@@chl_ca N64 has on average the best list of original race tracks. At least 12/16 of them are super iconic and great to race one. I'm used to playing Forza and other simulation racers so Mario Kart 64 is not generic to me. The feel of the kart is very impressive for its time and better all mario karts except for 8. Overall the game is more subtle, that doesn't make it bad or generic. The only bad Mario kart is the original Super Mario Kart.

I swear Nintendo was drunk when making karts for Mario Kart DS. You've got karts like the Mushmellow, the Poltergust 4000, A giant Crane, and a pair of fricking robot legs
Mario Kart DS is my favourite one in the franchise too! The second screen came in real handy to seeing what other opponents behind you where up to. The music was top notch, the battle modes were fun. The mission modes was amazing and something I wish they’d bring back. It also changed up the scoring for races, which made it more balanced.

Mario kart double dash is one of my all time favorite Mario kart titles. In fact it is even one of my childhood. I have been playing Mario kart double dash for 12 years. And one thing that don’t like about Double dash is no single player vs mode, and same with the battle mode. Everything else is incredible!
Meh. Double dash all the way. Having a party and being able to play it with 8 people on lan makes it the ultimate experience. Wii is great and more extensive, but lavks the punch. And Ds is the best game to play with friends on the go, by far. But double dash is the meelee of mario karts. You actually have to be skilled at it to really enjoy this game. And that makes it my number one. Also: Double dash has the best songs, fight me. Also coconut mall? Don’t make me laugh. Maybe iconic, but about as good as any map from double dash. And need I remind you of the terror that is Baby park? yeah. That was a really good stage in double dash. Just imagine having to dodge two bowser shells while some dude with a star zips by you and a chain chomp crushes you, while bob ombs detonate around you and green shells fly around the place while you’re trying not to drive into bananas or fake item boxes. A classic.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is my favorite Mario Kart game. Also, I just realized that I borrowed Nintendo DS from a friend some time ago and it has Mario Kart DS on it, I'll definitely give it a shot.
8 and 7 are the underrated ones. And they are my favourite. Wii is one of the worst mario karts and the most overrated. Everyone who thinks that wii is the best it is because they grew up with it
I loved Double Dash, it was such a brilliant game! A shame that getting a "double dash" wasn't mentioned in this review. This was when you had two human players controlling one Kart (one driving, one on the items) and you both hit accelerate at the right time at the start of the race, the boost was incredible 🔥
I still remember the time six-year-old-me was playing the All-Cup Tour on Mario Kart Double Dash and decided I wanted to watch a replay of my 14th race. Then halfway through I was ready to get going again so I quit the replay... and was taken back to the start screen. I cried.
I want to see a game with: -Mario Kart Tour’s characters -Mario Kart Wii’s vehicles (and wheeling) -Mario Kart 8’s kart customization -(Maybe) Mario Kart Double Dash’s double characters -A shop (with no paywalls) -Some type of multiplayer -Mario Kart 64’s battle mode -Quests like in Mario Kart DS -(Maybe) All the tracks (SHROOM RIDGE) I think that’s enough
My parents never had a problem with me having my games and electronics on in my room. And yet somehow this comment reaches out to me on a personal level.
One thing I always loved from MKDS that i really wish they’d brought to MK8DX was the custom emblems. You’d see some pretty amazing stuff online, plus you could make your kart truly unique! Bring it back Nintendo!
there's a reason they didn't bring them back 1. it'd be clunky to draw on the Switch, whether it be with a controller or your finger 2. nobody can see these emblems on the front of the kart 3. people would use it to draw crotchy images

@George Washington Entertainment and everyone else The primary draw of Super Circuit, known as Advance in Japan, was the focus of SS as a Mario game. My point has a lot to do with the idea that Mario Kart gradually became a series of its own, but that was not it's origin. Super Mario Kart cannot be understood to be a Mario Kart game. It was not the series as we know it, but rather a side game of the Super Mario series. Coins and item panels are borrowed from the main series, as is the idea of stage hazards, now track hazards. The enemy exclusive items have individuality to the CPUs, which were not opponents, but rather enemies to be beaten, and power-ups serve thus the same role as in the Mario games. The idea of cups might have been based on the idea of worlds, although very different in manifestation, and rankings and trophies a more prevalent version of scorekeeping. This last theory is partially based on the points given in the main series for defeating enemies. The life system of the game was similarly based on the main series, where you also have a certain number of lives to complete a level, although without 1-ups present. Mario Kart 64, I would argue, was the first game of the standalone series. They took out several game mechanics, such as coins and lives (although forced track replays were kept), changed others, such as replacing expiring item panels with the iconic regenerating item boxes. The 3d gameplay was heavily emphasized, particularly in tracks with multiple levels, such as Yoshi valley, but they disincentivized the jumping machanic, which contributed to a lot of the previous game's platforming in tracks like DP-3. Overall, this game moves away significantly from the Mario series. Then comes Super Circuit. This was the final of the 2 sidegames, after which the series moved firmly toward something new. Let us just discuss, for a moment, MKSS. The game brought back the coin mechanic and made it more important, using it as a stamina meter. This is in a way similar to the way coins work in the main series game, both being used for extra stamina in a stage, even with their significant differences. The 100 coin threshold was still important in the nitro tracks, as this was a requirement to unlocking the SNES tracks. They also brought back the life system seen in SMK, which implies a return to main series mechanica. The ambiguity in the cup format was also recompensed; 3 cups ended with a Bowser's castle, and in a forth it was penultimate before rainbow road, which all the games end in, and draws similarities to a "Bonus World " found in some fo the other games. The third cup does not end in a Castle, but it does end with a sunset, which implies each cup takes one day, and thus provides a reason the absence of a Castle. The jumping mechanic becomes important again for several track shortcuts, such as Riverside Park and Sky Garden, while the removal of the cape feather turned some feather shortcuts into jumping shortcuts, such as the ghost valley shortcuts. The game also includes a lot of 3D platforming in the jump pad shortcuts, many of which need to be used with boost panels found before the jump, such as Ribbon Road and Lakeside Park, which require therefore left-right inputs as opposed to aiming once at a target and just sitting as you follow a linear path. Several mechanics based on the mains series were never seen again after SS, and we desperately need another "Mario" Kart-game again.
That's what I was about to say. The POW Block isn't that bad, and it usually gets hated on for rather poor reasons. The Thunder Cloud, on the other hand, deserves the large amount of hate it gets.
Mario Kart DS was also my number one favorite back in the day and literally, don’t forget about how the credits after beating the special cup or the whole CC went, it felt so heartwarming for me and very great to look at nowadays.
I am glad Mario kart ds got number one. The game is nostalgic. I remember back in third grade when my friends and I would just keep playing the game. And it easily has the best race tracks. Waluigi Pinball, Luigis Mansion, and Airship Fortress are unmatched imo. Not to mention the ds was my first gaming device and this was the first game I got.
When he said for starters in the MKSC section, all i could think of was ‘For starters, the background has a Yoshi Head, which I don’t care who you are, this is flat out hilarious and epic at the same time...’
I feel like each Mario Kart game had a redeeming factor. Hear me out: -SMK was the first one. -MK64 set the standards for current Mario Kart, whether it’d be the controls or the 3D tracks -MKSC was the first handheld -MKDD was super creative and introduced the mini-turbo -MKDS introduced retros and Mission Mode -MKWii added tricks, and bikes -MK7 added gliding, underwater, and customization -MK8 added Anti-Gravity, ATVs and their retros are amazing!!! -MK8D added the Ultra Mini-Turbo and brought back some old battle mode features
Here is my top 3 1. *Mario Kart Wii* I absolutely love this game's tracks and characters, along with its online features. I loved the online tournaments and challenges. To put it simply, it's awesome (and I probably love it because of nostalgia). It just barely beats out number 2 because of its huge modding community. I loved watching videos of these mods on TH-cam when I was little. Good times. 2. *Mario Kart DS* This was the first Mario Kart game that I ever played, and I played it when I was little, so yeah, nostalgia city. While its graphics definitely weren't very great, it is still really fun to play. Bikes were an awesome addition, even if they were overpowered. Snaking everywhere was awesome, its maps were diverse and fun, and it had really cool looking karts, probably my favorites in the series. Also, its mission mode was AMAZING and I can't believe it hasn't come back in another Mario Kart game. It kinda sucks that this game introduced one of the wirst items into the series (blooper). 3. *Mario Kart Double Dash* I don't need to do a lot of explaining here. It's just so much fun to play with 2 characters and switch around items and whatnot. It's so unique and definitely the most fun Mario Kart game in my opinion. Although it's super fun to play, since retro tracks weren't included in the series yet, the lack of very many courses is what makes this lower than the top 2.
@@-vgn-nia3854 Bruh. The physics _are_ broken. They're good enough to work, but they're still wonky and inconsistent at times. Don't get me wrong, it's a really good game and I like it a lot. The big problem I have with MK8 and Deluxe are the flying red shells. Red shells which are able to fly through the air and hit you is way to OP. Also, the drop rate on them is also pretty high I think..
I know it’s dated and can’t hold a candle to what came after, but Super Mario Kart has always had a special place in my heart. It was the first one I played when I was a kid and still to this day, when I’m in a Mario Kart mood, it’s always the one I come back to to play time and time again. SMK is what I imagine when I think about Mario Kart even though I’ve owned and spent lots of time with every single one. I can play it anywhere now thanks to the handy Switch SNES game collection. Those Mode 7 faux 3D graphics, the upbeat 16-bit melodies, my favorite drifting in any Mario Kart game, playing as Koopa Troopa before he’d become unavailable in the next several installments - it’s still a very special game to me, and I’ll always love it. It’s slightly disappointing to always see it bottom out everyone’s Mario Kart rankings
Cobrak1ng Wii’s overrated, and not that good. The controls are MUCH better and more consistent in DS. Also, it’s less item-lucky than Wii. Finally, DS has Mission Mode while the Wii does not.

"Nobody likes the POW Block or the Thunder Cloud" I will stand by that the POW Block is the most strategic item ever introduced in Mario Kart, and that it can be devastating when used effectively, especially in clan wars (And that it should absolutely return in Mario Kart 9)
It's hard to strategically use an item when it punishes players by a quarter of a second of lack of control. It is absolutely not strategic as long as you're able to perform tricks
I respect your opinion. But I hate the POW Block. You have to shake the Wii Remote to dodge it and it just gets annoying every time, since it comes often. And you lose your items no matter if you shake the controller or not. Back when I first started to play Mario Kart Wii, I had trouble getting the timing to dodge it too. By the way, I am aware that using a classic controller is easier to dodge it.
@@big_egg953 Fair, on certain tracks with a lot of ramps its definitely not as devastating, but on some of the shorter courses or retro courses, getting rid of everyone else's items can potentially be very effective.
If you keeping doing a wheelie while the pow block is about to come you can keep your momentum, however only possible with a bike (so possible all the time basically). At least in MKWii The fact you can spread bananas and shells like this as hazards can actually be beneficial

Yeah it just gives out shock dodges in to high positions if you are lucky (or teaming with someone) and even without that an invincibility item in positions 4-6 is just to much.
Mega Mushroom is one of the worst items in the entire franchise. It's just a star but you a slightly bigger, it lasts for like 5 seconds, you barely get any speed, it's rarely useful, and getting it just feels like a total bummer. It's fun in battle mode though, since there it's actually viable.
@@charKT-7461 Mega Mushrooms at least in todays online play are broken af. The long period of off-road invincibility is really strong with the amount of off-road that Wii tracks have and you can get it in high placements + it gives you the chance of a shockdodge which almost guarantees you a win + you just are invincible to all the bombs shells bananas and all that stuff that flies around in MK games. I would say it is to strong for where you get it. Not to weak

Mario Kart 7 will always be my favorite. Really, though, that's because after double dash every game is exactly the same with only stuff like flashier graphics or maybe a gimmick that mildly changes the gameplay. Like, anti gravity is only aesthetic and doesn't change the gameplay at all besides the rare chance that you bump into someone. At least the glider has more differences. All I'm saying is it's okay if you disagree because your favorite game is highly dependent on nostalgia. That's not immediately bad, though, it just makes you different, which is great.

You can actually connect to the fan servers without ctgp, the servers are called wiimfi and they have a separate app but since ctgp has it integrated+custom tracks people use it directly from there
What I don't like about Super Mario Kart is that you're punished so hard for making the tiniest of mistakes. Like, if you don't finish 1st, 2nd or 3rd, you get 'ranked out' and are forced to play the track again, but you can only do that 3 times, otherwise, Game Over. Also, mistakes during races are just horrible. You can easily fall way behind if you mess up.
My list of 8: 8-Super Mario Kart (Hasn't aged well) 7-Super Circuit (Fun to screw around but gets outclassed by other hand helds) 6-Wii (Love the bikes but the mechanics are poor and the items are bs) 5-64 (Flat out fun and some great tracks but broken mechanics) 4-MK 8 (Probably the best tracks in the series but battle mode is ruined) 3-MK 7 (Very underrated and imo has by far the best controls. Also introduced underwater and glider) 2- Double dash (Probably the most fun in terms of racing and the items were awesome) 1- DS (Had additional things that we never saw again such as missions and emblems, introduced online, retro tracks, solo VS mode, and solo battle mode, and was overall just packed with content and the most revolutionary for the franchise)
Here’s mine: 1st MK8 (I won’t count Deluxe cause it’s literally the same except with some minor details here and there). 2nd MKDS (this is the first ever Mario Kart game I played. Mario kart double dash is one of my all time favorite Mario kart titles. In fact it is even one of my childhood. I have been playing Mario kart double dash for 12 years. And one thing that don’t like about Double dash is no single player vs mode, and same with the battle mode. Everything else is incredible!
DS Wii and double dash are the legendary ones, for me at least
And 64 has the best battle mode
If you need to choose would you choose Wii or DS
Yeah i think Wii is better too but the track selection of the DS is good too
A classic.

-Mario Kart Wii’s vehicles (and wheeling)
-Mario Kart 8’s kart customization
-(Maybe) Mario Kart Double Dash’s double characters
-A shop (with no paywalls)
-Some type of multiplayer
-Mario Kart 64’s battle mode
-Quests like in Mario Kart DS
-(Maybe) All the tracks (SHROOM RIDGE)
I think that’s enough
I think double dash should be it’s own mode in the next game and it would have special character items li in the original

@George Washington Entertainment and everyone else
The primary draw of Super Circuit, known as Advance in Japan, was the focus of SS as a Mario game.

1. *Mario Kart Wii*
I absolutely love this game's tracks and characters, along with its online features. I loved the online tournaments and challenges. To put it simply, it's awesome (and I probably love it because of nostalgia). It just barely beats out number 2 because of its huge modding community. I loved watching videos of these mods on TH-cam when I was little. Good times.
2. *Mario Kart DS*
This was the first Mario Kart game that I ever played, and I played it when I was little, so yeah, nostalgia city.
3. *Mario Kart Double Dash*
I don't need to do a lot of explaining here. It's just so much fun to play with 2 characters and switch around items and whatnot. It's so unique and definitely the most fun Mario Kart game in my opinion. Although it's super fun to play, since retro tracks weren't included in the series yet, the lack of very many courses is what makes this lower than the top 2.
In my opinion, MK Wii's physics are absolute apeshit. One of the reasons why it is one my lesser favorites.

I will stand by that the POW Block is the most strategic item ever introduced in Mario Kart, and that it can be devastating when used effectively, especially in clan wars
(And that it should absolutely return in Mario Kart 9)

It was an accesory for the NES that you could use to play certain games I think
When me and my friends played 64 we would always play battle mode on the big donut, but we wouldn't try and hit eachother, we'd just go around and around laying down bananas and fake boxes and try to avoid them.
My Top 10:
10 - Mario Kart Tour
9 - Mario Kart Double Dash (haven’t played it)
8 - Super Mario Kart
7 - Mario Kart Super Circuit
6 - Mario Kart 8
5 - Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
4 - Mario Kart Wii
3 - Mario Kart 64
2 - Mario Kart DS
1 - Mario Kart 7
Wait whaaaaat
I agree on most of it
The Iwoomynati I would if I had a GameCube!
@@QKanoni you can with wii but u need GameCube controller but depends if u have old wii
I know wii is not 4th in here
Am I the only one who liked the pow block? I never had much of a gripe with it, it's very creative, and strategic. And it's also easily avoidable too, as long as you're on the air, you can avoid being stopped by it
You aren't alone. There are other people who like the POW Block in Mario Kart Wii, and I'm one of those people.
Got Mario kart DS like 3 weeks ago for my brand new new 3DS xl
My cousin Q has Mario Kart 7 for his 2DS so I think I get what you are saying.
"The new additions are kind of lame"
Mega mushroom: are you calling me lame?
yes
Yeah it just gives out shock dodges in to high positions if you are lucky (or teaming with someone) and even without that an invincibility item in positions 4-6 is just to much.
Mega mushrooms are just scuffed stars
Not to weak
Nathaniel 2016: *put Honey Queen and Wiggler in Top 10 Worst Mario Kart Characters*
Nathaniel 2019: "You can play as Honey Queen and Wiggler, which is cool"
14:45 "It's also got Woomy" She's the best racer ^^
Nah that turd sucks. Dry Bones is way better
My List:
10: Mario Kart Super Circuit
9: Super Mario Kart
8: Mario Kart 64
7: Mario Kart Tour
6: Mario Kart 8
5: Mario Kart DS
4: Mario Kart 7
3: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
2: Mario Kart Double Dash
1: Mario Kart Wii
@MasterMario
Mario Kart Tour over 64? That’s… interesting.
Out of curiosity, why SMK over Super Circuit?
Cant tell if 1 is worst or best because that the only one I ever played
bhull242 The reason why Super Mario Kart is above Super Circuit is because it’s just more fun to play and the every time your approaching a turn in Super Circuit there are arrows every single time which gets so annoying.
Heh only just realized how resiculous the prices are in mk tour
Like tbh mk tour is a good game when u get used to it. But the prices and gold pass concept really kill the game
If you remove gold pass and offers but still have a way to access red items and multiplayrr. Easily it would be one of the best mobile games
@MasterMario
I can see that, especially the arrows. That can get really annoying.
I personally prefer Super Circuit, especially its version of Rainbow Road, but I get where you’re coming from.
I love that Nathaniel puts his advert at the end of the video so that it doesn’t interrupt viewing experience - simple things like that are a big thumbs up.
My top 8 Mario kart games
8: Super Mario Kart
7: Mario kart 7
6: Mario kart 64
5: Mario kart 8
4: Mario kart DS
3: Mario kart Double Dash
2: Mario kart 8 Deluxe
1: Mario kart Wii
Haven't played Super Circuit
Why is everyone ranking Wii and DS so high? Am I the only person who gets really pissed off if games that have broken/overpowered mecanics?
NSEddie Where’s Double Dash, the GameCube one?
@@doomse150 which mechanics break mkwii? im guessing bikes but its not like you need to be highly skilled to use them so they arent very broken
@@big_egg953 Wheelies are broken af. Noone uses karts in current online Play which is really bad game design imo. The fact that it isn't hard to do is even worse because it just increases the gap between karts and bikes even more
@@tavenalexander5469 Fixed it😅
When you said "you can play the Mario Kart tracks backwards.", Im now going through your Mario Kart backwards series again.
0:40 theres a setting while racing that lets u play in landscape mode
@PumpkinHead1021 he uploaded the video before the feature was added. You observe more carefully
Before watching this vid I already know Mario Kart DS is going to be on number 1
Same
I felt it like I felt a Blue Shell coming before it’s even used.
Me too
Mario Kart 7 will always be my favorite.
14:55 the barrel roll follwed by a spin looked pretty neat.
Mario kart Wii was one of the games of my childhood, and I still play it online to this day.
Merry Christmas
I can't play it online :( but I agree it's the best Mario Kart
Top 10 2010's Mario songs anyone?
Yes pls
His scripting style would be interesting as a way of describing music.
You just gave him an idea omg
He already made it

Man, I remember playing the original Mario Kart 8 on the WiiU with my older sister for hours, and loving every second. We would try to beat every track in one sitting. Ah, memories.
I loved it too
Yasss! Thank you Ds was my childhood.
I still have it actually!
I broke my top screen from shaking my ds too much when getting frustrated I lost in mirror mode repeatedly lol. But that bottom map was so amazing I was able to keep playing.
My cousins were so frustrated that I was able to dodge their blue shells due to me knowing they had it ;)
I actually had MarioKart DS growing up as one of the first video games I ever played. I'm so happy it was #1 on this list.
You can actually connect to the fan servers without ctgp, the servers are called wiimfi and they have a separate app but since ctgp has it integrated+custom tracks people use it directly from there
Mario Kart Ds and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe definitely have the best battle modes.
14:35 *laughs in booster course pass*
This age well
What I don't like about Super Mario Kart is that you're punished so hard for making the tiniest of mistakes. Like, if you don't finish 1st, 2nd or 3rd, you get 'ranked out' and are forced to play the track again, but you can only do that 3 times, otherwise, Game Over. Also, mistakes during races are just horrible. You can easily fall way behind if you mess up.
I remember when i bought Mario kart 8 deluxe and found cops and robbers mode
Me and my friends played it for 2 hours and he had a blast
yeah that's the only good new battle mode IMO, they screwed up balloon battle and coin/shine runners
@@leonpaelinck yeah i loved balloon battle on mkds

Still remember getting my Wii U with Mario kart 8 as a bundle! Nostalgia!
How many times do I have to see you bruh
im so happy mkds is no.1 here. mkds was my first mk game, so much nostalgiaaaaa
My list of 8:
8-Super Mario Kart (Hasn't aged well)
7-Super Circuit (Fun to screw around but gets outclassed by other hand helds)
6-Wii (Love the bikes but the mechanics are poor and the items are bs)
5-64 (Flat out fun and some great tracks but broken mechanics)
4-MK 8 (Probably the best tracks in the series but battle mode is ruined)
3-MK 7 (Very underrated and imo has by far the best controls. Also introduced underwater and glider)
2- Double dash (Probably the most fun in terms of racing and the items were awesome)
1- DS (Had additional things that we never saw again such as missions and emblems, introduced online, retro tracks, solo VS mode, and solo battle mode, and was overall just packed with content and the most revolutionary for the franchise)
Here’s mine:
1st MK8 (I won’t count Deluxe cause it’s literally the same except with some minor details here and there).
2nd MKDS (this is the first ever Mario Kart game I played. The reason why I am a Mario fan lol).
3rd MK7
4th MKWii
5th MKDD
6th MK64
7th MKSC
8th Super Mario Kart
And I ain’t counting Mario Kart Tour!
