The thunder cloud is actually one of my favorite items. Me and my best friend freak the bleep out whenever we see someone with the thunder cloud.
I feel like blooper is way to underated on maps like koopa city you can easily fall of bc it makes it more slippery

My only guess is that it existed in every Mario Kart game, so that makes it liked more but still it doesn't make much sense. Then again, it could be more about what they liked more rather than simply which item is better.
i'm assuming it's because of the rarity? Star is much more common to get in a middle spot than those 2 items
Also somebody can steal it from you if they hit it, maybe that's part of the reason. Because you'll likely be near somebody when you're in one of the positions where you can get it.

The redshells are scarry in DS they sometimes evade your defence attaking you from the side
MkWii had the most balanced red shells. You could dodge them by being skilled.

Man, the Thunder Cloud 🌩 could actually be a very useful, strategic item, if you could choose when to use it.

I actually really like the thunder cloud, yes it sends you in panic but that's what makes it unique and adds to the item strategy since you're forced to use it

Well each item has it’s pros that overpower eachother, for example; they both remove items but the shock removes items in front of you, you have to get hit with BB
Item 16, I prefer it as “Boom box”. When it makes a loud sound disabling the racers and other obstacles, it goes BOOM with the stretching of sound waves going all directions. That’s also why I believe it to be BOOM BOX.
I would say the blooper serves it purpose when you’re new to a track. However for most people who know the tracks quite well it doesn’t o much because you already know the track
9:37 Quick correction, the Mega Mushroom doesn't block lightning, it only makes it shrink you to normal size as opposed to being tiny.

I'd personally rank Bullet Bills higher than Lightning, but Lightning still affects everyone else ahead of or behind the user.

Coin is actually very big brain item, in competitive races, we use coins as an “anti-boo” system. This way, when someone is front running, they don’t have to worry about a boo taking their banana or shell right before getting hit. Plus, when you have a coin, the second item you get is a guaranteed defensive item (shell, banana etc). This is of course only on mk8 delix
When the Boo item came back for MK8 Deluxe, I feel like they've weakened it. I swear it was better in 64 and DS.

In Super Circuit, the boo slows you down for 10 seconds and takes 5 coins when you get hit by it, in addition to the normal effects, and appear as normal stage hazards on broken pier.

The red shell in Mario Kart DS can sometimes avoid being blocked, but it doesn’t stop you for too long. In Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, they seem to spawn at least 6-7 a race.

I'll never understand why out of any game they added the Blooper they added it in Mario Kart DS. You know one of the two games that gives you a bottom screen that you can use to see the rest of the race.

@@Avriel_Mimiga the game pad's map is nowhere near as fleshed out as MKDS. You can literally play the whole game with the bottom screen on the DS, items show up and everything.

My ideas for Mario Kart Items:
Lakitu- A lakitu picks you up and drags you forwards really fast for a few seconds, like a way shorter bullet bill. It flies above the track so it can't hit other racers, but Ii leaves behind a spiny where it picked you up, which acts just like a banana. This makes it useful if someone is right behind you because you can get away from them and possibly hit them with the spiny.
Golden Shell- very similar to the green shell, but if you use it for defense it can block 2 items instead of one. When you throw it, it acts like a green shell but bounces for twice as long, causes a slightly longer spin-out, and it can’t hurt the person who threw it. If it had already blocked one item before you threw it, it will only go half as far.
Cloud Flower- This one time use item allows you to create a bouncy cloud directly below you, which you will immediately bounce on, similar to a bouncy mushroom but with a much smaller bounce. This gives you a small speed boost and can allow you to cross small gaps, as it can be placed even if there is no ground below you. However, it lasts for 5 seconds, so other players can bounce on it too if they are quick enough.
Fuzzy- A giant fuzzy the size of a kart circles around your vehicle for 10 seconds. It can block an unlimited amount of items while it is circling you, but it circles rather slowly so there is a decent chance the item will still hit you if you aren’t careful. If you hit other players with it, they will spin out for a long time (2.25 seconds). You can still use and collect other items while the fuzzy is circling you.

The boomerang flower deserves a higher place in my opinion. It can bypass enemy defenses. It even breaks whatever shell, banana, etc.
Green shell’s usefulness depends entirely on the track your playing, since it can go off the edge of the map. It’s utterly useless in Rainbow Road from long distance.

I still love the way Double Dash's items worked. It made every character more unique and the fact that everyone had their own special weapons was awesome!
I love the fake item box. If you go around just setting it at random places, then yeah, it's easy to detect and avoid; but the key is to put it in the same area as other item boxes. With the banana, the key is to put it around curves where people usually drift or to put it at a narrow pathway, like a bridge.

something i want to mention is in mario kart super circuit you can drop the red shell behind you and it will sit there like a banana until someone passes by it and then it goes after that player

Red shells can be spawned at 2nd place which is an easy pick for first place and really reliable
In my opinion, I think the Lucky 7 and Crazy 8 is better than the Star, because they're both a star and a bunch of other items combined. Another downside though, is that other players can take your star as it's rotating around your kart.

One fun thing about the Crazy 8 that I don't think most people know is that it only gives you items that are available in the ruleset. so with custom Item sets you could make it so it only gives you mushrooms, Stars, or even Bob-Boms. That last one is fun, You ever just see a string of explosions going off in a row within seconds of each other? Me and my friends have a Item set we call "The Michel Bays Special" where all it is is Bob-Boms, Blue Shells, Horns, and Crazy 8s. It's wild. Seeing 20 Blue shells converge on a single person at once is something Magic. Even if it's you.

Unpopular opinion: I think the lucky 7/8 is a very bad thing to get. It throws me off completely, and you have to time your shots.
The only problem with timing them rather than spamming them is that in the chaos, random people can steal your stuff like the star.

I have a good concept for a potential item in the newer titles, an item which when used forces everyone to use their item automatically even if they don’t want to but without them spinning out, essentially a more powerful pow block and when the item is used the player speeds up for around 7 seconds, this could make gameplay more competitive and optimise strategy, it could also eliminate item smuggling.
