I use those exact stitch markers to keep track of my rows. So handy!

Amazing sock tutorial ! I have watched sooo many tutorials, and for some reason stumbled with the cast-on time after time. I persevered though, and interestingly enough came full circle back to your 3 part tutorial, and am delighted to report that yours has finally “clicked” with me. I have never knitted in the round before, and I’m pretty sure you would have had a friendly chuckle at the many blunders I’ve made along the way 😂 I’m now happily bubbling along with my first sock and am almost up to the heel. So, I wanted to express my gratitude for making these tutorials. Your voice and delivery is calm and soothing. Many thanks from Australia 🇦🇺😀

Ohhhh that’s WHY it’s called an “afterthought heel.”

THis series is incredibly helpful! Thank you. I'm casting on my FIRST pair and after watching this far, I'm surprised I've been so intimidated to knit socks. YAY!

NeonPeachKnits I’m so happy to hear that!! They’re not as difficult as people think, but still totally impressive. 😉 Can’t wait to see your socks!

Hi Natalie, thank you so much, I can get back to my socks that use an after thought heel, they have been waiting for a least two years, now I can finish them.

Thank you for making this so easy. You gave me the courage to finally try knitting socks with an after thought heel. You said to knit the foot portion 2 inches shorter than you need. So let's say my foot length from heel to toe is 6 inches. I would knit 4 inches from the waste yarn point forward, and then knit my toe and kitchener the ends. And then go back and remove the waste yarn and knit in the after thought heel. Is that correct? You made the process easy. I'm just getting hung up on how to calculate where to put what in. Thanks!

Hey Cristina! It's not you, I realize I didn't make that super clear in the video- so sorry! Let's start with your TOTAL foot length from the edge of your heel to the tip of your toe. Mine is 9 inches and I wear a US women's 8 shoe! I subtract 2" for the toe AND about 2" for the heel. That leaves me with 5" to knit for the foot portion. So try subtracting about 4" from your total foot length. The absolute best way to do this for the first sock is to knit a sock cuff down, knit a couple inches on your foot, then add in the after-thought heel before you finish the foot. This way you can try the sock on to know exactly where to place the toe! After this, you will be able to count the rows in the foot and knit other socks just like the first one. I hope that helps!

@@KnittyNatty thank you!!!! That is so helpful!!! I kind of thought 2 inches wasn't enough for heel and toe. So I wanted to double check. I'm at the point where I need to add in waste yarn. And your tip sounds perfect for a first time after thought heel knitter. I would rather do that than frog half of the sock. Hahaha thank you again for the info and tips! Its been very helpful! 😊
