After years of trying for socks I just found your trick for the round and omg i get it now!!!! I am now almost done working the cuff thinggy and getting ready to start my sock!!! You are now my favorite knitting go to ! Thank you!!!!!! You make it so easy to understand❤
Thank you, again, for your tutorials. Friends, whom I had asked about knitting in the round, only use DPN’s, so couldn’t help me. Your 1st (Basic Sock) cast-on I have found informative and invaluable, so much so that I have e managed to switch to your method of knitting socks and can continue to enjoy using my Chaigoos.
I hope you get comments on these older vids. This was so interesting and incredibly helpful. Thank you so much. I’m about to binge-watch the rest of your content!
I've been knitting for 30 years, but I've been afraid of trying socks. I finally watched enough basic videos to get confident enough to try a very basic toe up, magic loop, German short row heel sock, and I've been doing fine with it. But I was afraid to try anything more complicated, like gussets and heels flaps. I watched your gusset tutorial (Part 3) and it seems so easy! Increases, decreases, and picking up stitches, I've done all of that before, maybe I should try! I'll be following this tutorial for my next pair. Thank you for making these videos. :)
I have just finished my 1st pair of socks 😀 and I love it. I used magic loop and the tutorial was easy to follow. My sister will be trying it as well. Thank you so much 💓
I have been obsessed with learning how to make socks for a couple of years. I have even paid for classes. You’re video is the best. Crystal clear step by step. I love it. Can’t wait to post a picture of my new socks. Thank you and happy knitting.
Demystified! I do believe I will be able to knit a sock! These videos are so great I actually got butterflies watching the progression. Socks have confused me unril now. You are a wonderful teacher and a wonderful human being for sharing your skill and knowledge. I love you!
I've started a knitted shawl and socks are my next project. After crocheting since age 5 I became obsessed with learning to knit socks . Thus the reason I'm hear lol . Thank you for the great easy to understand video. Great for beginners like myself.. Knitting for dummies needed here 🙄😂💜.I actually really love the calmness that comes with knitting. It's a great destress project. Blessings from NM. Subscribed and liked and will be sharing w friends.
Thanks so much for this sock tutorial. I'm 3/4 through a pair and I made the first sock so long ago I couldn't remember how to turn the heel! I knew it was wrong while I was doing it, but I had one of those brain lapses that was just not linking up the right info. I love this yarn. I read down below to find out it's Lion Brand Wool Ease. It makes a nice hunky and cozy sock that looks just great for winter. I'm about to make a pair for my husband with a snowflake pattern on the cuff, and this looks perfect. Also readily available here in stores, and not a yarn I would have thought of for socks.
You are a goooood teacher!!!!! It would be phenomenal to do neutral bulky yarn for us challenged newbies!!! A bit more close up too! You are the very best I’ve found so far!!!!!!
Yesterday I completed my first sock thanks to your tutorial - I wanted to understand what was going on and customise my sock as I went rather than following a prescribed pattern, and your tutorial was perfect for this. Thank you so much!
This series is tremendous work because I've never before seen the magic loop explained so well plus the next video about heel flap & turn is the best explanation I've ever seen. My socks now turn out brilliantly & I'm thrilled to give them as gifts this Christmas season.
I've been struggling with sock making (my Mum did it so we'll) Thanks to your excellent video, I can do it now! You break it down brilliantly and make it so much better than worrying if I got the stitches right. You are a star x
@@PurlTogether I'm not an active member of any Ravelry groups, but think it's about time I was. Currently working on my first ever gusset and heel turn ( all previous socks were GSR toe up) so will definitely post in your group. X
I have just spent about 2 months trying to understand a sock knitting pattern. I have watched your first 3 videos today and now it all makes sense! The pattern is going in the bin and I am going to just follow you! Thank you so much for this! Xx
Jana I finished a pair of socks using your Videos. I have to admit it was fun. The socks came out very beautiful. I specially liked the 'heel' instructions for reinforcing the heel. Also the instructions for Kitchener stitch were excellent. I am looking for your socks calculator. Where can I find it?
I know you did these socks awhile ago but would you remember which brand and color yarns you used. I would like to make a pair as slipper socks also! Great job on this video, you are a natural teacher!
The yarn was just some Lion Brand WoolEase sportweight that I've had in my stash for a long time. I believe the lighter color was "wheat." And the contrasting heels/toes are also Lion Brand WoolEase in worsted weight. I don't recall the color name. Thanks for watching!
After I finish casting off I start knitting with tail on back needle does it matter any you pull out your front needle and knit the back one does it matter which one
I'm assuming that you mean to say casting on. You'll want to begin by knitting across the needle that is the closest to you. In this video at 7:05 I kind of turn the work toward me and the needle that was in back of the cable, becomes the front needle from there on out. I can see what that looks confusing, so hopefully my answer makes sense. th-cam.com/video/eUmQl0Zh5g0/w-d-xo.html
WONderful tute! Thank you 🥰👏 I am trying to learn how to knit socks using Addi Flex Flip needles. How can I knit these socks using your approach but using Flexi needles?
I tagged you on a video in the Facebook group. However, since ribbing looks the same on both sides, you'll know if you're on the Right Side because if you started your ribbing with K2, those will be the first to sts at the beginning of your round. Hope that makes sense.
Have you measured your knitting so that you know how many stitches per inch you get with your chosen needle and yarn combination? The size of your shoe generally refers to the length, not the circumference. You'll want to knit a swatch to see how many stitches per inch you get. I'd also suggest this updated version of the videos th-cam.com/play/PLNWbWGGFfxXnClP7lljZNuMDlqXIDttie.html
Jana please help. Making my son a basic pair of socks with Patons Kroy yarn, calls for size 2 needle, doing Magic Loop. Should I cast on 64,68,or 72 ? It’s a surprise for his birthday, so I can’t measure his foot. He wears a size 12 shoe. Thanks.
Thanks . I would like very much to try to knit a pair of socks. I need needles and special yarn as well . Is there a way to knit socks flat?? Probably not. Thanks, again.
OK I seem to have a problem accessing the sock calculator. Something a block on my IP address except this is the first time I've actually used my account or subscribed. So very puzzled. Enjoying the video though and should be able I guess to work it out from that.
Jana, I looked through comments below and see that you used size 4 circulars and in the video you mention you would personally use size 0 or 1, but larger needles for video. What length size circulars are best for use when doing magic loop knitting socks?
You can try it from the Ravelry like. But there are several others found by just searching "sock calculator" on Ravelry www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/sock-u-lator-sock-pattern-generator
I added my numbers in the sock calculator and it is wrong, it gave me 68 stitches where I normally use 54, I just need enough sts to get over my heel. Where is the calf to measure is it s the length or width. I will start. Once I hear from you.
Two questions: first, how many stitches per inch are you knitting with your chosen yarn and needles? Second, the calculator indicates that the program gives a pretty short sock length. Meaning the leg portion of the sock isn't very long. You can adjust that by entering a different number of inches for your preference
You'd simply divide the number of stitches you have on the 3 dpns. I'd recommend that you check your local library for Folk Socks by Nancy Bush. Her Classic Sock pattern is written for dpns.
Hi Jean, skip ahead to 3:27 where I mention the Long Tail Cast On method. Shortly after, you'll see a link pop up in the upper right hand corner where you can click top jump over to a video just for that cast on method. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.
Well, some of that depends upon how big your feet are! But generally you can get an average adult size pair of socks from 350-400 yds of yarn or around 320-365 meters. Oh.. and that same gal that brilliantly shared the sock calculator has a yarn estimator too! Check it out: www.thedietdiary.com/blog/lucia/592
To create a flat piece of knitting, you'd knit the first row, turn your work and purl row 2 back to where you began. Then knit a row, purl a row. If you knit each row, you'll have garter stitch, with ridges.
What you'll use will depend upon your gauge and what size needle, yarn combo gets you the density of the fabric that you like. New knitters tend to knit pretty tightly and sometimes need to go up a needle size. I knitted this pair for the videos on size 4 circular needles that I got from Knit Picks. The yarn is Lion Brand WoolEase that I've had in my stash forever.
@@PurlTogether Hello! How do you find that WoolEase "wears", in comparison to a wool/nylon type blend for socks? Do you find that one outlasts the other? Thanks!
The sock yarn containing a 20-25% nylon will outlast the acrylic. I also just like it better. I used this for the video, since it was thicker and easy to see onscreen for beginners.
Am I right in seeing that you knit from the front needle to the back needle? I've always seen it done using the back needle to the front, now I"m confused.
YELLOW SPONGE try filling a frying pan with water, let it get WARM and holding one needle in each hand run the cord through the water. Kinda going back and forth like a seesaw...that should relax it enough to allow you to bend it better. Hope that helps! Good luck! 👍🏻😊

9 sts across 9 rows .
