    The service manual states between 5mm - 15mm of play in the chain but quite a few owners have found this to be too tight making the bike snatchy and the chain a little “noisy”! Also the book recommends doing the chain adjustment on the side stand ffs! 🧑🏻‍🔧

      This happen at higher speed? I mean the noise. New MT09 factory was quite tight as well.

    You made it look so easy

    Are both of your adjustment block the exact same? Im really confused because the first notch on my left side is slightly bigger then the right side....

    Fyi the 2021’s are 32mm for the rear axle nut and different torque specs

      You are correct. 2023 SP is 32mm rear nut. 105Nm tightening torque.(Not Ft.Lb)

    hopefully you've gotten better in using the breaker bar, there's a reason why it's hinged so you dont have to keep removing the socket.

    Nice video my 2019 MT-10 has about 2-3" of movement after only 300 miles. Is that normal? Im going to RTFM now.. lol how many 1/2 turns did you go ?

      @iancurtis5397 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No not normal. How are you measuring play on the chain? Take a ruler where the chain meets the rear tire hold the marker on the ruler at center of the chain and move it up keeping the ruler stable and see how high it goes. If it's that much slack bring it to dealer and have them do it. You dont want to avoid warranty by screwing with it. Good luck ride safe!

    Who has a box of unopened goodies?! If that were for my MT all that would be fitted without any hesitation haha. Great bikes

    Manual spec is definitely too tight. My expert mechanic reckons about 1 inch for all bikes (25.4 mm)

      Same adjustment for aan adventure bike with long suspension travel as for a sports bike? I suggest you look for another mechanic.

    DOD you use a 6pt socket or a 12?

    • @mr_neeme
      @mr_neeme 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Should be a 6

  • @My17A

    I think it is still way to loose. If it is the same as an FJ 09 it should be only 5 - 15 mm by the book.

    • @sirrobofbooks7181

      Agreed. But the majority of people are finding that the book measurement is just too tight, especially with weight on the bike, the chain barely moves.

      1"is perfect..Yamaha's book is too toght

      Not trying to be argumentative, but why would the engineers at Yamaha have specs that would make the chain to tight. They're the ones who built the machine and should know how it is suppose to be set up. I've been running my FJ09 with the 5 - 15mm slack on the centerstand for quite some time and there is no wear on the sprockets and everything is fine. The chain has not stretched at all on me since the initial 1000 km adjustment. My chain does seem tight to me also, at the tightest spot, but as I rotate the chain there are a couple of places much looser that I'm sure are close to being out of spec. If I were to loosen the chain at the tightest point which is where it is supposed to be adjusted at, the loose spots would be way to loose. The book says, 5 - 15 mm slack measured at the tightest point. I understand that people may think the chain is to tight but that does not mean it is.

      That's OK, it's OK to have a different opinion. I'm just going off all the combined years of wisdom from all of the owners that have commented on the various forums I frequent. And I agree with them, that with any weight on the bike, it's too tight at factory specs. It's like an own brand oil that 'just meets the specs' vs a good oil like Castrol, don't even get me started on that! ha ha

      The parameters the Yamaha engineers have set for the slack are not opinions.

    I never adjust my chain on a stand

      how do you adjust your chain? I had mine adjusted at a shop two months ago and this morning i noticed my chain looked like a damn necklace hanging off the sprockets. Bike rode normal yesterday but I'm gonna do it myself from now on..

  • @hawkslayers1
