    I own and am currently wearing (rotation)...42mm PO 8500 Ceramic bezel inset with Chromium Nitride. Tool, Understated, Go anywhere, do anything, just about the last watch you want/need. If I could have only one watch, this would be it. Plus 1.5 secs/day after 6 years of regular wear. Tough, tasteful, elegant. You have great taste, Britt! 😍

    I've had the 45mm version for 10 years now and it still brings a smile to my face whenever I pick it up. Omega hit a home run here and proceeded to ruin it a little more with every new version. Classic piece.

    I love seeing her so excited over Omega. I thought the day would never come! I’m wearing my SMP 300m with the white “great white” dial right now, on the rubber strap. I love the bracelet too though. It did take a minute for me to warm up to but trying it in person is completely different from seeing it online. I almost bought the PO but it was thick on the wrist and I have a 7 1/2 inch wrist. Maybe I needed to try the 42mm instead of the 39.5mm. Great video! Keep Omega coming!

    • @BrittPearceWatches
      @BrittPearceWatches  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Ouuu I honestly think the 42mm is the perfect size! 😍😍 it’s such a shame it’s not available with the modern catalogue! 😭

    • @gbtriumph3216
      @gbtriumph3216 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Somehow, the 39.5 LOOKS like it is a perfected 42, but it wears QUITE differently. The 39.5 SITS on TOP of my 7" wrist, and the 42 feels like it belongs AROUND my wrist. I cannot figure out why.

    I bought a pristine example of this watch a couple years ago as a gift for my son, and it’s just beautiful. He’s an aspiring watch nut, and I can’t think of a better all-around watch for a young person to take along on any of life’s adventures. The later Planet Ocean just became huge and heavy, and while I did own a newer PO chronometer model, I ended up selling it because even though I’m a bigger guy at 6’2” and 215lbs with an almost 8” wrist, it felt cartoonishly giant wearing it

  • @calibreman
    @calibreman 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Thank you for this video, I like your enthusiasm. I bought the 45.5 mm orange bezel version of this watch in February 2008, the UK was in recession at the time. I saw this Omega in two different jewellers in my town. The first jeweller had it in the front widow priced at £2000.00
    I went in and asked to look at it and the lady assistant fetched it from the window and handed it to me. once I'd handled it I knew I wanted it. LOL I asked for a 20% discount but she would only give me 15% so I said I'd think about it and left. One week later I went into the other jewellers and asked for a 20% discount but they also would only go to 15% so I left and went back to the jewellers I'd visited the previous week. This time the assistant was a man, I asked to see the watch and said to him that if he were to give me a 20% discount I'd purchase the watch there and then.
    He went out the back and phoned his area manager then came back to me and gave me the 20% discount.

    Love the 1st generation Planet Oceans. I have one that was purchased used and the thing is built like a tank and still running well. It is also very wearable, even the larger 45.5mm models. The newer generations are actually less wearable because they are so thick and feel very top heavy on the wrists.

  • @threefive2072
    @threefive2072 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    one of the most important things to note about this sizing is the bezel diameter is 40mm. the 42mm measurement accounts for the assymetrical case, which is somewhat akin to measuring the width of the case at the crown guards. i'm suprised by how little this is dicussed, actually!

    This is my all time favorite dive watch. Rugged but sophisticated, iconic brand, affordable, wears smaller than its 42mm case size, flies under the radar (unlike a sub) and easy to have serviced because of it's ETA based movement. This was my first "luxury" watch and many years and many watches later, one that I still wear and appreciate above almost all others in my collection. Thanks for giving it some love!

They will scratch it. Yes they will and if not inspected prior they will say it was already like that…. So because i did have them inspect it and when received it back from being serviced the glass was completely scratched. Omega ate that portion of the bill because of that specific inspection of the glass.

    My all-time favorite dive watch, and probably my favorite watch of all time. I had a first-gen Planet Ocean with the 2500C movement in the huge 45.5 mm XL case and while my 7-1/4 inch (185 mm) wrist was barely big enough to support it, the weight on the bracelet was a bone-wearying 231 grams. It was tiring to wear it for more than a few hours. In addition, the movement in my watch was unreliable (four watchmakers worked on it in the course of a year, including Omega twice) so I sold it for an 8500-series second-gen Planet Ocean with a 42 mm case. Much better, reliability-wise and less overall weight. I still would love to see Omega return to the design aesthetic of the first-gen watches though, as they have a timeless charm that the 8500 and 8900 watches don't quite have. Prices for used Planet Oceans have been steadily increasing, so if I want to get another 2500-series watch, now is probably the time to do it.

    I'd love to hear your thoughts on the seamaster 120 (the last gen ones!) They were phased out when the aqua terra was launched... but I think they are a watch that is slept on too! The dial is the main party piece and the smaller size, and lack of dive bezel makes it look like a dressed up smp300! Also it being the last gen seamaster 120 resonates with me when thinking about the history of Omega!
    Comparing the last gen 120 to a first gen aqua terra might be a cool video! Anyhow keep up the great work!

    I was at an AD a few weeks back and tried on everything. The current planet oceans were extremely wearable, even more wearable than the SMP300 on my 6.5 inch wrist. However, I felt like the watch was too blingy.
    Could they just reissue the older planet oceans but with the new master chronometer movements?

    I've had one since 2010. It's just rock solid. Took it in for service for the first time earlier this year, and I didn't even realise it was that old already. It is my do-all watch. I never take it off. I wear it for gardening, diving, welding, digging,... it's just so incredibly unbeatable. I have fancier watches, but if you want a one-watch collection, this has to be on your wish list.

    I've worn this reference Planet Ocean daily for 10 years (or longer, I don' actually remember when I got it) until I got my Speedmaster in Jan of 2021. I still love the PO, but the Speedmaster gets the most wrist time these days. Thinner, lighter, and the bracelet is fantastic. The PO is a CHUNK of metal.

    The PO is truly a winner, I own the 45.5 version which is a true beast. It has been in the shadows for the past few years but if someone is on the fence for that single luxury watch this one is definitely it. Extremely well made for what they sell; it is still in the upper end but does not feel overpriced as most luxury watches are.

    Britt u sold me on this version of the PO!!! I had no idea Omega reworked each caliber to include the co axial!!! That in of itself makes it special!!! In addition to the specs the pre ceramic bezel, lyre lugs, Arabic 12, 6, 9, bracelet and clasp make it very toolish with charm. The newer references maybe better on paper but lack character (in my opinion). Using a car reference this is like Porsche 993 turbo with the whale tail=HEV
    Turbo=co axial
    Wide rear fenders= lyre lugs
    Bracelet/clasp= door clunk
    Porsche badge=hippocampus

    To me the OSMPO is the hidden treasure from Omega. Old models sporting the cal 8500 are just nice, specially this one, but there are smaller variants ( you should try the 37 mm ). Even in the modern catalogue I thing apart from the SMP the 39.5mm planet ocean is almost perfect ( would love to see a thinner version of it even if it doesn’t come with the 600m wr).

    Welcome to Omega.
    While i have no PO i want one…or two or more.
    The orange PO is stunning.
    I love the escape valve for helium.
    I seen a video of the ultra deep models that can reach 6000 meters below sea level. The model with the white dial and blue bazel is my favorite. For around 11K it is a honest price.
    My 300 still is as cool as the first day i put it on my wrist.
    I am a huge fan of the Constellation and Globemaster series.
    My advice for you, an Aqua Terra is dressier than a chunky PO.
    A little secret, i looking for a Rolex, but i know i coming home with …. an Omega.
    Attraction, heritage, requirements, customer friendly AD’s, satisfying, the Omega way.

    I bought it because I couldn’t get a submariner and it was a gift to myself for my 40th birthday.
    I did eventually get the submariner but when I put them side by side the Omega is just a nicer better design watch.
    As a result I wear it as an everyday and still surprised how many comments I get. I do love it but it costs same as submariner to service.

    Alright me Babber; you're bang on with this vid Ms P! The OG Planet Ocean with the 2500 movement are thinner than the more recent 8500 movements and as a result are brilliant everyday options. The Grail is the transition Planet Ocean Liquid Metal Limited Edition > there were only 1948 produced and have the same case as the first edition but with applied numerals and ceramic bezel. compare the OG with the LMLE and you can see the evolution beautifully. Laters....

    Got a 2021 Planet Ocean.
    Checked out a Speedmaster, an SMP300 and that PO, and immediately went for the PO.
    Even though 43.5mm sounds like alot for a 172mm wrist, but it isn't.
    Omega really made the case feel smaller than it is, at least Lug2Lug wise.
    And it had much nicer hands than the SMP300.
    Can't warm up to them. If i ever buy an SMP300, it'll be a white one. Since the Hands are not as disruptive, than on a dark dial.

    Omega can be such a fun brand, I’ve been looking at some older Seamasters recently. Had a Rolex Sub come in for me at my AD last year, put it on the wrist and passed, it just didn’t speak to me.
