  • www.ISRTV.com presents our review of the Fanatec ClubSport Base V2 on the PC and PS4. It's been a few years since we reviewed the V1 base and now it's time to see if the V2, along with the new Xbox One Universal Hub, produces a better all around experience.
    Watch to see what Darin and John think of the flagship wheel setup from Fanatec.

    I am planning to purchase a wheel, 3 pedal set, shifter, and handbrake (if available) for the release of Forza Horizon 3.
    I will be using it on Xbox One but I also have a PS4 and will be building a moderately high-end gaming pc in the near future at which point I will definitely be looking into the sim racers available on there.
    I want to buy the best quality setup that I can afford to use on all 3 (Xbox One/PS4/PC) that will be durable enough to last.
    In your opinion would a full Fanatec setup be worth it? (~$1600 without tax)
    If not what would you suggest as the next best thing?
    If so what would be the best "cockpit" for it? Fanatec's cockpit seems overpriced for what it is but I also can't find anything that jumps out at me as a better option so far.
    Thank you in advance for any and all help and responses.
    I've been into both cars and video games for a very long time and I am just now really trying to get into sim racing so I want to make sure I do my research before I waste money (in this case a whole lot of it) on the wrong setup and cockpit.

    Hi guys, Wondering if you can help. Looking at purchasing a Fanatec csw v2 as a upgrade to my current thrustmaster tx set up. A few questions i cant find answers for i was wondering if you knew. I have a gt omega pro rig, do you know if this supports to have both pedals (cs v3) and steering base hard mounted? Also another question do you know if you can get an adapter to use the TH8A shifter on the fanatec base or will i need to change my shifter aswell?

    Hi
    have you test the wheel's FFB longevity? Some other wheels (Thrustmasters ) over heat and turn the FFB down. after and 45 min of racing. If we all race we know races are about 2 hours in length, not counting practice and qualifying.
    Thanks!

    • @johnulmer1622
      @johnulmer1622 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +victoraochoa I do mainly longer sprint races (45 to 90 mins) and endurance events (4 to 24 hours) and my V2 never fades. I run very aggressive FFB settings as well (ff-100, force-130). I've had mine for about a year now, and it has not skipped a beat. My V1 was a fade machine, but the V2 has been dead on in this category.

I run on several Sim's like, iRacing, Assetto Corsa, GSC-e, R3E, rFactor1, It JUST Works Great on all these titles that I have and I know it works on the other one's I don't have per friends of mine that have them and this wheel. I have the Formula 1 wheel and the 0ld hub with a wheel I like mounted to it. I wouldn't trade my V2 wheel for nothing else. Thanks for the Good review of this and the New Hub too. = )

    Nice to see a Fanatec review on ISR. I have the Formula Rim and BMW Rim with my CSW V2 so the QR system makes sense, but for the universal hub, yeah it makes no sense. If anything should be "quick release" it should be the rims themselves.
    I should also note, I have had my CSW V2 base for over a year now without a single mechanical issue. A quick look at ISR, GTPlanet, the iRacing forums, etc will show that, while not G27 class, the V2 base is fare more reliable than the V1. When you are spending this kind of money one would hope this is the case.
    It would be great if you guys could do a settings and calibration video (like days of old) for this wheel on the various PC sims (AC, rf2, iRacing, GSC, DiRT Rally, etc).

    I own the Xbox hub, and I do really like it. I use it for both the PS4, and Xbox One. The only problem that I have with it, is with one of the button pods, that houses the X button. The button itself for X is built a little weird. With the X button cap on. I can't depress it far enough to have it register. If I swap caps, like the Y button cap. It doesn't go far enough down to register. I just leave it off, and it works fine.

    Xbox has a forum for feature request.. Is it possible for consoles like the XB1 to receive an update for higher bits of resolution for wheels and peddles.. Or is that a dev thing? Or are you not sure? Cause I would like to create a pole on the feature request Forum, and maybe your channel and brand can help support the request??

  • @johnulmer1622

    The QR is great if you have two uni-hubs. I run the prototype and L79 mainly, but do occasionally switch to the GT1/3 cars. It's nice to be able to switch between the two so quickly. With the open wheel and prototypes I like a smaller (270mm) rim, while on the GT cars I like the larger (300mm) rim. Not to mention, when I'm done I can put the cover back on the wheel without having to unscrew anything. That's just a minor convenience.
    If I was a console guy, I'd probably feel different about having two uni-hubs considering the price. Besides, you can start off with one and add another later on. It doesn't sting so much that way.

  • @SmokeyMesa
    @SmokeyMesa 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    For a high end base I think the hub and quick release both provide options their customers desire. The ability to mount an actual automotive rim is pretty cool. Swapping back and forth to an f1 style makes sense, I hope they develop one with xb1 support, or maybe even a proper PS4 rim. I doubt many people would bother swapping rims on the hub frequently...

      For PS4 you either have to use the CSL Elite PS4 or the Podium Racing Wheel for PS4, the CSW V2.5 is not compatible with the PS4. But you can use the DriveHub for example to make it compatible.

    do you think that hard mount is the only way? for example does t300rs feels better when it's hard mounted?
    in my opinion hard mounted or not it all depends by how stable is the desk or the cockpit. I use t300rs on a desk with clamp and my g27 hard mounted on a metal plate on a sim custom made and it moves a lot. what do u think?

      +Robert Manz then, I have no idea why Johannes told me it should be the same. A little disappointing that I can't get a straight answer from these guys. I figure 10-bits shouldn't feel far off from 12-bits, so somewhat comforting.

    One of the things that is really hard to understand about the Fanatec wheels is how features like the "7-way encoder" work in game. For folks who have only ever owned less expensive options that only have buttons and D-pads, it'd be great to see some short-format, very focused clips that zero in on specific features of some of this gear.

    Awesome job on your channel guys keep it up !! I have a question regarding this review, it might be a long shot with all the stuff you working on right now but maybe you can answer this. I recently got my csw v2 with the v3 pedals F1 rim and shifter for my PC. But I can't figure out how to setup my wheel and pedals on F1 2015. Have massive deadzone almost no force feedback and suddendly bites mid corners. It might be a codemasters issue cuz every other titles that I own (Project cars, Assetto corsa, Dirt Rally) works perfectly fine. You guys say that base makes F1 2015 come alive and I would like to experience that, so if you have any suggestions it would nice of you can help out. thanks

    pretty great review guys! the V2 had been around long enough for the public to get one finally, but it took you a while I'd say, lol. Judging by the thoughtful comments and observations though, it sounds like you put the wheel through its paces for a while so that's great. That's important considering the possibility of defects on ffb wheels. I wish they'd come up with a more cost effective solution though. it just seems pretty pricey considering the competition its up against these days. its a niche market regardless, so I'm still glad its an option for sim racers even if it's a bit much for my wallet these days. careful to anyone reading this...wheel rims for the csw are like a gateway drug lol.

    Great unbiased review, my CSW V2/V3 set has been awsome, but the best part is the universal hub. For now I am PS4 PCars only, PC soon, but with the button boxes ( by the way you can get an extra box from Fanatec that works with PCars on PS4) and funky switch I have 22 buttons that can be assigned in game.

    • @wesilsp
      @wesilsp 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree that PCars on the console does lack some of the features found on PC, but not so much that it's not a great experience. For thoes who have never experienced a true SIM racing title, PCars on console is a great entry and learning tool so we shouldn't discredit them so quickly.

    • @wesilsp
      @wesilsp 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Really, I have never tried out the Forza series. The game play videos looks good, but I've never own an XBox, only PS. Does For a have the same level of vehicle tuning in PCars? The feature I like the most is tinkering with the set ups to get better times, fuel consumption and tire wear.

    I wouldn't really consider the T500RS/T300RS/TX to be "low end". I'd consider them closer to mid range, while the CSW here would be high end, with the better products being enthusiast level.
    A better way to classify things would be Entry Level, Mid Range, High End, Enthusiast Grade (lowest to highest in that order).

    but they should fix that USB pedal thing, sounds like an oversight in the USB control board, which isn't an expensive fix when developing.

    The adapter hub is the problem. You gotta do a crapload of work like you guys showed in this vid or you can buy a hub for every rim and you'll be all good for quick rim changes.

  • @CANiHAVEaCHIP1

    I would, but it's near enough $1000 AUD for me, just for the base. So, would the full CSR set (wheel, pedals, shifter set), which is a much more doable $500 for me. Would that do well enough for an upgrade from the DFGT? I'm just looking for a wheel that has considerably stronger FFB, and the whole set in terms of functionality, i.e H-Pattern and sequential shifter, 3 pedal set, and preferably PS4 compatibility.

      Bryan Benson Benson Yea. Turns out this review created an unnecessary confusion. I was just told by Fanatec chat rep that it should work 12-bits just like it'd via USB. Connecting it via USB creates an annoying cable clutter.

    i dont think you guys did understand, what that for is the universal hub. i mean if the options what fanatec offers you is not enough out of rims or you want to play with a special kind of rim then you buy the universal hub. and if you want to use more then one rims from other companies then you should buy 2 universal hubs. i hope you guys understand what i want to say.
    if you use more than one rims then the quick release is very cool. i have a formula carbon, the bmw gt2 and a universal hub for my type-r rim. and yeah, if i want to get and use a lambo rim then i buy the lambo rim and another universal hub.

    After spending $1,000 for the base and the 918 wheel im deffinetly going to order the Accuforce setup. esp since this badass new base has already broken down after claiming to be more reliable. Maybe I got the unicorn one with a few bad parts. Either way I no longer feel the same about Fanatec.

    • @instrugramm
      @instrugramm 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +SimRacin Jordan Why spending that much money? Get a 300rs with the Ferrari Fxx Evo rim, connect it to some Clubsport Pedals and have fun, my Fanatec wheel broke a year ago and they told me it was unrepairable. The T300 has great FFB, isn't expensive (+ the Ferrari Rim is absolutely awesome /light + great quality) and with my CS V2 Pedals it's absolutely reliable, i even did a few very long races, which i never could with the Fanatec wheel ( overheating issues)... if you wanna spend that much money consider getting a cheap racecar ^^.

  • @bradleyland
    @bradleyland 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just wanted to offer a counter viewpoint on the quick release.
    I like it, but not because it's quick. Think of it as a tool-less wheel attachment, rather than a quick release, and it starts to make more sense. It looks high-quality, and I think a tool-less wheel swap mechanism makes a lot of sense on a product at this price point. Just imagine if Fanatec didn't use the quick release; what would they use instead? Thrustmaster's system works, but it's chunky and plastic. Again, it goes back to price point. I would be deeply disappointed to see a system like that on Fanatec's CSB product.
    The other thing to consider is that you're spending $600 on just a base. The total system cost for most Fanatic setups starts at around $1,200, and that's before you get in to the cost of the rig! When you're investing a $1,500 or more in to a sim setup, is it really all that crazy to invest in multiple button hubs (even at $250-$300) over the lifetime of ownership? Also consider that many people will mount a real racing wheel that costs just as much. If you're serious enough to invest in a Fanatec setup the quick release seems like a necessity from a long term investment perspective.
    The only thing that doesn't make much sense to me is the anticipated elimination of the non-XBox version of the hub. If Fanatec were smart, they'd create a "light" version of the hub that retails for $150 (or less!). Reduce the number of buttons, drop the FunkySwitch, and eliminate the customizable LED panel. Do I really need all those things on my wheel when I'm racing stock cars or road cars? When is the last time you could control anything more than your stereo from the steering wheel of your car (assuming you're not in a Ferrari or McLaren). Even in hyper cars, you need three or four buttons max. A low-cost button hub option would increase the overall value of the product, because you could add wheels to your collection over time.

I could be wrong but if this is the case the CSR is the better option for sure. At least go for a T300/TX, both of which have brushless motors and interchangeable rims at a price point below the higher end CSW V2.

      @johnulmer1622 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +ianiva What kind of kart are you getting for that money? Not a Rotax. Not a TAG, definitely not a shifter. Hell, a L0206 engine will cost you that much by itself. Then you have to get a chassis, tires, sprocket.....etc....etc....etc... What about track time? How much is that going to cost you? How often will you get on the track? Where are you getting your free fuel?
      These are completely separate hobbies. You don't compare them. That's like saying "why would you buy a car, when for a little more you could have an airplane". These statements are cliche' and trite.
