine to the Kiln of the First Flame, and it's been at least some decades after king Lothric's death (it may be even more time, tho).
Okay, that makes sense. Thanks!
I disagree with Pizzifrizzo, a lot of time has passed between Lothric and the Ringed City. You leap forward in time to when even lothric has fallen. This is clear by the Dragonslayer Armor description as well as you visit some Lothric ruins while inside the Dreg Heap. The Lothric War Banner also talks about the knights being from long ago.
When you put the 5 lords of cinder into their thrones, the bonfire sends you to a firelink shrine thousands of years ahead in time, you can see the dreg heap from the kiln of the first flame, you kill soul of cinder at the age time the dlc passes, the end of the world, even the eclipse is the same.
Considering all characters left in the world by the time of Dark Souls 3 are Undead, and thus immortal, they have been alive for potentially thousands of years even if they/we don't realize it.
The murkmen kind of have face holes like the messengers from bloodborne
*_I hope you mention all the fun things you can do with Midir's Soul. Frayed Blade and Old Moonlight cause some enemies in the Ringed City as well as the The Dreg Heap to do funny things._*
VaatiVidya I get real hyped when you make a new video, but especially now. so many questions about the ringed city...
