    I want to correct that at 1:50, those catnip/BBR CDIs do not advance your timing at higher rpm. They retard your timing. I believe by about 20 deg.

      The port map Smolik posted today on the A85 shows the ports have significant room to be raised. So to set your squish gap it would be better to space the cylinder upward and deck down the top of the cylinder until the squish is correct. (Obviously you should measure the timing of the ports in your particular cylinder before doing anything).

    • @peterjohn3180
      @peterjohn3180 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Do you know why they retard timing?
      It is because, with an expansion chamber, at peak power they effectively supercharge the cylinder,raising dynamic compression ratio, so timing needs retarding to prevent detonation.
      This is also why bikes in the 1980's/90's had low static compression ratio, like rd250 etc, I believe it was less than 7:1.

    • @trentbikes
      @trentbikes  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @peterjohn3180 probably. Its to safely Rev at higher rpm without advancing timing, without pre detonation. Doesn't help with gaining more rpm tho

    • @peterjohn3180
      @peterjohn3180 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can advance it with low compression ratio or retard it with high CR

      I hope your build went well. I just discovered this guy, and I'm impressed with the way his bike just screams! This guy knows his shit! I'm thinking of putting a Phantom 85 on a chopper frame. I just did a yd 100 on a Cranbrook, and it runs crappy. Constant 4 stroking, and so far nothing is working. I moved the needle, changed the carburetor. Nothing. Can't get the power jet to kick in. Top end speed is 28 mph. My first yd 100 got me 35 mph out of the box! I'm thinking about going back and taking off the head and checking the insides. I know I should have done that first, but I never really had to before.
      Again, good luck with that Phantom. I heard it's a very powerful motor and can get a wheelie from the get go. Sounds like fun!

    Try using minimoto exhaust expansion chambers.
    If you can weld you can pie cut etc for right shape to fit.
    When you raise exhaust port you lower compression ratio as the distance between the top of port and head is less.
    I raise mine about 2-3 mm!
    I lower inlet by the same!
    What is the cylinder you started with?
    Coated bore and enclosed transfers!
    All I can find is open transfer slots or cylinder with liner that makes lips.

    Use a pneumatic dremel that spins at ~30 000 rpm to get smooth cuts:
    The low rpm electric dremel catches and hooks making it jump around and difficult to control.
    Thx to it's higher rpms the pneumatic dremel doesn't do that. It cuts smooth.
    Also flap wheels work way better than cutting tools on the exhaust.
    Use a bench grinder to size and shape them to suit.
    You have to make your own small ones for the transfer ports.
    Smooth to 500 grit or higher. (That's where skin friction drops off)
    Do NOT underestimate the power of a proper Bell Mouth (Velocity Stack) on the intake.
    WITH a properly tuned length intake tract.
    Try for ram air (into the wind) but be aware that the float breather then also needs ram air and tiny bell mouth.
    Glass lengthwise; carbon widthwise reed valves.
    Stuffing the crankcase. Especially with all those balance holes. (Requires more calculation)
    Don't underestimate aero either. Even a small but proper aero front fairing makes a big difference.
    NB that the top of your wheels are moving forward at 2X the speed of the bike, Drag goes up by speed squared...
    So aero mudguards over the top 3rd of the wheel help more than most realise.

      @@trentbikes No you are incorrect. You are conflating the diaphragm design that works similar to a weak pump in response to a vacuum pulse but it definitely does not have a true fuel pump built in. You need to add an external mechanical fuel pump if you are going to run a diaphragm carb or you will suffer perpetual delivery issues as the diaphragm is in no way strong enough to work as an actual fuel pump!

    • @tauncfester3022

      @@bigcconservativeguy2534 Guess I've been doing it all wrong all along then. My weedeater engined, friction drive bike engine has been happily delivering fuel to the carb from a fuel tank set underneath it for 6 years now.
      Guess I'm going to have to find a "mechanical" pump...
      Oh that's right, pumping gasoline using vacuum pulses is what my old 2 cycle SAAB's did for 15 years of use, and most backpack leaf blowers and a lot of garden implement engines "pump gasoline" just fine using these little vacuum to mechanical pumps.

      The back wheel barrings coming loose seems to be a common problem idk if the BBR or Wheelmaster wheels are better or not haven't had a set or just a back wheel for motorized bikes yet....but something I am considering

    • @trentbikes
      @trentbikes  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@DJb-ill219 Idk about bbr, I think they're fine? I would feel safer with actual sealed ball bearings, because with just balls in the hub and axle, you do have to re-tighten every once in a while, you are also tightening the balls against a race that is also a wall inside the hub. Usually you don't want to tighten it too much, nor loosen it too much, just a little bit tight while still being able to turn the axle over, without any play.
      Gemini wheels are $400 a set, thick and big aluminum hubs, uses actual sealed ball bearings, and looks great overall. Or buy a set for $230 from a wheelbuilder, that I know, join my discord server and you'll find him, it's Mitchell's BikeWorks. (Note I haven't bought a set from him, nor do I know anyone who uses his set, but from what he's been saying in the dms, they seem like they will last a very long time)
