    Body Geometry is building on some fundamentals that a long history of stylists have noticed for the past half century, including John Kitchener, David Kibbe, and McJimsey.
    Here's a link to some celebrity examples of Body Geometry types:

    What’s up with the “women in Hollywood are mtf trans” conspiracy theorists in kibbe comment sections?? There’s so many of them and it’s beyond annoying and insulting

      yeah I didn't even know of that corner of the internet! and when I google body geometry or bone structure test, I don't really see anything coming up for mtf trans. So I'm confused. If anyone knows what's going on, let me know.

      It's a conspiracy theory. I wouldn't be so insulted by a conspiracy theorist since they are just crazy and delusional right? Or maybe you fear that they might be right? and your perception of reality might be shattered?

    • @SuperiorRobyn
      @SuperiorRobyn 4 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      T M I mean yeah sometimes people say shit out of jealousy but you can't generalize a whole group of people especially when you've never met a single person of said group. We are conspiracy theorists, truthers or what have you. Maybe we're all just delusional or maybe we're onto something. Don't forgot the celebs use heavy makeup, photo shop, plastic surgery, wigs, angles, poses, perfect lighting, fake nails, corsets, rib removal, and strategic fashion to hide their true nature. If the celebs are so beautiful and perfect why do they need all that? I use none of it and I still get admired for my beauty as a woman. The whole idea is based on skeletal structure differences between a man and woman. It's based on a forensics science and you have to take in consdieration all the possible body alterations mentioned above to take away from the true skeletal structure. The more you study male vs female structure the better of an eye you have for it

    I have a chart somewhere that shows the “perfect” proportions based on head length, like GITTE’S example with the height. (edit: I googled “Human figure proportions diagram” and found lots of good images) 📏📐
    I like something objective for reference because I, like many women, have difficulty seeing myself realistically. (I have asked my husband to point out someone similar to me, but he’s not terribly helpful. Or he’s just smart.) It’s much more helpful to say, “the average upper arm (point of shoulder to elbow) is 1.5 ‘heads’ and the average elbow-to-fingertip length is 2.0 ‘heads’.” That is much less subjective.

    I like that you're taking this in the direction of people being between types, or a mixture of types. I definitely feel like that applies to most of us and bringing in elements of the types within yourself could be very beneficial if done in a strategic and artful way.

  • @kuroryuurin
    @kuroryuurin 4 ปีที่แล้ว +78

    Definitely feeling the 'inbetween'. The middle between mixed and blended sounds intriguing. I'm looking forward to more videos on the topic. I don't suit any clothing for pure types, but if I get a piece of clothing that would simultaneously suit a SN, SC and TR it will usually suit me (smooth-ish lines, not too much detail and not too little, nothing to visually cut me in half). I'm not balanced enough to be a blended type, but I also look 'off' with anything asymmetric on me. This is a tough nut for me to crack. It doesn't help that my soft flesh conceals most of my bones. :D

    • @13jonni
      @13jonni 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      This is me - I get a 3 way split between A, C and D/E on every test. I'm not very fleshy though, except in my face, so it's easy to see which category I fall into (or fail to fall into, being both mixed AND blended!)

      Are you gamine?

    • @kuroryuurin
      @kuroryuurin 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@labornurse In theory Soft Gamine would sound ideal, since I'm only 5.2'. In practice it all falls apart. Horizontal lines make me look stumpy and frumpy, especially if I don't match my trousers and shoes. Even belts can be too much. I am easily overwhelmed by prints, especially detailed like for Romantics or animated/ perky like Gamines. Gamine styles generally make me look large and awkward, especially short dresses. I may be short, but I'm not petite. Since I have a moderate amount of C answers on the test, I don't look good if my proportions are out of balance. On the other hand, I have a floor-length velvet dress, which creates one long line and shows off curves, which looks just perfect. This leads me to conclude I am not a Gamine (I do have SG and FG colleagues, so I have a good idea what the lines look like). And it does generally work for me to go for clean silhouettes like SC, but add textures and details for SN.

    Don’t agree with the head size and vertical line, because the size of your limbs is so important in how tall you look. That confused me a lot because I have a really small head but small limbs, and I though since I had a really small head I must have answer A vertical line. Surprise, surprise because everyone I asked told me I looked shorter because of my small arms and legs. Really confused what my body type really was. So head size is not the only factor that makes you look tall/short.

    • @dianal1679
      @dianal1679 4 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      That's true, but the length of your limbs is the subject of another answer. If you were to count them in the vertical line answer, then they would be counted twice.

    • @elektrakomplexet
      @elektrakomplexet 4 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Diana L But they still affect your vertical line tho. Especially the combination between small head/big head with long/short limbs. It’s the overall look on how tall you look, not just your head. Someone with small head and limbs will look smaller than someone who has a small head and tall limbs.

    • @vanillamochi304
      @vanillamochi304 4 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      I agree...all of the ladies at 7:27 look tall to me.
      When I see Audrey, I see a tall lady. Doesn’t matter that her head is big because her limbs are long, that automatically creates elongation. I think head size definitely does influence your vertical line but the length of the limbs is just as important.

    • @cozybrandi
      @cozybrandi 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      vanilla mochi Both Audrey Hepburn and Zendaya are considered FG and they both have larger heads and a longer arms/legs. While they both look at least somewhat tall to me, their larger heads makes them look shorter and keeps them from being maybe a dramatic or something else.
      The size of your head is a factor, but not the only factor.

    • @merriamstyle
      @merriamstyle  4 ปีที่แล้ว +43

      The reason I didn't do it that way is because I don't want to double count the arms and legs. Imagine if we said that having a larger bust line also makes you look more hourglass....then we would double count those two answers, you see? It's the combination of factors that ends up making your bone structure, and the size of the head is one of them, as are the length of the limbs. I agree with you that the limbs being shorter makes someone look shorter, but that's already accounted for in the limbs question.

    This videos is exactly on point, and what i needed! You carefully picked brilliant examples! Thanks to the example pics of Cs, I am even more convinced of being blended. My facial answers are all C leaning towards A, because my lean, chiselled or defined impressions of my nose, cheeks and jaw are real, but aren't that pointy sharp. Got an A for hands and feet and a D for shoulders, the others are C as well. This should be coherent to the monocromatic minimal detail looks that suit me. I think there are definitly people between types. If there is a sharp vs round dimension, what could be opposite of bevelled?

    • @ingrid9635

      @@ingrid9635, I second your descriptive adjectives! I question that having mixed bones/ being mixed type is the matching opposite of bevelled. Bevelled bones can contribute to having mixed answers. So are we missing anything? Or is blendet our point zero of with the characteristics sharp, rounded and bevelled branch out? Could there be a lean category?

    Love your videos and found you through your videos on kibbes body types. You have really helped me to see my type clearly and knowing I am a soft dramatic makes it easier to follow your own theory, even though it is much easier to follow than kibees in my opinion. I don't think my head is small and my legs are definitely of a B bone structure, since they are on the wider side with muscular calves and softer thighs and that takes away from their length a little bit. Then again, my arms, hands, feet and shoulders take my yang up quite a notch together with my facial bones, so I don't think those first two have that much influence on my type. Can't wait to see more videos on body geometry, especially for the inbetween types and ofc my own!

    I definitely prefer this to some other tests out there and am curious about the grey area between types too! I used to feel weird about having a mixed body and thought I was "disproportionate" but I'm embracing it now. I feel my best in simple, smooth, fitted clothes with high contrast. :)

    I would love to see a video about how to read the lines of the body. I find hard to understand what the describing words mean. Like what does long, wide, sharp, round mean? I struggle to "see" the lines your talking about. When you say, "long, wide, sharp, round," do you mean in relation to the rest of the body or in comparison to the spectrum of bodies?
    Also I feel like learning to see the bones and lines of the body is perhaps an acquired skill that comes with practice. Is this something you've experienced, and if so, how did you train your eye to "see" in this way?

    • @silvermoonshineX3
      @silvermoonshineX3 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      you compare withing the body and you see the line as it is, not in contrast to other bodies. Although it helps to look at them to see how exactly long arms look and such. Have to train the eyes a bit and paying really close attention to proportions. Good luck!

    • @pepita3467
      @pepita3467 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Its a highly subjective system, influenced by the angle of the photo and the viewers own interpretation and artistic language bc in reality, human bodies dont quite fit into categories. Its artistic interpretations, not reality.

    • @MK-ih6wp
      @MK-ih6wp 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I imagine it's better to study other humans first. Analyzing your own proportions can be super tricky as our brains have spent a lifetime developing biases and blind spots.
      Reminds me of the fact that we see our own nose constantly, anytime our eyes are open.. but our brains have learned to tune that info out.

    • @juliannedyck2054
      @juliannedyck2054 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@MK-ih6wp So true. I think this is the main reason why I find it so difficult to objectively identify characteristics of my own body. However, I do still struggle with seeing lines of the body on other people unless they are very obviously sharp or soft.

    • @MK-ih6wp
      @MK-ih6wp 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@juliannedyck2054 I am hopeless at analyzing myself too. I have just learned to use other people as my mirror. I read them as they read me, if that makes any sense. Doesnt work with people who know me, friends/family are too biased. Acquaintances & strangers tend to give the most useful feedback, IMO.
      As for analyzing other people...I wish I could stop. Its distracting & it makes me feel shallow for noticing the physical qualities of others. Esp when these things are out of people's control (aside from hormones, surgery, etc).

    Ahh I find this so hard. I cant really see the difference between for example the girl who is curvy with dramatic sholders, or a someone with sloped sholders. All of it is so subtle to me.
    I guess I should be dramatic because I am tall and Skinny, but if I wear a suit, to me it looks off, and if I wear a top with jeans I look less defined, almost a size bigger, because my hips are making my top look like I am much rounder. I am sharp maybe, but I also have really larger softer lips and a less defined jawline ( I think?)
    I just lose myself in this..

      I can't tell by my individual features, either, but I look more like a young boy than a feminine woman. I'm "lucky" to have cousins who look a lot like me but their features are extremely feminine, so I have something to compare myself to. I'm not as masculine as Tilda Swinton; as a Soft Dramatic, I literally have softened Dramatic features. My boyish face has always been an embarrassment to me, but as I got older, I've shown my age less than other women.

    A bit off topic, but I was curious why there seems to be no Natural Classic type? This would obviously be someone who is basically Classic but with extra blunt Yang. In Kibbe if you are Classic with extra Yang you would be Dramatic Classic but the recommendations seem to assume that you are Classic with some Dramatic and you are supposed to add sharpness, etc. To me that's not the same as adding bluntness or other Natural elements.

    • @kareng.7773

      If you check out the Truth is Beauty's system which is modified Kitchener the blend between Blended aka Class and Mixed aka Gamine (and also Ingenue) that mix IS taken into account. So for those of us who have this going on we can finally find what works for us! I am not an affiliate and didn't receive anything for mentioning this. I'm just into tracking all the various style typing systems www.truth-is-beauty.com/style-analysis.html and had a deuce of a time finding what worked for me using Kibbe and related systems that assume there could be no blend between the two combined types.

      I have the same question and it is an important one. I have very long arms, and short legs. Imo the length of your legs in comparison to the length of your body is the most important measure for determining your vertical line.

    • @ju2082
      @ju2082 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      My hypothesis is that it could be a sign you are a mixed type (different length of arms and legs), or a rounded type with an undercurrent (type like Rihanna). However there is a possibility of that for any type, just as Merriam said we are all unique.

    • @janetteehan8230
      @janetteehan8230 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@ju2082 I would say one needs rounded shoulders and hips to be a rounded type. I have come to the realization that there will be outliers, like me, who just don't fit into any of the types including flamboyant gamine.

    What about a mix between beveled and blended? I do find it hard to wear too much detail and I definitely suit smooth silhouettes. I think my bone structure is wide, but I don't seem to wear wide or relaxed silhouettes very well. Sleek seems to be a good keyword for me. As much as I badly want a chiseled or sharp bone structure, I don't think I have one.
