Fixing an NT Carburetor That Leaks Gas for Motorized Bicycle 2-Stroke.

    This addresses all three NT carbs (Chinese NT, Bofeng NT and Speed NT) and also parts are not interchangeable for all three, trust me I have tried.
    Your four culprits are :
    1. Float filled with gas mix
    2. Gasket put on incorrectly
    3. Float arms open
    4. Another possibly is uneven carb but, from my experience it needs to be drastically unlevel.
    The Speed NT is superior and if you put this on your bike you will see the difference instantly :

    thanks for this video. while my NT carb leaked gas at the very first tank it seem to quickly correct the issue on its own. bower now I'm having starting and performance issues. I have boiled it down to a carb issue or the CDI just not dropping enough fire. I am leaning more towards the carb and completely intend to do a tear down clean the jets and check of the Carb over completly. Now, thanks to your video I know what to expect for this pictular carb and reassembly tips to boot. thank you. subscribed 🎉

      Thanks for the remarks brother. You can be certain that if it's pouring gas out of the air box, 99% it's either stuck float arms or the valve that is connected to the float arms are stuck.
      I always suggest to re-assemble upside down as it decreases the possibility severely of the arms or valve getting stuck again.
      I do have a question, what do you mean by performance issues? It sounds like you might of fallen into a similar trap I did. Don't listen to the people who claim they're getting 45mph on 10/44 gearing. You will be surprised how many people fabricate this info, which creates a domino affect as people are getting the preformance they should sometimes even more but are comparing to people that lie for no reason.
      What is the issue exactly?

      @@MikeNBikes turns out a vandictive neighbor who got me kicked out sabatoged the motor. In the end it threw a bearing and the piston went past TDC enough to smack the plug. Then seized that way. Contaminated gas with syrup or some shit. New motor will be here tomorrow.
      I get (with this last one) 50km/h no prob. When it was running right. Still breaking in. I followed your reassembly tips with zero issue.
      Ps: float was fine. That issue did strangely correct itself. Like you said sometimes the float arms can just get stuck. And perhaps that's what happened on the first fill up

      Thanks for the simple carb tutorial on the NT. Spot on. I needed a good memory refresher.. I rebuild my first yardboy 19"lawnmower in 1973. I've forgotten more about 2 stroke engine and carbs than I remember but it all comes back to me when I have a good teacher to remind me.I thank you. Peace.

    On a side note: we all know how gummy everything gets when your ride sets out the winter in the garage (one would hope). The gas (and alcohol), tends to evaporate, leaving oil clinging to everything as a form of gummy residue. When you pull the carb apart, before you do anything else, pull out the float needle and rub it clean with carb spray or starting fluid and a couple cotton swabs. Really make it sparkle. Check for signs of a ring around the needle tip. Replace it or chuck it up in a slow drill and work it out with a super fine stone if you have to. More spray and swabs are used to clean out the channel that it slides up and down in. You're done when they come out white. Then check out the needle seat (where the point stops the gas from entering the float bowl), if there is a wear ring, a tiny steel BBcan be slipped in and given a sharp smack, enough to form a sharp edge to the hole.
    Now, before changing anything else (besides a good spray down or soak), re-assemble the bugger and hook it up to a gas line. Assuming that you took care to do a good job, 99 out of 100 times, you will have fixed your leak. If not entirely fixed, with the carb inverted, set the float tangs to hold the float to a height of 20 to 21mm (averaged), above the body of the carb WITHOUT the gasket. Then re-assemble and give it a try. I nearly went crazy before I worked out all this, step by step.
    This was a fine video, keep up the good work. PS, before changing the jetting, examine what your normal type of fuel is.Alcohol requires almost one and a half times more fuel for the same amount of power that gasoline can give. If it runs fine on E-85 and your oil mix of choice, using gasoline and 2 stroke mix will run too rich. The other way around will cause it to run too lean. I learned to drain the gas station hose of the first half gallon into a separate jug because the hose holds about that much of whatever the last guy put in his car. Save that for the lawnmower. Sorry if this took a while, I'm old and have been a mechanic, engineer, machinist and everyody's "Mr Fixit" for 55 or 60 years, now. Just trying to lessen the steepness of the learning curve for those who might find it of some use. Laser on...

      Thank you, your comment is actually very helpful. I've been struggling with a pretty new80cc kit that was running just fine up until a couple of days ago and ran into performance loss issues as well as starting issues. I did run that ridiculous ratio of 16 to 1 which I now know it's pointless and it's about warm up and cool off periods at varying degrees of throttle as well as making sure all the bolts are tightened down after cool down between each run until it's no longer needed. I've pretty much diagnosed everything I haven't 100% ruled out a weak CDI but I definitely have spark. So I'm leaning more on the side that maybe that really rich ratio of oil contaminated the Jets in the carburetor or maybe the carburetor just isn't perfect from the factory, like a lot of these things from the chinese factories. So my plan is to take that carburetor off. Tear it down. Give it a good soak, just like we used to with the chainsaw Carburetors in the shop, maybe spray some starter fluid through the Jets check that float level distance on the bars, that is a great tip and thank you, and check the float itself obviously. Hopefully I can get these performance issues to go away and then start getting back to where the bike was running. as this is no fun when it's barely running at all and I kind of rely on it for my transportation. I also only have 500 km maybe 700 km on this motor. So I'm going to be awfully disappointed if I end up having to buy a whole new kit already. So I'm really hoping it's carburetor issue or something along those lines. Your comment coupled with this video is very helpful so thank you both

    Deck the top of the float bowl. Its responsible for most cronic leaky carbs.

    that is a simalar carburator after fixing a gas leak at the petcock it leaking bad like flooded bad so may explain whats going on but why would it fail after getting a new petcock with the gasket and useing gasline teflon tape i went through all this stuff on the bike like the engine hydro locked it wasnt it like a brand new carb the one that came with the kit was junk so after i fix the petcock today carb broke

      Nope, that is just from manufacturing. The way it is placed will not affect how the float works

    I have gas pooring out of my carburetor on my 80cc 2 cycle mortor.its voming ouy thr back of the carburetor whrte your filter goes on any suggestions

      Yes. Follow the instructions in my video and it will cover it.
      Either a stuck float valve, stuck float arms, bad gasket, OR your float is compromised and is filled up with gasoline. I have that in a separate video.
      I've also seen them leak after people try and adjust the float level.
      Always make sure to re-assemble upside down.

    all that.. not a bad video.. but why would you put it all back together WITHOUT adjusting the float level first.. SMH Hell learnt that before i was even 10.

      You shouldn't have to, it's that simple. Messing with the float arms is unnecessary and a great way to either disrupt fuel flow or fuel will just start pouring out. Ask me how I know? Personal experience.
      Oh wait that's right, you've been building these engines since the first combustible engine and you were the one who gave Don Grubee the idea to create BikeBerry, my bad.
