My boy just bought an engine for a bicycle, he installed it according to the manual, but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't start the engine. What could be the problem?
Ok I just put this motor on and it's not firing well expiring it stays cranked for a few seconds but it won't give it gas just like it it just won't give it fuel what does that sound like to you and how do I fix it

I’m having a problem with my bike. So I recently got my 80cc bike going and it was running smooth and was pretty powerful, it’s still in the break in stage but I leaned against the wall and it fell and I forgot to turn off the petcock so it flooded, I managed to get the bike running and it burned all the fuel out of the cylinder, it started to burn a lot of oil so I changed the mix to 25:1 instead of 20:1 and it seemed to smoke less but now when ever I go about mid speed it starts to shudder back and forth and the only way the stop it is to pull the clutch in. It will set off and run smooth at around running speed but any faster and it starts to shudder even with the clutch not fully engaged. Any thoughts?
Honestly that was the same kind of problem I started having before I decided to build my 4 stroke 120cc bike. My 80cc started doing exactly that, and it's usually fixable, but there's no guarantee. If I were you, I would try replacing the cylinder housing as well as the piston rings. Sometimes overtime when the aluminum heats up, it can warp which can throw things out of alignment. You could also take the engine apart and check for any carbon buildup, as you said it was flooded and even if you burned off the excess fuel and oil, there might be more carbon build-up as a result. Hopefully this helps! And good luck!!
Benjamin Carano Thanks for the advice, I did notice a lot of thick black oil build up in the exhaust which might have something to do with it being flooded and it was running way too rich at one point, I moved the E clamp on the needle up one so it’s running a lot better now and there’s also less smoke coming out the exhaust. I’ve noticed when I start to get on the throttle and it shakes if I just coast for a few seconds with the clutch still engaged and then get on the gas again the shuddering seems to go away or atleast be only a little bit there. I’ll definitely crack open the engine and have a look, I’m not sure wether it would have warped since it’s only been ridden about maybe 1 tank worth of fuel and not for a long period of time but yeh I guess cheap Chinese motors probably would.
Benjamin Carano Hopefully it’s not ,Thanks for the helpfull advice, I’ve only found ur channel yesterday and I love the content, keep the motorised bike stuff coming, love from Perth, Australia
just a update if anyone’s wondering I Think it was doing the shuddering thing due to a very weak spark. One side of the magneto magnet is weaker than the other which might be causing the weak spark. Today I cracked open the magneto case and took the magneto out and then sanded down the the back and front of it to get a better connection because there’s sorta coating on it from factory. So far I’ve tested it and it seems fine without a new magneto magnet. I may still need to order a new one which would be a shame due to this corona virus thing because it means delivery’s are 2-3 weeks longer for me even if they are based in Australia which is where I live. I have ordered a new NGK B6HS spark plug and am planning to put a BBR stage 1 or 2 CDI in the future.
and after I put the chain on it won’t roll the tire when I try to roll the bicycle the back wheel just locks up and what’s to slide on the ground how can I fix that and when I flip the bike over and move the wheel it wants to act like it’s going to start but when I put it on the ground it just skid on the ground
Sorry I got the DVR tuning and it just died on me going down the street so just be on the safe side I ordered a new CDI Magneto and carburetor it's all on it now and I still can't get it started now I made a makeshift head gasket out of an aluminum can and Monday my real head gaskets are coming do you think that could be the problem
The chain to my clutch/transmission is broken.., do u know where I could order a smaller thicker chain to fit it I’ve been to plenty of bike shops and ordered online from different sites and I have no idea where to get the chain I need, it’s a 80cc 4 stroke kit and I need some help finding a chain so I can’t get the bike moving
With my engine kit I bought I had to replace my Ignition coil, my spark plug, and my magneto coil because it wouldn’t fire at all. At that time I had just got it a few days before. Also I have a question, my choke keeps turning on when I’m going medium speed which I don’t really want because then that kills the engine. Any idea on how to fix that? I have that stock carburetor.
Yah my only suggestion with the choke stock carburetor is that you could either bend it in someway that it is harder to move and stays, or you could rig up something with rubber bands
I still use the NT carburetor I just took off the air filter and put on a velocity stack and then an air filter like the ones that come with the high performance ones
im having a problem. something is clinking pretty loud when the engine is off and the clutch is in just riding it normally. i checked for any chain rubbing and cant diagnose it. any suggestions?
I wouldn't be able to pin point the exact problem with that as it never happened to me, but my best guess is that it could either be a bad bearing that causes the shaft to shake around a little, or it could potentially be a loose gear in the gear case of the motor. I would take it apart and check that all the bolts are tight and nothing is physically broken. Hopefully that helps
Hey what's up I got a DIY 80cc motorized bicycle. Got everything put together and can't get it to start so I ordered a new CDI put it on I've got a spark still not wanting to start now should I just keep trying it and trying it cuz it's a new engine until it eventually turns over it's getting gas I mean it's basically doing everything it needs to be doing to start it's just not starting the throttle is hooked up everything to the max the clutches at the right spot.

hi there. i have a nt motorized bike, I got it back from the mechanic that builds these things and Im still having issues. plug keeps clogging up with oil, oil spraying over the exhaust manifold. i cleaned the exhaust out, cleaned the sparkplug, cleaned airfilter. after doing that, took it out for 12 minutes and it was perfect, then it started its clogging again. I have changed the mix from 25 mls to a litre, down to 20mls to a litre and still no change. what is even more weird is, when i turn the fuelcap to off before stopping, as it runs dry, the bike goes back to normal with the last remaining fuel, any idea whats going on?
@@BenCarano thank you for such a quick response, much appreciated 😀. I have the jet clip set to 2nd last to bottom, was thinking maybe I move the clip to 2nd from top ( there are 5 notches ), but then I thought why don’t I just decrease the fuel mix until I get the mix right. However, my concern is, I then might be starving it of oil and maybe damaging the engine by ie, seizing engine due to lack of oil🤔🙈

@@BenCarano thanks for the info. Before I change the carb, I'm thinking it could be the CDI unit. Possibility not enough spark to the plug. So tomorrow, I'm buying supposedly the correct one from the guy that fixed it, if that doesn't pan out, I believe you can test the plug in the dark, by placing the sparkplug to the side of the engine and if it sparks blue, your apparently OK, if yellow, CDI unit replacement. Two more things any engine you've got that you think might have you know a vacuum leak just start the engine and spray your starter fluid you've got there around the areas where there could be a vacuum leak and if there is a vacuum leak your engine will rev up when you do that. Not to be disingenuous on your prior knowledge but actually the stalk NT carb is actually more adjustable and works better than the hp carb in some situations. For my cases the NT carb will give your bike more torque and the hp carb I have found to have more smooth response and it caps out faster unless you have a tuned and a good pipe.
Yes! I have definitely found that to be true. Honestly I think the only upgrade that has really made a difference is a better exhaust, but the rest don't really work much better than the stalk components, especially for this particular motorized bike engine. Yah they might add a little more torque, but I personally don't think they're worth the money unless you're in some race and you need to do everything you can to make the bike go faster regardless of how reliable you want the motor to be.
My bike bogs at high speeds and sometimes once I launch it to turn on it idles well and great but when I rev it jerks and the bike loses power all I can do is idle it
Unfortunately the only advice for that is to replace your piston rings and housing, and hope for the best. That is a common problem that can cause that, but it may come down to having to get a new engine. Best of luck!
I'm having a problem with my newly purchased motorized bike. I just bought it recently, haven't really rode it much. It's not brand new, either. Basically, the rear wheel is completely seized up, even when I pull the clutch in. I've taken the clutch apart to try and free it, but to no avail. What should I do?
What to do if it only wants to run in high rpm and when you let go of the gas it starts shooting gas out of the carb and tries to stall i have tried many carb adjusments and still does the same

I could use some help. This is my first build and I just finished last night. I just got it started but it was instantly full throttle and it would stop. I held down the clutch and the engine eventually just stopped. I don’t think the throttle wore inside the cable is long enough because the throttle will only spin about a centimeter. Any tips?
Throttle is probably too short or the idle speed is too high. there are two adjustments for changing the length of the cable, one at the throttle grip and one at the carburetor. there is also an idle speed adjustment screw on the carburetor: turning it in will increase idle speed and turning it out will decrease it. It could also be that they just sent you the wrong size cable if none of the adjustments help. I haven't had much luck with the stock throttle assemblies myself.
You can definitely install it on a multi speed bike. The sprocket for the motor is on the other side so it shouldn't matter if it is a single speed or not. I had to get a conversion kit to make mine a single speed but originally it was a 7 speed.
Thanks for the 411 , your vid on part 3 on road testing the120cc honda gx bike looks and rides great. You demonstrated its road handling abilities and being able to climb steep grades pretty well. You should get into the motorized bike business.
I would go with a 76 or 78. I can't tell you for sure, because I live 7000 feet above sea level and a 65 to 68 is best for me, so I can only assume. However, you could look up a dirt bike jetting chart and compare the ratios.
Have u ever have pull start problems like way too much compression. When you pull the plug it pulls real easy you put the plug in that don't want to pull start at all exhaust and intake parts are clear
Tip with the magnets, if you have some powerful magnets you can re energise the flywheel with them i recommend some from the motor of an old bench grinder.
I just rebuilt my bike I did a top end new piston and head didn’t start after bought a new carb and exhaust and wouldn’t start changed the cdi and spark plug
These motors can last a very long time if you buy the right ones. Usually 5000-9000 miles though there is one documentation of one lasting 30,000 miles and still going. Other than that this is an alright video. Thanks
I got one for $10 from coworker...I go to ride it and pop clutch to start and it starts and idles low but will not rev up at all whatsoever and therefore the bike does not move
The other day my motorized bicycle started having issues to keep running. I at the time suspected bad fuel so I switched out the gas with a fresh batch and all was good... later the problem came back and I was back at square one! Yesterday I had a good ride without a problem only to have to limp home with a major issue. I cleaned the carb out and blew air through it to make sure there wasn't an obstruction. Next I looked at the spark plug, I replaced the factory cheap plug with one from a chainsaw. That was in prestine shape... test for spark??? No spark! I suspected a bad CDI ignition a few days ago and ordered a backup. Next I opened the magneto cover to see if something was grounding out.. When the cover came off the entire compartment was full of fuel! Now I suspect a bad seal! On inspection I found that the seal was not far enough in and the shaft was exposed on the end. Decided to first reseat the seal by tapping it farther in. I blew out the magnet and magneto the best I could and tried to run it. She fired up right away and ran reliably! I took it on a short run to see if there would be any fuel leaking out and found none. Problem was solved! Had I found this video earlier I would have had the motor problem fixed last week! Hope this helps someone in the future. 🙂
Put your old magnet on your steel door of refrigerator door an leave there for a couple months. It will even out. It may even out quicker i don't know. Mine was there a year when i noticed the fix.
My bike does not start and I had bought a new cdi but it still does not start but when I check my magnet, one side is very magnetic and one side is very low, do you think that might be the problem?
It could be, but no promises. Usually if it's a bad magnet the bike will still start or at least try to start, but it will stall out a lot and lose power. If it isn't starting at all or firing at all I don't think it's the magnet
The best fuel spray to use is your gas oil mix you put in the tank. Put that mixture in a oil can that has the little lever pump and spout. Any of those spray cans have no oil, it will literally wash the oil off the cylinder wall and piston. If ran long enough on that, piston will seize in cylinder
If you want a lot more power get a fat magneto or it's called a super magneto it just has more turns on it but you can really tell a difference. Try it!!!

@@flynnlee2378 yah it shouldn't have warped then, but it's possible. Hopefully you can get it working!
My 66cc is not turning off when i lift the choke l to turn it off. It just revs higher. Thwre are no airleaks.
Can somebody help me out
ur button broke for shutting spark off?
and after I put the chain on it won’t roll the tire when I try to roll the bicycle the back wheel just locks up and what’s to slide on the ground how can I fix that and when I flip the bike over and move the wheel it wants to act like it’s going to start but when I put it on the ground it just skid on the ground
Sorry I got the DVR tuning and it just died on me going down the street so just be on the safe side I ordered a new CDI Magneto and carburetor it's all on it now and I still can't get it started now I made a makeshift head gasket out of an aluminum can and Monday my real head gaskets are coming do you think that could be the problem
could be gaskets or even piton rings
Thank you , Ben Good job are you still in CO
Glad you enjoyed it! Yes I am still in Colorado a lot
I think it’s a number 42 chain
With my engine kit I bought I had to replace my Ignition coil, my spark plug, and my magneto coil because it wouldn’t fire at all. At that time I had just got it a few days before. Also I have a question, my choke keeps turning on when I’m going medium speed which I don’t really want because then that kills the engine. Any idea on how to fix that? I have that stock carburetor.
Yah my only suggestion with the choke stock carburetor is that you could either bend it in someway that it is harder to move and stays, or you could rig up something with rubber bands
Benjamin Carano Alright! Thanks a bunch
Benjamin Carano
Hi again! I was thinking about upgrading to a better carburetor I would like one with an automatic choke. Any suggestions??
@@stormy4269 This is the one I got with the automatic choke release www.bikeberry.com/66-80cc-high-performance-carburetor.html
Take air filter off and "tighten" bolt a bit
I still use the NT carburetor I just took off the air filter and put on a velocity stack and then an air filter like the ones that come with the high performance ones
Benjamin thank you so much for your video, time and your knowledge your really help me thank you
im having a problem. something is clinking pretty loud when the engine is off and the clutch is in just riding it normally. i checked for any chain rubbing and cant diagnose it. any suggestions?
I wouldn't be able to pin point the exact problem with that as it never happened to me, but my best guess is that it could either be a bad bearing that causes the shaft to shake around a little, or it could potentially be a loose gear in the gear case of the motor. I would take it apart and check that all the bolts are tight and nothing is physically broken. Hopefully that helps
is it the muffler cooling off ?
Hey what's up I got a DIY 80cc motorized bicycle. Got everything put together and can't get it to start so I ordered a new CDI put it on I've got a spark still not wanting to start now should I just keep trying it and trying it cuz it's a new engine until it eventually turns over it's getting gas I mean it's basically doing everything it needs to be doing to start it's just not starting the throttle is hooked up everything to the max the clutches at the right spot.
if its one of the 2 strokes like I have, they can literally be made wrong new out of the box. Had to get 2 of the cheap ones before I could get one to work. Never had this problem with any other engine except for this type. Not sure why. Good luck though!!
@@BenCarano I ordered the package expecting to get the picture that was represented but no it had no motor decal on it it was a totally different color.
@@bmaluginthevanishingman6034 Yah That was similar to my experience. That's the whole reason I did the honda 120 cc build
Heyy man i can’t get mine to work I bought it brand new and I followed all the steps but I notice when I put the spark plug in the engine doesn’t want to run and then when I take the spark plug out the engine runs perfectly but when the spark plug isn’t in the engine all the air come out from where the spark plug goes instead do you know why is it doing this ?
hi there. i have a nt motorized bike, I got it back from the mechanic that builds these things and Im still having issues. plug keeps clogging up with oil, oil spraying over the exhaust manifold. i cleaned the exhaust out, cleaned the sparkplug, cleaned airfilter. after doing that, took it out for 12 minutes and it was perfect, then it started its clogging again. I have changed the mix from 25 mls to a litre, down to 20mls to a litre and still no change. what is even more weird is, when i turn the fuelcap to off before stopping, as it runs dry, the bike goes back to normal with the last remaining fuel, any idea whats going on?
Have you adjusted the carburetor jets?
@@BenCarano thank you for such a quick response, much appreciated 😀. I have the jet clip set to 2nd last to bottom, was thinking maybe I move the clip to 2nd from top ( there are 5 notches ), but then I thought why don’t I just decrease the fuel mix until I get the mix right. However, my concern is, I then might be starving it of oil and maybe damaging the engine by ie, seizing engine due to lack of oil🤔🙈
@@angie4567B yah it can be finicky! I’d recommend a carburetor with actual fuel jets rather than the pin, you can have more control over it. Otherwise best of luck! Sometimes those engines just don’t want to run I’ve found, that’s the whole reason I did the Honda build
I'm determined to get this sorted out, if I have to get a jet carb, so be it, but I'm not letting this get to me.
ive been running my china doll 50cc for 5 years now winter -30 fires right up i got unbreakable one. only haave to replace magneto if rode in water but other then a couple tubes and wheel bearing shes mint
when my motor kicks on i need my peddles to not spin...what do i need for this not to happen? i believe its a chain that goes from the peddle to the motor
Yes I know exactly what your talking about! You will need a free hub sprocket for your pedals. They are probably a bit harder to find now though with covid.
Thank you so much!
@@pearlcullen8267 Sure, hopefully that helps. I haven't done that myself so I'm sorry I can give you a link or make it easier, but you should be able to find something!

can you help. my muffler gasket keeps burning out after 2 months riding it and screws get lose
use blue lock tight on the screws and replace it with a copper gasket
Two more things any engine you've got that you think might have you know a vacuum leak just start the engine and spray your starter fluid you've got there around the areas where there could be a vacuum leak and if there is a vacuum leak your engine will rev up when you do that. And on the the standard Muffler that they give you with these engines usually there's a screw on there end of it that you can drink it that you can unscrew and pull the guts out of it to clean them too at least I'm part of them yep it was helpful to me just Magneto thing I didn't know and hopefully you know maybe even one of my comments might help you I'm going to try out that new kind of chain guide thingy that I was talking about it looked interesting at least so thank you keep up the good work
is thhat a 6 volt or a 12 volt magneto? i'd like to put a 12 volt magneto on my engine so i'll have ample power for lights as well as the cdi
This one is the upgraded 12 volt! Yah lights would be a great upgrade!
@@BenCarano true, batteries are getting ridiculous again but I'm thinking about using a generator set for lights. even thought they produce AC they still are cheaper than batteries

is there a gasket between both halves of the engine? i couldn't see any
There is, it is just the stock one though and it is hard to see, I would recommend getting copper ones as an upgrade!
Yah they might add a little more torque, but I personally don't think they're worth the money unless you're in some race and you need to do everything you can to make the bike go faster regardless of how reliable you want the motor to be.
the cable may lose the rubber when oil drops onto it due to the vibration and movement against the bit it clips into.
If any of you are interested in links for parts or equipment that I use just let me know and I can post links in the description of this video!
Dude thank you so much I opened up my case on the side where the magneto is and fucking oil everywhere that bolt is loose as hell. I had no power
What are the screws called that holds the cover on the motor, 2 of mine are missing can anybody help
Mine are just fillips head screws, if they are missing though I'd recommend replacing them with Allen key ones so they don't strip out
My bike bogs at high speeds and sometimes once I launch it to turn on it idles well and great but when I rev it jerks and the bike loses power all I can do is idle it
Unfortunately the only advice for that is to replace your piston rings and housing, and hope for the best. That is a common problem that can cause that, but it may come down to having to get a new engine. Best of luck!
The float in the carburetor may be sinking. try replacing the float.
Just subbed, I'm interested to see the other 2 stroke engines you was on about at the end of the vid :p
Absolutely, I'd be happy to do a video about that!
The great Chester take the nut out the clutch and pull the clutch cable it should have some give if not unscrew the bolt and try again
If it has a coaster brake it may be seized up.
What to do if it only wants to run in high rpm and when you let go of the gas it starts shooting gas out of the carb and tries to stall i have tried many carb adjusments and still does the same
That sounds like you need a smaller fuel jet, but not sure entirely, could also be a bad spark plug
@@BenCarano figured it out i did not put a exhaust gasket on and it did not want to run beacuse of it when i put it on it ran like nothing had ever happend to it😂

I lunched a vintage 2 stroke snowmobile engine using too much starter fluid. There is no oil mix
just replaced almost everything on my bike motor but she still wont run it sounds like its trying to turn over but then dies down any ideas
at that point you're probably looking at a new motor if you have tried everything, sometimes these ones just go bad

Hello Benjamin can you install a motor to a 3 speed bike or does the bike have to be single speed??
You probably can if the bike fits the other requirements
As long as the engine fits into frame , you can do whatever with whatever .i would't go with the two stroke unless you enjoy working on sh!t.
if it fits
You can definitely install it on a multi speed bike. The sprocket for the motor is on the other side so it shouldn't matter if it is a single speed or not. I had to get a conversion kit to make mine a single speed but originally it was a 7 speed.
Thanks for the 411 , your vid on part 3 on road testing the120cc honda gx bike looks and rides great. You demonstrated its road handling abilities and being able to climb steep grades pretty well. You should get into the motorized bike business.

What kind of rims are those?
Velocity for the rear, and mavic for the front

Thanks for the vid. Very nicely done
I'm at 876ft above sea level what jet would you use for my hp carb from Ohio
I would go with a 76 or 78. I can't tell you for sure, because I live 7000 feet above sea level and a 65 to 68 is best for me, so I can only assume. However, you could look up a dirt bike jetting chart and compare the ratios.
Thanks man good looking out man
Have u ever have pull start problems like way too much compression. When you pull the plug it pulls real easy you put the plug in that don't want to pull start at all exhaust and intake parts are clear
What does it mean when my motorized bicycle wont stay running
I think you need to ajust carburator bolt maybe its to lean or to rich
I am not expert just guessing
clean the carb water?
Carb choke?

I fixed it today, the clutch was slipping. It will do every bit of 50 🙏👍
Tip with the magnets, if you have some powerful magnets you can re energise the flywheel with them i recommend some from the motor of an old bench grinder.

Damn dude. You know you only need one coke nail right? Lmfao just kidding bro great info rock them edward scissor hands!
The throttle cords like that so when you turn the handlebars your engine doesn't rev up
These motors can last a very long time if you buy the right ones. Usually 5000-9000 miles though there is one documentation of one lasting 30,000 miles and still going. Other than that this is an alright video. Thanks
They gall wrist pins like nobodies business they last about a year before they need a top end rebuild
I got one for $10 from coworker...I go to ride it and pop clutch to start and it starts and idles low but will not rev up at all whatsoever and therefore the bike does not move
Good info. Thanks!
How much for the cdi
the one I have is about $20
I just put new carb on Nd now it won’t start
glad you got it working mate!
Air, Fuel, and Spark? Not quite. Air/Fuel Mixture, Spark, and....Accurate Valve Timing ( with sufficient compression).
yes, to be more accurate you are correct
Rite on keep doin your thing
What if it runs off str8 gas
You will harm the engine! It needs to be lubricated. However these engines tend to break down so fast anyway that idk LOL!
Put your old magnet on your steel door of refrigerator door an leave there for a couple months. It will even out. It may even out quicker i don't know. Mine was there a year when i noticed the fix.
Oh nice trick!
Really great information .jus my pet pev is them fingers nails
My guess would be he is a finger-picking guitarist or classical.
I know right😂
Nice thinking
True true good 👍 to know.
The last thing (the Mac spray bottle) is pretty much stupid stuff, use a carb cleaner instead and it will work the same.
Try it!!!
The magnet gets less magnetic because of the heat you must run it hot
13:50 ~ C-clip
Informative , i sold gave away or threw away every thing i had for these engines , to me they are just that bad.
