It seems like it was unboxed by customs. Probably was in better packaging before they opened up the box to assess import duties.

Counting myself pretty lucky. Like you, after about 10yrs years of wanting one, I bought exactly the same reference here at home in the UK, also from eBay. I met the private seller himself but checked the serial by calling Omega UK first. I paid £1900 ($2400ish), and it couldn't be more complete. Inner/outer boxes, all cards, original hang tags, original unused polishing cloth, all links and even the protective front and back protective stickers removed when new. I couldn't have been happier but went a step further and immediately got it serviced by Omega. Not a bad call as I claimed on the warranty for a new crown within the first 12mths. Regardless, super happy!

Fyi, anything declared over $800 gets import fees tacked on. A colleague bought a Steinhart for $900+ and had a surprise $30 Fedex bill 4 months later come in the mail. Some sellers might not also declare the package less if folks want to go and ask, at the worst it's considered illegal depending on country and at best it doesn't insure the package should any number of unthinkables happen.

I personally can't stand external AR coatings. I have a couple sinn watches with double AR coatings and when I got them serviced I got them to replace the Crystal with just AR coating on the underside. Doesn't make a whole lot of difference to me in reflectivity.

Looks good, and I enjoyed the video, especially your comments about your Wife! I don't have a youtube channel myself, but your comments struck a cord! I recently picked up a 1972 Seiko 6139-8020, with a vertical clutch column wheel movement. I was wearing it a few days later when my Wife noticed and and asked if it was new. I told her yes, but that it was cheap. What she didn't know is that the few dollars that came out of our checking account was only a small portion of what I actually paid, the rest coming out of my PayPal account! ;) Cool watch, enjoy the heck out of it and don't worry about the AR coating. You can always replace the crystal. ps. your daughter is a cuties, my kids know Dad is a watch nut too.

I have this exact same model, size and spec bought in 2010, the first gen with this aesthetic in my opinion will never look dated and with the matte black dial and white painted numerals give the watch a more classic understated toolish look then the newer models as impressive as they are this still is a relatively modern and definitely robust Omega 600m diver, it's a great watch, mine is definitely not leaving my possession, it's a beauty, love my PO! Best of luck with yours and enjoy it.

For me, I want to buy from a CONUS seller for any high-value purchase and from a well-vetted seller (I will do a lot of background research on the seller). I will take my time and ask a ton of questions (which will give me a better sense of what to expect and a better sense of the seller). I will also try to acquire the full kit (box, warranty card, manual).
Another good characteristic I seek out for a seller is if he or she is also a watch collector. I typically can tell from the language he/she uses in their descriptions or in our back and forth email conversations. Typically, watch enthusiasts tend to be more honest, fair and helpful in their communications and they tend to display a low number of transactions (e.g. on eBay). If I am buying on a watch forum, e.g. Watchuseek, I will look at their length of time on the forum, the number of postings they have made and search for their prior sales activities.

What is smart, you’ve got what you’ve paid for. If you want to re-sell you will get the same in return. No papers, no original box and scratches on the coating plus bad wrapping and probably an early one. It’s a matter of personal choice and risk. Nevertheless, enjoy your watch.

Hahahaha you’ve created a new watch and clothing passion in your daughter…😂 Good luck keeping that under control!
Great looking watch. Actually, the Omega double sided AR coating can be a little frustrating. It’s gorgeous when new, and not so gorgeous after years of wear. There are affordable options to replace the crystal with undercoated only, but your watch has no Box / Papers anyways, so why would it mater? And Omega will replace with the real deal, but it’s not cheap. Personally, I’d make this my daily beater and just use the heck out of it. I hope you’re still enjoying the watch. I just purchased my first 600M. And my 300M is 23 years old and still runs like new! You cannot go wrong with the Seamaster lineup. They just work!
Happy Holidays. I enjoyed the video.

Something I particularly adore about 2201.50.00 is that no matter how spectacular "No Time No Die" may be, this watch is forever associated in my mind with Daniel Craig heydays!!! Quantum of Solace may be a mediocre film for some, but for me is the Casino Royale's sequel in many ways. In many ways as well the 2201.50.00 marks the beginning of a new era, leaving behind the Brosnan watches that dominated the franchise from 1995 until 2006!

Beautiful watch, excellent video clip, keep them coming man!! Looking forward to your comparison of the Planet Ocean with other watches you had experience with, that would be even more beneficial. As far as your purchase is concerned, the world belongs to the brave, so you took a measured risk and it paid off, glad that worked out for you! And you should get your daughter to color that drawing, at least one side of it, and you should frame it -- she put a lot of work into it, and I guarantee you that in ten years or so, that picture is going to melt your heart everytime you look at it. I wished I saved and framed some of my sons' drawings when they were that young, but those were rough times for me and I did not have the inspiration or the time to do it. Children are precious, and we should celebrate our children because parents are the only ones that can do that, nobody else really knows what goes on in the family, so if the parent does not do it, nobody will.
Cheers, looking forward to more vids from you!

I really like your videos, you have a very easy way about you, down to earth. My questions whenever buying a luxury watch, particularly when buying from a private seller. Are there any marks, dings, dents, scratches, or damage at all anywhere on the case, bracelet, crystal, clasp or back? Has it been dropped or abused in any way? Does it come with all original boxes and paperwork? Has it been opened up by anyone outside of the manufacturer, and has it been serviced? I ask for good closeup photos, I want to know precisely what I will be getting when I purchase it, and if it not exactly as described, I reach out. Almost 20 years of buying watches, knock wood, everything has been pretty smooth as a result. I've also built great relationships with domestic jewelers who sell preowned and typically haggle to almost private similar pricing. Keep up the great work! Looking forward to future reviews.

Bought from the same dealer. Had an excellent experience. It's said on his page that he's not responsible for all taxes and custom fees. So I believe you can't blame him for this. The package situation is strange though. My watch was really good packed. I believe it's possible it was checked by custom officials and then repacked. I also believe that you can't have 100% rating if you have thousands of reviews (not hundreds). There is always some issue, usually post relate. I think 99.3% is still very good. Basically it means that only 1 person per 200 is unhappy.

Nice watch Andrew! I have the same one and had the same issue with the external AR. If it bothers you like it did me, a few minutes with a little cape cod cloth will remove the external AR with minimal effect on reflections. Hope you are enjoying it!

I bought a $2800 watch from Japan in September 2018 and no customs duty was charged so I think they started charging for items over $800 in 2019 or 2020.

About the scratches that were not disclosed. You have 30 days to return the watch. You could have got in contact with the seller for a discount for undisclosed information. If he did not
satisfy you could return the watch to the seller at their cost. I have returned Omega to the seller in South Korea which was not functioning. Ebay also guarantees against fake watches.
Ebay is not perfect. But in the past I have bought watches all over the world. I am satisfied or the watch goes back.

Every country has a customs de minimis value for imports. Below that value, you pay no duty or tax. It's $800 in the USA.

    • @huzcer
      @huzcer 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

yes. that's a pretty good allowance compared to a lot of other countries so I wouldn't be complaining. also the rate would be a lot higher. you'd have to pay > $400 in fees buying that in Europe from Japan.

I love the Planet Ocean, think you made a good choice. The Seamaster 300 is soooo dated in the worst way possible but the PO is timeless and beautiful, well done. Hoping to pick one up this year, but waffling between 39.5 and 42.

Depends on what you want to do. Keep it use it and enjoy. You did good, if you foresee selling it the few hundred you save it not worth going through a dealer an d top watch with all the packaging. Ps you should always ask the seller to show what’s included. As far as packing customs had to open it who knows how they repacked it

Can you test this out for me? I wonder if the spring bars will line up with the holes.

Were the customs forms filled out as "used" watch?
Sounds like you paid the full customs duty for a new item.
I just bought a new German watch that was just under $1000, and got a bill from Fedex for $23.40, which includes the duty AND the Fedex brokerage fee.

I took a risk on a panda dial Speedmaster from the same seller last year and it’s my favorite watch - the seller Closer usually has these very comprehensive spec sheets for each timepiece listing the +/- SPD and everything which stood out to me as legit so I took the risk. Would buy from them again.

Forget import fees. You do better to buy locally or buy when traveling abroad.
