    Reviewer's Note: The "Drift Mode" Issue has been resolved! Apparently, when I did the first Firmware update, it didn't go through to the proper Firmware, so it was still on an outdated Firmware version. Make sure you are on the proper Firmware, and Drift Mode should work fine!
    After some testing, I will say that Firmware 0 feels AMAZING, but is prone to oscillations in some titles. I felt most comfortable at Drift Mode at -3, and that prevented the oscillations, but still felt pretty loose, which is a great compromise.

      When they are talking about adjusting HRZ it has nothing to do with power, and everything to do with speed and readability for the software. Essentially adding on a bigger zoom lens to a camera, the halifax sensor can see more and therefor can offer better feedback over all.

    im still happy with clubsport V2 wheel. very durable and no mechanic problem for over 2 years. Previous Fanatec wheels had many problems but after they change every wheel to Servo motor , it became very durable and no failure problem.

    I upgraded from V1 and those two wheels actually are completely different things except the outside look! With drift mode to 0 the V2.5 is really almost as a DD Wheel based on my experience! The greatest thing about V2.5 is that the wheel consistently force to the center depending on the grip you have on your tires and on the same point brings you FFB instantly in the very best smooth way. That brings very realistic filing again based on my real racing cars experience! Fanatec really did brilliant job with very reasonable price and even with the expensive rims is still lot cheaper then Acufoce or OSW solution and yes , they are better but V2.5 really close the gap. Great review mate 🙂

    • @iseeq72
      @iseeq72 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Steliyan Chepilevski I own the V2.5 at the moment and was actually thinking switching to a OSW. But if the differences are very small than I guess an upgrade is not worth it. Do you have experiences comparing both systems? What charateristics are different that you can actually feel?

    • @chepilevski
      @chepilevski 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is really depends of what do you expect from your wheel results. If you want to have the best from the technology for the moment then the OSW is the best right now if you build it with the best motor and electronics which will be costly of course. If you expect the new wheel to make you faster on the track that will 99% not going to happen if your upgrade is from V2.5 to OSW. I can tell you what I think about your situation as I'm in the same shoes. Fanatec brings the gap so close right now with the latest base that I will keep it for the next 1-2 years and then will move to the DD Wheel solution because that is the future. But if money wasn't problem I was going to build OSW right now even if is slightly better the V2.5 .

    • @iseeq72
      @iseeq72 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Steliyan Chepilevski Thanks a lot, that helps! I AM competitive, so much I can admit, and certainly good equipment and also good configuration of wheel/pedal setup helps in pacing faster. But I do not expect to getting any faster with a DD-system (alreacy leading the boards very often so no need to get faster ;-)) I certainly would and can spend the money for a DD upgrade. But if there is not a certain "wow"-effect as I experienced for example when switching from CSL elite to CSW V2 then I stick to the existing equipment for now. Your statement tells me there is no such "wow" effect anymore from a CSW V2.5 to a OSW.

    • @chepilevski
      @chepilevski 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      iv got that wow wen test first time the very best combo of OSW but that wow iv got from the v2.5 too. i decite to wait a bit and yes, im same competetive and 2d place for me is not an option too ...lol

    Recently upgraded from a g27 to this forza motorsport bundle, the gearshifter, v2.5 servo and the xbox hub and forza wheel. I received a defective xbox hub that had me frustrated and scratching my head why I couldn't get it working at first. Fanatec was pretty easy to deal with and I got a response once a day so took about 3-4 days to figure out that the xbox hub was defective. They sent me out a new and I hooked it all up and now i'm happy with it. This thing performs WAAAAY better than my G27 (G27 is a great starter/budget wheel i'm not knocking it!) and the load cell braking really helped me with braking. I'm glad I did the switch, I do wish it was a bit cheaper though. I don't understand when you say you don't notice a difference when you go up and down on the drift mode. It's huge difference to me -5 drift i'm cranking that sucker to get it to turn 0 drift is where I preffered it as I don't do any drifting in the sims. Unfortunately I never tried the V2 to compare it to, but i'd give it a solid 8/10 if I had to rate the thing as a whole.

    Isn’t basic mechanics taught in school in the US? Like what torque and moment of inertia means? But you’re right in your theory. First of all, a smaller diameter means a larger force, because the torque is the same as with the larger diameter. Torque is diameter multiplied by force, so when it is constant and diameter changes, the force changes in the opposite direction.
    When you were talking about ”density” you were talking of moment of inertia. That describes how hard it is to start to rotate an object around a certain axis, and it increases if you move some mass further away or add mass at a diameter.

    • @MigluGamer
      @MigluGamer 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HieronymousLex Haha, but it doesn't require a genius to know general knowledge. Therefore I don't feel like a genius. Are these things taught there or not? Is it so hard to answer?

    • @HieronymousLex
      @HieronymousLex 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      MigluGamer yes they are taught here. The fact that you think you’re smart for knowing something so basic, and go straight to assuming Americans are stupid, is indicative of the dunning-kruger effect. Or do they not teach that over there?

    • @MigluGamer
      @MigluGamer 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HieronymousLex I just said I don't feel like a genius. I don't think I'm smart for knowing something so basic. Why do you think I'd think that? Also Dunning-Kruger effect is only possible when the person knows little about the subject, and you don't know how much I know. You still think you know, which is more like Dunning-Kruger.

    Great video! I own a 2.5 base with a P1 rim, and you where talking about improvement from either wheel in your video over the P1 rim, but can you tell me what exactly did improve? I am thinking about buying a new Fanatec rim, but I would like it when it's not just about the look of it :-) If you catch my drift..

    • @Simracingpaddock
      @Simracingpaddock  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So, one common trend most Clubsport Wheel Rims have (apart from the Universal Hub) is that they have more buttons/features. For example, they all have a Rotary Encoder built into the "D-Pad", which allows for adjustments. They also have a joystick which, theoretically, you could use as a mouse.
      Out of the "CSW Rims", I just have the Formula Rim. It is a blast, and I like the fact that it actually has the lights that light up in order, and not just one light that just changes colors.
      Also, worth mentioning - the Quick Release on them is SO much better than the CSL.
      Hope my two cents help!

    Just a little bit background information about the physics why it may feel smoother with the Forza wheel - if you are interested in:
    You are right, the diameter is more or less the reason for the smoother feeling. With the higher diameter you are getting a longer lever arm and since torque is a product of lever arm and force, you can put a higher torque on the wheelbase while using the same amount of force. The reason why it is feeling smoother should be that the steering wheel's force feedback is giving you the same amount of torque while you can resist it by using less power because of the higher lever arm which comes from the higher diameter.
    Also the second part of your theory should be right: If the weight of the wheel is mostly coming from the center of the wheel, this means that the inertia of the wheel is lower. In that way the wheel feels smoother through the higher diameter but it doesn't start suffering from this and feel heavier while turning it.
    But thanks for the review, I will check it, if my budget allows me to buy it after I've build my new racing rig...

    So I have a Logitech G 25 - you would definetly recommend to get a V2.5? - racing openwheelers would you suggest F1 rim or the GT rim?

    • @Simracingpaddock
      @Simracingpaddock  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For open wheel, I'd recommend the base with the Formula Rim. The GT rim is just too large to quickly make the minor adjustments required for the open wheel cars

  • @oscarshen6855
    @oscarshen6855 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That steering wheel has exectly the same size with a real formula car steering wheel, that's why fanatec makes it that way,.Smaller rim means faster reaction, and they don't have more space in a formula cockpit, but also means larger force required. Maybe we need to stop complaining about the size and have more respect for the real formula drivers. They sit very low, can't really see the apex but we can drive with a top camera, which has much better view, and no matter how good the wheel base is, the force feedback is way strongger, the drive have to handle it by such a small wheel.

  • @momorious
    @momorious 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    You should contact the Fanatec support.
    There may be an issue with your wheel as you say you dont get the negative drift mode values.
    On my 2.5 the Drift mode goes from -5 to OFF and then up to +5.
    If those negative values are missing, there IS something broken because the negative drift mode NEEDS to be there..
    Does that happen with both rims? I also have the Formula Carbon and at least with that rim the negative values must be there

    • @Simracingpaddock
      @Simracingpaddock  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I checked with both rims, and they aren't there.
      Something worth noting is that I actually did NOT dock the score because of that, because I knew for a fact other drivers had the Drift Mode working properly, such as Shaun Cole of the Simpit. I did dock because of the issues I did have accessing the driver utility, and the lack of the LED display working in some titles natively, and the lack of automatic Degrees of Rotation adjusting in some titles (where it was supposed to).

    • @momorious
      @momorious 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sim Racing Paddock but still there is something wrong with your wheel and you should contact support so they can have a look. Maybe others also suffer from not getting negative drift mode working correctly so this needs an investigation from support.
      Also for the lack of native support: Fanatec provides their SDK which needs to be implemented by the game developers. R3E and iRacing for example didnt implemented the newest SDK yet so you wont get the v2.5 leds working there or for R3E the DOR not working correctly. Not a bug on Fanatec side but on the game side ;)

I haven't even used it since, because it's just been a sore spot with me. Maybe this weekend I'll try some stuff on it. I honestly feel like you really have to know computer stuff to use this thing. I couldn't believe how difficult the whole sim racing stuff has been for me. I think it's just with the Fanatec stuff though. I don't know. It's the first time I've ever used anything like it.

      I really appriciate it bro. If I can't still get stuff going I'll reach out to you. I was just so looking forward to all of it when I first ordered everything. Then the wheelstand wasn't set up to accept the wheel base, even after I asked the lady that is the owner of the wheelstand pro business to please go online and look at what I was getting. She said she did and oh yeah no problem yes everything will work great. I got it all and spent a bunch of time drilling and having to make my wheelstand work. Honestly it still isn't exactly perfect. But It's in place and it's not going anywhere. Yeah man this has not been a fun nor easty experience so far. Plus I feel I should've just got the AF for the same price basically. UGH!!!

      What exactly isn't working on it? I recently bought the 2.5 forza motorsport bundle and i'm not really great with computers/technology.. but I couldn't get mine working. Send an email to fanatec of what was happening and they determined the xbox unversal hub they sent me was defective. They sent me out a replacement and sure enough it worked just fine. It really was just plug in and download the beta drivers as far as setting it up... although having a defective part had me scratching my head and pulling my hair out.

      it doesn't show up as xbox hub, it shows up as something else, even the computer guy thought it was really difficult to set up. I really don't think anything this expensive should every be hard to set up. I mean it should be as easy as a playstation or xbox in my opinion to set up. I wasn't looking for a pain in the ass kinda thing. I was just looking to having some fun and driving. It really is that much of a pain in the ass to set up. I was really annoyed.

      frank mathis normally the Fanatec wheels are not intended to be Plug&Play. But it is also not that difficult to set everything up. First you need to connect and power an all the fanatec gear you have to your pc. Then you need to set the wheel into pc mode and install the latest beta driver 281. After that you need to update the firmware to version 260 and then update the motor firmware to 018 so in your display of the rim should be 260/018 shown after power on the wheel. Is that the case on your one?
      After driver installation everything should work fine and you need to fine tune the FFB in all the games. Again, no plug&play here, this needs some skills to get the FFB right.
