- We have arrived in Siem Reap, Cambodia! Although it’s not the capital of Cambodia, it’s full of rich history, lovely cafes, great places to stay, and very welcoming people! From start to finish, we have a wonderful day exploring this new country! We sample some Khmer food, meet very friendly locals, and rest our heads in the most lovely little boutique hotel in Siem Reap. We definitely need a good night’s rest because tomorrow, we are heading to Angkor Wat, the biggest religious monument in the world.

It has been over 10 years since we were last in Siem Reap and we’re so glad to see you both there now! There were lots of dirt roads back then and surely a lot has changed and for the better! We went in 2016 and the beginning of 2020 and the change was unreal, a lot more infrastructure and locals actually seemed more economically prosperous. Can’t wait to go back.

Wow!! Siem Reap has grown a lot since my visit in 2001. Lots of paved roads and swimming pools lol. Angkor is so awesome I just loved exploring the ruins. The sunrises are worth it but it's not easy to find a quiet spot. Happy Travels

Siem Reap is looking great, they have done a lot of work with new/replaced footpaths and cables put underground, I believe a lot of shopfronts had to move back from the streets...now you don't have to walk on the road so much. Hope you get a fantastic sunrise over Angkor Wat, some beautiful temples around town, Siem Reap does have an unofficial nickname as Temple Town. Enjoy and safe travels.

Siem Reap is so nice! We’ve been there just a week ago. It is really touristy because of Angkor Wat, but maybe that’s why locals are so used to tourist and they are super nice and friendly! I’m also surprised how good they can speak English there. We are in capitol city now (leaving tomorrow to the island) and here less ppl can speak English. Or at least when you ask them they say that they can’t 😅

The Biggest Event in Siem Reap that is Khmer New Year Angkor Sangkran Official anouncements celebration in 2023. a hundred street foods, playing powder face, water fight, playing Khmer folk game, watched Khmer traditional game, Kun Khmer Boxing, Bokator Martial Arts , Joined Free Concert, Angel Sangkran Parade, watched free Royal Ballet.

The name "Siem Reap" comes from the Khmer language and is derived from two words: "Siem" meaning "Thais" and "reap" meaning "defeat," referring to the ancient conflict between the Khmer Empire and the neighboring Thai Kingdoms. The name is said to commemorate the victory of the Khmer King Ang Chan over the Thai forces in the 16th century. The name Siem Reap literally means 'Siam defeated'.

We visited Siem Reap for Christmas 2009 and we asked our guide about the seasons. He said there are two seasons in Siem Reap -- hot and hotter. I'm a large person and I really had a tough time with the heat but viewing the temples was an unforgettable experience. I agree with the commenter below that the town has grown tremendously in 13 years.

The t-shirts made me smile, my husband got the tuk tuk one because it was funny the amount of times we would get asked if we wanted one. It would become a joke how many times we would be stopped and offered a ride.

I've really enjoyed your video. And the hotel is to die for. If Thailand does not reverse their covid travel rules, we might have to change our plans to Siem Reap.
We love Siem Reap went in 2016 for our 25th wedding anniversary and again just before Covid went nuts in 2020. We can’t wait to go again and again. That place makes me feel mesmerised. The grab tuk tuk prices are super cheap, we always give a couple of dollars more as the owner is not generally the driver and we want some money to go in the drivers pockets.

The same with stall holders etc the staff are not the owners. We saw money being collected while we were there.
Lovely vlog thanks. Now you guys might know this already? but DON't get cash out of an ATM in Cambodia. You'll end up with $US50 notes and you can't spend them! Most places aren't able to make change from a $50, certainly not if its a small purchase from a local restaurant or tuk-tuk. I would recommend that you go into the bank and wait in the queue and ask for small notes, 10's and 5's. You might need your passport. You can tell I got stuck with large denominations! Also I would strongly recommend the APOPO landmine visitors centre. There are a few landmine museums and things in Siem Reap and they are all worthy, but I thought that this place was amazing. They use these very cute and friendly animals to detect the explosive BY SMELL. It's unreal. Simon From Melbourne.

I just spent the whole month of November in Siem Reap. It’s great especially the people and the restaurants. The Source is good. The best local cafe chain is Noi cafe especially one by the river. I rented a motorcycle and enjoyed driving around everywhere. New Leaf Eatery is good. There’s a good Greek restaurant on Pub street. There’s a good Japanese restaurant called Hashi. If you don’t order the expensive items you can get a good meal in these great restaurants for $10.
Funny you said Laos is more laid back. I have to go there. Now I’m back in Vietnam and I found Cambodia really laid back compared to Vietnam. Especially the drivers. Even the dogs are laid back and sometimes sleeping on the road

How did you rate Siem Reap to Kampot to Pnom Penh? I did see the Pnom Penh video where you commented Kampot was busy but locals thought otherwise. I was thinking of moving there and was wandering which city was beautiful and also nice people and good food

Spent two months in Siem Reap just before Covid. Rented a nice simple and secure apartment for $100 U.S. a month. Ate at little mom and pop local restaurants. Good simple food for a couple of bucks. You can really live good there for very little money.

FYI, when you visit Ankor Wat try to find a pillar that has a stegosaurus on it. They carved the stegosaurus with it's full body form. It is very strange because how did these people know what this dinosaur looked like back then when there was no internet or books with pictures about dinosaurs. Anyhow I overheard this from one of the tour guides and saw it with my own eyes. It was very very weird.
