    NO FEAR SOCK KNITTING CLASS ONLINE
    Class #1: Getting Started
    In today's class we are going to cover all the basics you will need to get stared on your sock knitting journey. There were so many questions about needles, yarn and supples that I thought it best to address this first so everyone would be prepared and ready to start sock knitting in the next class.

      You and I both! I had to retire early to take care of my husband. I normally sew all the time but I have been knitting and crocheting since I was 7 years old. I’m almost 60 and started making socks about 12 years ago... I still have trouble with the kitchener stitch🤦🏽‍♀️. New subscriber here! Thank you so much!!!

    I really, really appreciate this class for free. As a fairly new knitter, I found it so hard to find answers to my questions, particularly concerning sock techniques; heel placements, heel types, how to not make my cuff so tight I can't get my new sock easily. Trial and error have gotten me along so far, but having things like available is just wonderful!! Thank you so very much!

    • @kathryngardener1930
      @kathryngardener1930 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      My favourite way of getting socks to not be too tight to get over my heel is to cast on double the stitches required, then for the first row work into every other loop. You end up with lots of stretch and a slightly scalloped edge. If you don,t want the scallop then knit and purl two stitches together across the whole first round.

    Thank you so much for this sock class! I love and have knit socks before, but I am looking forward to learning new techniques and tips from you. I have been away from knitting for over ten years and just within the last two weeks have gotten back into it. I have been binge-watching knitting podcasts and am so very happy to have found you just this past week. I recently went through my old stash of yarn and have a bunch of sock yarns! I sure hope sock yarn does not have a "shelf life" and that it is all still good to use. I might however treat myself to some new needles. Thanks again Denise, this is such a great opportunity. I have to laugh at how terminology changes. I called yarn, like the Kroy, a skein of yarn. The Legacy Fiber Arts would be hank. The hank would have to be wound into a ball. either on a yarn winder or 'by hand'.

    I'm so happy I found your podcast. I have knit a few pair of socks, but I'm excited to learn in an organized way. I always have knitting with me just for those moments when I'm waiting for things. I often get comments from people, "I wish I had your kind of time". Since I haven't bent the space/time continuum we are living through the same time. I'm knitting, you're on FaceBook or playing solitaire. I'm not knocking those pursuits, but you have the same time I do. Also implicit in those comments is that I'm a lazy bum who has nothing to do all day but knit, as opposed to the busy lives of the people playing candy crush. Again, I do all of the above things in addition to knitting. They all have their place.

    Denise, any tips for getting used to the tiny skinny needles? They hurt my hands when I try to do anything beyond a plain vanilla sock like a M1 or decrease.

    Yay so excited it's started. Been knitting almost a year and just started my sock. I've got the cuff and body down but it's the heel, gusset, and toe that worries me.

    My mom learned fiber arts like, 45 years ago. She was broke broke, back then, so she basically only used acrylic yarns. She made some beautiful knits for us kids, though.
    I've been knitting on and off for most of my life, but I never really "got" it. So, I started crochet, a couple months ago, and that made sense, to me. I've bought some really beautiful yarns that may be too "good" for me. So as to not waste them, I just used the same yarns to repeatedly make items, and then carefully took them apart. Repeat, over and over again. 😅 I've made 2 pairs of crochet socks that are worth keeping, so far.
    But, now I'm realising that knit socks are better in a lot of ways. Soooo, I guess it's time to try to get back into knitting.
    I am really tough on socks. I end up going through them really quickly (nerve injury that left me with an uneven gait), so I'd love to learn to make cute, sturdy colourwork socks. ☺️

    Excellent class! I’m a long time sock knitter and I have to second Payton’s Kroy. I have tons of various fingering/sock yarn and love them all, but i always say you can’t mess up with Kroy. Btw, I use 2 16 inch Addi Sock Rockets and toe up.

    Really enjoyed your video. Is it wrong to pull the yarn from the inside of a wound cake? Seems tight to pull and is that had for the yarn? I've tried and pulled out 4 socks....one had a nice upper part but the foot looked like it should fit Skrek! Maybe cuz it was a beautiful green Alpine Meadows from Polka Dot Sheep yarns hand dyed near me in Whitefish, MT! I look forward to the next class.

    I wanted to thank you so much for these great sock knitting classes. I have knitted a few socks, but I really want to knit more socks this year and want to learn to knit different heels. I was so excited when I saw that you said you keep a little notions bag on each of your project bags. I do the same and I created a little toolkit which now I keep on each of my project bags and last year, after I retired as a social worker, I decided to start making and selling them. I was wondering if I could send one of them to you as a gift for you to let me know what you think? I’m super excited that I found your TH-cam and Instagram and I will be binge watching all of your videos now … I love your beautiful and soothing voice and way of presenting yourself 💗🧶

    Ok, I am getting all my material together so I can start to knit my first pair of socks. And thank you for sharing and walking us through this, I have been knitting for about 2 years and it is a love hate relationship. I am so scared of messing it up or get frustrated and throw it across the room, but, practice is the only way to be come proficient at it. So I am jumping head first and can't wait to mess up and learn from it instead of running away, this is all because of you. Thank you again.

    Hi there! I am new to sock knitting and have fallen in love with your classes, I am circling back here to ask about yarn. You mentioned a blend is best, if I have a 100% superwash that I am considering knitting into socks, would you recommend knitting with a second strand of fiber, or is it not worth it and to use the superwash for a shawl? Thank you so much!

    Just found your channel! Love it and the way you teach! Will be binge watching over the next few days. I’ve been knitting for quite a few years, but always love learning new techniques and refreshing myself on old ones. On the subject of project bags, I like using the cloth bags that sheet sets come in. They’re perfect!

    Hi, Denise! I'm brand new to knitting (I've practiced only on straight needles, and only knitting rectangles, in worsted weight wool), but I feel confident with the feel of the knitting. I decided I was going to make some socks with you. When I went into a local yarn shop to get supplies, and I told them I was new to knitting, they looked at me like I was MAD to attempt to knit fingering weight socks with a TH-cam lesson.
    What do you think? Is this project biting off too much for a first non-rectangle project?

    • @U2cantrustme
      @U2cantrustme 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Try practicing with some circular needles and that worsted weight yarn. Is easier to practice with a bigger thicker yarn maybe make some mini leg warmers. Once you get some practice in with the circular needles the socks shouldn't be too hard and remember you can always pause or rewind the video. A live class would be a lot harder. I bet you can do this! Also there is a settings option (bottom right of the video) on these TH-cam videos where you change the playback speed to slow her down. Click on the settings sprocket and choose a slower playback speed for the video on the harder sections of these socks. Sometimes changing the playback speed is better than pausing and rewinding instruction videos. GL - I will also be making some socks for first time but I've made fingerless mits before so I dont think it will be too hard to make some socks.

    Just found your channel. And I love this. A lot of great information. And my name is also Denise. I just started to learn to knit about 2 months ago. I am a crocheter of 33 years. And socks were the reason I wanted to learn to knit. But after I've seen a few videos and thought it was impossible to do... until your class!. Thank you. I've just done my first knitted open top beanie and it looks like a leg warmer.😂 now I'm working on a baby blanket in the garter stitch and it looks so good, I am so proud I didn't give up. So after that is done, I'm going to try out your sock classes. Thanks again this was very helpful and inspirational.🥰
